- We are installing an MMI box from Andream, which gives us features like Apple Carplay (wired and wireless), Android Auto, Screen mirroring etc.
The install only requires a pry tool and a t20 torx screw driver.

Hi Car Noob, thank u for the tutorial. I ordered the mmi today. Your Vids are great. Keep going. Greetings from Germany!
Thank you for watching and for your kind words! Let me know how you like the MMI!
You are Welcome :) Did U Switch any toggle switches in the mmi? I saw in another Video that if u have a bigger screen (like you have) u need to turn on the third Switch. I hope u know what i mean :)
Yes, the 3rd switch must be on
So not sure what you ended up doing with LVDS in and out. Which cord did you use for what at the end?
Nice installation, but did you have to connect the aux cable to the aux port?
Hey I have bought the same device and installed the same way. I have 2 issues -
1. No audio - I cannot select Aux only can select BT/Usb in my idrive
2. Cannot go to mmi settings its asking for a password
Could you help me what can be the issue ?
Nice Video!! After all, did you manage to put the Reverse Camera coming up automatically with the carplay running up? Thanks for the upload
Bruno Trindade I did!
Had to disable “Reverse fullscreen”, it’s for aftermarket reverse cameras,
The stock is full screen by default
@Kevin Budain just in the options for the MMI box.
Sabes onde comprar isto em portugal? xd
hello have you solved the problem of activating the rect camera ????
Yes I have, had to uncheck “reverse camera fullscreen” in MMI box settings
awesome video! thank you for the tutorial! maybe one day soon ;)
Thank you!! Come on, let’s pimp out the x1!!
Hi Car Noob, I am about to install my Andream box in my car (2017 f31 330i) , thanks for the great tutorial already. Couple of questions if you don't mind: how did you resolve the LVDS in and out issue and which cable did you end up using? Also, what is the usb dongle for that's hanging from the side? Do you really need it (I plan on working wirelessly)? Finally, where did you put the wifi antenna ? Can you just tuck it in with the rest behind the dashboard? Looking forward to receiving your answers!
Hi there! Thanks for watching!
If I remember correctly (it's been a little while now), I had the LVDS in/out confused so I just swapped them.
Cable should go from head unit into MMI box and one from screen to MMI box. Take the cable end that was plugged in the factory display and plug it into the LVDS IN on the MMI box (on mine that was the port at the end). Then take the cable that came with the MMI box and plug it into LVDS OUT and guide the other (angled) end up to the display.
I hope that helps.
The USB dongle on the side is for when you want to plug in your phone wired, or have your passenger plug in theirs, lets you use apple or android cable. I would suggest still having this in your glovebox or something, if the wireless carplay has a connection issue, you'll be glad to have a wired option in the moment. (remember, it is still an aftermarket product).
I put it right in front of the actual MMI box behind the dash trim. I stuffed the cables in the back, then I slid the MMI box far enough to leave the width of the antenna worth of room to fit the antenna there. I didn't tape it or anything because it was all snug enough in there.
Awesome video. At my car i can not
Keep it on the idrive menu after holding the menu button it immediatly switches back to carplay
Thank you!
What car do you have?
When you are in carplay and hold Menu for 3 sec, what happens?
Thanks for the video. How do you get the wireless feature to connect with your phone and how do you access the Carplay feature from the OEM screen?
The carplay feature starts automatically once it detects your phone is plugged in, or connected to the wireless carplay.
Once you pair it wirelessly the first time, it’ll auto-connect your wireless carplay on its own when you start up the car.
You can toggle between carplay and your normal IDrive by holding Menu button for 1.5 sec.
Stay tuned, will make a video soon to describe the features in more detail!
Thanks for watching!
@@theCarNoob Thanks for responding so quickly. How do you initially connect wirelessly? Can you still have your phone connected the factory way and through Carplay or do you have do "Forget This Device" on your phone and clear it from the factory radio? Thanks again.
You’ll have to forget your phone in your iDrive in order to use wireless carplay.
Once you did that, hold Menu (don’t plug in your phone), you’ll have an internal menu for the carplay box and there you can choose wireless, and mess with other settings (equalizer, auto reverse camera activation etc)
@@theCarNoob thank you. One more question....Did you have to do anything with the microphone in the headliner? My kit came with a harness for that with a male 3.5 mircophone jack that that can get run to the harness with the two big main black plugs that got to the headunit. I emailed the place that I got the kit from but his response was unclear.
Nope, your car should already have a mic wired and everything.
The kit comes with the harness for the mic, as well as some extra connections if you have aftermarket cameras etc, but unless your oem built in mic failed or something, you won’t have to use that cable for anything, just leave it hanging or tuck it in with the rest.
Hi Car Noob, Wondering if you learned how to update to boot logo on this?
Negative, unfortunately
How did you get the bmw app?
Hi, nice video, btw which version of Andream is this A or B? I heard that there are two, and its interesting what are the differences. Also how it the overall control? Any glitches? Also does it startup automatically after u start a car? thanks
This is the MMI unit for the NBT iDrive, NOT CIC.
Or do you mean something else?
Overall control is very easy, you can use the same controls as on iDrive.
Mostly no glitches, but I did run into a couple. I’m making a separate video for that.
It starts automatically when you start the car, first loads iDrive, then loads Carplay after 5 sec
@@theCarNoob Thanks for a reply. I was talking about Andream box version. There are 2, one called A and the newer one is called B. Did you test it with Android Auto? Interesting does it start automatically as Carplay does.
Hey bro, nice vid ive just purchased this and the camera. Did the camera work in the end and was it the 16.4cm one?
Hey man! My car already had a camera so I didn’t have to install one.
My factory display is the 20cm one,
It comes with all the cables you would need, but I don’t really know the best way to wire the camera
Great vid. Did you get the reverse display working?
Rob Kingston I did!
Had to disable “Reverse fullscreen”, it’s for aftermarket reverse cameras,
The stock is full screen by default
Hi, could you please give more details about how you disabled reverse full screen ? Is coding needed?
Thanks
med amine matimi I will make a video soon
One question, since you have the NBT EVO head unit, why didn’t you code in OEM apple carplay?
That wasn't always an option, and if it was at some point during my ownership, I didn't know about it
What is happening if you press the nav button from the Idrive? It can bring you into Waze?
No, it will open iDrive maps, you will have to navigate to carplay home and then navigation, or simply talk to siri
Koja je bolja verzija Bojane? Imaju dve jedna je 300e sa.carplay druga je 400e bez carplay
Pa ja sam to zbog CarPlay-a i uzeo, meni se ne isplati uzeti bez CarPlay.
Hey , do the steering wheel controls still work within Apple CarPlay and specifically changing track within Spotify on CarPlay. Does the track info display also in the dash behind the steering wheel.
Hey there!
The steering wheel has the little wheel on the right hand side and with that you can control carplay as well.
It’s not a dedicated button to skip but just acts the same way the knob does.
You can use the wheel to click on the Skip button in spotify, if that makes sense.
The arrows next to the numbers on the physical radio (next to the numbers) does work.
The dashboard doesn’t show the track info because it acts as an Aux media input, even tho you plug in using usb, in the back it’s Aux, so you’re limited by what Aux capabilities are.
Hi mate I’m thinking of getting one is it worth it ive got 3 series 2015 e sport model with the smaller screen at moment ! Just asking for some advice
Yo! You have a couple options, you could either just buy an MMI box like this video, or you could upgrade your screen to a touch screen that comes with carplay. Check out my newer Carplay video!
I get the no signal error when the engine gets to 105 degrees really weird
That is weird, have you reached out to Andream support?
@@theCarNoob yes i sended the device back!
Hey thanks for the video question any issues with your system
Juan Carlos Jimenez hi there! No issues so far, it works pretty well considering it’s aftermarket and all.
I will upload a full review of this device soon, stay tuned!
Did you get the CIC or NBT? i have a 16' 435
I got the NBT, what size is your screen now?
Car Noob it’s the original one that comes with the car lol.
There are 2 sizes that come with the car, depending on which package you have. The screen that I have in the video (larger of the 2) is NBT for sure, the smaller screen may be CIC.
Why is the mmi prime of the bimmertech way expensive than yours?
I couldn’t tell you, maybe for better profit?
It wouldn’t work any different I believe but I haven’t tried bimmertech
Just getting a black screen on mine. I’ve tried multiple ways but in the end the correct way shows black screen. Pretty upset
Any luck getting it rectified by the seller? That sounds like a bad unit
Hello sir, i have a noob question. Can you change the language for French ?
I’ll try in the next couple of days, sorry, I didn’t know I had a French audience :)
Thanks for watching!
Do you know if it this MMI box support touchscreen?
I believe it does as long as your display supports it, but I don’t know for a fact.
They also have an touch screen product that has carplay built in so you can avoid the MMI box.
How is the sound quality?
Depends what source you are using, MMI box didn’t seem great to me but one of my friends doesn’t have a problem with it. I prefer it through idrive, cause Logic7
I need help asap! everything is working fine but there is no audio
Go to your iDrive settings and choose Aux for your audio source
@@theCarNoob I did and its still not working
it says audio is playing, but nothing is coming through. I selected aux as the source and i tried unplugging and replugging it in the aux port several times
If you have Harman Kardon speakers, did you transfer the green cable correctly?
I would suggest contacting Andream support, they are responsive on FB messenger.
@@theCarNoob I do not have harmon kardon speakers, Their fb name is just andream? I will hit them there as I have already sent out an email
So I am doing the install and everything seems to be wired correctly based on all the different videos I watched, but when I press the Menu button, I hear a relay click inside the new MMI but the iDrive changes from the working OEM screen to a blank screen. Is there something I am missing? The first tow dip switches are "ON" and the rest are off. I tried flipping the others but nothing changes. Any help/advise?
Hmm, the dip switches are the tiny switches on the side?
I believe that it was like 1-On, 2-Off if you had a smaller display and on/on if you had the bigger OEM display (like mine in video), it could have to do with that.
Do you have the video out/in correct?
I struggled with that a bit when installing, ended up switching things around on the MMI box with the vid in/out and then it worked, but make sure you have the little switches set correctly for your screen size, that’s an important one.
Also, I don’t hear anything click in the MMI when I hold Menu, it just switches the screen, no sounds tho
@@theCarNoob I really am sorry to keep bothering you. But I got picture, finally. And at one point I got it to connect via wifi, but I could not get any sound to come out except for the radio. So I disconnected the carplay and tried to reconnect but now it won't do it. I have reset the system and my phone but still nothing.
my phone also keeps asking for a password to join Carplay but I have none to enter
Not a problem at all! I’m happy to see that someone else is giving it a shot!
What solved the picture problem?
The audio issue you can solve by going back to your IDrive, go to Multimedia and make sure AUX is selected, the MMI box uses the aux port internally to make the sound work.
For the password, you actually have to go back in the MMI menu (hit option), then you have to initiate the wireless carplay through there, usually it gives you a password (I think mine was like 8888888).
There is a PDF with instructions that I used, you can find it here:
