I‘m a native Californian, but have been living in Austria for over 40 years. My concentrated art journey began in 2017 with Zentangle. The following year I decided to explore watercolor, with my main emphasis on botanical watercolor. After extensive exploration I was introduced to the world of intuitive painting, first with watercolor and then finally with acrylics, which I‘ve grown to love. My main focus right now is collage and mixed media. I LOVE mark making, gel printing, and simply playing around with paper and paint much like you do here. Thus I‘m really happy to have found your channel and love watching you work your magic!
Hi from Scotland, just started using gel plate and making collages, after school I had 50 years with no artwork in my life at all, but restarted when Covid came along. Usually I had been doing very detailed pet portraits etc, in pencil, oil, acrylic. But am enjoying the freedom of gel plates and collage.
I think a lot of people reconnected with their creativity during that time - what an exciting addition the gel printing must be to your practice! Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 😀
Hi from Arizona. Ive been experimenting with paint and paper lately too. I was kinda surprised that this is a brand new art channel as you seem to be quite accomplished and have so many good ideas. Mark making is fascinating and makes great backgrounds. Im newly subscribed and looking forward to seeing more posts. ❤😊
You are a wonderful discovery! I have been a collector of art suppliers, a person who longs to make art but has never jumped into the actual making. Thinking I’m not artistic but I love color, texture and amassing a roomful of beautiful supplies with the wish of using them to create the visions in my head. I’ve organized and arranged my dreamshop, with your inspiring videos I believe I can stop wishing and start doing! 🥰 So appreciate your efforts in producing these videos.
Painting paper is real fun and surely a part of my creative life. I had to smirk when your video came to the point of book painting. I do that, too. But I am more into using old children books. You know these ones the kids scribbled in and with worn out pages. It's like having just another sketch book but already with interesting background.
Hi from Pat in Australia. I enjoy watching the freedom you have with adding paint to paper. I still struggle with finding the freedom of expression within me- I'm a bit of a neat freak and like things orderly, but I'm getting there. I purchased a gel plate, and have had some fun with that. Thanks for your videos. Xx
Hi Pat - thank you for being here. Yes, the freedom can be a messy business, and it's clear that that's where I lean. However, I envy the artists I see who do manage to be neat in their creative expression - like people who do zentangle. That's the wonderful thing about creating - there is room for all of us 🥰
Greetings from Austin, TX! I just discovered your channel and love it! I really love your use of bright colors. I wanted to eat up the papers you made in this video. They're so yummy! Yes, please make more (especially happy colors), and I'd love to see the collages you make from your papers. Thanks so much for sharing!
Stacey, that's hilarious - sometimes I could just eat them up too 😂😂😂. If you like the happy color papers, join me this Sunday for a LIVE Q&A - bright colors are coming 🥰 ua-cam.com/video/C15H57Jm9nw/v-deo.html
This is fantastic for your first video :) What a great start- and wonderful to watch your channel and your skills grow. Congrats on your one year anniversary- thank you for all of the information and inspiration!
Thank you very much, Donna! When I made that video I truly had no idea what I was doing - it took me over a week to edit the video. But like anything else, the more you do it the faster/easier it gets. Now it only takes me half a week to edit 😂✍️I'm so glad you're here and have been part of this journey.🥰
Hi from Pennsylvania, congratulations on your new channel. I listening and watching you is extremely relaxing and helpful. I love painting painting papers also, but rarely do, due to limited storage space since I can never figure out how to use them. I would love to see how you use these papers. Love the idea of using used books for art journals. I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
Thank you for your kind words - they really mean a lot to me. Limited space can be tough when painting papers (especially when trying to dry papers, right?!) I will do an upcoming video on what to do with all the papers because it is an important question. 😀
Hello 👋 greetings from Ireland's Sunny Dublin 🌞 it is a beautiful Tuesday morning 8th August. I am a textile/mixed media intuitive artist 🎨 and I love experimenting with different textures/mediums/techniques. I am in recovery from a two year long creative block and so happy to be in this space now 😊🎨 I am a new subscriber to your channel Jackie and loving every minute of it so far 👍
Sandra, painting paper helped me come out of a 10 year creative block. It was exactly what I needed - low stakes/no pressure creativity to help rebuild my confidence (and skills) in the studio. I'm so happy you're here! 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio exactly! There is so much pressure (in fact too much pressure!) for artists to produce perfect works of art 🎨! It is impossible to be perfect all of the time which results in some of us doubting our abilities...mind you I have never created art for others only for myself so I created my own freedom in a sense. For therapeutic purposes mostly. Doodling saved me in the pandemic.
This was a great video. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of them. I enjoy drawing, making hand carved stamps, and stencils, painting and using them all together to make collages. I live in Wales.
Tracy thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment.I am fascinated by stamp carving, but haven't yet tried it. I'm putting it on my list now 😀
Hi from Belgium! Very interested in seeing more of this. I’m doing a bit of everything (card making, mixed media, coloring, painting, gelli, … ) , but not enough to be honest. I keep sticking to UA-cam to look at videos hahahah
Hi from the North of England. I've just started playing with mixed media, acrylic paint, gelli plate printing. I started out with junk journals some 5 years ago after a traumatic event in my life. Now, I'm steering towards art journals. Loving the process. Your mark making and painted pages are gorgeous, and you've given me some ideas. I'd like to see where these papers end up!
Hello from BC, Canada. I’ve been playing with mixed media and I love the creativity that comes out of me 😊 I like that there is no right or wrong way of creating. Thank you for sharing your ideas 💕
Hi Mystery - I'm so happy you're here! I created a playlist of videos I've done where I use the papers I paint. Here's a link to it: ua-cam.com/play/PLgIXaAju7by0O_BipbCb-HO1rWrGQjWbs.html
So glad to have found you on UA-cam! I'm enjoying your beautiful videos. I love painting papers as well and do a lot in my handmade art journals. I'd love to see you work in your tiny art journal!!
Hi, I am Britta from Bavaria/Germany. I am a passionate Junk Journaler (since july 2022) and love to colour my own papers in many different ways to use them for collages in my books. The books have different formats from tiny minis to large flapbooks. I started to use gel prints but am not yet satisfied with the results. So, if you could show some opportunities on that subject in your charming and entertaining way, it would make me really happy (such as using noodles in your other video, for example 😃. Lots of love, Britta
Hi Britta - thank you for watching! Junk journaling looks like so much fun, and yet I haven't tried it yet. Be on the lookout for a couple of gel printing videos coming up soon 🥰
@@PaintedPaperStudio Hi Jackie, I am so very much looking forward - and yippie: Today was my first mark making day. I got so many wonderful patterns (your video at my side). Tomorrow I´ll continue. It is so much fun! ✌🥰
Robin, this is such a great question and I have never really thought about it. I would say, yes, there's a difference because I am very intentional when I choose one over the other. I may talk about this in this week's video. 🥰
Thank you Airam! Mostly I create collage (sometimes with weaving), but I love the idea of using them in paper mâché 💜 Creating bowls or other vessels is a very creative idea - have you done that?
@@PaintedPaperStudio not yet but there are only so many weaving projects you can do so I'm thinking about bowls made out of paper or some type of necklace....IDK. Maybe even quilling. Beautiful work you do. I find it so relaxing and my job is high stress.

Hi Jackie. My brayer seems to give off a line or several lines when making the original or ghost print. I assume it is the brand of brayer (inexpensive one). Can you recommend a brayer or perhaps tell me why this occurs? I was disappointed to say the least. Thx in advance for your guidance
Hi Trini! Great question, and that's frustrating for sure. I primarily use the soft rubber brayers from Speedball, and I very rarely have the "line" issue. However (before you give up on your current brayer), have you tried adjusting the amount of pressure you're using - that can make a big difference. I've also heard of people using sandpaper on the edges of the brayer to "soften" the lines. I haven't had the courage to try it though 😂. There is a link to the exact brayer I use in the description.
@@PaintedPaperStudio I tried adjusting the pressure I use but still… I’ve just ordered a Speedball so I’ll let you know. I could try the sandpaper on the ones I have but a tad leery. Thx for ur advise!
