This is my second time seeing a tour of his apartment and I am just as in love. It's refreshing because it's not the typical modern minimalist space but it's still calm. And he's not afraid of romance! He gives it an edge with the modern pieces to accent but the antiques and elaborate details just give it a soul that a lot of spaces lack.
Hey Medora. Enjoyed this one, thanks! I like your tangents, & especially when you talk of making a sense of home within yourself, really good counterpoint to my sometimes feeling that my space isn't 'good enough.' X
I think the most interesting thing about Damon's apt. is that he's breaking the rules and not doing what's expected. Having the couch and desk face away from the fireplace flies in the face of most designers who would use the fp as a focal point. Using the shelving as storage for extra seating is totally cool and functional as well as surprising. Additionally, the use of small rugs, especially in front of the sofa, is a "design no no" that works extremely well in the space. Despite it's small size, Damon's apt. feels spacious and airy because he's left enough space between items. Medora, thanks for sharing.
"Salon" isn't a fancy name, it just means "living room" (there isn't really a simpler way to say it x)) Also, first time I hear someone say "don't go watch my video". You made me laugh so hard! Also, I think by law the mezzanines cannot be considered as bedrooms (a bedroom as to be at least 9m² and 2.20m from ground to ceiling) so, although it's a pretty big apartment for Paris, it legally cannot be considered as a 2 bedroom
yeah the architecture is great but the clusterfuck of stools in the living room/office is just clutter. Couple that with lots of cheap crappy items on the shelves and that whole shelf is looking really weirdly empty and unappealing. It's actually sad cause there is so much potential tot he space which damon isn't really doing much with. Place looks better than most just because they paid for such a good space to begin with and the clever bits about the apartment arent even made by him but the landlord. That tiny carpet under the sofa bothers me too.
