Supertramp's multi-platinum album "Breakfast In America." Was one of the greatest albums ever made. Almost every song on that album became a top 40 hit. In that album alone you have 1. The Logical Song. 2. Goodbye Stranger 3. Bloody Well Right. 4. Take The Long Way Home. 5.Breakfast In America. 6. Give A Little Bit. As you can see that album was off the charts great! You must go down the rabbit hole that is Supertramp. They were one of the greatest groups of the 70's.

The other songs you mentioned were not even on the album! So four singles only.
Supertramp has been a staple for me since 1974. They never get old.

It was the late 70’s, I was 10 years old. I still remember the diner waitress on the album cover of my breakfast in America I had paid for myself washing cars in the neighborhood that summer. Take the long way home was my favorite and I wore the needle of my record player out to it. Amazing how hearing a song can bring you right back nearly 50 years ago. Great reaction.

As an old rocker from the 70's and 80's, I appreciate that you appreciate Supertramp. I love them. Later on to come is another great band similar to them called the Scorpians. If you like Supertramp, you will also like the Scorpians for all the same reasons.

I love Supertramp
The organ that the lead singer is playing is the classic Hammond B-3, a mainstay of rock history. It was used by such bands as Deep Purple and Procul Harum and many others. I used to do sound and bands would sometimes bring them in. It took 6 men to lift it up onto the stage and 4 men to lift the Leslie speaker that goes with it. The Leslie speaker rotates and gives this in phase/out of phase sweeping sound that you will probably come to recognize. One of the most ironic songs featuring the B-3 is "Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Procul Harum. You should react to their version with the Danish National Orchestra and choir. You won't be disappointed.

Supertramp has been on steady rotation round here since I discovered them forty years ago. So that's where you're headin' MDreezy 😀. This is an absolute amazingly talented prog rock band. Check out the album 'Crime of the Century'.

2:32-It's because most of the musicians back then were classically trained..Doors, Yes, Pink Floyd, etc. Because of that, they were able to create something more than just music..it was art.

It's soooo exciting thinking about how classic rock reactors could/might become musicians, producers, promoters etc and bring that golden era into creating whatever rock and roll is to turn into in the future. Especially reactors who grew up on hip hop and have fallen in love with 60s/70s/80's musicianship, poetry and badass instrumentation and production. Those who appreciate RNR's vulnerable/honest emotional power and pure lyrical expression. Who now celebrate unadulterated, natural talent and execution instead of relying on autotune/AI, and overworked post production. Can't wait to see how this generation is going to evolve this amazing genre.

Wow. At times I forget how talented this band was. Maybe what you're noticing is the great the musical arrangement, the way all the instrumental parts flow and complement each other. The vocal arrangements are so good too. :)
Supertramp are class! How about some Thin Lizzy brotha? I suggest 'Suicide' studio version (1975). Lead singer had a father from Guyana and an Irish mother. They are a twin guitar rock band and had hit albums and singles in the 70s and early 80s.

I think you missed the point. Dude, when he says take the long way home, he's not talking about going home. It's like that old joke about the guy who went out to get milk and never came back. He talks about everybody at home treats him like the furniture. He saying that he wants to run away.
It's great that you're so open to new/old? music. I know how easy it is to stay in your own comfort zone. As a fan mainly of guitar music I was a latecomer to Supertramp but better late than never right! My suggestions are 'Rudy' and 'Hide in your shell' for your next ST ractions. Cheers

This was 1979 Live in Paris. Nice analysis! Look for more Supertramp there's a ton of great songs. Check out "Don't Leave Me Now" up on your screen there. It's the last song Roger Hodgson wrote for Supertramp.

I really wish you would do the studio versions first when you're checking out a band's song for the first time to get the Fuller richer sound. Not to mention the original instrumental leads with a clarinet. In the live version they are always changing up the instrumental leads

The main problem with today’s music is…..it has no soul. I mean musicianship has disappeared. Most songs and albums are just backing tracks, or samples of someone else’s music. And the vocal tracks are all electronically controlled and manipulated, so that, the voice you hear on the recording “neve” sounds as good live. Unfortunately, we are living in a fake world, with fake music and fake “artists”. There are notable exceptions….but unfortunately most of today’s music isn’t worth listening to, that’s why so many of us watch and enjoy young people like yourself discovering the music that we grew up with.
