So true. I’m always amazed when I talk to young riders and find out all the stress they worry about. It’s the number one reason I’m not a fan of watt training. The numbers drive people crazy. Are we trying to have fun? Or torture ourselves? Hell, cycling is hard enough as it is.
Fun fact: 14 years ago, I lived on that street and biked up and down it daily. One day biking northbound down De Haro, I was hit by a pickup truck around 20th and woke up 6 hours later to my 4th MRI of the night at SF General. Came out of that with 26 staples up the back of my head and several years of some wild-ass vertigo.
@@tjones2112 I agree only because logistically travel wise it would be a pain. But to see Jeff up and down the U.K. over the month of October at various climbs until the final would be great.
Awesome content as always Jeff. FWIW, anyone that thinks this is a “climbers” race is wrong. It’s a sprinters race. My racing background is primarily from crit racing here in Northern California just like Jeff. Although instead of perennial podiums like Jeff, I’m scraping for top 10 in the same P/1/2 field sprint. -your Bay Climb winner/fellow critboy
having seen some of the hill climb comps here in britain, they tend to be longer than this, definitely seems like being a good sprinter helps out potentially more
Put some flat bars on if you do it again. A lot more leverage on offer so that you can get some real watts per kg out of those legs :) Great effort on your 3rd placing.
@@biedawo He wouldn't have had to come back from a mile back if he had a better clip-in, did he? He probably could've won if the winner wasn't leading by that much from the start.
Oh By the Way prior to the first aluminum frame racing bikes in the 1980's and 1990's, on big Mountian stages of the bigger tours some riders took a fixed steel frame track bike from the company they rode for, as light as the frames were made at the time, then added the components needed like hand breaks, changing to a front road hub with all the other parts for the pedals, and all the other stuff to comply with the rules then set up with the single set of gears best suited for climbing gear ratio for the rider to be as light as possible with the lightest frame as possible for racing.
@@LouieMcFly23 true. And I doubt the minimal weight savings would make much difference in a short race such as these. You’re talking about ounces here. Hell, I can poop that weight savings out before a race.
Stick with the road bike, better centered position over CG. Work on that clip in, maybe some speedplay pedals or have someone hold you up. Add some faux brake hoods.
1st place needs to practice the champagne spray. 6 half twists, shake the shit out of the bottle, flick the cork and cover the opening with your thumb.

"Pinkshirt" overtakes 4 people in about 15 seconds, impressive.
We should all take a moment to appreciate the transition at 0:20

Insane 🔥
To the guy that tried to block you twice! What a Wanker!!!!!
I think Jeff had him covered though. He was ready to stick them elbows out. As an experienced track ride I would ridden right through him!
especially since he wasnt even guarding the top spot, but 2nd place...

That's awful dude sorry to hear about that and I hope all is well now. Pick up trucks and big SUV's in cities are a menace.
@@Hughmanbeing Thanks! Yeah, everything's fine now. Moved to Chicago since then and sadly I've got no hills to climb now :(

That 75 second power is my 10 second sprint power… nuts
You need to get over to the UK national hill climb champs 😁

Short and sweet, gotta love it. A masterclass in editing.

The clip-in is everything on a short course fixie race.
You'd think so. The guy who took #2 certainly didn't lead from the start.

Extremely aggressive defence being played right there
Exactly what I was thinking. And for what? That kid got smoked anyways
I don't think your ability to ride in a straight line is very good when your seeing stars
