This is MY JAM! I’m a Southern Girl from Oklahoma living in Western New York. They were my first concert, Norman, OK, I was 11. Thanks to my step-dad, Byron Mills, Osage NATION, May He Rest In Peace.
o?o My friends and I saw them for free at the University of California in Irvine right before the Live at Budakon album was released. Man that seems like a life time ago.
Like the best live recordings, this performance rocks a great song way more than the studio version. Really don't understand why this wasn't on the original Budokan album, or Downed, but so glad we can enjoy it all now.
there are some bands that are better live, and some bands that are better on the recording. You always know the ones that are better live have got way more talent bc it's easy to fuck up a live show,
Fantastic rendition of a great song. If only CT had known what this gig was going to do to them! Great to see them so young and fresh faced! Mr Zander is exceptionally easy on the eye! Gorgeous man.
They were definitely hard rock but also very accessible and entertaining. That must be why the Japanese loved them. Robin also seems very modest for a front man.
Watch this back on playback speed 0.25 if you... like me...need to perv on Tom Petersson in slow motion while he sings “ oooh baby needs some brand new shoes “ you’re welcome !
People love to call bands "criminally underrated" for some reason but I would say that a band with a cult following, sold 20 plus million albums is in the RnR Hall of Fame and still tours is a far cry from being underrated lol
That was (and still is) the great thing about the band - every one of the four brought something big to the table. Bun E kept them right on beat and got a lot of pretty cool fills out of a regular trap set; Robin had an an amazing voice that could be sweet and light or dark and edgy, and he was no slouch on rhythm guitar; Tom locked in with Bun E on his bass, did awesome backup vocals and even sang lead on a few great tunes; and Rick - well, he wrote all of their big hits and pretty much defined the quirky image that made Cheap Trick so interesting and different.
Weird band.....visually awesome and weird.....melody and dynamics is pretty crazy.......I've read this is one of the greatest LIVE moments in rock history....they're like a cover band that made good, just weird..............the lead vocalist / bass player combo is very sexy (no homo)........Axl / Duff level........can we just appreciate the simplistic power chords at 0:15 to 0:19.........I could see myself at one of their concerts going off..............too bad I'm 5 decades too late...................UA-cam for the win
Dig out some Yardbirds or Led Zeppelin covers of another great old song called Train Kept A Rollin' and you might hear a bit more of those "simplistic power chords" you mentioned.
And why's that? Have you seen them live? He does some pretty cool chordal stuff on it, sometimes using it as a rhythm guitar with a broad spectrum that anchors and expands the sound of the band.
@@hroestergaardsaigon thank god that was sarcasm. I was dreading having to tell ya Heaven Tonight is the first ever album recorded with a 12 stringer 😂
The most criminally underrated live act ever.
biggest live album of the 70s is under rated?
The best alive album of the 70s sure 👍🇮🇹
@@daninusa5297 Generally speaking yes Cheap Trick are underrated. They never got the accolades they deserved.

@NoName-qv8ko So true. Going to see them in November this year. They're touring with Journey. Can't wait.
Bun's drumming makes this song great. Saw them multiple times in 1977 and afterwards. They never disappoint. Daxx is fine but I miss Bun E.
We used to do this tune back in the day. Our drummer hated it because the only drum fills were at the end of the song.

Hi there, Good day to you and it's nice seeing you here.
This version of Southern Girls just rocks me to my core...👍
Same❤
This was recorded in Japan in early 1978.
The US still hadn't heard about these guys.
That would all change after this concert was released...
o?o My friends and I saw them for free at the University of California in Irvine right before the Live at Budakon album was released. Man that seems like a life time ago.
Robin is an underrated front man.
Criminally underrated.. The best there ever was..

At Budokan was meant for Japan only. They only added I Want You ... to the set because it was so popular there.
Absolute classic this and Surrender have not aged
Just a simple thank you to an amazing band that I've enjoyed for most of my life. Great tunes, great times, great memories.
Classic, what else can you say. Saw them in 79, they opened for KISS.
Got my KISS records out...Surrender. That's gratitude.
No guitar solo, and still one of the best rock tunes from the Tricksters.
Fantastic rendition of a great song. If only CT had known what this gig was going to do to them! Great to see them so young and fresh faced! Mr Zander is exceptionally easy on the eye! Gorgeous man.
All 4 of 'em ooze charisma, in their own ways.
This is.....brilliant!!
one of the greatest pure rock and roll songs of all time. hands down!
One of my favorite songs and the live version is 100% even better . I wake up to this version pretty much every day .
Great stompin' chorus my favorite...Southern Girls. Surrender got me in back in the day. 40 years later still going.
The soundtrack of my youth
Rick Nelson was an under-rated guitar player.. He had tremendous skill.....
one of the greatest power pop songs of all time. cheap trick was so good live. it was like a big party
I was an ignorant wide eyed fan, had NOo idea there was an another album within an album...wow 😃
Wow, discovering all their awesome songs, especially the legendary Budokan! Tom is really enjoying himself.
🤘🤘🌹🎸
Live in Budokan very good.LP.....its a legend. Thanks Cheap trick
was that a little "train kept a rolling" there in the beginning?
Yes!
With a heave and a ho, but I just couldn't tell her so!!

Can’t believe I forgot about this gem!

Love this song!
First time I ever saw Cheap Trick was when they opened for KISS on the Love Gun/Alive II taping at the Forum in LA in 77, they were amazing
Damn that’s good
Wow what A Sound. Perfect sustain
Thanks for the share.....love it !!!
People love to call bands "criminally underrated" for some reason but I would say that a band with a cult following, sold 20 plus million albums is in the RnR Hall of Fame and still tours is a far cry from being underrated lol
But they should have a career that of Aerosmith and Journey, because they have the best catalog of music then most of their peers
Bud e Carlos makes the band, Farmington nm much respect with the beat n cigarette very memorable 👌 much respect

Ooh the savagely handsome TomPetersson
I gotta say I love the comments from the women!
as a bi guy myself I gotta say it was Tom that helped confirm that... he still looks shockingly good for his age
You already know those Western girls tho!!
🤘🤘🌹🎸
Good song 2024❤.......Baby needs some brand new shoes
Rick Nielsen is quite a character. :D
See the cover of their album “In Color”. The bands character is well depicted.
My Teens have seen this live twice.
🤘🤘🌹🎸
Whoever dislikes this video has no brain at all.
I have no brains or hearr BUT I
L💖VE Cheap Trick
I mean look how absolutely sincere and happy these guys are ... they love their job... haters are miserable fucking people...
must be northern girls
The biggest difference between Northern girls and Southern girls is that Northern say, "you can," and Southern girls say, "y'all can."
もうすぐ会える♥♥♥♥

Best American Hard Rock Band Van Halen world's best rock and roll band Cheap Trick
I can live with that... I'd even agree so long as it's DLR era Van Halen
HAPPY NATIONAL FRESH SPINACH DAY!

just a snippet of Train Kept A Rollin' at `14 seconds in
I caught that. Like two bars.
Great fucking song ✌

get out of here lazy guys
Tom Petersson with twelve-string bass guitar. How revolting...
