The only other time I have seen anyone who looks like Eugenia, it was images of concentration camp victims. To say she is thin is an absurd understatement. I'm amazed her body is still going.
My best friend was diagnosed with Anorexia around the age of 20 and passed away at 40 looking as emaciated as Eugenia. Our bodies are so resilient but only for so long.
I’ve known women who were anorexic and never this bad and they were losing their hair in huge clumps. She’s got to be wearing a wig. It’s been my experience that anorexia goes along with other mental disorders. I don’t foresee her dying from natural causes at this rate.
That’s not how AN works. An end stage Anorexia is when the disease has been present for 5-10 years. After 9 years of AN, only 1/3 of patients recover. She’s in the end stages of the disease, and her death is a fait accompli. Anorexia doesn’t mean that you drop dead in a week or two; it’s a progressive mental/physical disease that is many years in the making.
Me too! She looks like a walking skeleton. I find it odd that her family and even the police are willing to turn a blind eye to it. Just like Karen Carpenter...her heart will eventually give out.
Each year I wonder if this is the year she doesn't make it. I'm afraid that if she makes it to the end of this year, next year will, sadly, be her last. There's no way her body can hold out any longer. 😢
@@KimberlyLetsGo She has lost so much weight even recently. Her face doesn't even have flesh, it's like a skull. I don't see how she can go on much longer. I wonder if a doctor has told her that she's deteriorated to the point that refeeding is going to be dangerous and possibly will not work. So she decided to enjoy what time she has left. The whole visiting Jeffree Star seems like a make a wish or something.
Many years ago I knew a young woman, a veterinarian who owned her own practice. She suffered from anorexia and bulemia. She was smart, a professional and loved by her family, a family that had struggled to help her. She experienced multiple crises, each of which left her mid-30’s body ever more depleted. She was one of those women when shown a photo of her within in a group, she couldn’t identify herself in any photo - she saw herself as fat, regardless of just how cadaverous she actually was. A matter of months later she was dead due to organ failure. Until the individual wholly accepts a reality reflective of her/his actual health state, this is one psychological problem that is almost impossible to overcome.
@@mariahspapaya Anorexics don't lose weight to look appealling or alluring. It's a mental illness with deep roots & the physical symptoms are just that, symptoms. Like with cutting for example. Nobody thinks people do it because they like the way the scars look, do they?
You should do an episode on her mother - who is her enabler. She’s almost 30 and could afford to leave home and be on her own but it seems she is stuck being a child.
@@911dips5 Well, someone at home had to see this happening from childhood on, and done nothing - if anything, encouraging it. I'm surprised Social Services weren't called in and had her taken away!
Her mom said "I know she eats she's fine!" It's insane. I can't imagine what would get a mother to say that. Either total denisl combined with extreme ignorance or... she likes the thinspo money.
As someone who struggled with anorexia for 30 yrs. Lots of relapses. Eugenia does promote it. Blue butterflies are sign of pro anorexia movement. She uses them and says she just likes them. She has young girls list their BMI in every post. It's a bad situation. Anorexia as a lifestyle has tons of support. I wish I had the answers. I am a grandma and still bodycheck and am still obsessed. On disability from spinal damage from overexercise. Eugenia is dangerous.
That is very interesting, on the blue butterflies. Very good to know for the future. And it means she is using "code words" only a certain community will understand; this makes her case more concerning, as it makes it more certain she is doing these things on purpose.
Thank you for this. I've seen that she promotes it, she just does it very slyly, and I hate that she's getting away with it. I feel bad for kids and anyone struggling with it that gets recommended her videos. I wish she was at least age restricted, especially with all the intentional flashing.
I know a woman who has had this for over 20 years. Had to have her heart restarted in the E.R., had her rights taken away as an adult and was hospitalized numerous times. The last time I saw her, she was just 56 lbs (she's in her 40's and weighs less than my 9 year old). There's no reason she should still be alive, but she is. It's heartbreaking to watch.
As a registered dietitian it is safe to assume that she qualifies for the diagnosis of malnutrition. Furthermore, in a culture that is already obsessed with body image, she is a terrible influence for teenagers. Thank you for the review Dr. Grande.❤
To be fair, she doesn't encourage anyone to do what she does (she actually pretends like there's no issue) and I highly doubt any teenager is looking at her, reading her comments, etc and feeling pressured to get thinner. If anything, she's actively showing people what happens when a disorder like that goes unchecked.
@@Dietconsulting I think it may be a bit different in her case because she's universally slammed, from people calling her a bad person for even existing on the internet to people shouting at her from every possible angle to seek help, though both are only doing it for their own gratification imo. It's less like a 15 year old looking at a model who's a bit too thin or an already thin celebrity pushing a new diet, where they get praise for behaviors that are ultimately harmful, if not for them than for normal teenage girls who suddenly feel inadequate in comparison to them. If UA-cam still had dislikes she'd be decimated, vs someone like Grimes for example that's viewed as quirky or interesting because she eats nothing but spaghetti for a year, risking her health and well-being and making it seem like a fun thing to do and getting praised for it or alongside it.
@@AbadonBIack I'm gonna be honest, if they see her as a celebrity, all the criticism she gets goes out of the window. Remember that SSSniperWolf is a literal criminal and a scrub and yet is considered "the face of girl game streaming". In conclusion, I'd strongly advice to keep mentally unstable celebrities as far as possible from teen girls in particular. My ideal solution would by if she went the Nikocado way and showed signs of improvement to her audience, otherwise too bad, the cultural landscape won't really miss her.
The weirdest thing about this to me is the police officer who said she’s “always been thin” and likes chicken sandwiches. As if there’s no problem here. Also what a weird thing for a police officer to say. Maybe she’s surrounded by enablers like this.
Dr. Grande could you analize Eugenia's mother role on this situation? She has appeared many times on her videos and continues reassuring that she is doing ALRIGHT, that SHE KNOWS how to take care of herself. On the other side, she goes everywhere with her, even when Eugenia visit friends, and some people say she's controlling and profiting from Eugenia's eating disorder. I'm sure there are many parents like her and would be interesting to analise this kind of family dynamic.
Her mother is in denial, she cannot accept the guilt of acknowledging she neglected her child throughout her upbringing. So she refuses to see the truth, which is why Eugenia consistently tests and challenges her mother by making the public speculate on her weight.
@@traceyarnaud8433 Sadly, there are a lot of toxic parents out there. Even if she's in denial, I don't think that's an excuse for letting your child die.
I’ve struggled with anorexia and bulimia for almost 8 years now. TBH, if I was Eugenia and getting all this attention because of my ED I would love it. It’s sick but true. It would just enable me.
I completely agree, the comments and concerns are fuel to a person with an ED. Years ago I struggled with bulimia too, I was somewhat forced into getting help before I was too deep basically due to the feeling of guilt, but comments on my weight enabled me as well. Body checking was a big part of the disorder, measuring myself, trying on my clothes regularly to see if they were looser, the satisfaction of fitting into my mom’s old size 2 clothes was like some sort of milestone because I would hear her brag about when she was at her thinnest she was a size two (she was treated for anorexia when I was very young), she was also 5’0 tall and I am 5’7” so I felt like I surpassed her and was better than her. If you can’t guess she was a big source of my eating disorder, she made a lot of comments on what I’d eat. I’m sure Eugenia’s is big source for hers as well. Her videos are also just a bunch of body checking, everything she does is fuel to her disorder. I don’t watch her content, I do occasionally watch commentary about her hoping one day I hear she’s getting help. People say to stop watching her videos, and I do think that might be a wake up call for her, it’s not a solution. She’ll still get that fuel to keep going from her mother or others in her community. It doesn’t take much to enable her disorder. Negative comments like “you’re too skinny”, “you need to eat” etc are proof to her that what’s she’s doing is working in her mind. She’s the one that ultimately has to make the decision to get help and I don’t think that’s going to happen, but I hope she proves me wrong.
I’m sorry to hear about your struggle & sending love for your recovery. Thank you for speaking out. My experience is in the caretaker role of someone who did recover. Anyone who knows the illness is aware it’s different for everyone, but her situation is now terminal. No one wants to say it, but this is what it is.
I've had anorexia for 13 years, at my lowest I've weighed 35 kilos at 160 cm. When I was sick I didn't realize that I looked awful and sadness-inducing. Later, when I saw the photos I gasped. I have also been bullied at school and at home by my father. At some point I just started recovering. I guess after all those years I gained distance from the trauma and got better mentally. Art helped me personally a lot. Seeing anorectics still hurts me a lot, but no, it doesn't make me want to relapse. I've reached normal weight, got my cycle back and now growing a baby boy 🤰
Congratulations on both your recovery and baby boy arriving soon! You must be a really strong person to get thru that. That is a very difficult illness to recover from.
Psssst...it CAN come back AFTER birthing...as a fellow, who went through it...I'm thrilled for you! Please just be aware it RE-FLARES post-birth for alot of us. ❤❤❤❤❤
@@echoglher mother lives with her so she is very much relevant to this issue. Also, your children being "adult" doesn't void your responsibility as a parent to your unwell child.
@@Fazerella I'm just guessing and giving her mother the benefit of the doubt, but maybe her mom knows she doesn't have long so she plays along. and or maybe Eugenia herself is threatening her mother in some weird way.
If you don't know, her mother has been on video with her saying she's fine. Because of her condition, many caIIed about her and her mother moved the famiIy from NE to Texas, in the Houston area I beIieve to escape the scrutiny. Her mother toId Eugenia that if she Ieaves her to get heIp, her mother wiII have a heart attack and die. Obviously there are huge red flags with her mother who is 4 or more times her size. The doors are kept tightly locked and her mother aIways answers it. She may be 30 but she's far from an independent aduIt. So no, her mother doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt. Not at all. This has been going on for 10 yrs or more.
im sure they benefit some how from her earnings over the years however her family is already well off. they live in a muli million dollar home her dad is really the sole bread winner her mom hasnt worked since her kids were born.
I believe her mother is in denial because she cannot accept the guilt of the neglect she imposed on her daughter. Her mother is mentally ill and is unwilling to acknowledge reality.
Her mother plays a major role in supporting her social media and is the one behind the camera most of the time. It’s incredibly concerning and hasn’t gotten any better over the years, simply continues to spiral.
I'm really surprised Eugenia Cooney is still allowed to be on UA-cam considering how strict the terms of service are now especially related to 'shocking content'. Just the mental health aspects going on is also extremely worrying. What I don't understand is why her content is often pushed up and featured on my homepage at times. UA-cam normally stamp out producers who have a negative effect and shocking content, yet Eugenia Cooney is untouched by the incredible systems that are set to 'protect' the audience and producers.
@@TremblingQualifierI literally never watch her videos and I always tell YT that “do not show me this” and I have reported her videos before. Yet without fail, they still pop up in my feed eventually. Hmmmm
I’m also surprised she is alive and that her heart is still functioning. She’s lost so much muscle and it’s bound to affect her heart. I’m 80 and I remember in the ‘70s when the world sadly watched the multi-talented, lovely singer Karen Carpenter-who even Elton John and Paul McCartney were quoted as saying had one of the most beautiful female voices in the world-waste away and become thinner and thinner in just a few years because of anorexia. Neither her friends nor her brother, Richard Carpenter, who was the other half of their famous singing duo, “The Carpenters,” could save her from starving herself to death from the Eating Disorder, and her heart gave out and just stopped beating and she died in 1983 at age 32. It was quite sad. This woman appears to be even thinner than Karen was at her death.
I think she was at a healthy weight when she died. The damage was already done to her body. That's the thing, they can recover mentally and emotionally, but may die anyway because some damage physically remains. Very sad.
Thank you for addressing how she's very deliberate about her titles. People tend to baby her and act as if she's completely innocent and unaware of the affect she's had on people. But it's very clear that she knows exactly what to do to get people to talk. It's right in front of our faces. She is sick, but that doesn't excuse all the troublesome things she's done over the years. She's going to pass away without ever taking accountability.
Exactly. She’s not as innocent as she likes to portray. She has first hand knowledge of the damage she does online. Her discord was full of underaged girls who were helping each other lose weight in order to look like her. Her own moderators were giving out diet advice. Plus some of them were predatory and harassing the young girls in the community. When people complained to Eugenia she pretty much said that she wouldn’t do anything about it. She said that the predator was nice to her so she didn’t see a reason to ban them. Only when she got enough public backlash did she even ban the creeps in her discord. A lot of people believe that these people who fetishize ED are paying her and the person harassing these girls was one of her biggest supporters. That’s why she didn’t want to get rid of them. Honestly I could believe it because she’s so willing to troll her audience and those who show concern. Her titles and her videos that she constantly body checks in are evidence enough. Not to mention all the “accidental” flashing. She’s a 29 year old women. Though she acts like she’s naive, we all know that’s not the case. Her old videos were much more vulgar and offensive. She only started this innocent act when people really started coming after her for promoting ED. I understand it is a complicated situation, especially with her mother. However she shouldn’t be treated like a baby when she’s definitely not as ignorant as she likes to behave. The mom pulls the same innocent act. I’m sure that’s were she learned it. The mom showed her true colors to Jaclyn Glenn and Eugenia’s old friend group when they had the intervention. She was screaming at them, cursed them out and tried to get them arrested on kidnapping charges. Not only that but she told Eugenia to run away from the police and mental health professionals. Clearly the mom has the ultimate say over Eugenia’s day to day life. I’m guessing the only control Eugenia has is her ED and her online presence. Maybe that’s why she acts out online. It doesn’t excuse her behavior but it sure would explain a lot.
She gets paid by men that have sexual fetishes by idk crossing her legs or bending over or lifting heavy boxes. They talk to her in code while she’s streaming when she’s doing what they want and you can see them send money to her This isn’t a conspiracy theory. You can see it and people can show you. If you don’t see it. It’s so odd. I didn’t know that was allowed. Onky fans may be a better place to be.
Another thing that is so concerning is her relationships in her family her mother and brother don’t work so she is supporting them they are also overweight no I wouldn’t say they are terribly unhealthy in danger. But I fear she sees them and it gives her another reason to not gain weight. To her. They are everything she can’t stand. But the real sore spot is that she had no family to help her make the right decisions. The moment she gets healthy. She looses subs. She just doesn’t have any talents that can get millions of people to be interested in her. And her family knows this. So anyone that tries to help her is going to be torn down by not only her but her family as well. Now that is maddening. To choose money over your siblings, daughters life. Needs to be against the law. Putting people in danger that may cause her death.
In 1992 I worked at a frozen yogurt store. We had nonfat sugar free yogurt..it was shocking the girls who would eat that only. One young girl died who came in twice a day eating that, and sometimes would vomit before eating in our bathroom. I still think of her after all these years and what she missed out on in life..its such a cruel disorder and if Eugene doesnt get help soon she will have the same outcome
At a minumum I wish Eugenia was told that she must age restrict her videos to 18+ yrs of age or older to view. This won't prevent all young children/teens from viewing her videos however it would change the algorithm for pushing out her content to young viewers.
I agree. Who gets to be the arbitror of what’s acceptable self ab*se to post? UA-cam, I guess. Does that mean if a person wants to cut, or smoke m*th, or sh*t hero*n or a host of other things to self destruct, that it should be able to be accessed by anyone under a certain age group? I’m all for freedom of speech and all, I just wonder if by the opinion that this is a mental illness, I’m mean, come on, the woman is skeletal, that it’s then hard to deny any one the right to post anything on UA-cam that might be considered harmful in that similar vein. Do you think anyone would really want that? Slippery slope. 😬
@kisaragistation5220 are you serious? You want me to make a list of the numerous "fat influencers" who proudly boast about their excessive daily calorie intake, go on rants about how disappointing it us when other obese people have the ordacity to lose weight and protest that science and doctors are wrong about the negative impacts being g obese has on one's health? Let me guess....that's not happening? 😅
Calling that body "skinny" is a huge euphemism. It is simply amazing to see how a skeleton can walk and move by itself. Just the idea that someone can find that image of death attractive is mind-blowing.
@@LaciRae That really says it all, doesn't it? And she's permitted to stay online to mislead others into this same misrepresentation of what a human female body should look like? What a disservice to society! There have to be some limits!

I was hospitalized for anorexia when I was 15. I was 5’6, 79 pounds. My heart rate was in the teens and I could barely stand. I’m shocked that she is alive and able to live a seemingly “normal” life. I genuinely had no energy and she looks more unhealthy than I did. I wish her nothing but the best and hope she finds a way out of this.
when I suffered from anorexia, i'm 5'5 and got just below 100 lbs before i was forced into treatment...i was always in the hospital for potassium deficiency, i cannot help but think she has permanently damaged her body...just when i think she can't get any skinnier she somehow does....and i know it's really not about being skinny. To me food was poison and i felt clean and pure without it, i hated food, it was an enemy. Telling someone they're too skinny is a compliment when you have an eating disorder such as anorexia,. I didn't get my period for 5 years, i feel really bad...she shouldnt have subs. She needs to be sectioned
I struggle to keep my weight up, digestive issues, not eating disorders, and when my weight starts to dip into under 20 BMI, still within the normal range, and I feel it. Tiredness, foggy, general malaise, etc... Once I'm able to gain a few pounds, I'm a completely different person. I have no idea how she has energy to stand.
cuz you can’t just cure something someone doesn’t want to treat, just like anything else. she’s not literally trying to kill herself with violence so hospitals can’t prove anything. this is her own doing, and she’s the only one who can undo it. not her fault but her responsibility
Yeah, to be honest, it's a bad read of the situation. She's a grown adult. She can make her own decisions at this point. It's not on anyone else to change her or fix things. It's all on her.
Well we can see from the rapid response to Dr Grandes video here how interested people are in hearing a certified professional's opinion on Eugenia. Thank you for doing this video Dr Grande.
@oneluckygirlandherdog Agreed. For years I’ve been deeply alarmed by the influence Eugenia’s reach may be having on young minds, especially those vulnerable to EDs. But listening to Dr. Grande, this was the first time I’ve considered another side. As horrifying and unwanted as it would be, if this disease ultimately does take her life, the problem of anorexia and the legitimate risk it poses to life will perhaps be more broadly recognized and understood by millions of young viewers and fans. Death is an abstract until it becomes a known quantity. I have to hope that’s some kind of silver lining.
Isnt that on UA-cam? The way in 2016 it was pushing vidoes of children to anyone who searched “bikini haul.” UA-cam used to show you content based on vicinity but those kids had a lot of foreign men time stamping in the comments with ❤❤❤❤
In 1989 I had an awesome best friend Vicky that had this same eating disorder. She was the first person to hold my Son when he was born that year. She passed away a couple months later due to cardiac arrest. This was caused because she didn’t eat enough. It crushed me! She was my Son’s Godmother and a wonderful person. I hope Eugenia gets help before it is too late.
My late husband was a psychiatrist starting in the 1980s. He had excellent results in those days. Patients lived in hospitals, went to school there, sometime for 2 or 3 years. That's when insurers stopped it. They were losing money. They started imposing lifetime caps on treatment. Outcomes are worse now.
If I had an opportunity to stay in the hospital for a year or 2 I would have 100% recovered. But anytime I got even remotely close to getting better. They kicked me out and said oh, you're good now. Yeah, right? I was not even close. I relapsed the day after I got home every time. I'm a really strong person but I didn't even have the option of a good transitional step downtown. It is so I went from street impatient too. Seeing an outpatient therapist once or twice a month, which was not nearly enough. I have little resources and not enough money for treatment. It's frustrating and many times I just throw my hands up and give in.
I wasn't alive in the 80s, but this doesn't surprise me at all. It's hard to find adequate treatment for most things as it is. And EDs are notoriously difficult to treat. It's so sad.
@@Taureanfitness I'm so sad to hear about these unfortunate things you had to go through. Please keep fighting, I'm so thankful you're still here. I wish you all the best in everything! ❤
And everyone seems to forget the main muscle in our bodies is the heart. She has displayed severe atrophy of all her visible muscles for a while now. Just hope the heart doesn't follow during a live stream.
I'm a student nurse and have worked as a CNA, so I've seen a lot of grisly things, from open bilateral leg amputations to unstageable pressure ulcers. Eugenia's illness gives me a visceral feeling of horror that I haven't experienced with anything else so far.
You should visit the eating disorder clinic in your hospital some day - I think you would meet a group of kind hearted, artistic and wonderfully caring people, although wounded and traumatized. People that deserve treatment for their life threatening disorder. I know this because I was one of those people. It's horrifying. Eugenia is suffering immensely and deeply. It baffles me why people can't see this.
I’m a home health aide. I’ve worked with a lot of elderly ladies who suffer from eating disorders. From binging to restricting. It’s really hard to have a changing body as we age.
My 14 year old granddaughter was following her and lost a large amount of weight. She would refuse to tell us her weight or get on a scale. Eventually, she came to her senses and is at a healthy weight. That girl is dangerous IMO.
So many people of all ages watch her or at least know about her, but know it's unhealthy and don't fall into an ED spiral. Eugenia doesn't have that power to influence healthy folks into looking like her. It's vital to pinpoint the reason(s) your granddaughter (people in general) fell into it and address them. Was she bullied? Is her home unstable? Fights at home? Issues at home? Are the parents not having talks with her? Are they too busy working/stressed to talk to their kids and just have one on one time? Is she depressed? Anxious, ocd? Is she sad the guy she likes is into thin girls idk, Whatever, etc. It's very young people going through something mentally that get sucked into an unhealthy spiral and actually seek other unhealthy people. Similarity breeds liking. So people, be present in your children's lives.
She has often been asked to age-restrict her videos, which would at least keep children from consuming her content, but she refuses to do so. This gives me the impression that she cares immensely for the money her very young audience brings in. Personally, I find that irresponsible, greedy and completely selfish.
I am one of the people who requested, politely, that she begins a fans only channel. She could have a regular channel and another fans only to do different things to please those who subscribe.
Glad you covered this story. The fact she's nearly 30 makes it more disturbing. Surprised you didnt bring up her arrested development and any theories you may have on why an adult woman wants to look, including dress, act and sound like an adolescent or teen and even a child, such as some kind of trauma. That is how she is connecting with that age group. She is playing dumb by acting like she doesn't know how she could influence them when she knows that she is acting like their age! So of course, when they watch her, they're not seeing a nearly thirty year old woman. They are seeing someone like themselves or their friends. At this point she can wear toddler clothes. My daughter was treated for an eating disorder. And at the hospital, we had family group therapy with all the parents, and kids and one exercise was to list bad influences and she was listed along with Thinspo and anorexic models and actresses as an influence, making them feel like they had to be that thin to be attractive. She may not outwardly try to encourage people to do that. But she covertly does it by flaunting her body in those outfits, making teen, preteen maybe even younger girls feel fat if they can't wear clothes that small a size.
This obviously stems from trauma! Eugenia and company moved to another state after a friend of Eugenia got her in mandatory treatment. She was looking better. I saw a video where Eugenia talks about wanting a hamburger and saying her mom told her, You can eat at any ol time, you have work to do now. Her mom plays into this, she exposed her having her try on a bathing suit at the store in front of everyone. Yes, Eugenia is "old enough" to know better but trauma and I'm sure lack of nutrition play a part in her making healthy choices. Honestly I think her mom bloomed, bl=gr, her to be this way. She is her mom's cash cow. Also, anyone see that mom is constantly overweight!?
I was a teenager and ballet dancer in the late 90's, during the heroin chic thing. Magazines and models like Kate Moss ABSOLUTELY influenced me, I'm 39, so I've had anorexia or bulimia for about 27 years. (Wow ... I never did the math before.) I phase in and out of recovery. Right now I'm out. Obviously there are many things that cause an eating disorder but it wasn't hard to find media that encouraged me to keep at it.
If you have a look at Eugenia's earlier content was actually very charismatic and clearly had something that attracted people to follow her before she got infamous for her weight... She also could have been a professional makeup artist or fashion designer with her talent/skills, but unfortunately her illness took that away from her EDIT: re-reading this now I really do hope that she still has time to explore her creativity and talents further or at least finds peace... Probably away from the internet if I had to guess 🙏
Yikes. She’s extremely sick. You are asking someone who is mentally sick to act mentally sound because you think she somehow owes her viewers something. Her being talented or not has nothing to do with this. Look where all that talent got Karen Carpenter. Her mother always thought her brother was the great talent in the fam NO matter what she did.
Thank you for covering this case. My thoughts are with Eugenia and her family, and I hope she seeks help and can one day successfully recover from this deadly mental illness.
One of the few times I disagree with Dr Grande. She should NOT be allowed to post - it will affect her mental health negatively to get positive feedback about her current situation.
not to mention she is 100% glorifying and fetishizing eating disorders. there is no way she has not lead dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of her viewers down the same path.
As shocking and unnerving as it is to see anorexia on a screen, its utterly mind blowing when you see it in person. I've only seen it once, and it took my breath away. Who knows what's going on, but I wish her any kind of healing.
I lost 14 kgs in a year due to tuberculosis and I honestly couldn't recognise myself in the mirror and that frightened me so much. I spent the next year just recovering from everything my body had lost.
oh my gosh, I just commented the same thing- I honestly hadn't seen your post, but I've been in that situation too, it literally made me feel so sad. 🙏
Calling her skinny is a gross understatement. She is quite literally to the point of intentional, long-term starvation. There's also a fetish aspect to this where men pay her for certain videos. Also, people criticize the "obese" every day. To say the reaction would be different for a fat person is ridiculous. There's not a single fat person on the Internet that hasn't been harassed even if they're not in lifestyle/weight/body positivity/makeup space.
Thank you for speaking truth. I almost spit out my tea when Dr. Grande recited the reasons people support this very sick individual and it included, something like (and I'm paraphrasing), 'obese people don't get this kind of scrutiny'. This is both ridiculous and laughable. I've been in the mental health field 20 years and was an investigator for protective services before that. I've seen thousands of individuals suffering or made to suffer because of being 'obese.' ---- I can count on two hands the number of folks I've seen suffering or made to suffer because they were thin. It's just ignorence at it's finest, plus, hate and bigotry toward the 'obese' is (in)arguably the last acceptable prejudice a person can openly display with impunity.
I agree. I would consider myself 'skinny', but I am 96 lbs at 5' even. I believe I am technically underweight. That is much different than what she is. She's about half a foot taller than me, and I'm guessing at least 25 lbs lighter, probably more. I'm not good at discerning weight in anyone over my height for some reason lol. She has far surpassed skinny.
I don't agree with a lot of what he says here, but I don't think he was saying obese people don't receive criticism or discrimination, just that people generally don't try to deplatform obese people or accuse them of trying to influence others to be as large as they are
When she did that video with Shane, I really thought she was on the cusp of recovery. She was looking a lot healthier, more peaceful, reflective, and coherent. Devastated that she relapsed and has gotten far worse. I think the majority of people who still keep up with her channel are doing so out of morbid curiosity, waiting for that day.
I was super skeptical though. She skirted around the answers and her thoughts on the entire subject. I saw someone who had not admitted to her issues. She even has stated in previous videos that it was scripted and she was told what to say. So, it wasn't her own thoughts and feelings about her issue.
Have you seen the EC subreddit? It’s fucking vile, basically multiple fully formed humans drooling over her future death. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve got screenshots of one post where someone was talking about how excited they were to see her die. And they could t leave the subreddit incase they missed her death. 🤮
@@cheesechurger-tq3nz But even if it was "scripted" there's no denying how much healthier she looked in those videos. Her face had more meat. There was more calmness to her.
She didn't continue to pursue modeling because the modeling agencies wanted her to get rid of her social media presence and she wouldn't. There's also videos from her old Facebook account that indicate she was the bully, not the bullied.
As someone with an eating disorder, I absolutely hope she gets help. I’m in treatment right now and it’s probably one of the most important things I’ve ever done. Hopefully it’s not too late for her.
Eugenia isn't just very thin, she is emaciated. Many people admit that they check in on her to see how far gone she is. I admit I check in hoping she has made a little bit of recovery. Now, I'm just standing by waiting for the announcement that she has passed. She seems so sweet and for her to lose her life is a terrible loss. You didn't mention the manipulation that some feel that her mother is behind this. I wonder if the mother has Munchausen by Proxy disorder. I think her mother comes up with EC's titles to spur on interest. At this point, EC's health is past the stage from which she can recover. It's terrible that millions are helpless and can only watch a young woman kill herself slowly.
I think her mother has munchausen by proxy big time. To bad dr grande didn’t mention this. I think Eugenia is very sweet and that her mother encourages her ed. If she has so much views on social media, she gains a lot of money, or her mother keeps all that money as she still lives home and isn’t allowed to leave the house without her moms permission and her moms accompany
@@allaboutmedicationaidesI grew up with family members that were obese and while I won’t say it was the sole factor in my own development of an eating disorder, it certainly was *a* factor.
I initially started watching Eugenia because of her make-up tutorials. As a previous Goth from the 80s, I was interested in seeing how Goths of the 2000s were doing their make-up and comparing/contrasting it with how Goths of the 80s did theirs. She'd developed a gorgeous style with her eye makeup, and I found that compelling. However, I also had an ED in the 80s, and I could tell that she also had an ED. As she began wasting away before my eyes, I had to stop watching her. She didn't necessarily trigger me, but she did remind me of how I justified my weight loss back in those days and how I had affected friends and family around me who were worried about me. I check-in with her videos about once every three months or so now, to see if she is still alive. I know there is nothing that I say or anyone else says that will help her. You have to want to help yourself, and Eugenia is getting incentives to continue as she is doing by earning money from her disorder. As long as she has viewers and the money keeps rolling in, she will not seek help. It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion, and I cannot be a part of that anymore.
I agree with what you've said in regards to her right to post on social media, but I disagree about there being no negative impacts to her online presence. I suffered from Anorexia some years back and every comment I received played a role in my downward spiral. Her being in the public eye means she gets thousands and thousands of comments daily, good and bad that drive her further into the arms of her illness. "You look like you're dying" and "You are beautiful" to most people, mean two different things. To her, they both mean success. Her live streams mean she can avoid eating (or even drinking water) for several hours at a time because the illness can't let the viewers see she ingests anything and at the same time, get the validation in needs from the inevitable comments. I believe she knows what she is doing. People with eating disorders can be extremely manipulative. She openly talked about her disorder after her stay in treatment, then went right back to saying things like "I don't want help" and opening mocking people who express concern for her. On top of that, the videos of her dancing, like the Selena one, caused a huge uproar and what was her response? Do it again with less clothing. She got called out many times for flashing the camera and continued to do that as well. The constant attention she gets its absolutely impacting her. There is no question she is very, very ill and to some degree, her deteriorating cognitive functioning, combined with the evil voice of her ED is compelling her to push the boundaries even more but she was made well aware of her impacts on her viewers long before it got this bad and she refused to dial it back. Could removing her from social media make it worse? Possibly. However, allowing it continue is also making it worse. The only difference is her young fans and the rest of the world get to see it. It is truly heart breaking and at this point, I fear death is in her near future. To anyone who is still reading, take care of yourselves and if you feel you're heading down the same road as Eugenia, seek help. I know first hand that it's scary and extremely difficult but we only get one shot at life and living it in that kind of misery is simply not worth it.
For those concerned about her behavior and impact, I would recommend avoiding watching her videos and subscribing to her content. This is because other approaches seem unlikely to work. Even though it may be tempting to still watch her content to see what is going on and whether anything exciting or controversial will happen, this will further increase her popularity and may even be her intent--to draw more attention by being shocking. So if possible, try to avoid watching her videos out of interest after seeing this video.
I never seen her post or videos except from other creators that post and share their thoughts. I would never even look her up or watch one for that simple reason. Also from what I’ve seen she doesn’t really create any genuine content, just a lot of looking in the mirror or showing of clothes that maybe a 10 year old might try on. There’s no meaningful content she puts out. Not sure how she had that many followers except to watch the final moments, which is very disappointing
I agree. However, her short popped up on my homepage. I’m a 50 year old woman that watches Dr Grande and cat videos. I’ve never show an interest in this subject, or her at all but it’s worrying that UA-cam are promoting her content.
She seems like a middle school girl addicted to attention. It is heartbreaking to see this WOMAN stuck in this state and how she is seemingly so helpless to break the cycle she is stuck in....
Thank you for treating Eugenia as an actual human being rather than a walking disease that certain "creators" have chosen as a concept to have her canceled as they continue to make money off of her misfortunes. There are two women who I believe care an do treat her with concern and kindness but most of them start out feigning concern but then quickly turn to jokes about her looks, her family, her voice, her living quarters- anything one can think of. They call her out for being naive but guess what, she's on tiktok for God's sake. Its a personal. And that persona is putting lots of naive bux in her pocket. And the more people talk about her, the more exposure and money she gets . And I've said this several times- people love to use the excuse that she's doing this on purpose knowing young girls will want to be like her. Maybe 10 years ago but showing a 12 or 23 year old one of her dancing videos would be akin to showing kids a video of a homeless 30 year old meth addict and the kids saying "hey, yeah! That's for me!" 10 years ago she was a stunning young lady, dressed cool and hanging with friends. But at aged 30 she appears as a frightened, lonely, emaciated woman playing Miss Havesham in her pink room desperately trying to freeze time. Any adolescent wanting to emulate her should already be well into therapy. If she doesn't want to talk about e.ds, there are plenty on tiktok and you tube that adore talking and talking about every crumb they eat every hour of every day and hey, if it helps them, then I say great for them. Whatever works is awesome. But just imagine for a moment that someone you care about or respect comes to you in confidence to let you know she found out she has end stage lung cancer. She smoked for years disregarding all the medical warnings against it. Let's also imagine that she has a successful UA-cam channel making candles. Nothing deep or spiritually uplifting but she loves doing it. She never wanted the surgery or chemo/radiation. She is not married, has no children but she has a few good friends and her family that all wanted her to do everything she could to cure the cancer. They pressured until she caved She had the painful surgery and chemo that made her ill for over a year that chemo stopped. She went Into remission until just as she was feeling herself, she relapsed. She told no one and made the decision to not do any of the surgery, chemo, etc. She kept her channel going and announced that while she appreciated all the concern, she would not be talking about her illness online. She felt good, kept her candle channel and enjoyed 3 years of pain free life and passed quietly at home. Addictions have a much higher percentage of relapse than most anything. Maybe Eugenia is just tired of fighting such a losing battle and sick of people harping on it as if its the only quality she has. So please, just let her live how she sees fit the same way you would with a cancer patient. Being unkind never helps anything. Ever.
Well and her entire livelihood depends on her being so physically and mentally ill people watch. Her whole income is based off of her mental illness. She has huge monetary incentive not to get better.
This is absolutely terrifying as a mom. I wish she’d learn Karen Carpenter’s same struggle and plight dying in her early 30’s. Sadly I fear this isn’t going to end well. Being skinny and wasting away aren’t the same thing.
one aspect I think you've missed with Eugenia is that she also attracts fetishists and is very aware of this demographic as a streamer. She will constantly move around her room and pick up large objects like an empty box in the corner to consistently get donations. I don't watch her videos, wish her nothing but love and happiness, but she's very aware and constantly uses her camera to body check while streaming. She can live her life and this is how she's happy, as scary and concerning as it is for viewers. We can only hope that at some point if she decides she wants help that she accesses it. Otherwise blasting her content up is just supporting what people are so concerned for her about.
And she speaks and acts like a 14 yr old. She's in her 30s. The sexual dysfunction that she encourages is vile. Yet her desire to flaunt her body (outfits) on streams demonstrates her blatant intentions
Your last thoughts are very insightful! My mother was an alcoholic and killed herself in 2019 and this is very similar. As mentioned, like with substance abused, you’re just waiting for the inevitable to happen. You’ve tried to help, they don’t want it and so you either stay in their life or you don’t. It’s awful.
😢 i am so sorry u and Ur family had to go through this horrible experience. My mother also died due to alcohol abuse when she was 50. That was in 2005. There was nothing we could do cause she was an adult and could make her own choices. I don't Wish this on anyone.
I’ve seen people, before they die, waste away. It’s scary. This feels like a grotesque and unethical experiment. UA-cam shouldn’t allow her content rather than incentivize it.
I'm not sure how to make internet platforms liable for the hate they knowingly incite and profit off of. I've tried for decades. As long as we hate others, and it's making bank for the rich, why would the owners of our internet ever limit who can use the platform? People go to channels like hers, for the hate they are addicted to. Hating her disorder is still just hate. Look at her comments, it's a place we go to hate her disorder. It feels good to hate it, and we leaving comments feel obligated to say something to prevent harm. That need to help others is making some tech man very, very rich.
@@24CiViC Thank you so much for this comment. I've alerted YT to Kristan Hawkins, too. Known member of an identified group by the Southern Poverty Law Center, for years. Literally years. Watched the onision drama too. We're going to let hatred be the undoing of humanity and the "Elon Musks" are going to profit off of every second of it.
I believe she does what she does to test her mother. She wants to test whether she cares. She has major cognitive dissonance from what her mother tells her compared to what the world tells her. She struggles between accepting that her mom doesn't tell her the truth even if it kills her, or accepting that society is all out to get her. Her way of maintaining control is through increasing public speculation and FORCING her mother to acknowledge the giant logical hole.
I am of the same opinion. I believe this is intentionally done for views and obviously revenue. If she gets better her income would suffer unfortunately she is putting her life in danger for profits, so foolish.
As someone in “recovery” from a serious eating disorder, it makes me sad to see her going through this. She’s a grown woman who can choose her treatment. It’s so difficult to understand how this controls your mind unless you’ve been through this. She knows; but she’s not concerned. I put “recovery” in quotes, as it is true. Like any addiction or obsession… you have to manage it. You never beat it.
No one does understand until you either go through anorexia personally or you are involved with someone going through it. You are right that it controls you and it is almost an entity of its own with the anorexic so proud of being successful in not eating. Heartbreaking and exhausting to go through.
It’s heartbreaking to look at her. She is so sick. Being so severely anorexic is so dangerous. The worst part is hearing her own mother co-sign her disease. 😢
I’ve seen one video of her and her mother cooking a meal. Oh it’s just not enough!!! I would drag my child to a facility before a cooking episode for online watching.
@jiminiebliss well, I'd drag mine. Rules or not, to try prevent her death. At least I'd sleep at night after. And at least I know I tried to prevent her death. Even if everyone else thinks its OK. 'Oh there's rules, oh better let her be' BS. At least I'll sleep tonight. Did what I could.
@@jiminiebliss - I hear you there. My adult child refused to go last year up until she was unable to walk and unable to work. It’s a terrible disease. My kid is working so hard on recovering now! It takes a lot of effort every single day. I pray every day.
Eugenia engages in what’s known as body checking in the pro ana community. Wearing revealing clothing that shows a lot of the body and presenting it in ways that are likely to get more comments on her body. What supporters can hauls and modeling clothing is body checking. This was such a great and insightful analysis.
I'm 62 and still battle with an eating disorder. My eating disorder started in my late teens. It came from severe abuse. I also grew up with a mother with an eating disorder and severe judgment against weight gain. I have worked very hard not to be controlled by it. I have Lyme disease and Mast Cell activation. I am so committed to getting to remission that I work very, very hard on not starving myself. It really doesn't seem to ever completely disappear but my commitment to health is greater than the need to control through an eating disorder. I hope Eugenia gets help someday. I feel for her.
My heart breaks as a mother. I couldn’t see my son withering away like this. I pray for this poor girl, whatever internal suffering she may be suffering.
@@paulasoy2731because it’s gross to do this to her viewers. She’s blowing them off. She’s manipulative. Why they stick around to “try to help her” is beyond me. I won’t contribute to that train wreck so I avoid that channel.
There are little kids on Twitter who refer to themselves as "Thinspo" kids. They worship her and are starving themselves so they can look like her. I don't think she should be banned from social media, but she needs to at least age restrict her content. I don't want her to die. I also don't want little kids...or anyone else to die from wanting to look like her. I survived Bulimia and it tears my heart out to see her slowly commit suicide in front of millions of people. My husband and I believe her Mom has a case of Munchausen syndrome by proxy. She is the one always filming Eugenia in questionable outfits, and sometimes Eugenia can barely walk! But you can hear her Mom saying "Go." There's even a live stream where Eugenia wanted to go outside to see the moon and she asked her Mom for permission to do that. Her Mom said No- that she could see it from the window. Eugenia is almost 30 years old and she can't even go outside to look at the moon? There is just something off about her family. I wouldn't be surprised if she's almost like a hostage or something. Her family is already rich, but Eugenia does bring in a lot more money...I dunno. Just something way off about the entire situation.
I agree. This is 100% something going on and I’m fucking so done pretending this isn’t the truth. She and her family know how they are negatively impacting her audience. It’s disgusting.
My last inpatient AN admission was at 34. 7 years ago. Statistics are statistics, you can recover. Those with AN are determined. They can do anything. I never saw myself as thin. The angles I photographed myself at mirrored Eugenias. Sometimes I saw a flicker of it. However weight restored, I look in horror. I don’t look like ‘me’ I was disturbingly ugly. The problem was fear. Absolute terror of feeling things again. I was in a hospital which made you stable. I hit a certain BMI and could Think again. It was weird. I kept a social life, a job, the normal. But I was numbing huge pain that I’m still dealing with. I can however now Scuba dive, mountain climb, I worked through Covid. Recovery is possible after decades. But. Social development needs help.
Congratulations on your recovery and continued success; I cannot even imagine how hard the journey has been for you. Stay strong and know that we are also celebrating your success. ❤
I am sorry to hear about your struggle, but pls don’t compare your situation to hers. We don’t know you or what stage you were at. Some people (at this stage) might get a miracle, but in my experience in the caretaker role, EC is terminal. It’s dangerous to suggest it might not be.
@@CC_Babblecock She didn’t compare her situation to Eugenia’s, she just shared her story to give other people hope. Doing her down here is really not appropriate; she’s overcome a huge challenge, you should be offering support & encouragment, not judgement.
It is all so sad. I think one of the biggest issues I have is she is 29 and attracting lots of the preteens with all the costumes, stuffed animals, bright makeup and pink room. Most the time she has no sleeves and a very short skirt that shows how thin she is. She really doesn't do much on Tik-Tok but gush over all the gifts and gaslighting people that are concerned about her. I'm wondering since her family is wealthy, do they have a powerful attorney that will sue if anyone interferes, like the police or medical help?
It’s just sad to me every time I see her. I actually avoid looking at her. It baffles me how ANYONE can look at her and think she’s fine and healthy. I hope and pray she gets help before she passes away. 💔
I've heard Eugenia's mom is the mainly enabler of her strange behavior. I think that what drive a lot of people crazy is how her and her mom can be rewarded and make money by having ubnoxious public behavior. It's like a Dee Dee and Gypsy Blanchard remake where everybody is watching and no one can do absolutely nothing to stop. It's sad, but a lot more common than we think. Your thoughts were really important to me today. Thank you.
I do not think her mother wants her to be sick or profits off of it- I think mother is in denial, she cannot accept the guilt of acknowledging she neglected her child throughout her upbringing. So she refuses to see the truth, which is why Eugenia consistently tests and challenges her mother by making the public speculate on her weight.
I've heard so, too. She's might be using Eugenia, she might be enabling her like an addict's parent would be. There are a lot of toxic parents out there ... we definitely shouldn't dismiss the possibility.
She can only get so underweight before her heart just.....gives up. The heart is a muscle, and when there's literally no other muscle left in your body well....
This is the fairest comment I've seen regarding her. It's exactly the right thing to say. It's awkward to see her like this but by no means should she be accused of anything or ignored. She, herself, is 29, she shouldn't be held responsible for any effect she has on young girls. I doubt she is doing anything deliberately, she's living her own life.
@lyndsie A lot of anorexics have very fragile egos. Someone calls them fat and it ruins their whole day. These people need therapy but they also need therapists, friends, and family who truly care. People that are genuine. There’s way too much superficiality in this world.
Eugenia knows exactly that she’s influencing young people negatively. Fuck out of here with that shit. I’m tired of her shit in the last 10 whole years on the internet.
I would like to see Dr Grande analyze the Mother and family dynamic. Why she seems to be a prisoner in her home and be controlled as a 27 year old. How the Mother seems to approve and want to capitolize off her daughter's illness. Its sad. I feel for Eugenia.
I wouldn't feel so bad for her because she knows exactly what she is doing, knows she is a bad influence, and she doesn't care. She is into the occult, and does what she does for the money.....
The problem was not about her being thin on camera influencing her viewers, it was the fact that she would explicitly state that it was natural and she was just fine, which was unhealthy to spread to anyone (minors included) watching her, thinking they could achieve that skeletal look and be healthy. She's a toxic, self-centered person and I barely have sympathy for her anymore, though I do believe her mother is a huge part of her constant lack of recovery.
@@roriemarie2968AGREED i was waiting to see someone say this in the comments. the thing where she "forgets" to move her gigantic box of makeup on her livestreams is so clearly fodder for ppl with an anorexia fetish & i think she knows what she's doing 🤷🏻♀️
Dr. Grande, you are very well-spoken, have a perfectly even temperament, and are able to discuss these sensitive subjects with such delicacy that it is remarkable. Thank you for always being so thoughtful in your perspective.
You said something like this . " This goes to show how powerless society really is at helping even a one person with mental disorder". And I cannot but agree, millions of people are watching her and god knows how many others who has problems, and this woman is known, I am from Finland and even I know who she is. And then my mind goes to think of a person who is not known, has no money, how to get help then, how to even help, by forcing, that is impossible in almost every case, and I feel already kind of defeated, and depressed when even thinking about this situation. This society is so sick, and we are all more or less insane ,is kind of how this makes me feel, powerless in other words, frustrated because of it. This topic is hard. Thank you for your video.
I saw her for the first time this summer on TikTok. I wanted to tell her to get help. When I opened the livestream comments, all I could see were people telling her how beautiful and amazing she is. So I figured she only wants those kind of people on her stream and nothing I could say, would change her mind. I swiped past it and the other 2-3 times she has come up, I've just continued my swiping. I hope she gets help, but she's clearly unwell. That cop talking about her, is an idiot.
That’s crazy. People telling her positive things like that when she is obviously sick directly from a disease relating to how she sees herself is only making things worse.
I wish you mentionned the suspected toxic relationship with her mother (she lives with her mother afaik, mother goes on video with Eugenia to say she's healthy etc). Seems like another case of a mother controlling her daughter, like the venusangelic situation. I feel very bad for Eugenia though, I with she could be surrounded by people who are healthy for her, and that she could go off the internet.
Self harm scars, gore, excess blood is blurred. Certain things are restricted or warnings given. Now that is a double standard. It’s self destruction by another name.
The reason ppl are so concerned with her is that she constantly poses or hold her body in a way that shows Justin how thin she is, in the ED community it’s known as body checking. She also uses the blue butterfly which is used by ppl with EDs as a ‘code’ for look at me, look how thin I am. Recently, despite knowing how concerned ppl are she’s now started trolling - dressing up as the corpse bride fgs! She knows exactly what she’s doing and she needs help
@@pamelapamperyoung children are learning that it is ok to starve yourself to death. Maybe they have the right to starve themselves to death. But helping her spread this message isn't ideal.
As someone who has battled an eating disorder for over 35 yrs I think her videos DEFINITELY have a negative influence both to those already suffering from an ED and to those vulnerable to developing one. In my opinion as a sufferer, she is likely to feel some form of gratification by the comments about her weight, they will spur her on to maintain or lose more weight, this is why she does it. The other mental health issues you mentioned are not focused on appearance so I don’t see how you can compare a person with OCD posting videos to someone with a severe eating disorder posting videos. Remember this illness is about control and to those who are vulnerable or suffering she is portraying herself as someone who is in control of her life and able to maintain a very low weight at the same time, the reality however is likely to be very different as she will be suffering multiple health issues as a result of her eating disorder which she is careful not to share with the viewer. I understand the argument that it is difficult to ban her but her content should come with a warning at the very least.
It’s about control? Like how you’re trying to control Eugenia’s rights to self expression?? It’s not Eugenia’s problem that some weak willed, weak minded individuals may find “inspiration”. Maybe they should find a back bone. She has a right to live her life, irrespective of what what your opinions of eating disorders are, which you yourself have admitted to suffer from. Stop projecting onto Eugenia what your life is. The girl visually obviously has some sort of issue with food or lack thereof, but that’s her own business. She’s not saying “try this Ed.” Even if she were, that’s her right. Everyone keeps throwing hate in the guise of “concern” for her wellbeing when her well-being is no one’s damn business. I hope she KEEPS making videos, because she CAN.
I've not watched a lot of her videos, but something that bothered me when I did was to hear her say that she was fine and that people shouldn't worry about her health. That could easily reinforce the idea of "she is a lot skinnier than me (and hasn't died), so it's fine for me to continue losing weight". Although one could argue that Eugenia doesn't have an OBLIGATION to warn people about the danger of eating disorders, the content she shares is undoubtedly harmful to a vulnerable group.
@@INGR1D AbsoIuteIy right, many younger girls view her as an inspiration. EDs are only about appearance for SOME people. There are alot of people that have had AN and it didn't have to do with appearance. It had to do with abuse and trauma and others controlling their life and their actions. Trying to control whether she posts will likely spur her on as well as EDs often not about just appearance. Especially in the severe cases it is often noted to be much deeper and darker than weight. Weight control is a symptom of a deeper issues NOT the actual issue itself. Similar to larger people w BED. Yes, it can be twisted around, but attacking just the weight symptom of the disorder is not a valid and lasting solution for many sufferers.
@@liber7773 So you have an ED too, does that mean you're weak? Those are the only people who really defend her. And no, having an ED doesn't make someone weak-minded. It's the second most deadly mental illness. Not something anybody can control.
She revels in it. Comments calling her 'skin and bones' or 'emaciated' only validate and encourage her. Every video is a body checking video. It verges on sexual gratification sometimes.
Her eating disorder is wrapped up in a social media disorder. The sad thing is that it works. She gets millions of views and a lot of attention because she's skinny. The more skinny she gets, the more attention she gets.
That is part of the nature of the illness. It feels good to have people being concerned for you and also validates that you are good at what you're doing (ie restriction and control). It doesn't make her a bad person
It makes her a very very ill person. She is suffering from a life long mental illness with a very high mortality rate. She is very ill yes. But she is not a bad person. @@fantasea114
Or from my perspective, anxiety inducing seeing her being aware and getting off on it. I've seen her hand placed on her thigh for quite some time as shes sitting there on her videos, ( and interesting she always has the camera far enough back to expose as much of waist down as possible, instead of waist up or shoulders up as most live streamers ) she could almost wrap it around it, and it seemed to soothe her, reassure her that she is still tiny like she wants to be.
She's fully aware because she gets off on it!!! Isn't obvious!?! She gets off on pushing her illness to the extremes. She's gonna suffer a heart attack which is extraordinarily painful & she will be too weak that it'll kill her. Her mother seems even more disturbed and apparently psychological problems evidently run in the blood and she's controlled with Mommy. She seems a little old to be living with Mom. Highly dysfunctional and crazy, the mother is criminally insane that she promotes her own child and denies anything wrong as she appears to be an Auschwitz inmate!!! Her mother is obviously too sick in the head to know love or how to love. She's become a bizarre character that of which the UA-cam censor brigade demonstrates its double standards at its finest $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Oh she's perfectly aware and thrives on the drama and people commenting about it- she is ultimately a narcissist. Most anorexics wear baggy clothes and hide their bodies because they are self convious- this one wears skimpy outfits that show it off. She will get high off seeing Dr Grande make a video about her and 100% knows what she is doing.
I'm naturally slender and have been the same weight most of my life. A couple of years ago I lost about 10 pounds without trying. My doctor said as long as I don't get any thinner I will be ok. I get physical symptoms if I don't eat enough, like cramps in my hands and feet, or fatigue. I weigh around 97 pounds and this girl scares me! She's not just thin, she's almost a skeleton barely clinging to life. Plenty of people have been involuntarily committed but I'm not sure how well that works with anorexic people. I don't think she should be an 'influencer' and glorify extreme body dysmorphia like that. I feel bad for her and hope she wakes up and seeks help.
I don’t believe you to be honest. You were trying or not eating enough or you have a horrible illness. I agree with your analysis but you do need to eat more or you need help yourself.
I had an eating disorder also when young. Some moms don't help at all..some are the cause of the problem. She knows what she is doing. She likes and wants the attention she is getting. She is in control. Control is her watch word.
While anorexia is a real mental disorder, at the same time, she knows full well exactly what she’s doing. I saw a video of her before she lost weight, & she was a completely different person. Even her voice was different, & she had a better personality. I don’t know what happened to make her get to this point, but something definitely happened.
As someone who had an eating disorder I so pray someone intervenes before its to late. She is a human skeleton and she should not be allowed to be seen as a role model...

Thank you for your opinion on this Dr. Grande. The world literally is tuning in daily praying that she will announce that she’s seeking help. It honestly feels like we’re watching someone die before our eyes. I don’t watch her channel directly anymore. I’m recovering ED myself and it’s heartbreaking. I can only tell you how countless young women in their early twenties, late teens have spoken up about how Eugenia inspired them when they were pre-teen, early teens to be as thin as possible and it led to an ED they are recovering from. She posts blue butterflies 🦋 all the time, the sign of pro-ana, which is supposedly encouraging ED. So yes. I do believe she knows more about her own influence on young girls than people think. Her toxic positivity and saying a lot of words without saying anything at all is all she ever does. You nailed that! I do sincerely pray for her. And anyone struggling with this.
You, by watching and giving her attention are feeding into her unaliving, helping her do it essentially. Stop watching, unsubscribe and go away...that is what would be most helpful. You're not doing a thing to help by participating in it.
As a mental health clinician, I'd like to thank you for your analysis and thoughts on the endless tightrope between rights, risks and responsibilities of those receiving and those providing mental health services. Very often our 'hands are tied' and like you said, we see people becoming more and more mentally unwell, because they hate the side effects of the medications that are essential to prevent the person from becoming increasingly unwell mentally. Catch 22. The way you presented this was brilliant. Thank you.
"because they hate the side effects of the medications that are essential to prevent the person from becoming increasingly unwell mentally." So, you ask people to either be mentally unwell or physically unwell.....what a grand choice......NOT
What she needs is to be hospitalized, and unfortunately she needs to be in a ward for months (involuntarily status). No social media access, and to have her mom out of her life.

My mom was this thin. She was 5’1 died at 69lbs. You can’t live forever like that.
"Underweight" and "thin" don't start to cover Eugenia's state, which tells you something about how this video is going to go. She's "emaciated".

The whole visiting Jeffree Star seems like a make a wish or something.
It’s shocking how many people would rather die than gain weight.
Underweight is an understatement. She's literally skin and bones. She's a walking skeleton.

@@AbadonBIack this is actually how anorexic teens will think as they look at her. RD here and I've spent a lot of time talking to people with EDs

Neither her friends nor her brother, Richard Carpenter, who was the other half of their famous singing duo, “The Carpenters,” could save her from starving herself to death from the Eating Disorder, and her heart gave out and just stopped beating and she died in 1983 at age 32.
I think her titles are sarcasm. Getting back at the bullies by trolling them.
She gets paid by men that have sexual fetishes by idk crossing her legs or bending over or lifting heavy boxes. They talk to her in code while she’s streaming when she’s doing what they want and you can see them send money to her This isn’t a conspiracy theory. You can see it and people can show you.
We had nonfat sugar free yogurt..it was shocking the girls who would eat that only. when I suffered from anorexia, i'm 5'5 and got just below 100 lbs before i was forced into treatment...i was always in the hospital for potassium deficiency, i cannot help but think she has permanently damaged her body...just when i think she can't get any skinnier she somehow does....and i know it's really not about being skinny.
I'm so glad your ok.❤❤❤
I struggle to keep my weight up, digestive issues, not eating disorders, and when my weight starts to dip into under 20 BMI, still within the normal range, and I feel it. Tiredness, foggy, general malaise, etc... Once I'm able to gain a few pounds, I'm a completely different person. I have no idea how she has energy to stand.
That girl is an Amy Winehouse case. Everyone knows something has to be done, but nothing happens...
But her friends did do something!
It didn't end well
cuz you can’t just cure something someone doesn’t want to treat, just like anything else. she’s not literally trying to kill herself with violence so hospitals can’t prove anything. this is her own doing, and she’s the only one who can undo it. not her fault but her responsibility
Yeah, to be honest, it's a bad read of the situation. She's a grown adult. She can make her own decisions at this point. It's not on anyone else to change her or fix things. It's all on her.
@nocnoc9931 they've done them but her mum has a hold over the situation
She’s an adult not much anyone can do.
I have to hope that’s some kind of silver lining.
his certified professional opinion was ridiculous, tho.

I hate that UA-cam is pushing her content when searching for totally unrelated videos like spinning wool or cast-on for knitting.
She may have had an endocrine disorder.
Karen Carpenter also died from anorexia.
@@ev9738 cant u get an endocrine disorder from not eating enough?
During the Reagan era .. my mom lived abroad and came back after what you speak of and saw homeless populations being an actual thing.

she cant even function normally, she twitches, stutters a lot, walks like shes walking on glass, its horrid
And her teeth and hair will fall out.
@OscarFrosty what? Of course she deserves treatment and empathy? I can be horrified by what I see and still feel that way.
Its a miracle she has stayed alive lookin that way for over a decade, its unreal.
@@OscarFrosty we can see it, but we can't forget the fact that she is negatively impacting others in her community and in general
My 14 year old granddaughter was following her and lost a large amount of weight. She would refuse to tell us her weight or get on a scale. Eventually, she came to her senses and is at a healthy weight. That girl is dangerous IMO.
Kuddo's to your granddaughter for turning this very destructive mental condition around!!!!!!!!!!
So true and I’m so glad your granddaughter is back on a healthy path!! Kudos to her and I hope she continues to improve ❤️
IMO, ur granddaughter was easily influenced and needs to strengthen that. Eugenia has nothing to do with what she chooses.
Omg wow

Unaliving in slow motion...
A lot of adults like cute alternative fashion it's not weird
Oh wow I thought she was like 19 or so 😳 not 30
Her mind is so delayed. It’s a sign of starvation long or not. Not enough fat not enough food to the dome.
I wish people would stop comparing her to Karen Carpenter. Karen had talent and didn't flaunt her illness, she also did not play to fetishists.
That silky voice! I loved that she played the drums too. 🥁
That's not why they are comparing her. It's the eating disorder- as if you didn't know !
My thoughts are with Eugenia and her family, and I hope she seeks help and can one day successfully recover from this deadly mental illness.
to me it seems the mother doesn't help a lot .....
People have been saying the same thing for over a decade now and she still looks the same. I'm over it.
This is sad. I remember being a teenager hoping she would recover.
Same, it's crazy how long this has gone on, I'm 25 now
Same and I’m almost 30.
Same. I'm old now.
Imagine she outlives all of us.....
One of the few times I disagree with Dr Grande. She should NOT be allowed to post - it will affect her mental health negatively to get positive feedback about her current situation.

I agree 1000%
not to mention she is 100% glorifying and fetishizing eating disorders. there is no way she has not lead dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of her viewers down the same path.
As shocking and unnerving as it is to see anorexia on a screen, its utterly mind blowing when you see it in person. I've only seen it once, and it took my breath away. Who knows what's going on, but I wish her any kind of healing.
Ikr. Cameras usually add weight. Unless she's using the death-camp filter, she must look even more frightening in person.
I lost 14 kgs in a year due to tuberculosis and I honestly couldn't recognise myself in the mirror and that frightened me so much. I spent the next year just recovering from everything my body had lost.
@alittlebindi25 My friend I hope you are doing much better. I hope you have healthy nourishing foods, medicines, and comfort.

True
Men pay her !??? To see what !!!??? Wow sick
I wasn't hopeful. With the same enablers around her, I knew that her recovery was virtually impossible.
There might be less attention if she does not look like a living human skeleton.

Yes, sadly😢 very true
@ She, more than likely, deserves her OWN analysis! We'll revisit her about EC passes away. 😑
I find it bizarre that her immediate family members (both parents and brother) are obese, yet she’s very underweight.
Agreed. I can’t understand why anyone subscribes to that train wreck channel. They can’t help her. She won’t accept it.
She's basically like a underweight equivalent of Nikocado Avocado.
It doesn’t ‘seem’ like a life and death situation, it IS a life or death situation.
Soo true! And the fact it doesn't kill someone quickly, makes people sometimes reluctant in seeing the truth 😢
Arrested development from the onset of anorexia as a teenager seems highly likely imo.
I don't think it's always fixable. It's really hard to unbelieve a lie you believe.
It’s hard to believe she turns 30 years old next year because she acts so childlike and girlish.
They pressured until she caved
She had the painful surgery and chemo that made her ill for over a year that chemo stopped.
Get the mom out of her life. Same issue as K. Carpenter with her mom. So sad.
one aspect I think you've missed with Eugenia is that she also attracts fetishists and is very aware of this demographic as a streamer.
Exactly, there’s whole compilations of her bodychecking
Yes, I was surprised Dr. Grande didn't at least touch on this aspect. I imagine a sizeable portion of her audience is fetishists.
Eugenia also does flashing as well for donations 😬
Yep seen her do that.
It’s awful.

If everyone flagged her videos as promoting self-harm, her channel would be gone.

@@KellyLCornellAbsolutely. This is very obviously a deep issue with the mother. My heart breaks for her.
This has been going on so long. She definitely loves the attention and knows what she's doing

and she's doing irreversible damage to her body.
All the best
It is unbelievable how her heart is still working.
It’s heartbreaking to look at her. She is so sick. Being so severely anorexic is so dangerous. The worst part is hearing her own mother co-sign her disease. 😢
Ya i mean she looks more breakable than a 95 year old women, if she fell i think she would break a bone.
I’ve seen one video of her and her mother cooking a meal. Oh it’s just not enough!!! I would drag my child to a facility before a cooking episode for online watching.
@@K10jak Problem is she's not a child, she's an adult. Her mother can't force her to go to hospital.
Thank you ❤
My heart breaks as a mother. I couldn’t see my son withering away like this. I pray for this poor girl, whatever internal suffering she may be suffering.
Exactly! Something seriously wrong with her family
Thank you for at least showing her some compassion. ❤ Most people are just spiteful and hateful towards her.

Her mother and she make money doing these videos. Don't kid yourself.
Addicted to attention is as dangerous as any other addiction
Thank you for listening to my suggestion, Dr. Grande.
Her mom is definitely part of the problem. I really hope Eugenia can get the help she needs and get away from her mom.
Wonder if someone could get a copy of I'm glad my mom died directly into Eugenia's hands
Sadly, she is making a mint doing this, too. Im sure Mom plays a role in that as well.
Thispo has existed for a long time before her, sadly
My last inpatient AN admission was at 34. 7 years ago.
Statistics are statistics, you can recover. Those with AN are determined. They can do anything.
I never saw myself as thin. The angles I photographed myself at mirrored Eugenias. Sometimes I saw a flicker of it.
However weight restored, I look in horror. I don’t look like ‘me’ I was disturbingly ugly.
The problem was fear. Absolute terror of feeling things again.
I was in a hospital which made you stable. I hit a certain BMI and could Think again. It was weird.

Wow, what an amazing recovery story! Well done you.
Morbid curiosity. Shock value creates views and comments.
Me too. I can't look.
I don't think they can be compared. i don't believe her mom wants her to be sick, but she also doesn't want to intervene and cause conflict.
As chilling as it sounds, it really is a matter of watching and waiting at this point. Be kind to her while she is still here.
She's actually 29, not 27. 😀
And what is worse is that she knows that there are people out there that have a fetish... And she is playing into that fetish.
I had an issue with the skimpy clothes she wears and dancing like shes trying to seduce while being a channel for kids

I get trying to be nice, but I think it's crazy that so many people are supporting and encouraging such self-destructive behavior.
@@noeditbookreviews Agreed.

She looks like death walking. How can her mom say she looks healthy? That’s sick
Self harm scars, gore, excess blood is blurred. Certain things are restricted or warnings given. Now that is a double standard. It’s self destruction by another name.
Ban no, age restrict yes.

For people with this issue, they often want to be the thinnest, or in their warped view, the best at what they do which is starving themselves to death. ControIIing their intake and weight better than anyone eIse.
It's not just that her content is a macabre inspiration to other people with ED'S, It's aIso obviously feeding her OWN disorder. If she was off sociaI media even for 6 months to a year, perhaps it would force her into some kind of change, hopefully for the better.
And if her mother is somehow enjoying the profits, that dynamic would change too. I don't feel Iike anything at this point couId make anything any worse. She's IiteraIIy dying in fuII view of everyone. Even if she got heIp tomorrow, it may be too Iate for her organs.

At this point I can onIy hope that when the inevitable happens, there is a fuII investigation, that any and ALL appropriate charges are brought against any guiIty party who couId have, but didn't intervene.
It's beyond me why her mother is not doing anything to stop this. No one can convince me she cares about Eugenia at aII. She's the sickest of the 2, to make Eugenia beIieve that seeking heIp wiII cause her to have a heart attack and die. How can EC's starved brain possibly comprehend that she's being manipuIated into feeIing that any inpatient heIp (EC believes if she "Ieaves" her mother to seek heIp), wouId cause her mother's "weak heart" to faiI. I know I couId be on my death bed as a mother, and I wouId still do anything in my power to heIp my chiId get the heIp they desperately need. Even if it meant they wouldn't be there when I passed.
It's very, very frustrating as an RN and a mother, to watch this train wreck, knowing she desperately needs an intervention, but it is not IikeIy to happen. It may aIready be too Iate. If l Iived in the state, I wouId be caIIing APS aII the time. 🙏😔

She loves the attention it gives her. That’s all im going to say.

Thank you for covering this case Dr Grande. It is anxiety provoking to see her so thin and yet seemingly unaware of it.
Karen Carpenter lost her life at 32 - the body cannot sustain itself like this as it ages
Has it occurred to you, that she's editing her body for the videos, below the neck, for views? She's naturally slender, of course.
Someone did intervene and it made her worse. Forcibly imprisoning her makes her LESS likely to ever seek treatment again.
