"Fast food" obviously doesn't mean the same thing in Japan as in the US because you would not see the attention to detail, the freshness and handmade aspects. And then there's the udon masters. There's no equivalent to anything like that in the US. I'm jealous.
It was in Japan that I learned that fast food did not equal unhealthy options. I loved the fact that for the same price and waiting time as a Big Mac, I could get udon or rice bowls that were healthy and filling.
One of the very attractive qualities about Japanese people, it's the main thing that makes watching those videos so enjoyable, gives you a sense of peace and order and passion.
Of course it has nothing to do with them knowing their bosses will watch the video later haha The way the pastry lady talked looked like she was in front of her superiors or potential customers: "we make udon every day to provide the best taste possible [...] to have a consistent quality we pay attention to every step"

...almost all kinds of restaurants have some kind of plate/bowl heater. Often nowadays it's more like an electric oven that automatically pushes up over time as dishes get removed. This is just a primitive, effective way of doing it.
One of my favorite things about these sorts of places in Japan is how, no matter the weather or anything, people like businessmen will slurp down a whole bowl in under 5 minutes, no waiting for cooling. Saw that several times over my trips there, it's honestly impressive.

For anyone who doesn't know, one of my favorite Japanese dishes is featured at 9:00. Its called a Katsu don and is typically comprise of fried pork cutlet and onions, boiled in a sweet umami based sauce with fresh egg cracked over top and steamed for 20 to 40 seconds. Then it is served over a bed of rice. The rice absorbs the liquid, the pork is still crispy, and the onions are nice and soft. The egg adds a nice richness as well. Highly recommend trying this dish. It can also be made with other type of meat, like chicken!
I worked fast food in Sweden. We take delivery of the frozen food, We thaw the frozen food. We heat the thawed food. We serve the warm food. Such food much wow

I just found out Marugame Udon is actually a well known udon restaurant in Japan. There is one marugame udon open at stonestown galleria - san francisco. a Plaza next to San Francisco State University. I've been there many times and I always get the Curry Udon. It is my favourite. :D

They have Marugame Udon in northern California. I live in Orange County and we have one here and several in LA. They have one in SF and another one in Berkeley. Some in Texas and Hawaii as well.

I used to work at Marugame In Honolulu, Hawaii. Man I wish I had co workers who do their job like this instead of calling in sick, complain, and quit cuz they can't handle working pressure. I had to handle cooking noodle, prepping broth, and sometimes prepping every line each week. I respect workers in Japan. Always know the value of hard work and perfection

Marguame Udon (as it's known in the States) is SUCH an amazing restaurant. Got to try it at the first US location in Waikiki and fell in love. Soon after they opened a location in SF (where I'm from) and it's been a usual go to spot for my family since then. Even though I don't live in SF anymore i always try to make an effort to go whenever I visit!
This quality serve is so Japanese. I remember the first Japanese food I ate while in Japan is Udon. And that was very delicious. No wonder they made it perfectly.

I live in Tokyo and yes, in here Marugame is certainly considered as a fast food ( just like Matsuya, Yoshinoya etc ) because it is fast AND cheap.

I always went to that chain restaurant after school when I studied in Japan! The food was so delicious and cheap! I loved every dish!

I used to work at Marugame In Honolulu, Hawaii. Man I wish I had co workers who do their job like this instead of calling in sick, complain, and quit cuz they can't handle working pressure. I had to handle cooking noodle, prepping broth, and sometimes prepping every line each week. I respect workers in Japan. Always know the value of hard work and perfection

lol it's nice to see that I'm not the only one who likes kake udon, I sometimes feel like people are judging me thinking it's too plain cause there's not extra stuff but I really love udon and its delicious even by itself and with some green onion and egg

Marguame Udon (as it's known in the States) is SUCH an amazing restaurant. Got to try it at the first US location in Waikiki and fell in love. Soon after they opened a location in SF (where I'm from) and it's been a usual go to spot for my family since then. Even though I don't live in SF anymore i always try to make an effort to go whenever I visit!
This quality serve is so Japanese. I remember the first Japanese food I ate while in Japan is Udon. And that was very delicious. No wonder they made it perfectly.

Udon is love udon is life. Eat them for a whole week straight in school in Japan and I have no regrets lol

Marugame just opened a couple of locations in the Dallas, TX area. It's great to see them expanding into the US.

@@jarjarbinks3193 They are franchised, but having been to the Marugame in Berkeley, California, I can tell that the company holds their franchisees to high standards amd cares about the customer experience. Very different when you compare it to Yoshinoya U.S. vs Japan.
@@jerseydevs2000 The problem is the way how restaurant workers are treated/paid in the US! If it is not a livable wage like they get in Japan, it is impossible to expect anywhere near the same level of service.
