Amazing group. Neil Finn doesn't get the recognition he deserves as one of the great songwriters and performers of his era. I don't say that lightly. I've attended many of their concerts. Crowded House fans always know Finn's beautiful song lyrics and sing even when Neil stops. Such a rare talent, he is.
Probably the best TV performance I've seen for Crowded House. Neil and Hester vocals are spot on. Mark Hart adds a completeness. Lots of energy. Distant Sun is one of the best songs on their best album. Should have been a massive hit in the US. It's their last song to chart in the US.
Perfect..just a perfect performance. You can see it gradually dawning on Neil that they are delivering perfection by the time he reaches the end of "...but I offer love." and you can see him revelling in the moment. I love the power of melody and musicianship.
@@jackkallemdjian3945 Yes. He was a musical genius and just a generally funny man. Who knew? Sometimes those that are gifted in that way are like that. They can be ticking timebombs because they see the world and themselves, very differently. Very sad.
The vocals in this performance are superb. The backing harmonics by Mark and Nick... Haunting. Even better, is how Neil and Paul's voices complement each other perfectly. This is real music.
Great song by a band that I believe to be one of the best from that era. Loved hearing the two part harmony with Paul Hester on the chorus and bridge ; he is missed.
As a fellow Kiwi now living in USA I have seen the boys live many times. I think this was one of the best performances of their career. They worked their asses off and I am so proud to be both a kiwi and an Australian (yes I lived their for many years to). Well done Crowded House and thank you for all the years of great GREAT music. I am keeping you guys alive by blasting your songs around America
Mark Brady I think I have to agree I've seen many other performances but this is the best. The vocals and harmonies are bang on and they are playing with a lot of emotion
Spring 94, happened to be sitting in front of the tv and they came on ( As it was then...)This version kicks ass. Then saw them in Boston a week later. Could never ever understand why this band was not huge in the States. In music circles they were revered by all from Eddie Vedder, Elvis Costello, and Dave Musatine ....
@@TheReubenKincaid I know Don't Dream It's Over and a couple of other hits made it fairly big over here in the USA but these boys have had a dynamite career. Before forming Crowded House Neil and his Brother Tim were in a band called Split Enz (New Zealand) and they were huge. Tim split off after 10 years of smash hits and formed his own band and they are still going. Love those boys!
Mark Brady Loved The Enz. I Got You was my intro in 1980. Then MTV in the early days played them. Then they vanished. I remember in early 87 reading a blurb in Rolling Stone about CH . The borrowed a mic tape from a bud that had DDIO then I was a fan ever since
You are the first to ever claim to be both a kiwi and from Oz. They are both distinct and separate countries and the kiwis I know, having lived there for 3 years would never claim to be from Oz. It’s a insult .
I've had the honour and pleasure of singing onstage with Neil, such a brilliant and humble Man. This was a fantastic performance and well mixed for TV.. for once 😁
Does anybody remember hearing a song on the radio for the first time, loving it, and then realizing half way through it was the new song from your favorite band? That was this song for me.
Mike Deveau yep, and now, twenty four years later, my group is performing it, and somehow I'm singing it.!?! I've loved this song since the first listen!
We're pretty small-time and keep our chops up by playing senior's homes but we hope to do a full all-ages show or two this summer. Played Canada Day last year just outside of town and it was a blast!
We Still mourn Paul Hester's Death. Such a great Soul, Awesome drummer, gentle soul. Depression is a killer, even if takes over you, Don't deprive us of your beauty by taking your own life. Paul will live forever as long as we speak of him. So let's continue the conversation for all who have travelled this dark road and obliterate it's toll.
And another thing, it is remarkable how melodic and tight this performance is. God I wish artists like this would take over the scene again and take it away from the lame shit shoved at us today.
Seems like it used to be that you couldn't get your international break in New Zealand, so you had all this talent coming over to Australia to get on the world stage. And us Aussies were perfectly happy to take them and claim credit. Now it seems NZ is getting the recognition it deserves :)
Oh my, all these years...this band has been one of my favs. Neil Finn, you rock. Loved you long time! Saw you in Victoria BC back in 2010, and you didn't disappoint,. Music that will live on forever
Awesome band !saw them live for my first time last year. Too bad I could not enjoy the original band but still Neil and Nick keep the good memories alive
My favorite song writing since Lennon/McCartney and Neil has that ability to get you feeling every emotion in one song and sometimes at one time. Just magic, and I definitely miss Paul.
Damn this line up was good. This was when they were at there best - still chasing it and hungry but mature enough to have defined their own thing and not following what everybody else was doing.
They used this song at the end of a My Life Is Murder episode (Series/Season 3). Lucy Lawless’s character, Alexa Crowe, is a Crowdie. ❤ Nice bit of backstory running through the series. Makes me love it even more!
Magnificent!!! Great version
Songwriting, musicianship, vocals, harmonies. They have it all.
Damn straight...probably their best song. Big influence on me. Bloody luv em.
❤
Neil's vocals here are just breathtaking.
Neil Finn's voice, the wonderful 12 string.... This is so awesome....
🍀💪🤓ohhhh yes. I saw him in Mainz/Germany 30 years ago.........
This song = Perfection.
Paul Hester.. what a loss.
RIP Paul Hester - Drummer
2022 this track still has traction!
of course it does...the modern stuff is shit
Love Paul Hester's vocals on this, and of course his drumming.
Amazing voice. Full of pure emotion and a beautiful, natural rasp
We miss Paul Hester.
It's Neil Finn on vocals.
His voice is soaring in this..

Paul macartney said he was the best songwriter in the world, I'd say that's recognition.
Rarely a truer word spoken.
Ab so bloody lutely
Amen brother. Neil truly has a gift for songwriting.
This song just makes me cry..I have no idea why.....
It's my favorite love song, truly. 'I don't pretend to know what you want, but I offer love.' Gorgeous, gorgeous, words.

Neil Finn doesn't get anywhere near enough credit for his singing voice. He's sensational.
Perfect..just a perfect performance. You can see it gradually dawning on Neil that they are delivering perfection by the time he reaches the end of "...but I offer love." and you can see him revelling in the moment. I love the power of melody and musicianship.

Rest In Peace Paul Hester.
Absolutely the best live version of this I have seen. Terrific.
just found it now! epic
At least he didn’t mix up the verses. If. U haven seen, watch Joan Rivers a few years earlier than this. Too dang cute!
Just found this recently. Maybe the best live song ever.
Shouldn't all bands be able to perform this well?
Amazing voice. Full of pure emotion and a beautiful, natural rasp
How on earth can anyone dislike Distant Sun?
Nobody dislikes it
The song that got me through 200+ days of lockdown 2020 - 21. Each year that passes it means more.

What an amazing song and live performance
Neil's vocals here are just breathtaking.
And even now at 64 his vocals are still fantastic, I just saw them in concert and his voice is very impressive
Trop de chance d'aller le voir en concert. J'aimerai tellement y aller.
@@wennit Oui, ils se produisent vraiment bien en direct ! Peut-être que tu pourras y aller à un moment donné.
Stunning... without a doubt the best band since the Beatles

This is live. Superb.

I think this is the best live version of the song!
Caroline Lee they’re all in fine form. Neils vocal, Marks guitar, Nicks backgrounders vocals - Paul’s drums - they nailed it
I think it may be the best live version of any song I've ever heard.
MrHooskerdu1 maybe the best live song ever.So Good
There’s no one to blame!
No doubt!!
Fantastic mix too, especially for live TV.
Wicked song!
Saw them last night in London; opened with this! Glorious evening - go see them if you can nab a ticket.
This song makes my soul explode with joy.
How did this spot not make Crowded House househa old name in America... brilliance on full display...
No nets, just a pure and powerful live performance, by true performers. Crowded House is an amazing band.
I'm subscribed to every source for Crowded House songs. Can't get enough.

High mark for this band. They were very very good. Unpretentious great song writers & players.
