    My daughter has a farm and about 4 year ago her beef cattle was really bad with ringworm,i can't remember if she got them injected or if it was a pour on she was then told to wash everything down so she hired a steam cleaner and did everything on the highest heat and then sprayed everything with a really strong disinfectant,we did the washing and spraying after everything was put out to the field,and we also did it all again before the cattle come back in and it's seemed to have cleared the ringworm.

    Thanks for another really practical and informative video diary of a very hard working farmer …… when you are pressure washing the cubical sheds, are you adding disinfectant to water - not sure if this would help the ringworm but it should break the cycle of some of the bacterial nasties that can linger only to emerge later ?

    The ring worm is unsightly, and I don't like to see it either, given that the white beast did not get it I would wonder if it was something to do with the pigment of the skin tha might indicate a supplement deficiency, have you had soil test Adrian I know your grass looks strong but might be worth having it tested just to see if everything is in there, very enjoyable can't wait to see what everyone else is at round about you, good luck to you

    • @IFarmWeFarm
      @IFarmWeFarm  2 роки тому

      It’s only strong in about 40%, has a little while to go yet. Yes a supplement deficiency would cause the ringworm been so active over there body. We do soil samples each year but didn’t really look out for that if I’m honest. Might run a few blood tests this week just for curiosity. The ringworm has all but gone since that was film, can’t beat the sunshine 👍

    My dad had ringworm one time in his heifers and used waste engine oil on them. It seemed to work by softening the lesion, but maybe wasn't the best choice because of the toxic materials in it. But that was back in the 1950's. About 30 years later I had an outbreak and after some research, no internet in those days, used a mixture of flowers of sulfa mixed with lard. Never had an problems after that.
    If you do a search for waster oil for ringworm or flower of sulfur, you will find lots of positive comments.

    I have come to the conclusion that although it’s very ugly, UV light fixes it. Perhaps a short daily dose of artificial UV light in the shed may help. Hyperoxide or creosote are quite good at destroying fungus on wooden fittings

    would you not find the petrol powerwasher more expensive to run than the pto?or was there ne specific reason for changing to a petrol from a pto washer?

      That’s a very good question, it’s to early for me to say but it does like it’s fuel. It all depends on the tractor too guess. I’d say there very little in the difference. The handiness though for me is just great, I was always rushing before hand as I would need to do other work with the tractor it would be on. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Horrible thing to look at sums it up. Ringworm doesn't do a great deal of harm but it will spread freely through animals that haven't been exposed to it. They develop resistance fairly quickly and I would more inclined to put improvements in the level of infection down to that than most of the treatments you have been recommended. Last time the cows got it I did too. Canesten cream sped up the process a bit for me but the immune response was the ultimate solution. The farm has been free of it for a while now till the young ones get exposed to it again somehow. Then I'll have to look at it and wince for a while.

    If the dock leaf is bigger than 6 inches the spray is unlikely to work👍

    What was the purpose of the tail paint before the heifers went out to the field? P.s. another great video, as always.

      Just helps me to see if any animals are in heat, when they jump on each other the paint gets rubbed off and we can notice them easier. Simple and cheap but it works well
