You had an early access to vital and your sound collection for 20 dollars in your first Vital video. Is that no longer valid as it is a few days before the 24th? @IntheMix
The first few things I want to say about this plugin: it has a beautifully constructed GUI and provides an insane amount of features for the little price of zero dollars.
As a 60 *cough cough* year old skint bass player I've recently got into home recording and am getting to grips with the wonderful world of DAWs. I've downloaded a few free/cheap synths and have spent many happy hours sifting through the presets without the faintest idea of how they worked. I wouldn't know an LFO from a UFO. I've tried tweaking knobs and buttons with zero success and watched numerous YT vids that left me more confused than ever. Then YT pointed me in your direction. I am therefore eternally grateful to you for 1) introducing me to Vital and 2) explaining in clear, concise and logical terms, not only how Vital works but also simultaneuosly the basics of synthesis and which bit does what to which. Within 5 minutes I'd come up with my first, admittedly very basic, synth pad - it was like discovering as a 5 year old that I could ride a bike without stabilisers - revelatory. Thank you so much for your tutelage. Instantly subbed and I will now begin trawling your archive. Cheers!
Reminds me of that Calvin Harris song lyric....Pushing knobs pushing faders but I don't know what they do . I agree though, I know have a rough idea of what things do! Had no idea you could link each thing together like that. I assume if you actually know what you are doing, you could create an entire song from scratch all in this synth with no samples or anything. Any sound can likely be achieved with the know-how or enough messing!
I'd also recommend getting into orchestration with virtual sample libraries. It is a whole lot of fun, once you know how to arrange music(voice leading, counterpoint, and spacing rules, etc) and orchestral textures. It can really add a whole new dimension to a composer/musician.
Only five days ago i was sitting in front of my PC, racking my brain over both the Massive X and the Serum demo and wether i really should spring for one of these, 200 bucks being quite a tall order. By complete accident i found out about Vital and i absolutely could not believe it. Now i got it and it is _everything_ i've ever wanted from a synth. It is _literally_ the best thing to have happened to me this year.
@@Dareyouhow I personally think it’s better becuase the mechanics of the synth are very modern and smoother to learn in my opinion. You can do the same things serum can do and possibly even more with it’s newer modulation mechanics also. And it looks better lol but this is all my opinion
Im broke af right now, but when i have the money, i will buy the plus version... just tested the free version and it made me feel dirty man... i feel i just cracked this synth... it's just unbelievable that this synth is free. Thanks a lot for this Matt and also Michael
Bro the plus version really doesn't have many more features. You can import external wavetables for free. So that virtually gives you the features of the plus one. Hope that helps!
I used to get this feeling but have come to the understanding that there are tons of companies that get that people just starting a hobby or begining to produce aren't gonna be able to drop 3 bills plus on every piece of new kit that has come out or continues to come out and allow for unlimited demo with the option of either a sub service or paying for expanded features shouldn't feel dirty about it. It is starting to become far more normal.
I genuinely can't believe how effective and clear you were in this video. I mean, this is NASA level or something. And I just discovered a whole new musical world, so this is a double thank you sir !
It's worth pointing out that not all the modulation sources are displayed on an initial preset setting. There are, in fact, 6 envelopes, 8 LFOs and 4 randoms available to you. They become available as you use up those initially displayed so after assigning (say LFO4) you will find an LFO5 available to you, and so on.
You're a legendary tutorial maker. You can give proper teacher's a run for their money. edit: I keep forgetting that all the features are going to be free.
Hi! I am an old-School synth geek, and I am not opening my mouth too often, but this time I will, in a positive way. You have a very fine approach to the matter and a fine appearance. This is a very good teaching video as well as explaining this wonderful synth. Keep up the good work!! Thumbs up!!
I can't believe this is free. I can create whatever sound I want with it with just a little trial and error. The variety of sounds you can get is amazing. LOVE IT, and IT'S FREE!
Very helpful tutorial. I was having doubts to buy new studio speakers or serum for Christmas as I am starting to be more serious with producing. Seeing what VITAL is capable off, Serum has to wait. I need better speakers to actually hear what I am doing. Thanks for your time to make these outstanding tutorials!👌
Bought the 25 $ version because I want to make sounds from scratch (don't care so much for presets, all though they are really good), had it for roughly 4 hours and... Wow! The interface is so clear and logical, the workflow is intuitive (if you have experience with synths, of course) and inspiring sounds are a breeze to make. I'm barely scratching the surface, there is so much potential here, losing hours modulating the modulators, adding randomisation to anything... This synth has reignited my love of sound design, it really is that good! Please support this project financially if you can, Matt Tytel absolutely deserves it. I kind of regret not paying 80$ now...
I've been looking at dozens of VSTs that I think are amazing, but I wouldn't call worth the $199 they're asking for. THIS has so many incredible features, I'd say its work that $199, and yet its completely free. That beyond awesome!
Am happy for you in the mix, i learnt all tutorial for fl studio from you with no going to school of music, and now am the best producer in Kenya, thankyou so much, for the best explained tutorials
I must say of all the zillions of tutorial vids I have seen, yours was one of the best. Concise, on topic, well paced and well spoken. And Vital having no manual yet to be seen, an important chunk of info to use it.
Thank you! There were so many more advanced features I wanted to cover but I hope this is enough to get anyone started. Vital is one of those softwares that keeps giving you more as you use it!
The beginning is always the hardest part. All musicians and artists have been there. All it takes is time and practice. You'll get there eventually. Good luck :)
What a fantastic tutorial. If only all tutorials could follow your clear, no nonsense approach, learning would be made so much easier for many people. Thank you for this.
Thanks for the kind words, this is exactly why I started doing these tutorials. I love it when I go onto UA-cam looking for a tutorial and there is a straightforward video without fancy editing or flashy graphics everywhere!
I just found out, that Vital can load and use Serum Wavetables and Noises. I'm playing around with it since 2 days and I love it! And also of course as usual a nice tutorial. You're a great teacher.
its unbelievably lovely how polite, quiet soothing straight forward i could go on for days with talking about how you deliver your tutorials and videos, i love everything you do keep it up man you're a life saver for everyone :D
Hey Michael, I've just bought your preset pack! Finally a small way for me to support you and your work, besides the comments and likes and stuff :) Thank you for everything you do! Btw the pack is fire 🔥👌
I literally don't know what would I do without your channel. I really do resonate with you and your methods of simplifying and efficient explaining sound design :O you are a lifesaver! Thank you so much for being such a selfless human being! Know that you are much appreciated!
I was going to buy the full version of Serum few days ago but gathering the resources to do so, i'm very glad i've found out about Vital, it's new and it's competitive and it's better to give it a chance since most of the Serum's stuff and presets will also work on Vital.
Thank you my friend. Very informative and helpful. I'm usually just a "find a patch guy" to get a sound I can use, but this really helped explain a lot how these synths actually get their sounds. Your preset pack sounds great btw.
a guy once said that Micheal could talk him into buying a rusty paperclip. I'd have to agree with him. tbh, I am loving Vital so far... but it's going to take me a while for me to move from serum to vital. but so far, I love it, my CPU loves it... and the UI may be a little weird to navigate at the moment, but I am sure that as time goes on, as more people try it, and as more updates come out, Vital will take Serum's place as the "king of wavetable synthesizers". Micheal, please tell Mr. Tytel that we all thank him for the dedication he has put into this synthesizer. Vital is still a very new thing, seeing as it only came out a few hours ago, but it is still, very much a game-changer!
Oh man... you explain this so clearly man. You affirm everything so clearly and have such a good feel for the shoes of someone starting out with something (me with vital for sure). Such a good resource, man.
this thing is as much a visual design masterwork as it is a sound design tool - I am so thrilled that the whole world can access this - I kind of want to buy it again! Matt Tytle is a genius!
@@DonKynos I don't know what it is, but just comparing the basic Saw wave sounds, Serum's sounds "fuller" for some reason. So far, I really like Vital tho, I guess with a bit of parameter tweaking you'll get the same sound in Vital..
You can import wavetables into Vital from other wt synths like Serum, Phase Plant, Pigments, etc. I have imported them all into Vital and they sound great. But don't dismiss Vital's own or it's overall sound until you have fully explored the synth. Also, Vital's own wavetables are also great.
@@DonKynos Vital can produce sounds just as good if not better than Serum already, that's not an issue. What Vital will need to get in the future is some of the things Serum already has, like X-Shaper waveshaping in the distortion unit. But Vital already is a better Serum and I say it as a long time Serum user that knows it in and out.
Even 2 years later, this video is still super useful. When I first downloaded it I had no idea what to do, but thanks to you, I think I can actually create something!
I seriously watched most of this with my mouth open. Luckily, I purchased this program for the discounted price and what a treat. Now I can go back and forth through this tutorial to learn its capabilities, so Thank you very much! We are all looking forward to the next tutorial and also to the updates. Can only imagine what they will bring...
Jus became aware of this synth and found your vid. The interface seems very easy to understand, but that is helped greatly by your incredibly lucid explanations of its elements. It’s a rare individual who both understands something well and is also able to explain it clearly and succinctly. Very well done. Thank you.
Very good tutorial! One of the small advanced features I found very useful is the 'Stereo' modulator (next to the performance settings tabs). One can drag this over any control, and upon doing so, that control can have different values for the left and right channel (the difference is adjustable, of course!). This allows us to create wider sounds in a very different way than usual and I think that is really cool!
Your pace was great to get through this in 30 minutes! Look forward to seeing this synth and your tubes on its details! You will do well This one will go VIRAL" Bravo!
This is awesome! I bought this synth a few days ago and this is so helpful. I'm more of a rock and metal kind of musician. I love synth music, though, retro wave, synth wave, dark wave, that kind of stuff. I've been writing synth music off and on for a few years now, but never really studied the technical side of it. This is a great starting point. And your channel as a whole is a huge help for me to get to know the more modern side of music. Thanks for everything, Michael!
After of few days of use and creating patches I would say this plugin is BRILLIANT. The GUI was arranged so well that it is so easy to take control of everything. And this will be a free plugin.. pretty sure this is a 'must learn' plugin for every beginner in the near future...
This is awesome! I've been wanting to get into sound design, and got vital a few months ago. However, All the tutorials I've found have just showed you the steps to get a sound, not how to use the different parts to make what YOU want to make. Thank you so much for this great tutorial!!
As a beginner, learning this program with your video as been the best help for creating my first project! Learning each terms and effect on a sound is a good way to unlock creativity. I was stuck following other tutorials that uses so many different plugins and each of them I had no clue how they worked. Good video, Thanks!
I just bought this synth after watching your video and I have to say that I have never come across a plugin so immediately captivating before. I'm sitting here going through the presets in total amazement. I may have to call out of work tomorrow just so I can explore the rest of this. Thank you so much. This is going to add an interesting layer to my music.
I never knew i was missing vital all my life until today and let me tell you there wasnt a single "boring" stuff that you mentioned. following along my mind was being blown every minute or so with this wonderful plugin
Thanks for producing a great tutorial. I really appreciate the straightforward presentation. I designed and built my first hardware analogue synth 45 years ago but this Vital synth is absolutely superb and easy to use,
I was really looking forward to this tutorial and you definitely delivered! Thanks again for the excellent content and for helping so many of us to unlock our creativity
I never really understood how LFO's worked before watching this video... but by pointing the visual indicator in Vital, you made it INSTANTLY clear for me! They did a great job with the design and visualization with this one. Now, sound design doesn't seem so daunting anymore. Thank you for the tutorial =)
for the most part the fundamentals of sound design are the same across most interfaces, the smartest thing you can do in this aspect is apply what you learn regardless of which vst's knobs you turn. Tutorials can be inspiring and educational, but in the long run following them entirely just shuts down the endless avenues you'd otherwise find yourself exploring. stay creative!
I wish there were sound design courses for trap hip hop sounds , i would even pay for a course like that but there is nothing , null nada on youtube or google or skillshare or udemy etc any website whatsoever. I understand all the things about a synth and what each individual aspect does in any synth but i am not able to create a damn trappy sound , I just wish someone taught me sound design
I can't thank this guy enough for teaching how to use fl studio free of charge, and now, he's taught me how use vital in the easiest way possible, free of charge. Thank you sir.
My poor current plugins. About to get neglected and forgotten :'O Great tutorial and absolutely insane plugin! Christmas came a month early this year!!
I really can't thank you enough! I am so grateful you have your channel and put out these amazing tutorials for beginners like me to learn the ropes of music production and FL Studio. I only started about 1 month ago and I have sooo much to learn, but you have given me so much to work on and have fun with! This Vital synth plugin is out of this world. I've learnt so much about envelopes, LFO's, wave patterns etc just from this video alone. Thank you! You are a Saint 🙏
I adore the visuals in this synthesizer. Phase and flanger never really made sense to me, but after seeing what is happening to the sound with it, it all makes sense
Oh that looks like my dream software synth. The visuals and controls are so connected and precise. The innerworkings so modular but internally consistent, and intuitively interfaced for quick and creative work with a precise final sound for sure. I'm gonna try it.
this is easily my favorite free synth, however I DID buy it right off the bat because this person deserves the support for such an intricate and intimately interactable synth, allowing so much experimentation and combinations.
By far one of the best synth tutorials I've seen so far. Structured and presented fluently. Detailed, but not longer than necessary to get started. Thank you so much!
Uhh! Very excited & impressed! 5stars for the sound & tools! Another 5 stars for the GUI. Negative kbd trk - btw - actually would be great to crossfade separate OSCs through KBD but for this it should be involved in the 3 osc and 1 sampler. Worth to overthink. (Kbd zones w X fade are unkempt issues, always) Congrat Congrat Congrat & THX for your precise and professional walk through!
Thanks a ton! Late to the party, just installed Vital and after watching your video i think i´m pretty much informed about the most important features.
@@myke.p It was in a vital video from last week. It popped up on the menu and he said oops I'm not allowed to show that this early. I can't remember whose video it was unfortunately. I immediately checked and my $25 version did not have the menu option.
I cant express how much I love your channel man! I have been using your videos for years and every time I look up something even if its not about mixing you pop up. thanks man
Could you ask the Vital developers to fix the visual glitch in Helm? I recently downloaded it, and the interface of the plugin was a mess (literally, not that I feel lost or so). While searching for a solution on google I found out I wasn't the only one with this problem. Turned out I have to go to my settings and set the Windows OS scaling to 100% (instead of 125%, which is the default setting). But as you can imagine, that is really, really, really annoying since everything looks so small. I heard this plugin was dope, so I hope I will be able to use it properly ;-)
I have never even looked at a synth in my life. I dont know what oscillator or wavetable even mean. After watching this, I feel like an expert. Fantastic video man.
Forget about Vital for a moment!............ I want to say congratulations and a huge thank you to you on doing an absolute phenomenal job at explaining how Vital works. I was able to understand more with your video than I have in the past week watching others. You have understood what others have not when it comes to tutorials, which is to speak clearly, concisely and most of all, your are very thorough by explaining every little cursor move you make on the screen. How many times did I watch a tutorial and the person made a few quick mouse moves or keyboard strokes and forgot to mention that they did those moves and leaves you wondering "how the hell did he do that". Looking forward to watching all your other videos. :)
I dont Understand any words of things related to music like what is semitones, filter, envelopes, formant i also dont understand waves in oscillator, how everything works i cant understand, i am absolute newborn when it comes to music, tell me where should i learn all these things.
A great tutorial. The first really music-based video I’ve seen (as opposed to the deeply-modulated-fart-noise videos). :-) The visualisations of functions in Vital are simply brilliant. So helpful. Based on your video I will have to add your presets when I have the synth. :-)
Don't have Serum but Duda seems the real deal. He's a MUSIC MAN 😀 Nerve and lfo tool are savage audio tools and well worth the admission price. Long live all these passionate inventors!
I don't think so. I would be a little bit tentative with these sorts of comments. Matt is amazing and I dont think he would like to be seen as the man who tried to ruin someone elses career. Remember that Serum will still stay on the market. It has a gazillion of presents and many many people are very familiar with it and will keep using it. So let's just enjoy how awesome Vital is
Can't belive it is free! I bought the subscription thing and I am not even sure what I got but thats my way of thanking the creators of this synth. I was trying it out for a few hours and got some interesting sounds out of it!

tbh, I am loving Vital so far... but it's going to take me a while for me to move from serum to vital. but so far, I love it, my CPU loves it... and the UI may be a little weird to navigate at the moment, but I am sure that as time goes on, as more people try it, and as more updates come out, Vital will take Serum's place as the "king of wavetable synthesizers". Micheal, please tell Mr. Tytel that we all thank him for the dedication he has put into this synthesizer. Vital is still a very new thing, seeing as it only came out a few hours ago, but it is still, very much a game-changer!
3 days... so grateful for Matt releasing this with a free version! Wish I could buy a paid version to show my support

Oh man... you explain this so clearly man.
This is how tutorials should be made - explained to the point and briefly, but about everything. Thanks man
*VITAL to Serum*
i'm about to end this man's whole career
Yeah, I still prefer serums base sound though. VITAL could be huge if they could just make it sound a bit more beefy.
@@DonKynos I don't know what it is, but just comparing the basic Saw wave sounds, Serum's sounds "fuller" for some reason. So far, I really like Vital tho, I guess with a bit of parameter tweaking you'll get the same sound in Vital..
@@DonKynos im just glad im getting a wavetable synth that has a more visual interface. Surge is good but mostly for melodic stuff.
This is a Serum killer plugin, I must have it!
Sort Of. It is unreliable/unstable in some ways though...I have both and Vital so far crashes every 30 minutes or so.
The only problem is it’s harder to find presets
Thank Michael
You showing us a new world in tutorials❤
Thank you so much for the kind message, I’m happy to have helped :)
Nice to learn something from someone who clearly genuinely enjoys what they´re teaching
Vital: hey serum can I copy your homework?
Serum: yeah just make sure you don't make it obvious

As a beginner, learning this program with your video as been the best help for creating my first project! Learning each terms and effect on a sound is a good way to unlock creativity.
I was stuck following other tutorials that uses so many different plugins and each of them I had no clue how they worked. Good video, Thanks!
The compressor in single band mode (17:00) looks like solid state physics energy levels
It does! I was wondering what it reminded me of
I just bought this synth after watching your video and I have to say that I have never come across a plugin so immediately captivating before. I'm sitting here going through the presets in total amazement. I may have to call out of work tomorrow just so I can explore the rest of this.
Thank you so much. This is going to add an interesting layer to my music.
Cheers, I like your simple no frills presentation as there are enough in your face personalities coming at us on UA-cam. Great synth too.
I never knew i was missing vital all my life until today and let me tell you there wasnt a single "boring" stuff that you mentioned. following along my mind was being blown every minute or so with this wonderful plugin
That's it.....in any more sound design tutorials of yours, we need a vital version too.
An excellent tutorial on a superb free synth. Without wishing to sound too cheesy, now I can actually create the sound I want. Thank you.
this was vital for me! Thank you
Haha
I never really understood how LFO's worked before watching this video... but by pointing the visual indicator in Vital, you made it INSTANTLY clear for me! They did a great job with the design and visualization with this one. Now, sound design doesn't seem so daunting anymore. Thank you for the tutorial =)
Thanks for this brother, we really appreciate it !!
Man this synth is a godsend
I wish there is someone out there that will start a channel for sound design tutorials with Vital (like SynthHacker does with Serum)
I’ll be doing sound design videos with vital, maybe if we are lucky, Tom/Synth Hacker will use Vital too
for the most part the fundamentals of sound design are the same across most interfaces, the smartest thing you can do in this aspect is apply what you learn regardless of which vst's knobs you turn.

Great tutorial and absolutely insane plugin!
I absolutely love this synth! And it's even free, which is crazy :D Like a budget Serum haha
I adore the visuals in this synthesizer. Phase and flanger never really made sense to me, but after seeing what is happening to the sound with it, it all makes sense
Thanks! much appreciated ...! Also just wanted to know ...are you going to be using this more than serum??
Probably the best tutorial i've ever watch, in any regard
Word on the street is this is gonna take serums place
Oh that looks like my dream software synth. The visuals and controls are so connected and precise. The innerworkings so modular but internally consistent, and intuitively interfaced for quick and creative work with a precise final sound for sure. I'm gonna try it.
In 3 days this video will be useful.
Or for those who bought it early during my presale :)
Your tutorials are so far and away above the norm that I can't think of a comparative metaphor. Thanks yet again.
This new Serum skin is dope!! :D
this is easily my favorite free synth, however I DID buy it right off the bat because this person deserves the support for such an intricate and intimately interactable synth, allowing so much experimentation and combinations.

Now the real question:
Will it have a option to change the plugin skin similar to Serum?
So far there's no custom skins yet. maybe in the future it might get added.
There's already a skin editor, so it's already functional just needs to be patched in at some point.
Honestly the stock skin is beautiful lol

Could you ask the Vital developers to fix the visual glitch in Helm? I recently downloaded it, and the interface of the plugin was a mess (literally, not that I feel lost or so). While searching for a solution on google I found out I wasn't the only one with this problem. Turned out I have to go to my settings and set the Windows OS scaling to 100% (instead of 125%, which is the default setting). But as you can imagine, that is really, really, really annoying since everything looks so small.
I heard this plugin was dope, so I hope I will be able to use it properly ;-)
I think if you press the Vital logo in your VST, you can adjust the visuals to scale them correctly.

Try to resize the scale of HELM without changing your OS settings.

The visualisations of functions in Vital are simply brilliant. So helpful.
