I don’t you probably don’t mean to be, but I think you are very funny and honest. BTW I am a classical singer and a singing teacher and I’m wondering how this rather quiet instrument would hold up against a singer. Have you ever made a video in which the lap harp is accompanying a singer? Thanks again!
Thanks for your comment! I think your grandkids would really enjoy a lap harp. I have not tried singing with this instrument myself, but it is very quiet unless you use some sort of plectrum. I think that classical style singing would generally overpower the instrument, but if you use a pick and you're not singing with your full voice, then you might be able to work something out. It's also more difficult to play chords and get a full sound on the lap harp than other instruments, so I think it would be most effective to play the lap harp in addition to another instrument rather than just the harp and voice.

Mine was given to me by someone who found one at a garage sale, so I can't guarantee the quality of ones bought online. You'll want to search for several options, but it seems that the one that is most similar to mine can be bought here: easyplayinstruments.com/collections/lap-harps/products/standard-lap-harp I also saw several used lap harps available on ebay for much cheaper, so that could be a good option.

I put a blanket on the table to help it stay in place. Any sort of cloth material should work. And for a harp this small, you usually just need one hand. Two hands can make things feel cramped sometimes. Glad you liked the video!
Hi! I have sort of a stupid question (and didn’t study your music enough to answer it myself). Can you pay flats and sharps on a lap harp? When my young daughter expressed interest in harp, we got her a kid-sized one. But now we’re bummed because she’s limited on what she can play. This instrument looks fun but I don’t want to make the same mistake. Her harp only has 12 strings. Of course a real harp would be fabulous; but we want to encourage her interest with less cost and space for now. Thanks for your awesome video!
I bought mine today at goodwill for 8 bucks, just by chance I love instruments didn't what it was 😂😂❤❤I'm so happy it's missing the bottom bottom string ❤. Thank you, maybe this will be the one I master .
Thank you so much. I have one of these harps and also a corded Zither. I am studying with a lady outside of Munich Germany. I can’t find anyone in my region that plays the corded Zither. I did find an elderly German woman who plays the Alpine concert Zither, but that’s a completely different instrument.

I am wondering what this instrument is or is not. I thought it was a zither. My mom thought it was an autoharp. My says Melody Harp. Now lap harp...hmmm
Thank you for making this video! I appreciated your showing your music for Zelda’s Lullaby, and would love to see more of these videos. I play the piano, so the regular music notation is easier for me, but it was interesting seeing the lap harp notation, too. I am just a beginner on the lap harp.

I'm wondering about the fingering, I see you use thumb and next two fingers. Do you use specific fingers on certain notes, or just what is comfortable as you play?
I just use what is comfortable, and the first three fingers on the hand are also the strongest fingers. You'll also notice that harp players don't ever use their pinkies, so I have followed suit. Thanks for asking!

I think nylon strings would be a lot quieter but I don't see why you couldn't try it.

We can play glissandos (which is what harps do a lot), but not slides like what violins can do.

We can use a pick, like a guitar pick, if that's what you mean
