The fantastic John Batiste brought me here. He was actually on the phone with Herbie Hancock at Steven Colberts Late Show. Both are generational musical talents.
Wonderful rendering of Round Midnight. Truly- Haunting!. Hancock's Keyboard is even reminiscing of Zawinul's Weather Report chords... all in all- a magical version of already a Magical Piece of art.
this is one of the best versions that I've heard of this song... and there have been many of them over the years. - LOVE Shorter's playing (a great reading of this song)!
Ya, he was out of tune or playing out? No, at the ending Clarke backed off as though he heard himself for the first time and came back in softer an less distinct. Couldn't tell if it was technical, or???
No, unfortunately he was off-tune. Herb and Wayne changed the key in order to "fail safe". But I think it was no such a big deal. Errors ar human. what a pitty. This version still is my favorite one of "round mightnight"
This is an arrangement, and Stanley is reading a chart. The bass notes are written out (to a certain extent anyway) to correspond with the arrangement, and there is a fair amount of reharmonization and pedal point to give it that ethereal, harmonically nebulous, “floating” quality. Stanley isn’t f-ing up, lol!
1987 Gabriel's Oboe, today Gabriel's Oboe, tomorrow Gabriel's Oboe, ever Gabriel's Oboe and forever Maestro ENNIO MORRICONE 🇮🇹❤️
beautiful changes to a classic, shorter is a treasure.

Herbie Hancock’s “Possibilities” 📖 brought me here. What a beautiful read...and even more beautiful music 🎶 🥰
Herbie Hancock is a genius. Have you ever listened to "Thieves in the temple"? What a masterpiece!
Inspirational Stuff... From every instrument.
A great song and performance
Agree 100%. 🎷 ❤
I agree; It is one of the most beautiful versions of this music.
Impressively beautiful 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Really, one of the most beautiful versions recorded...
True, and imagine Mel Torme singing in this, It'd be the best version of Round Midnight.
Really, being among the best is deserved. I would just preferred a little lower volume for the bass in the first part.
Shorter is in the stratosphere
Shorter is so good in this one...amazing
Pure musical intelligence
Nice, everyone is still alive
RIP Wayne Shorter..
Just great!! :-D
o,yes..
It is one of the most beautiful versions... I recommend also fantastic version by M.Petrucciani!
yes, M. Petrucciani is indeed a classic version of Round Midnight
Ooo yes
💜💜💜

Vedi Wayne Shorter suonare il sax tenore con sordina _come alla tromba. Bel suono, eccezionale!
A GEM. Year?
omg😀😱

Is that Stanley Clarke on bass? It sure looks like him.....
Stanley Clarke always plays his double bass sitting down.
it's not easy to get this right i think,
its interesting,
thelonious Monk ..
and then wayne never called stanley again
Why is that, really?

Get used to it
Does Stanley not have perfect pitch? He's not reacting properly to what the other musicians are playing.
Gabriel s oboe is better
