I love when Taku and Jocelyn feature couples , guides or hosts such as Ian and his wife and they teach us SO MUCH of the local food , traditions and culture. Thank you 🙏👍✌
Absolutely loving these Niue episodes. It's so good seeing such in depth, quality content from such a remote and unknown country. Seems to be a straight up tropical paradise.
watching you is so wholesome, just getting along with strangers and conencting because of a similar passion....this is what kindness and love looks like....gives me chills sometimes just seeing the connections you make
This channel is top grade. Not only are Taku, Jocelyn and the friends they make along the way amazing, the subscribers are the most positive and supporting you can find in any channel on youtube.
WOW That might be my favorite video ever. The warmth of everyone was so heartfelt. The food made me so so hungry. The coconut cream dish was the one that stood out for me. I would love to go to New Zealand and Australia just because of what I have seen of the people that live there. Good job Taku
Seeing Taku shave a coconut like that really reminded me of my childhood. I'm Southeast Asian, but born in Canada. Growing up, we had a little bench similar to that and I would sit and shave the coconut while my mom was prepping food. The nostalgia hit me so hard!!
Amazing adventures in Niue Taku and Jocelyn, welcome to our Pacific Paradise Region. Thank you for sharing,"Doumo arigato gozaimasu", love all your videos, still a loyal fan. Peace !!! Heiwa !!! ❤
Great video!! Amazing catch and cook!! Brings back very, very fond memories of my travels through the South Pacific, spending time in Fiji and Independent Samoa.
Makes me proud to be Samoan cause Ota or Oka is also a staple and a national Samoan dish! Pretty sure Niue is closely related to Samoa as far as language & culinary. Good stuff taku! You should stop by in Samoa!
As the story goes Tongans and Samoans were the first people to arrive on Niue. I think Tongan is more similar to the language as far as I know, but yes you are correct.
What a treat and beautiful family!! So hospitable!! And the girls and just adorable with their accents! Thank you for taking us along. That creamy coconut salad fish dish looked amazing, but then it ALL looked amazing, as always!
About 2 years ago, I had my first taste of wahoo sashimi. I’ve never had wahoo any other way since. I still won’t say no to a grilled steak though. Truly an amazing fish. Aggressive strikes and they can strip your line in seconds. Beautiful too.
They can. I always used 300lb mono trace and rarely if ever lost a lure to ono. Big marlin yes but because they died and sank. Smaller 250 under no prob. Always sad to lose one from heart attack just didnt have te equipt and was not targetting that size. Caught a 60lb cuda ten minutrs later at same 1/4 mile offshore. And caught a Black that true to form charged our boat hitting 20 yrs off stern. Got him but boy scary. Actually mahi worst. My buddy got 2 each 12'0s through his calf . My calf would have broke. He cut tge line and said keep fishing till we got to dock and bolt cutters. Thank god for beer.
Damn, that was a high wire act! First you almost knocked the cleaver off the table, then you risked impaling yourself getting the husks off the coconuts. I love how the fishing was such a minor part of the video. The prep, the cooking and in this case the interaction with the people of the Island was special.
In Cambodia after extracting the cream out of the coconut meat, we would mix it with palm sugar or or brown sugar or any sugar to your liking and frying on frying pan without oil until it turns brown. You can eat it the way it is or you can sprinkle it on the rice balls and eat them with your fried fish.
Loved it, reminded me of home (Tonga) growing up there as a kid. Grated countless number of coconuts. 'Ota is Tongan as well for raw fish dish in coconut cream, polo (red hot pepper), lime juice, green onion, cucumber and tomato, my favourite dish. Taku learned it real fast on the island and can fit in nicely as a local. The Niuean language is most closely related to Tongan than any other Polynesian languages. In fact, "Tongan and Niuean form the Tongic subgroup of the Polynesian languages. Niuean also has a number of influences from Samoan and Eastern Polynesian languages."
Only in Niue u can catch a wahoo fish n that is my homeland thank you for the video hope u enjoy ur stay at our little island Niue much love from Australia
Ian and his family are absolutely amazing people!!!! I am from nyc and will be definitely booking a fishing trip soon. This is one of Taku’s and Joslyns best videos and I can’t wait to visit!!! Looks like you had such a great time and I couldn’t wait to subscribe and watch Ian’s adventures. Great people, great times, Great Food= Great human beings that have great taste! God bless and can’t wait for the next videos ❤
Oh man, I remember using a tool similar to that when grating coconuts as a kid. My mom would always let me help her make various Filipino desserts, and one key thing would be grating coconut. Good times
Captain Fonu and Ian ,,,would love to see another episode of yous both cooking on the shores of 🇳🇺 on captain fonu's boat out on the shore with the sunsetting down ❤️🔥❤️🔥 fakaue taku and Capt Fonu
Hi Tony, I'd love to do a episode with Taku. This was just off the cuff type situation. I honestly knew nothing about Taku really until the day before I took him fishing. If we had a planned episode we could really bring the ♨️
27:50 / 31:22 I can tell the taste by watching. It's a similar recipe here in the Philippines called "kinilaw", our local version of ceviche. Especially in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Where some parts of the regions also add coconut milk or even fresh milk onto the coconut vinegar which it's acidity cooks the raw fish. Yum!
🌴 I’m so glad you two go to do some fishing, I mentioned that you should have brought your fishing rods and here you did the charter 👍🏼 that was fantastic! The food looked so yummy, missing that flight made a great vid you two 👊🏼✌🏼
I’m a professional chef down here in Nola, I go fishing all the time for specs, redfish, sheepshead, flounder. I’ve yet to land a wahoo but I will one day. It’s my absolute favorite fish to eat from the sea
Replace that cucumber and green onions with cilantro and habanero pepper. Add a little bit of garlic and that’s it. You got a Peruvian ceviche. (Of course with salt & pepper).
Special thanks to Ian!?! Man I need a Taku and Ian cooking series! They're great together and you can tell they all genuinely had a great time. And they're both solid chefs.
I commend you for filming and bringing us along once again. That looked like such a good time, I would of said screw filming and just enjoyed the moment.
Great video Taku! I see another great documentary from Outdoor Chef Life coming. Enjoy your adventures. Making memories that will live forever. God Bless and keep the awesome content coming.
Have found that, if you use coconut water from young green coconuts, combined w/older coconut "meat"...results in sweeter tasting coconut cream. When combined w/arrowroot or tapioca flour & heated until high simmer, poured into regular cookie sheet pan or 6x6 brownie/cake pan & chilled, overnight is preferable...VOILA/TADA=Hawaiian haupia "pudding!"
You should try doing a video in the 10,000 islands in the Everglades. If you go with a charter who knows his stuff you can end up coming back with 5 different species in a matter of hours on a good day, would make for a sweet episode!
Hey taku, I'd say I've been watching your channel for quite some time now, everytime you post a video, I legit go "my man" keep up the good work brother
We do this a lot traditional here in Philippines just like that one.. maybe the local there were also Filipino because they did use the old equipment for grating the coconut just like we have here.
Taku next time you get the chance try and find a brown sprouted coconut that's not too far along, if you find one go ahead and open it up and you'll find a coconut within the coconut it's really tasty if you get it just right we call it Hawaiian candy
Awesome video as always!!!! I look forward to your videos every week! I grab a nice local craft beer and watch your content the day they drop! Keep up the amazing work!!!! And if your ever in the central Florida area I hope I get the chance to meet you!
Was an absolute pleasure taking you both fishing and having you round for dinner. Taku is the real deal folks, great fisherman and a great guy.
@Commander Keen thank you for your kind words. I've met and made some great friends over the years from different countries and all walks of life.
Absolute legend, Wish you nothing but a wonder life man

His food is mediocre at best. Same boring cooking technique and flavor profile. That’s why he got fired from his Chef job.
this family is a life goal. they seem so comfortable and confident in what they do and how they live. big love, be well!!!!
Life is good 💛
Absolutely loving these Niue episodes. It's so good seeing such in depth, quality content from such a remote and unknown country. Seems to be a straight up tropical paradise.
I still don't understand how these videos aren't more popular, the content is so well! every dish makes me a bit jealous
People would rather see catch and release to many softies now a days bunch of wimps can't stand a dead animal
I mean to put it simply, not everyone likes fish
Because his content is awkward and poor editing.

My DREAM fish to catch. Way to go!! Also thank you for keeping the filet “mistake” on camera… I do it 80% of the time with Fluke 😅😊😅😊

Wow! Sounds delicious! Cambodia is on my list to visit having already been to Thailand, Vietnam and Bali.
A rubber mallet to smack the clever through the spine works super awesome making steaks. Looks great!
Beautiful fish Wahoo and your cooking was delicious. You made coconut husking look easy. Great series from Niue
Awesome video! Wahoo is on my bucket list of fish to catch. Great videography and story...

It's my knife from my chefing days, its actually worn down heaps from constant use and abuse.
This is one of my favorite videos you made so far!
Beautiful experience and very beautiful hospitality great family
Thank you for your kind words.
It’s very similar to some versions of ‘kinilaw’ in the Philippines. The hospitality of some people are just top-notch.

It was actually purchased at a specialized Asian shop in New Zealand.

Yup. We call it "sponge". Exactly like cotton candy. Raw or cooked with coconut milk. Surprised more chefs dont use it as unique.
Food is the language of all cultures. Work hard and feed friends. Nothing better than that.
Awesome video! Enjoyed it from start to end. Such a nice host couple. Regular people. Thanks.
Congratulations 👏 on the catch buddie and you never fail to impress me with your chef skills 🧑🍳
That all looks so good! You are a lucky couple
Wow that's huge catch. Congrats Taku! 🙌
I’m in Dillingham Alaska and I really want to go to fish there 😊
Leave your Alaska clothes behind, t.shirt and shorts all u need here.
Nothing beats watching Taku fish after midterm season 👍🏻
You can also make coconut oil using the dicarded flakes.
33:40 I heard the Hawaiian coming out on that “half day” 😭🤙🏾
Congrats on your first ono. That's the best tasting one. And you caught it on a small monofilament line. That's good karma. Tight lines
Wahoowa! This looks awesome y'all.
What an awesome video, They are such friendly people. would love to hang out with him and his family.

Wow man, I'm loving it. Niue is the paradise on earth bro.
Just ordered your chili crisp super excited! Can’t wait!
It's awesome, Taku left us a jar, I need to order some more.
I caught a wahoo when I was maybe 10 or 11. I still remember it as being some of the best sashimi ever.
