@@tanker2010 TRUE!! and he writes classic song-book songs that could be used by any band of any genre. The descending line-cliché employed in the verses is such a standard device, it's a dead give away that he is very familiar with the tricks of the trade. You don't find that in Sabbath tunes that marry the melody to the guitar riff. Then there's the good old whole-tone-up modulation to takes us back into the chorus after the mid-eight breakdown. Just like he did in 'I surrender' and 'God Gave Rock and Roll to You' I mean, this is a guy who knows the formula and he's sticking to it,

This brought a tear to my eye... It had been ages since I heard this song. Thank you, Rainbow 💙💜
we had the world's BEST music in the 70s and 80s 😎 glad I was alive to hear it 😎
Throw in the late 60's and i'm with ya brother.
FUCKIN A...BRA
MTV ruined it for all of us. Image over talent.
Can't disagree with a single word......magic days....magic music.....
Me too !!
I re-watch this, and I remember Cozy Powell.
R.I.P., my angel.
Played with Plant
Thank you Guardians for reminding me of this long forgotten favorite of mine!! ❤❤❤😊
Just amazing. I wish the music of today was even a fraction as good as this!
Exactly! Love the instrumentals at 3:00 too!
Todays "so called music"" is utter garbage.
This was my favorite song when i was a kid, which is obvious from it`s overwhelming AWESOMENESS!!!
HeavilyArmedGoy I remember when we all use to go the shop on a Friday night about 20 of us go the park share a bottle of old English cider (the glass bottle the one were yer returned it n got 10p bak) share the bottle between about 20 of us lol n blast this song on repeat on my ghetto blaster lol EE the good old days innocent fun no one ever cum to any harm n us listening to fantastic rock music the music era was amazing n to think of wat kids listen to now a days lol the good old metal was fantastic
HeavilyArmedGoy still fresh...bands like The Darkness have this sound today...but nothing come close to that 70s vibe.
@@janeclarke7929 Absolutely. Though Merrydown cider got you there quicker . . 8.2 vol, almost as strong as the crack cocaine of beer, Special Brew.
This is one of my favorite Rainbow songs. One reason I like Rainbow so much is because a guy who looks like an Italian who moved to Hawaii to be an undercover cop, is in the same band that Ronnie James Dio was in. I love both Dio and Graham Bonnet.
Dylan Mergner that is the best description of Graham Bonnet I have ever read!!
Jajaja
Hawaii five o dio..starting Graham bonnett
How can you not love this group?
A simple riff, with an amazing vocal, it don't need to be over though, great track
This is better than any music today!
LATE 70s baby thats why
Better than Taylor Swift?
@@JohnMoog-ug6bk No doubt
Absolutely!😮@@JohnMoog-ug6bk
F'n right...🎸
I've heard this when I was 3. Listened to the radio the other day when this was played. Tears came to my eyes as some great childhood memories came up. Awesome music.
Graham Bonnet is an incredible singe, IMO the greatest rock singer the UK has ever produced, no argument on that ever.
Rainbow was one of the most underrated legendary band ever.
One of my all time favorites... Cranked this when I was a young man.....
Forever searching for new musicians and band that can create something like this. Just a bad ass song. Graham's voice is amazing.
Graham Bonnet is an incredible singer!!! His vocals made this song!
Plus a double Blackmore solo - heavenly mix
What happened to Graham??
@@ทัศนียาสีกาศรี Tours to this very day with his own band and Alcatrazz. Didn't drop off the face of the Earth, but was never as big as he was with Rainbow.
but vocalist Joe Turner will be better
Hard to believe he's almost 75!
If Graham Bonnet was in Rainbow, he could have revolutionized rock!
Graham Bonnet is a real rocker!
but he was in the band obviously.
One of the most exciting, powerful songs in the history of rock
The man said at the age of 82 better listen to him he's listening to unbelievable music . Listen to the wise. Thanks Rosario
When I got out of jail, I walked into my house for the first time in 65 days, turned on the radio, and you guessed it, this song came on almost immediately! It was like my house was welcoming me back home! OMGosh!!!
Great bandz@@
I understand completely I pulled 4 years and when I got home it was Ozzy Osbourne And then Dio the last in line one of my favorites know exactly how you feel
Oh and by the way good luck to you in all your future endeavors
Always enjoyed playing the bassline to this tune, it just never seems to get old, its not complicated, its just a fun tune when your with some quality musicians that can jam!!!!
I'm a Bass player. The bass line is too simple and boring for me so I have to jazz it up and add melodic syncopated lines. The song has a lot of space and makes adding more complex lines easy to do without screwing the song up.
This is not brightest moment of my beloved Rainbow, but yet I still love that song. Especially if Roger is on bass. Long Live Rock 'n' Roll!
I can't stop listening to this.... God bless Ritchie Blackmore and Graham Bonnet
After all these years this is still a great song. Great to see Cozy Powell again R.I.P.
The pop on that outro guitar solo is OUTSTANDING!!!
Saw Def Lepard open for Richie's Blackmore's Rainbow in 79 at the Santa Monica Arena with my cousin Paul where this video Kicked Our Asses! I went into the United States Marine Corps right after this gig and was glad I got to see Richie play before I went in!
I love the fact that they wrote a fairly simple song... with a killer melody.
They didn't write it, Russ Ballard did.
Just like he did in 'I surrender' and 'God Gave Rock and Roll to You'
I mean, this is a guy who knows the formula and he's sticking to it,
I was living in Dublin, 19 years old, when this was released. That guitar riff was/still is epic.
I’ve always loved this song, dance like a loon, know it word for word blah blah... I’m in my mid 30s, my Dad is nearly 67 - and randomly revealed the other day how he always played this song on repeat - when I was little - because he loves it so damn much!
That’s musical genetics, babes!
Dio , Bonnett and Turner great vocalist for Rainbow loved them all
one of the best songs ever!!! oldschool music was so freaking different, LOVE it!!
🌈 Rainbow was the first live concert I ever attended at around '78. I wasn't sure what to make of them and when the guys around me would all really get into it at certain moments, I couldn't figure out why. I wasn't sure what I thought about them at the time but I do love this song, and as I got older I appreciated some of their earlier tunes too. Overall, it was a cool time and I was glad I went to see them. I really liked my first taste of whiskey that night too. lol - I was about 14 or 15.
I had the Live album with that big Rainbow on stage 😁👍 What great days those were.
Wow! Just checked out the list of songs which Russ Ballard wrote. Amazing! This is melodic rock music at it's absolute best. That key change mid-song is sublime.
HOLD YOUR HEAD UP
God gave rock and roll to you
For me, the best Rainbow vocalist. Saw them early days at the Apollo in Manchester and Graham Bonnet was a perfect fit. Went to Manchester from Wakefield in my two tone blue Ford Capri. Parked in the school carpark opposite. Happy days.
Awesome song! Blackmore's fingers seem to just float across the strings so effortlessly,
Honestly, the whole band was like an All-Stars Band - Don Airey, Roger Glover, Cozy Powell, Ritchie Blackmore and of course the allmighty Graham Bonnet. There was not a single musician who would not be a master of his craft.
Once In A Lifetime My Friend Pure Magic
Also Dio at some point
I saw that lineup when they opened for Blue Oyster Cult at the Richfield Coliseum (outside of Cleveland ) in 1979. They we're truly a great band!
And Richie fired each of them, like so many others he fired. Nobody lasted more than 5 years.
Blackmore and Glover...a true Deep Durple spin-off.
Brilliant band brilliant song brilliant vocals and lead guitaring GREAT BAND RAINBOW.
Thank you @Marvelstudios for reviving this song to the young generation. It's a gem...
You're right they have NO IDEA what they're missing.
Thank you James Gunn
They had no choice, today's music is garbage. If they wanted anything good you have to go to the source. 60's 70's 80's.
This version or the original?
Being young and listening to this classic....life was splendid then...so was the music.
Takes me back to '79 The year I moved to London from Coventry.
The good old days :) :)
When music was written and performed with excellence, still play this very loud as its the only way to listen to it... The Vienna woods are alive with the sound of Rainbow
I remember hearing this guitar intro for the first time as a young teenager at a party and being blown away. I cranked it up to 11 and made them play it again. In those days it was vinyl. Now at the age of 60 I still get the chills when I play it. Graham Bonnett is astounding.
OMG! Always loved singing along to this brilliant rock classic!💜❤️
39 years and still love rainbow. Thankfully they haven't been worn out on classic rock radio
I heard this song on the radio all the time as a kid growing up! I had no idea that Richie Blackmore was the lead guitar here! guess when he left Deep Purple this is what he was doing. I started listening to this stuff at age 12(and that was 1982-83) played at our skating rink. I haven't stopped rock'n since!
Me and my best mate saw Graham Bonnet twice a few years back. As huge Rainbow fans, he was AWESOME! Long live rock n roll! \m/
