    Dash, what you have put together here is an absolutely stonking goldmine! I think this has to be the new go-to bible for Vital. After only a few minutes I knew I would be re-visiting quite a number of these tips, so I put together a handy reference guide:
    01) 0m48: Osc octave shift
    02) 1m26: folders
    03) 2m22: semitone/Herz
    04) 3m48: copy/paste
    05) 4m51: pitch quantise/transpose snap
    06) 6m59: Env view maximise
    07) 7m57: Osc phase retrig
    08) 8m46: stereo Modulation
    09) 12m54: LFO Env riser
    10) 14m22: LFO modes
    11) 17m46: freeze LFOs
    12) 18m54: Unison modes, chords
    13) 21m11: LFO delay and smooth, (modulating Smooth to get ramp)
    14) 21m44: audio-rate/keytracked LFOs
    15) 24m36: Mod remap
    16) 27m37: pitch/note Key-tracking (kicks)
    17) 29m07: shift-drag curves
    18) 29m54: Mod matrix: bipolar/unipolar
    19)
    20) 31m48: Vital routing and filter combinations
    21) 37m08: Wavetable editor
    22) 38m13: Wavetable editor: custom filter
    40m40: Wavetable editor: warping
    23) 42m13: Wavetable editor: wave-folder
    24) 43m08: Wavetable editor: slew limiter
    25) 43m48: LFO phase (incl mod remap)
    26) 46m48: LFO as Macro
    27) 48m53: Filter types
    28) 50m08: Filter drive
    29) 53m28: Resample to Wavetable
    30) 54m57: audio in Wavetable editor
    31) 58m00: stacking waveforms in Wavetable editor
    32) 59m30: import microtonal files
    33) 1h00m47: Keytracked EQ
    34) 1h03m37: Keytracking SCW in Smp Osc
    35) 1h05m35: loop playback in Smp
    36) 1h07m38: remove fundamental
    37) 1h10m36: .vitalbank = .zip
    38) 1h11m42: switches using Macro and Mod Remap
    39) 1h16m08: random gate sequences
    40) 1h18m43: random switching between random sequences
    41) 1h25m52: Env hold bugfix - use LFO
    42) 1h28m37: freeze Phaser filter
    43) 1h29m39: MPE, polyphonic midi
    44) 1h33m21: note-on Random freeze
    45) 1h34m33: reverb from Chorus
    46) 1h36m18: modulating short Delay times
    47) 1h38m42: extend range of parameters
    48) 1h40m13: resonator from tuned Flanger
    49) 1h42m46: resonator from tuned Comb Filter
    50) 1h44m29: and now put it all together!

    I've first heard about Vital a couple of weeks ago and yesterday and today I was looking for some Vital walkthroughs. And out of the sudden this video drops. Perfect timing. Seems to be a very exciting synth and very well crafted. LFO/envelope animations are superb.
    Can't believe it's free.

    I'm on #17 and my brain is already full - I consider myself quite technical and competent with synthesis/sound design and have somehow missed all but 2 of these capabilities so far, despite having already fallen in love with Vital and spending many many hours going down what I previously considered "the rabbithole" 🤯 So now I am pressing pause and mastering these 15 new techniques before continuing on with the rest of your video. This is like going to Vital college, for real
    Thank you SO MUCH for this deep deep deep dive, I can't wait to see what else this beautiful instrument has in store!

    Cool vid! A small observation: 3 octaves up is the 8th harmonic, not the third. The third harmonic is up 1 octave+1fifth, or 3 times the frequency of the fundamental/first harmonic.
    Every time you go up an octave, you double the frequency, whereas harmonics are just integer multiples of the fundamental. The second harmonic is indeed up one octave, because it is simply 2 times the frequency of the fundamental. But the third harmonic is not another octave up from that, it's 1.5 times the second harmonic, or 3x the fundamental.
    To go up another octave, you need to double the frequency of the SECOND harmonic, which gives you 4x the frequency of the fundamental; this is thus the fourth harmonic. Going up another octave after that gets you the eighth (4*2) harmonic. There are harmonics that do not fall on octaves, and these are the ones that are not powers of 2. That includes 3...

    This is a fantastic source of information, thank you!
    If I could just give a small uber-technical note..
    When you modulate the phase with an LFO its Phase Modulation, FM is when you modulate the pitch (or frequency).
    Sorry to be that guy, I'm sure thats something you already know. It was just something that was nagging at me though. :3
    Your content is phenomenal though. You've got actual helpful tips to inspire people to create their own patches instead of just running through a patch you made so people can copy it, which is something I genuinely appreciate.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  2 роки тому

      You’re right yes, however all plugins that state FM are using PM instead, except phase plant ;) the cake is a lie haha

    • @brailyndsummers
      @brailyndsummers 2 роки тому

      @@DashGlitch I've heard such in regards to serum specifically. I mean can you blame them? PM sounds very similar, some might argue better if there is such a thing when comparing different forms of synthesis.
      I have yet to get phase plant but the videos I've seen look insane and it appears to me that it's incredibly intuitive with the way it implements modulators specifically but the oscillators are kind of neat as well.
      This is a slight bit of a tangent; and I know FM8 is old as dirt, but do you think that it is actually utilizing PM as well? Not that it even matters but you reminding me of other synths using PM disgused as FM had me curious.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  2 роки тому

      @@brailyndsummers FM8 uses the algorithms from the DX7 which was the original PM sold as FM design. I'm pretty certain it implements it using PM as well. PM requires far less resources and generally tracks the pitch correctly over the sweep, while true FM can detune the carrier signal.

    • @brailyndsummers
      @brailyndsummers 2 роки тому +1

    So glad that this was the very first of your videos I watched! Mind Blown! So many streamers fail to do what you just did in that they do not go DEEP ENOUGH! You knocked it out of the park! Seriously keep it up! For those of us just getting into synths it is so incredibly critical for artists like yourself to get right into even the most complex of patches so that from your sharing we can learn and increase our own knowledge base from which to expand our own musical art and talent! Thanks so much!
