Unless you’ve experienced narcissistic abuse you don’t get how horrendous it is. Two years with a narcissist and I was on my knees feeling suicidal by the end of it. Thankfully I found the strength to leave and go no contact and I’ve done a lot of therapy since. Had the pleasure to meet Caroline in person on a work training and she is just such a warm, inspiring lady. So glad she’s spreading this message on this show!

Yes. I do Caroline's narcissistic abuse recovery program after being with a malignant narcissist for 8 years. 3½ years after us breaking up and I'm starting to resemble my former self. My self confidence is still shattered however and I have no social skills either.
This abuse destroys you and it's not taken seriously.

I never knew what a narcissist was until I was in a relationship with one. It’s a very lonely place and everyone else saw him as charismatic and loveable. I always thought he would change. The good times were brilliant but they were very short lived and few and far between. I knew within a couple of weeks of meeting this man that something was wrong but his love bombing completely hooked me. I was a perfect victim for him. Thank you for covering this topic x

@@L-im4tj sorry I know your reply was not directed at me to answer, but when I eventually came to realise what he was doing I ended the relationship. It was very hard and he persisted and made me feel that I was mad and completely irrational. My friend has a friend who was a therapist specialising in toxic relationships. Long story short it took fortnightly sessions for 6 months plus to understand what he did to me, how I managed to fall under his spell and how to move on from my life. 18 months on I’m in a much better space. I’m single, done the work and unless someone comes along who can significantly add to my life, I will remain single. I don’t trust people now and look for every red flag. That’s probably not a good thing. I still think about my ex and sometimes I go down a rabbit hole thinking of when things were good, exciting and the feeling I got from all of the love and attention. It’s hard but I would say I’ve come out of it as a much better, grounded person. All the very best if you are on a journey too x

This is so important. Well done Caroline. What was really interesting to me is that Caroline's ex husband's says, "I hope Caroline has finally found some peace." So the ex husband causes all the damage because he himself is damaged and then has the audacity to say, "I hope Caroline has finally found some peace.". Narcissists are experts at pretending especially covert narcissists. Caroline is right it is very insidious behaviour and the lying and elaborate stories are part of the abuse..and unblinking a narcissist can look you in the eye unblinking and lie and create their own reality which is pure fantasy.. They are experts at pretending and very convincing.. It takes great courage and great strength to overcome narcissistic abuse.. People like Caroline Strawson should be applauded for raising awareness about narcissistic abuse.

Everyone should be told about narcissistic abuse and NPD. It's dangerous, insidious, and often goes under the radar. Even here the presenters don't seem to quite believe it, and that's often true if you haven't been through it yourself. Caroline has helped so many people (including me) and really knows what she's talking about.

I'm so glad This Morning are covering this important subject. It definitely needs to be talked about more and more importantly understood. I was in a 4 year relationship with a covert narcissist. At first he was lovely, buying gifts and telling me I was his soulmate etc but just under 2 years in things started to change, the devaluation stage came he pulled away, would get in a rage over something small, he told me had had mental health issues and was getting help, begging me not to leave him, he was cheating, when I said I'd had enough and said I was leaving him, he would say he was sorry and said he was going into hospital to get help, this was all a lie I found out. also he told this to his parents too, it got worse for a whole year after that. Gaslighting, shift blaming, shouting at me, blaming me for being upset or questioning him, extreme emotional abuse and then I found out the truth, he had a secret life, a job, partner, house etc it was horrifying. He went to extreme lengths to decieve. It's like a plot from a movie. But after we broke up I got help from a therapist and worked through it, it changed me. But I am much better now I am out of it. If your going through this, sending lots of love and go no contact it's the only way To heal. ❤

Stonewalling me. He is a covert narc playing the victim and taking no accountability or responsibility. He had an affair while I was recovering from life saving surgery and texted me while with the girlfriend he was divorcing me. Having regular therapy and putting my life back together with support from friends, family and work colleagues.

I'm glad narcissism and narcissistic abuse is getting a mainstream airing. I was married to a covert narcissist for 27 years, ancient also only discovered he is a narcissist when he left me for another woman. Suddenly, all his little weirdnesses and strange stories and blaming me and other people for his own problems made sense. I realised that he had never been the kind, loving man I'd thought I was married to. It was a deep shock, and it took me 3 years to divorce him because he made it so difficult, but I'm glad I'm free of him. I'm much wiser now.

Completely agree, I’m 21 and will never converse with my mother again after the abuse she put me through. I have C-PTSD due to the trauma + other factors. Luckily I have amazing close friends who I class as family and a very supportive partner. They help me to realise that she is not my mother and she has never been a ‘mother’. The love and support I receive from the people around me now is more than she had ever shown me whilst I was living with her until 16. I have not forgiven her and never intend to. I was married to a female narcissist for almost 16 years. It began well, a second marriage for us both, we were in our 40s - a second chance at happiness.
Over the years the abuse got worse.
    Constant criticism
    Being shouted at
Belittled and made to feel unworthy
I developed body dysmorphia and an eating disorder
I was gaslit constantly and doubted myself ALL THE TIME
I could only see family when she said so
I already had mental issues but she made me suicidal
In the end, she and her family concocted a vile smear campaign against me that involved the police - this backfired as there was no evidence but my reputation was destroyed!!!!
She terminated ‘us’ without discussion and ensured I was homeless and suicidal in the psychiatric unit
    Her behaviour was completely unforgivable
We are divorced and I have met the most amazing lady

I'm so thankful for her getting this type of information out to the public, where it will hopefully be brought to light and discussed so other people out there who are suffering can start to understand why they feel the way they do in their relationship's. Caroline Strawson this was an outstanding way to get the word out about Narcissistic abuse. Absolutely thrilled to see this and hear how you worded it beautifully and correctly.
Well done on getting out of your narcissist marriage I can imagine how hard this would have been for you and it looks like you’re thriving this always brings tears to my eyes.
We need to see this in a more mainstream fashion as there are too many people suffering out there so big shout out to the This Morning team for having you on the show.
There’s lots of people out there still suffering, still in the relationship or maybe fresh out of it and don’t have the knowledge needed to heal and sadly who currently who don’t have the don’t even have support from there own families and friends due to variety of smear campaigns and damage created by the narcissist so heresy hoping we see more content in the main stream media soon.
Love this….made my day and thousands more who have hopefully tuned in.

I do feel these two interviewers have made light of this subject and we all know that narcissist abuse is not a light subject. These two interviewers should have done more here. 10 YEARS it’s taken me to break free from a Uk 🇬🇧 serving police man narcissist from his abuse of me and the children. The police force in question was found in April 2024 by the iopc to be preventing any spousal abuse complaints from being investigated properly. Post separation abuse has continued for 3 years , still trying to get through the divorce process. As Caroline says in her interview we don’t really realise the extent of the abuse until we properly separate . What helped me survive until I was well enough to push for divorce (I am disabled plus needed a spinal operation). was Mel B on This Morning years ago talking about her experience. Thank goodness for her doing that because then I got help from women’s aid . Keep talking about this subject please there is so much of this horrible abuse being ignored by police forces
. where is the safety net for us.

Thank you so much for addressing this, but please also discuss narcissistic abuse within families. I'm no longer in contact with my Dad or my brother due to narcissistic abuse. I've tried to years to ask, negotiate, almost plead and beg them to please treat me reasonably. They can't or won't. The constant gaslighting and manipulation makes you feel like you're going crazy. My Dad did the same to my Mum until she left him. Then it was me that was the target and my brother has either inherited it or learnt the same ways of relating. Now I have very little family because I've had to walk away from my Dad and my brother. It's brutal and very few people understand how damaging it is.

This is such an important topic. I've seen close friends and family members with narcissistic partners, and the change in their personalities has been dramatic. What's heartbreaking is that it can take years to break free from these relationships, and even then, the abuse can linger. Victims need the right support to truly move on.
I knew someone for years who seemed utterly charming. But when their partner confided in me about how controlling and unreasonable they were, I started to see the truth. One day, I found myself on the receiving end of their manipulation, and it was overwhelming. In that moment, I fully grasped how traumatic it must be to live with a narcissist.

Saying that she needs to find peace, indicating that she is unwell emotionally and has to blame her ex husband.
