- Crowded House doing Distant Sun live on The Tonight Show.
In 1995 or so, I traded a Daniel Ash solo CD, 5 blank VCR tapes, and postage for 10 hours of Crowded House video. I couldn't tell you the name of the person who did it, but it was quite a score for me.
Some of it is pretty common, some of it obscure. I'm posting all the non-commercially available stuff. It is quite a project but another CH fan did me a favor 14 years ago and it is my turn to repay the favor. Watch all the videos and if you are a fan enjoy! PLEASE COMMENT, RATE, and SUBSCRIBE. I'd love to hear from you and I have dozens of more clips on the way!
Songwriting, musicianship, vocals, harmonies. They have it all.
Damn straight...probably their best song. Big influence on me. Bloody luv em.
One of my top 5 bands ... that kind of emotion doesnt come from mass produced wanting the chart title shit we have now ....
great Aussie band lol love our Kiwi brothers
best aussie band ever
Dammed! Sure we still do !
I love how Jay Leno introduced the band entirely from his nose.
Actually Neil is a Kiwi, and after Split Enz the new group were from Aussie
The band was formed in Melbourne so its an Aussie band ;)
Paul Hester.. what a loss.
RIP Paul Hester - Drummer
Amazing group. Neil Finn doesn't get the recognition he deserves as one of the great songwriters and performers of his era. I don't say that lightly. I've attended many of their concerts. Crowded House fans always know Finn's beautiful song lyrics and sing even when Neil stops. Such a rare talent, he is.
Ron K I
Paul macartney said he was the best songwriter in the world, I'd say that's recognition.
Rarely a truer word spoken.
Ab so bloody lutely
Amen brother. Neil truly has a gift for songwriting.
Neil's vocals here are just breathtaking.
Neil Finn's voice, the wonderful 12 string.... This is so awesome....
🍀💪🤓ohhhh yes. I saw him in Mainz/Germany 30 years ago.........
Love Paul Hester's vocals on this, and of course his drumming.
Amazing voice. Full of pure emotion and a beautiful, natural rasp
We miss Paul Hester.
It's Neil Finn on vocals.
Love Paul Hester's vocals on this, and of course his drumming.
Yep. RIP Paul Hester
@@chuckfriebe843 oh no I had no idea he had passed away
@@jackkallemdjian3945 He, unfortunately, took his own life.
@@chuckfriebe843 I had no idea poor man,
@@jackkallemdjian3945 Yes. He was a musical genius and just a generally funny man. Who knew? Sometimes those that are gifted in that way are like that. They can be ticking timebombs because they see the world and themselves, very differently. Very sad.
Absolutely the best live version of this I have seen. Terrific.
just found it now! epic
At least he didn’t mix up the verses. If. U haven seen, watch Joan Rivers a few years earlier than this. Too dang cute!
Just found this recently. Maybe the best live song ever.
Perfect..just a perfect performance. You can see it gradually dawning on Neil that they are delivering perfection by the time he reaches the end of "...but I offer love." and you can see him revelling in the moment. I love the power of melody and musicianship.
Probably the best TV performance I've seen for Crowded House. Neil and Hester vocals are spot on. Mark Hart adds a completeness. Lots of energy. Distant Sun is one of the best songs on their best album. Should have been a massive hit in the US. It's their last song to chart in the US.
Neil Finn doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for his singing voice. He's sensational.
This song = Perfection.
Neil's vocals here are just breathtaking.
And even now at 64 his vocals are still fantastic, I just saw them in concert and his voice is very impressive
Trop de chance d'aller le voir en concert. J'aimerai tellement y aller.
@@wennit Oui, ils se produisent vraiment bien en direct ! Peut-être que tu pourras y aller à un moment donné.
I think this is the best live version of the song!
Caroline Lee they’re all in fine form. Neils vocal, Marks guitar, Nicks backgrounders vocals - Paul’s drums - they nailed it
I think it may be the best live version of any song I've ever heard.
MrHooskerdu1 maybe the best live song ever.So Good
There’s no one to blame!
No doubt!!
Fantastic mix too, especially for live TV.
Great song by a band that I believe to be one of the best from that era. Loved hearing the two part harmony with Paul Hester on the chorus and bridge ; he is missed.
Out of their Native Australia...The singer is from New Zealand.
THE WHOLE BAND ARE kIWI'S
No dude drummer and bass player are aussies
+Nick Masterson Shhh
They were based in Melbourne for most of their first incarnation, that's where they all lived, so they considered themselves an Australian band. And yes, 2 of the 4 of them were Australian.
dude. Neil Finn himself referred to them as a "Melbourne band" at that time. Because they all lived there and operated out of that city.
How on earth can anyone dislike Distant Sun?
Nobody dislikes it
It might be 1993 but honestly this music sounds timeless then and now, how many bands have managed that?
Shouldn't all bands be able to perform this well?
Amazing voice. Full of pure emotion and a beautiful, natural rasp
As a fellow Kiwi now living in USA I have seen the boys live many times. I think this was one of the best performances of their career. They worked their asses off and I am so proud to be both a kiwi and an Australian (yes I lived their for many years to). Well done Crowded House and thank you for all the years of great GREAT music. I am keeping you guys alive by blasting your songs around America
Mark Brady I think I have to agree I've seen many other performances but this is the best. The vocals and harmonies are bang on and they are playing with a lot of emotion
Spring 94, happened to be sitting in front of the tv and they came on ( As it was then...)This version kicks ass. Then saw them in Boston a week later. Could never ever understand why this band was not huge in the States. In music circles they were revered by all from Eddie Vedder, Elvis Costello, and Dave Musatine ....
@@TheReubenKincaid I know Don't Dream It's Over and a couple of other hits made it fairly big over here in the USA but these boys have had a dynamite career. Before forming Crowded House Neil and his Brother Tim were in a band called Split Enz (New Zealand) and they were huge. Tim split off after 10 years of smash hits and formed his own band and they are still going. Love those boys!
Mark Brady Loved The Enz. I Got You was my intro in 1980. Then MTV in the early days played them. Then they vanished. I remember in early 87 reading a blurb in Rolling Stone about CH . The borrowed a mic tape from a bud that had DDIO then I was a fan ever since
You are the first to ever claim to be both a kiwi and from Oz. They are both distinct and separate countries and the kiwis I know, having lived there for 3 years would never claim to be from Oz. It’s a insult .
RIP Paul Hester - Drummer
If Coldplay et al had half the talent of this band- then they could truly lay claim to being the best band in the world.
His voice is soaring in this..
Magnificent!!! Great version
This song just makes me cry..I have no idea why.....
It's my favorite love song, truly. 'I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love.' Gorgeous, gorgeous, words.
We miss Paul Hester.
Paul Hester.. what a loss.
Stunning... without a doubt the best band since the Beatles
2022 this track still has traction!
Was this the best line-up? Great rendition of a timeless classic.
Defo their best line up. Paul Hester nailing the drums and harmonies here and Mark Hart bossing the electric guitar with his solo. I doubt Neil Finn would’ve broke up the band if Hester hadn’t succumbed to ill health. You can hear what he brought to the band on this. Shame they’ve reformed without Mark Hart, he’s been hard done by imo
No, because Mark Hart didn't have the right sense of humour and the interplay between the core 3 was compromised. I saw CH 3 or 4 times between 1991 & 1993 and basically each time they were a little less special, Hester got progressively more introverted & less playful and it really was a case of "As goes Paul, so goes the gig" - he may have driven Finn mad at times, but he was the heart and soul of the band live.
The vocals in this performance are superb. The backing harmonics by Mark and Nick... Haunting. Even better, is how Neil and Paul's voices complement each other perfectly.
This is real music.
And another thing, it is remarkable how melodic and tight this performance is. God I wish artists like this would take over the scene again and take it away from the lame shit shoved at us today.
What an amazing song and live performance
Rest In Peace Paul Hester.
So good! Neil Finn is without doubt one of our greatest song writters. Such a amazing band and so sad about Paul RIP m8
Distant Sun
Crowded House
Tell me all the things you would change
I don't pretend to know what you want
When you come around and spin my top
Time and again, time and again
No fire where I lit my spark
I am not afraid of the dark
Where your words devour my heart
And put me to shame, put me to shame
When your seven worlds collide
Whenever I'm by your side
Dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
Still so young to travel so far
Old enough to know who you are
Wise enough to carry the scars
Without any blame, there's no one to blame
It's easy to forget what you learned
Waiting for the thrill to return
Feeling your desire burn
And drawn to the flame
When your seven worlds collide
Whenever I'm by your side
Dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
Dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone
And I'm lying on the table
Washed out in a flood
Like a Christian feeling vengeance from above
I don't pretend to know what you want
But I offer love
Seven worlds will collide
Whenever I'm by your side
Dust from a distant sun
Will shower over everyone

Thanks for the lyrics. Just soooooo amazing.Wherever happened to the Inspiration and Love. I am stating to think that we are together alone.

Mark looks like a cross between Johnny Depp and Kyle MacLachlan
Does anybody remember hearing a song on the radio for the first time, loving it, and then realizing half way through it was the new song from your favorite band? That was this song for me.
Mike Deveau yep, and now, twenty four years later, my group is performing it, and somehow I'm singing it.!?! I've loved this song since the first listen!
That's pretty cool. Do you have a vid? I see you're in Ottawa, I'm there sometimes. Play any shows?
We're pretty small-time and keep our chops up by playing senior's homes but we hope to do a full all-ages show or two this summer. Played Canada Day last year just outside of town and it was a blast!
@@mikedeveau7075😊
High mark for this band. They were very very good. Unpretentious great song writers & players.
I'm subscribed to every source for Crowded House songs. Can't get enough.
The song that got me through 200+ days of lockdown 2020 - 21. Each year that passes it means more.
I saw them in concert years ago. Every song was perfection. I think Together Alone has to be one of the best albums ever recorded.
This is live. Superb.
Damn this line up was good. This was when they were at there best - still chasing it and hungry but mature enough to have defined their own thing and not following what everybody else was doing.
Damm straight, the boys had the goods alright ✌️✌️✌️🇳🇿✌️✌️✌️
Paul Hester is gone now, and i think it's right to say he was an amazing vocalist as well as Drum player.
Crowded House themselves will tell you they are an Australian band. Formed in Melbourne. I've heard them say it from the stage at many shows. Especially when they are back playing in their "hometown"!
Yes we know the new zealanders always have a chip on their shoulders about it
Saw them last night in London; opened with this! Glorious evening - go see them if you can nab a ticket.
We Still mourn Paul Hester's Death. Such a great Soul, Awesome drummer, gentle soul. Depression is a killer, even if takes over you, Don't deprive us of your beauty by taking your own life. Paul will live forever as long as we speak of him. So let's continue the conversation for all who have travelled this dark road and obliterate it's toll.
Finest band and greatest performance by without doubt the greatest singer songrwriter of the generation .
May PH rest in peace💜
We miss Paul Hester.
RIP Paul...lost my beloved sister in the same way :(
Fuck they were great. And when Hessie opens his gob in the chorus...melt. And I'm a boobie lovin' man.
RIP Paul...lost my beloved sister in the same way :(
My favorite song writing since Lennon/McCartney and Neil has that ability to get you feeling every emotion in one song and sometimes at one time. Just magic, and I definitely miss Paul.
Magical performance of a masterpiece.
I'm fucking obsessed with this band
. 22/July 2021. 🇬🇧
Undoubtedly Neil Finn was the brains of the band but in a way for me Paul Hester was the heart and soul of the band.
The best period of Crowded House and in my opinion their best album Together Alone. RIP Hessie 💜🇦🇺
Wow. Amazing version of this song. Paul Hester is so good on drums and backing vocals on this.
Neil's vocals sound perfect every time, he probably only does one take in the studio
Amazing, mesmerizing performance. So Beatles' influenced sounding like" Your Bird Can Sing" fused with "Nowhere Man".Wherever happened to the Inspiration and love thoughtful human beings used to have? I am starting to think that we are together alone....Hope I'm wrong.
paul realy gets into it hootin and hollerin....awesome
Shouldn't all bands be able to perform this well?
You'd think so...
V gg
Fml I miss being young in the 90s. Crowded House were and still are amazing.
This was a great performance and Neil is such a good writer and performer. Miss you Paul!
Thanks for posting this.
Such an amazing song - the hooks, melodies and lyrics.... prob best live vox by Neil (I’ve heard on YT )....seems to come so easy and natural cf “it’s easy to forget...”
Te Awamutu`s finest.........awesome...
Agreed!
I dont pretend to know what you want....but I offer love..... (Oh Yeah, Great Lyric- Te Awamutu finest) Love it. ;-)
You're on Prime time US television, with millions of people watching who have probably never even heard of Crowded House before, and what do you do, choke? Not a bit of it! You give a live performance of such rip roaring brilliance that viewers choke on their beers and send mouthfuls of pizza down the wrong way!!
Neil Finn one of the best songwriters ever
Correct
wow neil du bist voller kraft und leidenschaft
Awesome band !saw them live for my first time last year. Too bad I could not enjoy the original band but still Neil and Nick keep the good memories alive
It's moving to hear Paul Hester calling out at 3.17 at "I face the day...just like everybody else" until that day in Elsternwick Park.
Totally kick ass! Neil’s baggy pants were epic
Neil's vocals here are just breathtaking.
Out of their Native Australia...The singer is from New Zealand.
Crowded House to me isnt an Australian band or a New Zealand band. They are an Anzac band
Nice try Neil himself said the original line up were an Australian band formed in Melbourne where they ALL lived at the time. His son Liam was born in Melbourne too.
@@ykook7000 Neil's second grandkid is called Mania. That's psychiatrically offensive and so Liam is a dickhead.
Seems like it used to be that you couldn't get your international break in New Zealand, so you had all this talent coming over to Australia to get on the world stage. And us Aussies were perfectly happy to take them and claim credit. Now it seems NZ is getting the recognition it deserves :)
This song shows clearly just how important Paul Hester was to CH :) great mix of vocal with Neil. rip x
Great work again Ty!
These guys were at the top of their game at this time. Just a fantastic piece of songwriting, you can't match the vibe.
This gets better with each listen. Great performance!
No nets, just a pure and powerful live performance, by true performers. Crowded House is an amazing band.
Oh my, all these years...this band has been one of my favs. Neil Finn, you rock. Loved you long time! Saw you in Victoria BC back in 2010, and you didn't disappoint,. Music that will live on forever
Dust from a distant sun, my favourite Crowded house song. Seen them live 3 times, takes me back to my simpler times in my youth ♥️
Ty, Thanks for the the Crowded House Vids. Great Stuff
Paul Militello You're welcome Paul. I'm glad folks are still enjoying them!
How did Nick Seymour get such a great trebly bass tone while playing with his fingers? I don't know what bass he is playing, but it looks like an Ampeg amp. It sounds more like an SWR Redhead.
Absolute perfction this never ages. His vocals on this is like honey.
Crowded House to me isnt an Australian band or a New Zealand band. They are an Anzac band
They're slowly becoming an American band these days. Even though Neil is a Kiwi and Nick is from OZ, Mark Hart and Matt Sherrod are Americans. We need to keep this a secret....:)
Good call, mate..... They are an ANZAC band
I dont pretend to know what you want ............... Best song thankyou Finn brothers xxxx
But i offer love :)))
Leanne Merton so beautiful, he's an amazing song writter
Leanne Merton
Could I have a playstation instead?
So sad about Paul, RIP m8
Neil is a multi millionaire, he releases and tours on a regular basis and I think he is happy with that! He never wanted the fame of Prince or Led Zealand (🤣) or the Ruttles, I know also that serious and famous Musicians respect his talent and he Mentors many young and upcoming Players... he is a very busy man and I would say that he is content with what he has achieved this time around.
Talented people. Waaaay more talent than the network
I've had the honour and pleasure of singing onstage with Neil, such a brilliant and humble Man. This was a fantastic performance and well mixed for TV.. for once 😁
A week or so ago, Jason Momoa was in New Zeland. I told him he should give you a call Neil, I doubt anyone listens to me!
Their last great album...and up until that point they only made great albums. I can't say the same for their post-Hester albums. Neil Finn is still a genius, though.
Really cool hey... Shivers up my arms... these AUSSIE's haha make me so proud.
Oz.. NZ.. Does it really matter? They were a BAND.. The sum of their parts.. All the parts worked together..
