When you was playing the piano it was very pleasant and peaceful. Right now everything going on in our country we need more of that. I am 62 years old a USMC veteran I am in desperate need to learn to play some kind of instrument to help calm my nerves down. How long better by watching someone else do it who has patience for a slow learner.
i really recommend a 17 or 21 tined kalimba i've been playing for less than a month and i'be already learned 7 songs in total i do recommend wooden ones tho they sound amazing
I never had any luck with music, I didn't understand music and my public school teacher was not interested in helping me. I think she thought I wasn't trying. Anyway, as an adult, I chose to be an illustrator and I have great fun with and love my job, but I feel there's still things I want to do in the realm of acting and music. When I started D&D games, I used to try to be in-character as much as possible, and my improv is starting to improve. But now I'm a bard. So it's time to learn some simple instruments. >:]
I recently retired and wanted to learn how to play a instrument so i chose the ukulele and the harmonica, they both are great to get started on and no i don't play them at the same time lol, great video 👍.
your skills in playing instruments are so good, but the way you pronounce every words? omg!! As a non native English speaker, I love how clear you enunciate everything
Glockenspiels and Xylophones are great options too. There's a reason they're frequently played in elementary music classrooms too like the recorder (which was mentioned here).
The easiest instrument is to play a guitar with a warped neck and terrible set up. You just smash it against the wall. My fellow guitarist will understand the pain of realising your neck is warped and hearing the dreadful string buzz on a $8,000 instrument All jokes aside the instruments you recomended are very good for beginners, personally I would recommend piano although the initial investment for a fully weighted digital piano may be a couple thousand at types. I would recommend getting a cheap one to see if you like it, or take lessons and go to your local piano store to practice everyday. I would also recommend not trying the most expensive one in the store, because you will fall in love with it and then spend absurd amounts of money. Forgot to mention, build good habits in the beginning and learn how to read music properly. This was my downfall after an entire year of just playing piano with decent skill but with no actual understanding of what I'm playing.
@@isabellasorensen8128 This is understandable to an extent but known piano is one of those extremely beneficial things in the music world since they are so common. Think of piano like a gateway drug.
@@joelstatosky1817 ... you don't seem to understand what I wrote or what you talk about. No music stores will let you practice on their pianos every day without buying something. I repeat, if a beginner can't afford a piano or keyboard, they can start with xylo and cimbals. Don't be elitist
She was specifically talking about the opposite - instruments that are good for beginners, WITHOUT A TEACHER, so one can play songs on their own. And buying courses from teachers won't do the work for you whether you play hobby or professional - you still need to practice every day
Electric Guitar is another easy instrumet due to its smaller size & easier action, Loog's brand new electric guitars have built amps which makes them even easier "Flip the switch and play".
@@sipalingpaham Mandolin is easier than Violin cause you have frets & you get to play with a Pick. There are also fretted Violins (with up to 7 Strings) & even up to 6 String Fretted Cellos made by Mark Wood. Mark Wood made Electric Bowed instruments beginner friendly by adding frets to them.
I'm not sure what that wooden whistle was, but it looked similar to an Armenian Shvi (pronounced shu-vee) which is simultaneously regarded as a beginner instrument but also played by masters in folk music ensembles in Armenia because it really has a cutting, high-pitched sound that balances well in a group.
1. I appreciate that you made a video without any of the cheap circus shit people do nowadays, dumbass shocked faces, bad vocal pitch, fake attitude, you're just having a conversation with us. Which is what we need. 2. I didn't know the Ukelele could sound so nice. I actually came to hate the ukelele because it was overused in youtube videos starting in like 2014 or 15. And it was always played the same way, in a type of music i very much dislike. The way you struck the strings it sounded more like an Acoustic Guitar. You have made me go back to not completely hating Ukeleles. Congrats. 3. I dunno exactly why, but i have a theory, when you played the Ocarina, it made me remember the day Boba Fett was taking requests with his Accordion and I asked him to play the Song of Storms, by the end of the day it was pouring so hard i had to ask the staff for trash bags to cover me and my stuff, and everyone was running for their lives. Good times. I think the reason I'm remembering this is because that's probably the day I bought my Ocarina, and got it signed by RL Stine and Lucy Lawless. I know it was that week.
Other good choices are bongos, lyre harp, the melodica, the kazoo, spoons, and the jaw (Jew;s) harp. And for the harmonica, go for a 10-hole diatonic one in the key of C (not the tiny toy one you demonstrated).
I have been trying to learn the lap steel guitar during the winters for three years, I have injuries to both hands and almost zero music ability nor knowledge. I've been reading Music for Dummies which I don't understand much of. I took a music ability test and scored only 26 percentile. I very much enjoy music but am absolutely dumb when trying to produce it. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help me?
I wish I was recommended this video before I bought my mandolin lmao! Lap harp seems like it'd be sooo much easier. The mandolin has been a giant learning curve for me as someone that has literally no prior musical experience whatsoever but I am determined! Lap harp I'll definitely pick up next!
@@elysagarcia2239 If you think of the strings of the lap harp like the white keys on a piano, then starting the scale on different notes will give you a different modal scale: Do - Do is Ionian, Re - Re Dorian, Mi - Mi Phrygian, Fa - Fa Lydian, Sol - Sol Mixolydian, La - La Aeolian (and Ti -Ti Locrian but that's nasty). There are a lot of nice tunes in Dorian and Aeolian modes in particular, a lot of medieval tunes for example.

I bought a pendant ocarina last year after hearing a vendor play one at a ren faire. I feel cheated. He sounded amazing! I sound terrible. Lol I wish i new where do go to get help practice other than ocarina owl. I need more than just his 5 videos lol 😂
I would not completely agree with piano being all that easy. (This is just my view as a piano and keyboard player of 12 years) While I totally agree with the point of easily getting a good sound, training the right technique from the beginning is very important for playing fast and complex pieces later on. You should bear that in mind when choosing this as your starting instrument :)
There are some Chinese instruments that are quite similar to the ones in the video. The xun appears to be very similar to the ocarina. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, but other than the piano/keyboard, these are terrible instruments for beginners. I can't imagine how quickly I would've lost interest in music if I had started on one of those tinker toys. It may seem counter-intuitive in the sense of overwhelming beginners, but people have a natural tendency to want to be challenged when pursuing their interests. That, and playing a "real" instrument will feel much more rewarding when it clicks for them
Piano is a good gateway drug huh? Glad I got a keyboard for Christmas.
fair warning: light keyboard use may lead to years of melodica or keytar playing.
