    The obvious KEYone feature to focus on would be the hardware KEYboard, but another part of this phone is stealing the limelight. Namely, the insane battery life from the large cell, small screen, and lower power processor. Are we back to the runtime found on Blackberries of old?

      JuanBagnell Moto Z play, LG X Power (late 2016 U.S. Cellular variant), and ZTE Blade V8 Pro are all battery life monsters. The LG X Power has a SD210 in it though if I remember correctly. I had it for the 15 day trial period from U.S. Cellular while looking for a replacement phone for my Google (Motorola) Nexus 6 which has a failing battery, but I still keep it powered on! I love the Nexus 6!

    You are absolutely right, a lasting phone is much more important than a few milliseconds when loading up an app.

    Coming from an S7 edge, I've had my Keyone for 6 days and I can honestly say I'll never need another phone until they hopefully release the Keytwo. It's my first BlackBerry and I'm in love with it I just wish they had released it sooner.

    Got the KEYOne as a replacement for PRIV that died prematurely. At first, I was shocked that I didn't get a Priv, but quickly realized that this is a superior phone to the Priv - and to any others. Great runtime! This review sums it up very expertly!!!!

      It's tough to show off on camera. Setting exposure, changing light conditions. Any time I look to add something to a review, I want to be able to standardize it, so people can see the differences between phones easily, WITHOUT me having to reshoot multiple comparisons for every phone we review.

    Juan Carlos - excellent point. It is hard for phone enthusiasts to abandon the idea that only the top processor, overclocked - if rooted, with 6 Gb of ram is worth having in your pocket. If benchmarks were the only thing that mattered, we'd all be baaing blissfully in the walled garden.

    If possible, the Lenovo P2, same chipset, but with a 5100 mAh battery. That way you can compare software from Blackberry with that from Lenovo to see if optimitations help or not with battery life and performance.

    • @DastoTech
      @DastoTech 7 років тому +2

      Stijn Decolvenaer - I've had Lenovo P2(UK version, 4gb ram) for 3weeks. It's the best phone I've ever had. Fast charge 1hr to full and then 2-3days without topping up. When playing Pokémon Go with max screen brightness, Bluetooth headset, podcasts and Fitbit the battery goes down 10% per hour so no need for a power bank.

    • @DastoTech
      @DastoTech 7 років тому +1

      Mc Peyn - I don't know about the Note 4 as I haven't tried it but I went with the P2 as on the back of the phone it states "manufactured for Lenovo by Motorola". My old original Moto G is still going so wanted to stick with Moto build quality. You can also update the Android version without root from UK to ROW(rest of world). So you are getting updates directly from Lenovo(Moto) not phone network (carrier).

    The other thing that is not considered is the actual radio in the phone. A smartphone isn't any good if you have to keep it plugged in AND if you can't make a call or connect to the network. This phone excels at power management AND connectivity. My wife's phone and daughter's phone (both good Apple products) struggle in both regards compared to my BlackBerry. The other key is shortcuts and the BlackBerry shines (gets it done quickly with less S.O.T.).... keyboard tactile feedback is way better than screen typing especially with large thumbs. Thanks for an unbiased review.

    I'm a really big fan of my KeyOne. It's probably the best phone I've ever owned, even if other phones continue to have a special place in my heart. I still have 42% battery life when my head hits the pillow at night. Crazy. I agree with your review... maybe it's time we all re-think how we should judge true "performance" for these devices?

I've bought a Keyone and can resonate that the battery, build, camera and even speed are all top notch. I really hope people see through the Blackberry/PKB stigma and give it a go. Best phone I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot.

    I care a lot about how fast my phone is. Thing is, if the battery is dead, the speed is 0.
    That's why the Blackberry KEYone has higher benchmark scores than the Galaxy S8. Because when the S8 dies, it scores 0.

    while typing, i now I have over 7 hours SOT with 22 hours use on my Galaxy S8+. Streamed an entire movie to Chromecast, music for about an hour and a half, about an hour of phone calls, currently streaming UA-cam to a Chromecast, Instagram all day, maybe 20 photos... I'm sure I could get close to that battery life on this phone with similar use. I'm gonna need to put this to the test. With that said, that KeyOne battery sounds phenomenal

    Finally! Someone talking about the importance of battery life and how they use it. Most reviewers simply say "the phone lasts all day" and don't explain further. You buy the phone and find out the battery life is atrocious. The high-end phones have such poor battery life that it is borderline criminal. I want to get the S8 because it is a lovely phone but seeing how i am charging my S7 a few times a day, makes me question if these high-end phones are really worth it at the end.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 років тому

      Makes me sad that removable batteries are basically gone. When I have to charge a phone a couple times a day, I'm burning that cell out even faster.

    I would like to see this phone compared to the Blackberry Priv to get an idea of how much Blackberry has improved in the past couple of years. This phone is really impressive for a Blackberry that probably won't get that much attention due to its unique form-factor.

    Thanks for making the point of "who" the keyone is made for. The audience is absolutely the point of this device. The battery life is a critical factor among others that would make consider this phone. Great supplemental review! :-)
    Can you add whether the recharging with quick charge really is as fast as reported?

  • @slainbisley5341
    @slainbisley5341 7 років тому

    The amazing part of the last update for KEYone is that it's start some apps quicker then the Samsung S8, also in games the KEYone loads if faster in the beginning but then the S8 makes somes times a leap to make it a second faster to load a big app like that 3D game. Still daily apps are quicker or the same in startup then the Samsung S8. That made the KEYone a big win in performance and then thinking BlackBerry is till tweaking the OS and the apps like the hub and camera. I mist admit if you all in for gaming then you wanted a full and big screen, but if it's only playing puzzle games,strategy games, sociaal media and youtube and music/radio the KEYone is the best device in bugs you can get with an amazing keyboard that rocks.
    Fun part of the Keyone all apps are app that are good but if you don't wanted to use them you can delelte them till there is only a stock rom left. Samsung has a lott of bloatware that criple the device in performance, lag and battery life and the device. BlackBerry tweaks there device better. BlackBerry 10 is also from the same os tree but tweaked so much better in performance, multitasking and using the momory much better I hope they bring in more from BlackBerry 10 into Android. Waht I say that they have experience and a goal to make Android better.

    I have another SD625 phone (Moto Z Play) and I've enjoyed it more than any flagship I had in the past. Battery life is king: better graphics, and buttery smoothness don't mean jack if your phone is dead. Add to that the fact that anybody except for gamers won't even notice a performance drop with the SD625, and the verdict is clear. Screw flagships and screw whatever Snapdragon 900000 Qualcomm comes out with, I'm aiming for optimized software and hardware packages like the KeyOne in the future.

    I think you should compare the Moto G5 Plus (64GB option) to the Blackberry KeyOne. I think it will be a great comparison, since they have the same chip.

    I love my keyone phone because of the battery life. I use it daily with the screen off also. It lasts almost 36 hours without charge. I have it set for 30 secs display on.

    Great review or feedback on the Keyone. This is why I don't watch the really famous tech vloggers anymore, because they have turned into paper specs monsters. Throw them the latest Samsung or Apple, for sure they'll hail it as the best, failing to consider the other aspects of a mobile phone.

    I need to see some reviewers do a typing comparison of themselves on the KeyOne physical set after a week using the device as their daily driver and then showing us the speed on their normal software keyboard.
    the KeyOne looks like a brilliant package, it seems more about deciding if its for *you* than if its any good.
    I'm imagining now what they could incorporate for the KeyTwo to make it a home run - I think if they could steal the Xiaomi Mi Mix trick of under screen earpiece and then lose the capacitive buttons and using onscreen buttons that disappear in video apps you could fit a normal aspect (wide,1080p) screen into the handset. alternatively,AMOLED would make black bars on videos look like just part of the black plastic edge of the phone.
    can't complain though,excellent camera,battery life and build quality on this phone.

      It's tough though. Feel is really subjective, and whatever I'm using more, will be what I'm better at. It's an issue with familiarity. Why I didn't really bother trying to do any kind of speed test or comparison when I shot the keyboard video. I can still win with text entry on a software keyboard, but whenever I pick up an S8 or G6, I instantly miss the shortcuts I have on the KEYone.

    I mean the Xperia Z2, which I still own and yes it works perfectly, I'm getting and easy 5 and a half hours of screen on time with power using it, 6 hours if I'm casually on low brightness and a bit less 1080p UA-cam videos. Cmon if that ain't good I don't know what is. It performs excellent, it has great battery life, a good 1080p screen, stereo speakers, HiRes audio support... And guess what $214 on Amazon...

    I would say the iPhone 7+ has great battery life. However, that's more expensive. What are the differences between those two devices?

    • @SomeGadgetGuy
      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 років тому

      iOS is more efficient per mAh thanks to better hardware and software optimization. 7+ consistently wins in our battery benchmarks, but I think the KEYone has it beat for real world use. It's less powerful, has a smaller screen, and a bigger battery.

    I feel as though the really interesting comparison lies between this and the iPhone. Bear with me here, the iPhone becomes important especially given that many (not all) BlackBerry owners moved this way. The iPhone also showcases a different idea behind communication, which really is the comparison for a BlackBerry. Productivity vs more simplified UX.
