Adrian I would just like to thank you for taking your time every week to record yourself working around the farm, I know how difficult that can be especially when your in a rush, it’s really a great thing that you make these entertaining and very informative videos for us to watch for free, I would like to think UA-cam pay you fairly but UA-cam favours quantity over quality. My family sit down on Sunday nights now with the darker evenings and love your videos, best of luck with future calving season and selling your animals.

You have my sympathy Adrian, the government departments don’t care about the stress they can cause. Here in Wales a farmer friend was told to have a word with the Samaritans. I think your reasoning is perfectly sound.

Adrian, in farming the job is the easy but it’s the red tape and pen pushers that make it awkward and difficult. The gov are the ones that cause the problems and that’s why we end up sitting at night filling in endless stupid forms. Be safe and keep doing the job to your usual high standard Adrian 👍

We are living in a time petrification where extreme fear of the slightest risk is over-exaggerated and draconian rules are dreamt up. Another word to describe it is panic!

That fitting will leak again, there’s a special welding Rod you can use on the stick welder for hydraulic lines, it leaves a gold colour finish. It’s a good job, I’ve done several with no issues.

Before i weld anything that has had oil in it i heat it up with a gas blow torch and it burns the oil off, then the mig welding doesnt go pourous due to contamination of the weld from the oil. Also warm steel welds better than cold steel so the heating makes it easier welded. Dont worry Adrian if your weld doesnt look as tidy as you would like, that will come better with practise, if it stopped the oil leak then its a success.

I think exactly the same Keith . I did once leave a comment saying so but I could have worded it better . I’d heard Tom Pemberton remark on how he aspires to have his farm clean one day like Adrian’s , or words to that affect . Unfortunately it sounded like I was dissing Tom’s farm . Well at that moment it was before he even started planning the new shed , they were flooded out in the fields and he just couldn’t keep on top of it , worrying whether they would get a 3rd cut . Then things turned , they got to use the shed down the road , they acquired more land he got his dream Case etc.,etc .,etc.
Adrian reminded me he and Tom are friends , which I knew about but he was right and now you look at the system Tom has to keep the place clean of cow excretions . I’m half expecting to see a commercial version of those little remote vacuum cleaners but whizzing around between the cows’ legs .

Call to TB test ASAP - what happens, a heifer kicks me and breaks the skin under the knee and the operation is postponed for 4 weeks by which time recovery time falls into winter feeding! The stress on getting a friend to feed, rams in with ewes and recovery taking place later than planned is not good. Do DEFRA care or understand - no.

I think that top link is fixed and you will probably still be using it when you retire. I agree with you about the forced tests, some years back the Department forced a TB test on my little herd of 18 suckler cows a month before calving when they had been clear tested a few months before. Two late calving heifers aborted and in 30 years I have never had a cow abort. Cattle react bad to stress and just want to be left alone, just like the owner. It's very annoying and like dealing with Hitler's Nazis and adds stress and uncertainty we could well do without. Different if it was justified.

Great content as always. Bit late to this video, but anyways. I understand your frustration at the timing of the tests and them having to be done again, but from a neutral perspective from a non-farmer, I still remember the foot and mouth outbreaks. I'll never forget seeing full pens of livestock in flames. Some of these regulations and practices are for the betterment of the whole farming community. I'm not laying blame on anyone, but I think there needs to be give and take on both sides to achieve a safe herd and environment.
You demonstrate well what its like for a small independent farm, you keep your practices clean etc, and your herd looks immaculate. I think again the unfortunate side to farming is its not a 1 man job, and all of the regulations and safety protocols make your job harder and may take twice as long. But thats the nature of the beast, rules are written in blood.
anyways just my two cents. Wish you the best in future!

Well I’m not a farmer but I’m going to say it “That’s Bloody Ridiculous !” Even I can see why you’re angry .
Once the decision was made without consulting the farmers it’s going to effect it sounds like it’s set in stone . Anything you say is just going to fall on the deaf ears of people who don’t have the knowledge of the risks.
I hope everything goes okay .

Dealing with the government bureaucracy is like banging your head against the wall. It feels so good when you stop. Hope you find out what has been causing problems with fertility in your heifers.

Really 😡😡😡 annoying Adrian you have the best interest of the animals at heart no farmers want to put animals in the crush more times than they have to especially when there heavily in calf the department a law to themselves

    • @IFarmWeFarm

It’s no fully the departments fault, I found out a lot since and so of the blame actually rests with the IFA not imposing a chance in how imports are tested
