BEST HOME DIY EVER?? huge, thrifted, high-impact art tutorial for free(ish)
Thanks so much for mentioning that English style isn't the only classic style. There is one design UA-camr I love but if I hear another ode to British style being the end all be all and they never explore another culture it's going to be frustrating. There are beautiful designs all over the world but for some reason it's like if everything doesn't nod to British, Japanese, or Scandi it's not cool. I've been consciously trying to make an effort to mix in various cultural references in my own home. For instance I recently purchased some Nigerian horn and stone vessels and it has definitely mixed up the vibe.
yes, exactly! there’s a lot to love about british style, but “traditional” shouldn’t be synonymous with the colonization of the entire world. there are so many beautiful cultures & traditions out there. and those vessels sound stunning!
Maybe in the future you could design a chair with balls and then get a local woodworker to make it. Not like a dupe or anything, more of a collaboration!
i love this idea! definitely putting it on the bucket list ✨
Cool Pinterest board! Love your style ❤😊
thank you ✨
You are so on point! I am with you on the bedspread coming back! I get the fluffy cloud duvet thing but I'm kind of over it and want to go with a sophisticated Art Deco bed vibe. I also don't need all of my pillows exposed. I want to get an ivory maybe pleated/ribbed bedspread and then have dark sheets and pillowcases underneath. So I get that calm neutral feel but then have a surprise pop of color (also tired of keeping the white linens that are close to my body spot free). Good bedspreads are hard to find so if anyone has a source please, please, please share.
i love that idea and that’s basically my setup right now too with dark green sheets underneath. i’m so over white sheets getting all gross, even when i literally wash them every week. i’m on a thrift store budget atm so i haven’t been in the market for a bedspread, but i’ll keep an eye out for companies with interesting designs, reasonable prices, and good quality & ethics 👍
poland mentioned! i think elements connecting you to your heritage should be their own design yum category! i'm on a look out to thrift a vintage shoe cabinet to store slippers for guests. i wanna go back to the custom of always having a pair of kapcie for everyone who visits, just like my grandma does haha sending you lots of love! i hope everything turns out well <3
i love that idea! that sounds like such a beautiful tradition 💕
Hi there. I adore your content and sent you some "coffee". Hope things are looking up.
PS. I'm turning my dining room into a library. I downloaded a random portrait of a girl and her cat and put it in my bathroom. Great ideas.
appreciate you so much ✨💕 and send me a picture of the library when it’s done, i’d love to see it!
Sending all the love from North Carolina ❤ I just found a really cool chalk profile portrait ( 1960s) of a younger man who's kind of mod looking and I'm OBSESSED with it!
thank you 🥰 and that sounds incredible!
Love the portrait of a rando idea, already have implemented it in my living room. Also loved the hidden intention tip, adds a very intimate, personal dimension to your design!
great minds think alike 💪
Love this video and all your videos ❤ sending a hug and i hope you get all the support you need!
thank you 💕
Love your videos ❤ Greetings from Poland!
hey poland 🫶
Hair looking stunning as always, dear. Thank you for letting us know ways we can support! Sending you virtual hugs! 💜
thank you 🥰
which would you add to your home?? ✨
instant subscribe!!! holy shit your aesthetic is so perfect. hard agree with everything on your list. i'm currently looking for a cool vintage metal cabinet to use in my entryway for shoe storage 🤞🤞🤞
thanks friend! sending good vibes for that vintage metal cabinet 🤞
Pinterest and chill is such a great format! Love your videos and design taste
oh and my Pinterest always freezes when I zoom in. Every. Time.
okay good, it’s not just me lol. and thank you! i think i’ll do more of these in the future ✨
My pinterest always freezes. Also I don’t like the update that highlights all the objects in the picture you click on. Love it though.
hmm, strange. and absolutely, i’m not a fan of the dots / links on the objects. like i’m not there to buy things, pinterest, i’m there live vicariously through people who have a reasonable amount of disposable income 😅
Very good Inso pics! I get frustrated by navigating Pinterest, but you're making me think I might try again. Also obsessed with big chunky furniture and am having to diy my own built in wall system/credenza (my main Facebook Marketplace search term) dt not living somewhere that I can even find stuff like that. The top is going to be travertine tile, laid end to end! I hope it works. I really like your videos and have watched most of them in the couple weeks or so I've been subscribed! The PNW is a place where the natural beauty and a combination of modernist, ranch, Japanese influences has produced a decent amount of good style. The best of it is very Sunset magazine from the 60s and 70s.
oh my gosh, PLEASE dm me a picture when you’re done!! that sounds incredible 💪 and thank you ☺️ glad you’ve been enjoying my videos ✨👌
Oh, I love these types of videos where designers show us their own inspo and why certain pictures appeal to them specifically! But sidenote, I’m pretty sure that photo from your home inspo board that has the all-leather seating and the massive windows is AI-generated :/
glad you loved it ✨ and thanks for the insight! ai is getting scarily good lol 🫠 i think it’s still worth it to critique and / or find inspiration from, because ai is only creating from images that have already been created, and design is such a creative field that there’s things to learn everywhere
Nice curated list, I love hearing about why you selected each picture.
thank you ✨
Loved hearing these judgements, hot takes all round. Would definitely be interested to hear where the more colourful design styles would fit (e.g. geometric, pastel princess, pop art, etc.)
will do! i put them on the list 👍
I could listen to u rattle off character judgements based on our design choices for hours 🤣 you read my boho ass for dirt omg. Tho i AM doing the mental work to both heal my inner child and to avoid the too many woven baskets cliche ahaha, progress!!!
lol 😂 glad you liked it! that inner child work is where it’s at though 👌✨
omg this was such a funny vid!! cottage core take was so true aaaahhhh, like been there done that, and then i thought that im a man and leaned to industrial and finally i went to therapy and found somewhat my own style based mostly on authentic mid century
glad you liked it 🥰 the way that figuring out your design style intersects so perfectly with personal growth is fascinating to me
Mid century modern isn't my interior design style, but I'd like to hear something about it!^.^ Some of the people who like this style want to appear "grown up" :D My thoughts...
ooh, that definitely gets me thinking…. i added it to my list!
@@anticapitalisthomedesign Great! :D
Hee hee hee.... Luv this one!!!!
glad you liked it ✌️
You said it’s for fun…but this is more telling than 1000 hours of therapy! I think you’re onto something 💖
mostly i just don’t want people to get too mad at me in the comments if i said something they weren’t ready to hear lol 😅
Im cottagecore and am DEF reclaiming femininity. I work in construction so I spend most of my life being around men and hyper masculinity-I absolutely NEED a quaint little haven from all of that LOL
ew lol 😝 i’m glad you’re making yourself a safe haven!
Femininiminity💅🏻
minimalist scandi???
My house is mostly decorated in space age style. I would like you to include me in part two please! 😃 I am all for some free, interior design based psychoanalysis!
will do 👍 i added it to my list!
farm house, we are so sorry but ALSO we’re especially coming for you! 😂
i had to 🤣
if your design style wasn’t included, let me know so i can make a part two!
BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS
books books books books books
love your videos! binged them all! the images are changing a little too fast for me on this one, but that might work well for others.
thank you ✨ and noted! someone else mentioned that too, so i’ll work on keeping images up a little longer
I just adore you and your insight. Definitely one of my favorite creators.
thank you 🥰 that means so much!
Medora, thanks so much for your content!! I'm a really young queer flat owner from moscow and i'm planing on renovating and designing this place for myself after living with my parents in a pretty "millenial grey" apartment. And your content really helps me have a better understanding of what i want from my future home <з
you’re welcome! i’m glad my videos have been helpful ✨ if you ever want personalized help with your flat, i’m going to start reviewing subscribers homes soon, whether it’s just advice or a whole virtual makeover, so if you want to be part of that, email me photos / videos / dimensions / budget / any other relevant information at medorakeadesign@gmail.com!
for me - art, books, music, plants, secondhand furniture; a tidy intentional space xo
i definitely second all of these 👌
Another lovely video! ❤
thank you ☺️
PETS!!! 💘🐶🐈⬛️💘
i’ll second that ✨
Hi Medora from Sydney, Australia. Love your channel ❤.
hey australia ✌️ thank you!
Great inspo! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina 😊
greetings + thank you!
Loved this video.. nice examples!
thank you thank you ☺️
Warm lighting, blankets, a cozy candle, my plants, quietness, peace & music!!!! Also touches of family photos
i love all of those ✨
I think that for me it’s utility, I’ve always like to think about the flow of my daily life, and where certain piece of furniture would make the most sense, especially since I live in a tiny space and I don’t have the space to dedicate a different area to each of my home activities. For exemple my dinner table is also extra prep space for my kitchen, my office and where I do a lot of my hobbies (painting, sewing, video game on my computer). I also think about it when I buy furniture, like my kitchen chair are foldable because most of the time it’s only me and it’s freeing up some space for other things. The fact that I can access everything that I could need for where I would normally do the activity make my space feel custom to me, and therefore like home. Hope that makes sense. Love you’re channel by the way, wish you the best ☀️
i love that perspective! making your space work for you functionally is a perfect way to make it feel like home 👌
Been watching from my THOW in Australia and loving your content. Decided to comment for the first time just to say I'm sorry for the loss of your friend in what was (probably) exceptionally hard circumstances ❤
thank you, friend 💕 how are you liking tiny life?
My golden retriever and labradoodle make our house a home. They are also my chaos to calm balance, they stop my home from looking too contrived. Please medora, always tangent, it's the cherry on top for me~
will do 👍 thanks for sharing about your precious puppers!
I luv your honesty and truth. These are so important during this particular time. Plus, your design acumen is spot-on. Great video ❤
thanks for the insights ☺️ those are definitely values of mine
Love your channel… i believe this channel will blow up. Appreciate the content
thanks for the confidence ✨
what makes YOUR home feel more like home? ✨
I’ve been watching videos about shikibutons recently- funny that you mentioned them in this video!
i love synchronicities 👍
Ok look, I love almost all of these and I get it, BUT. Hear me out. N.45 (only medium or high pile carpets in living rooms and bedrooms) is an absolutely not for me because I have pets and I am NOT cleaning those rugs constantly. They would look horrible even if I was. Also I wear slippers all year long so I don't mind the low pile nearly as much. Everyonbe coming into my home wears slippers too. I'll provide them if guests don't have/bring any, both for hygene and for safety reasons as I get critters inside fairly often, including scorpions, and no one wants to put their naked foot on one of those.
totally valid 👍 i love the reasoning & intention behind your decision
This is great, but as other's have mentioned, you really need a rasterized software for this, if you don't want to keep feeding adobe something like Afinity Designer is great. Although if you have Illustrator chances are you already have Photoshop. Just take the time and watch a couple of tutorials on it, you just need the basic. I think you could easily save a great deal of time with it as supposed to Illustrator
yeah i’ve got photoshop, i just don’t like it and i’m stubborn, so i avoid it at all costs. although i imagine if i actually learned how to use it, i might like it better lol 😅
