    Hey Taku, not sure if you're still here in New Zealand or not, but if not, next time you're here you really need to see if you can into some of our Koura, (fresh water crayfish) they are absolutely amazing to catch and eat. Sweet and delicate little things I think you'll love! Please keep enjoying and show casing this beautiful little country of ours!

    The fish caught at 7:15 is known as a hiwihiwi. Other non-native names include eastern kelpfish and surgefish. Apparently the flesh smells pretty bad but I've heard of people that do eat them.

    • @kerrynisbet1514
      @kerrynisbet1514 10 місяців тому +2

      I've eaten them in the past, long time ago from memory they're ok similar to other local kelp fish but less bones. I do spearfish with a Japanese dude who does rate them mainly as sashimi.

    Fantail Bay at the top end of 'Da Mandelz' on the Firth-side not the Pacific side was my weekend getaway spot. Kahawai, Kingz, Snapper and Trevz, nice Squid too.
    Spot you paddled out to looked pretty promising, i would have just dropped a berley bomb in the wash right at your feet or in that gap between the rocks at the end 🤷‍♂️
    Getting the combination of the turn to incoming tide with first 2 to 3 hours from crack of dawn is the key for the freight train Kingies.
    Also try Tipitai Point/Wattle Bay/Orpheus in the Awhitu Peninsula for massive Kahawai, Trevally and biggest Kingies ive seen other than White Island... launch your kayak at Wattle Bay to get to Tipitai Point (known as Cake Island by us local boys) but be warned... the current of the outgoing tide is freaking insane, like deadly😮
    Big Crays, Octopus, and Great Whites😮
    Dead low to incoming first 3 hours then book it outta there in last hour top of tide, dont be paddling when it turns to go out😬

  • @Danielchong424
    @Danielchong424 10 місяців тому

    Hey Taku, use way smaller hooks to get them. I think the stick bait profile is too big too. I tend to use mid size so that both kahawai and kingie takes them too. Easier to get them hook as well. Those size are much more suitable for boat fishing. Loving your NZ series tons. Please do more of this!

      Yeah, me too. He mentioned one time to keep the board clean so the fillets stay clean. Fair enough, every cripple has his own way of walking, as Brendan Behan used to say. I'll stay with filleting the whole fish.
