When My Kiwi mates couple came here from Melbourne, Australia, in the Kansai region almost 6 years ago, I took them to Hanamaru Udon noodles store/shop in Shinsaibashi-suji shopping arcade,Osaka city!! it was the first late dinner for them in Japan :)
I was so happy when I discovered an udon shop opened in a mall I frequent! It's set up exactly like this and yay free wi-fi! XD It really brought back memories of being in Japan when I was 6. I'm also extremely happy about how cheap it is.
I love your videos so much! Please do more food vlogs!! Your videos are the only thing that keeps me from going insane. I have been wanting to go to Japan since I was seven and I've been studying like crazy! Can't wait to try all these foods for myself!!
I love udon over ramen honestly, the first time I had it was on my birthday and was Kitsune Udon and I fell in love with it! Like the chewy noodles are so good, but I'd love to try it cold some time. :3
More Shine and Cat. Sharla back in Japan. I've been making my own udon dishes, but it's always 2 or 3 dollars a pound at the grocery stores. Pasta is cheaper, so I've been subbing that, and adding some mochi.
It is the same thing in your higher end Chinese resturants, the chefs makes the noodles fresh as well. Those are the highly prized long noodles that you see at Chinese banquets especially at marriages since it is a symbol of longevity.
Udon is my favourite noodles. There's an Asian based restaurant here in Denmark, whenever I'm there I get udon noodles. With chicken, vegetables and a soup base. It's extremely delicious.
Hope I get to go to Japan some time in the future with my friends! I'll make sure to look back at your videos to find some cool and amazing places to go Sharla!~ ^.^
Love this video! Up until very recently, I assumed udon was the same as ramen. I had my first ramen a couple of months ago and was shocked at the difference! My fave local sushi place in America had an "udon noodle soup" with tempura shrimp, soft egg, fish cake, veggies I think?, and the 7 spice seasoning that you can add if you want. I'm sure it's very Americanized, but your yummy video made me so nostalgic for it! Thank you!
I LOVE udon! I've only ever had it in Canada though... I honestly don't know if I could pick between ramen or udon, but I love how chewy udon nooodles are. So good!
Nice show of different Udon noodles styles. I had the cold ones for the first time in Philippines. But I prefer noodles served warm. Good choices, looked yummy =)
YES! I love ramen but everyone is always raving about it and I'm here like, slurping my udon in the corner haha. It's still hearty but it's more refreshing than ramen, and I don't feel like going into a greasy food coma afterwards.
First time viewing your channel. I really enjoyed this video, it was excellent, plus, now I'm hungry..so you just earned yourself a new subscriber! Congratulations!
I love getting Beef Udon at a nearby conveyor sushi shop. It's just a simple beef udon. Basically Miso with a few extra onions, beef, and couple other things, and of course the noodles. Nothing fancy, but super good when you are getting sushi.
I prefer Udon, too. I'm making a vegetarian udon in a shiitake and vegetable broth for lunch today. Ramen is ok, but I love the texture and taste of udon!
I usually get the instant type and add green onion and some kameboko slices. I tastes almost as good as the restaurant version and you don't have to go out to eat.
Yum! I prefer udon too. Batter bits at old school British fish and chip shops are called scraps. It's not on the menu, but you can ask for scraps with your chips (fries).
Those which a guy behind mentioned as "leftovers" are what we call either "tenkasu" or "agetama (agedama)", when you make tempura those little pieces are left on the cooking oil. we call "tanuki-udon" when we eat them on the top of normal hot (kake) udon.
I recently tried some microwavable udon that I found at a store here in the US. But it was miso soup flavored and I really didn't like it. When I move back home from university in the summer I'm going to try to make some on my own. Because it looks sooo yummyyyy.
I went to the Hanamaru in Akiba with a friend who loves udon and enjoyed the experience but still a ramen/soba boy. Did like how you could customize things a lot more and the tempura items really kicked it up a notch.
Ah I remember when I was younger I rlly loved udon and I remember I went hyper over this video because sharla did a pretty pog video on the udon lmao also einshines there I miss him sed
omg thank you for teaching us what all the udon are called!! I can't really read Kanji anymore haha... I think I went to this place when I was studying abroad, wish I knew about the ontama udon, it looks so good!!
I came to love udon when I was in Kagawa, aka Udon Ken lol. It was easy to eat often because you can get quality udon in Kagawa for 2-300 yen. I also much prefer it to ramen! Zaru udon is one of my favorite things to eat in the summer.
Hello Sharla! Was in Japan this past november, and we went to the store in Shibuya with my friends! We really liked it! and yeap, its reaaaaaaaaaaaally cheap. Now i want badly a bukkake udon. Thanks for sharing :p
I think you should make a video on easy ways to learn how to use chopsticks, i really want to learn but i live in a country that is very fond of forks and knifes. It looks so professional when you eat with them and i really want to learn. Love the video :3
I had some shrimp yakisoba at a Japanese restaurant (I know that's not the same as going there but I don't think I'll be visiting Japan anytime soon) and it was the best thing I've ever eaten, I get hungry thinking about it!!! Haha it was the best!
Sharla has - hands down - the most informative channel about Japan, while still managing to make her videos cute and very interesting.
+Kristina Wilson Aww I'm so glad you find it helpful! :D
Bring on the bukkake jokes
+Sharla in Japan hahah!! xD

+Sharla in Japan Ok.
I'll try to restrain myself.
You saw those jokes coming, didn't ya?

I love the informative style of this video, Sharla! I'm just getting into udon and it's great to see all the different types :)
Tempura Eggplant is my favorite type of tempura but it's so hard to come by in the states. Udon is also one of my favorite dishes.
Thanks to you Sharla now I'm adding some udon to my grocery list for next week lol, that ontama with tempura shrimp looked so good!
I love your videos so much! Please do more food vlogs!! Your videos are the only thing that keeps me from going insane. I have been wanting to go to Japan since I was seven and I've been studying like crazy! Can't wait to try all these foods for myself!!
mmm warm, tasty and fresh bukkake for such a low price😂.
+ChanoineStraub I don't know, I was just making bukkake jokes as sharla said so in the comments😂
What is bukake?
+Person McPerson it's... ummmm.... a term famous in ...porn.... I wouldn't recommend you to Google its images😉😂

I love udon over ramen honestly, the first time I had it was on my birthday and was Kitsune Udon and I fell in love with it! Like the chewy noodles are so good, but I'd love to try it cold some time. :3
omg all those different udon menus look sooo goood
coming here post covid and seeing you touch the menu and all the stuff is very weird now lol
ahhhh the good old days
now i want udon bad
Everything you eat in Japan looks AMAZING! I'm so jealous!
Love it! There's no udon shops or Japanese restaurants in my area so I have to make my udon from scratch, but they aren't hard to make.
More Shine and Cat. Sharla back in Japan. I've been making my own udon dishes, but it's always 2 or 3 dollars a pound at the grocery stores. Pasta is cheaper, so I've been subbing that, and adding some mochi.
I had some of these in Osaka, you could see the cooks make the fresh noodles in front of you ! that was pretty cool. and tasty !
It is the same thing in your higher end Chinese resturants, the chefs makes the noodles fresh as well. Those are the highly prized long noodles that you see at Chinese banquets especially at marriages since it is a symbol of longevity.
Yay, someone else who likes udon and soba more than ramen! :D I like udon the very best, especially niku udon!
I want to go to Japan so bad....

Me too
+tiaxanderson bedankt/thanks
ME TOO!
+SImply Belle SAME T.T
Udon is my favourite noodles. There's an Asian based restaurant here in Denmark, whenever I'm there I get udon noodles. With chicken, vegetables and a soup base. It's extremely delicious.
A tip: for the beef udon, try with the ontama option then dip it in the yolk. Taste real good
looks so so yummy Sharla. Cannot wait to try
OMG is that Cathy Cat from Ask Japanese? I love that channel!! I love both of your channels!!! 😍
All of the udon looks really yummy! Really wish there were udon shops here in the states. I'm really wanting to try some. *mouth waters*

so many great choices of udon, looks great
Udon is my comfort meal! It needs more attention!
that looked absolutely delish!!!
I had Udon for the first time a few days ago. We finally got a noodle house near my home in the U.S. It was so good.
While I was in Japan I always chose udon over any other noodle. It's my favourite!
I actually LOOOOOOVE Udon so much!! It looks fantastic!!
Going to those stereotypical ramen stands is on my brother and I's bucket list but I might have to try udon too 😛😍
YES! I love ramen but everyone is always raving about it and I'm here like, slurping my udon in the corner haha. It's still hearty but it's more refreshing than ramen, and I don't feel like going into a greasy food coma afterwards.

うどんは関西以西が主流なので、若い頃は東京ではポピュラーではありませんでした。最近は、東京でも普通に美味しいうどんが食べられるようになりましたね!
I prefer Udon, too. I'm making a vegetarian udon in a shiitake and vegetable broth for lunch today. Ramen is ok, but I love the texture and taste of udon!
はなまるを紹介してもらって嬉しい。はままる大好き。今日も食べに行った。週に2回くらいは行ってる。特にこの寒い季節。何が美味しいって、掻き揚げが美味しい。
I usually get the instant type and add green onion and some kameboko slices. I tastes almost as good as the restaurant version and you don't have to go out to eat.
+Dan Hayami -- I also add some thinly sliced cabbage and carrots, too. So good.
+Dan Hayami the best part of it is to eat it outside with friends, if you remove that... well, it's just udon
+Wailor Castellano Thats so fucking true m8
true
I'll love to try udon one day! Love you Sharla! ❤
I had bukkake udon before. Had it in the Tokyo Skytree. Didn't even think about the correlation with the "other" bukkake lmao

I had the chance to try the tempura udon a few days ago at a japanese restaurant here at Mexico at I totally LOVED IT!
Yum! I prefer udon too. Batter bits at old school British fish and chip shops are called scraps. It's not on the menu, but you can ask for scraps with your chips (fries).
I personally love Udon (and Soba) noodles - Now I am totally hungry....
When I went to Japan with my family we almost had udon for every meal. Udon is that good !
I would probably do the same with the sesame seeds. They are too yummy.
Wow the pan and zoom when you showed the section on top. 👍🏼👍🏼👌🏻
GREAT VIDEO..... I LOVE Udon!!!!
Those which a guy behind mentioned as "leftovers" are what we call either "tenkasu" or "agetama (agedama)", when you make tempura those little pieces are left on the cooking oil. we call "tanuki-udon" when we eat them on the top of normal hot (kake) udon.
OMG YAS PREACH!!! Udon is so much better than ramen to me! I love it so much. Homemade is so good! I love to eat all the time.
I recently tried some microwavable udon that I found at a store here in the US. But it was miso soup flavored and I really didn't like it. When I move back home from university in the summer I'm going to try to make some on my own. Because it looks sooo yummyyyy.
I never tried udon-noodles when I was in Japan the last time but this time I'll make sure that i do! Looks delicious :)
I went to the Hanamaru in Akiba with a friend who loves udon and enjoyed the experience but still a ramen/soba boy. Did like how you could customize things a lot more and the tempura items really kicked it up a notch.
+Perdomot Try Rakukama next time, if you didn't already. (they have a shop in Nishi Shinjuku) ^^

130 Yen? That's less than a pound! Where is this magical shop as I may have to visit it in May.
This is the best episode u made. I REALLY WANT TO TRY UR NOODLE ITS LOOKS SO DELICOUS!!!:((
I think you should make a video on easy ways to learn how to use chopsticks, i really want to learn but i live in a country that is very fond of forks and knifes. It looks so professional when you eat with them and i really want to learn. Love the video :3
I too prefer udon to ramen, one of my favorite Japanese dishes.

I had some shrimp yakisoba at a Japanese restaurant (I know that's not the same as going there but I don't think I'll be visiting Japan anytime soon) and it was the best thing I've ever eaten, I get hungry thinking about it!!! Haha it was the best!
Japan has some well known Udon areas. Sanuki, Inaniwa etc.
The Hanamaru Udon is a udon chain of Sanuki Udon.
I wish we had this kind of food where I live. At home I don't like very much but when I look at this.... I'd eat anything. PS; Cathy! :D Yay
