One thing I’d like to add to this: make sure your board has a debug light. I can’t believe that some don’t. You are basically guaranteed to run into a problem at some point during the lifetime of your PC and a debug light can make troubleshooting take minutes instead of hours.

There's also the ATX version of the B550M-VC Pro, going for $115 right now (usually $120, also slightly cheaper than the B550-A Pro). Good rear IO, front panel USB-C, lots of USB ports (including a 3.2 gen 2 type A and C), BIOS flashback, and the 2nd m.2 slot is proper gen 3x4 (I've noticed some B550 boards have a gen 3x2 slot). One thing to look at, particularly on matx boards is whether the pcie 16 slot is at the top or one slot down, especially if you plan on using the other slots for add in cards. Most gpus are over 2 slots tall these days and most matx cases only have 4 pcie slots in the back, so skipping the top and taking up all 3 other slots is absolutely a no go for me if i wanted to add a pcie m.2 adapter or capture card in the future, or adding more sata or usb 3.x connectors with a pcie card. Another thing to note is pushing the add in card right up against your gpu which will hurt performance by raising temps.
If you are only going matx because its cheaper or smaller but not itx because its more expensive and know for a fact you will only ever put a gpu in, disregard this.

If you want to use your motherboard for many years, buy a Mid-Upper or Upper segment motherboard. Top segment motherboards are much better for adding RAM over time, using USB ports more efficiently, providing less heat, and more stable power management. Especially if you are using high-end processors like 5950X, 5900X, 5800X, 5800X3D. Instead of buying a B series on the AMD side, get an X series motherboard, and on the intel side, instead of the B or H series, get a Z series motherboard. For example, instead of buying the Asus B650E, choose the X670 Crosshair. You will have more I/O units both when you want to upgrade the processor in the future and when you add components such as USB/M2/RAM. Cheap motherboards have fewer PCB layers, a lower thermal threshold, and a simpler VRM layout. For Ryzen 9 and Core i9s, it will always be more beneficial to choose a high-end. I have been using Asus Crosshair X570 for 3 years. And I will continue with this system for 3 more years. If I had bought a simple motherboard, I might have to change an extra motherboard and I wouldn't be able to use it for such a long time.

What I'm most confused with is when you have GPU, NVME drives, and a lot of SATA drives, it seems that on some boards you can't populate all of them? Or you can, but they will run at lower speeds or something. Also, what would happen if some of the PCIE slots are populated? I need 6 SATA drives, at least 2 NVME, and a GPU to work at the same time.

Great video overview of these Ryzen motherboards. I have a particular fondness for MSI MAG Tomahawk boards (currently have a MAG X570S Tomahawk WIFI) and have had several. Checking out prices, I see that the price I got my board ($229 USD) nearly two years ago will now buy a B-series board, the X-series boards now costing from $60-$100 more). I suspect that in the future, I will drop back to the B-series boards when I build my next system as they do for the most part now have all the features I want on a motherboard. But instead of building a Ryzen 7000 system, I feel my current setup is so good that I'm considering replacing the current CPU with a Ryzen 9 5900X and calling it a day!

I am inclining on getting the X670E Asrock Legend, at least on paper, it has everything. While I couldn't find it for cheaper than 340 euro, I don't want to go with Asus and couldn't find a comparable MSI. I've had an Asrock X99 Extreme4 and I've had pretty good experience. The OC wasn't the greatest, but I cannot blame it all on the MB as the 5820k runs at 4.4 Ghz just fine at the moment, not with oc memory (just 2400 mhz instead of 3000). Conectivity wise, it was fully loaded at that time.
