The pope was created by Jesus when he gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven and built his church upon him. Second, salvation is a much more nuanced topic. Faith is obviously the start and that is your initial justification, and your continued works reflect the fullness and truth of your faith. James 2:26 talks about it faith without works is dead. If I say “I believe in God” then go around stabbing people for the rest of my life, it’s not really a good recipe for salvation. The sacraments also matter, Jesus says you must be born of water and spirit. I’m not saying non baptized people who die don’t gain salvation (thief on the cross), just that it is the normal process of salvation (they can’t rip him off the cross and baptize him). Jesus instituted the sacraments for a reason, they are not arbitrary.

As a Protestant, I very highly respect the Catholic church for its structure, and I wish we reflected a church more like that. It's too loose in its beliefs nowadays, although I still believe the basis for it was correct. I don't mean I wish we had a pope or anything, but Catholicism, I believe, was the true church at first, but was corrupted by man at some point for political and power purposes. Protestantism was introduced to bring the Church back to what it should be, but people got too relaxed with it, and it lost its influence due to a lack of some sort of structure. I just can't hop on the Mary Queen of the Universe concept and a lot of the seemingly idolitary traditions (saints and kissing statues mainly). Regardless of all that, I love you all, and I say we pray that we all come to Jesus Christ, regardless of what church we go to.
