Getting good standing starts is different here in Daytona USA than in the sequel. A bad start results in the wheels spinning for several seconds; a good start brings the car up to speed very quickly and will let you pass opponents before they have even left the starting blocks. I failed fast start here, but the setup is the same every time: hold the brake down, then use the throttle to try and hold the tachometer at the very top of the yellow zone. You will notice when you hold the brake and apply the correct amount of gas before the race starts that the back end of the car will hunker down; if you can start the race with it pushed down like this, you will get the faster good start. Take a look at my expert course video for an example of the good standing start.
The advanced course contains more corners than the beginner course; each corner also has its own unique radius. These different radii mean each corner has its own unique speed and line that the car will snap on to when powersliding. The two hairpins look challenging, but you can clear them quickly with some practice by throwing the car at each one, shifting to second, then back to fourth. After the slight bend out of the tunnel, steer in and quickly shift to a lower gear then back to fourth to clear the right hand corner immediately before the checkpoint. For the massive final corner, try to pick up plenty of speed down the hill, shift to second, then as soon as you reach a speed of 270 km/h, shift up to third to lock in that speed and line. If you want to try and speed up your times, drop your speed faster by shifting to first instead of second, but be ready to skip second and shift back to third quickly. Never let off the gas in corners here! Instead, practice controlling your speed by changing gear alone.

I still think this is the best racing game ever made. So simple and tons of fun playing it.

most of the corners in the Advanced I shift from 2nd then 3rd to 4th. the only time I shift down to 1st, then 3rd and 4th is the corner on the top before you get to the bottom.

Perfect! Finding a rhythm that works repeatably for you is the goal; you can try to shave a tiny bit of time off any corner by shifting to first instead since it drops your speed slightly faster, but consistency and reliability is the most important thing of all to winning these races! Keep it up and good luck out there 👍

Christ Fellowship used to have this game in the old building of the Children's Ministry but, it operates only with the start button and the insert coin message not used

Guessing this was emulated on a pc, we’re you using and Xbox controller or did you have a wheel and pedals set up?

This gameplay was captured on PC using the Nebula Model 2 emulator and input was through a generic xinput gamepad with an analog stick for steering, analog triggers for throttle and brake, and four digital face buttons for selecting the four gears. The steering wheels on the original cabinets were 270 degree wheels (3/4 of a turn from lock to lock) which allowed for a simple mechanical design to make them extremely durable but still gave them a generous range of motion; while it may take some getting used to to play precisely on a tiny analog control stick, most inexpensive PC racing wheels will also be 270 degree wheels and work even better as arcade-accurate substitutes! Fancier 360 degree or multi-turn wheels might be challenging to play on due to how fast steering angles must change to navigate the corners and manage powerslides...

Wrong gear shifts. Only the downhill hairpin is 4-1-4, the rest are all 4-2-4 and at much higher speeds.

@@charliewade3268 show us you getting that time.
      4-2-4-3-4 makes no real difference.
