    I've been using the Pitchfork for a while, and have tried most of the competition.As far a solid, polyphonic, tracking , with the expression pedal control, it can't be beat, and the new + model makes use even easier.
    The Whammy, - which I think started the popularity of the effect ( Jack White, RATM, etc), always suffered from tracking( a running joke) and reliability issues( a constant headache), and the original Boss releases actually became a thing based on their inconsistencies ( mostly with Shoegaze bands.The original PS5 did some pretty interesting things, later eliminated).
    The Sub+ Up is attractive to me due to some of it's Toneprint features, where you can achieve unique effects.More recently, Red Panda and Alexander have released some more complex and esoteric( and pricey) Pitch/ Octave pedals, which, TBH , - if I had more time, - I might get into.
    As for 2021, I'm seeing the venerable PF on more boards , all the time, and it's one choice that I've remained happy with.The only issue is that it is buffered bypass, and it can produce a slight artifacting in bypass with some chains.
    Nice comparison; one of my favourite channels with an alternative take.
    Peace.

    For bass in my opinion:
    SubNup: Clean, synthy sound (Most versatile, Weaker. good middleground between pog and pitchfork)
    POG: Growly, thick sound (Heavy, best for octave down)
    Pitchfork: Bright, driven sound (Best for octave up)

    Gotta say I thought I’d favor the POG but after this the Pitchfork is definitely my favorite

    Fantastic, the three main alternatibves to the Boss OC3/OC5 :) ... The only feature that I believe the Boss pedals has that these might not, are having a dry out and the octaves out, which sounds like a useful thing to feed different amps or to feed into a freeze/infinite/plus pedal.

  • @matthewcooper7105
    @matthewcooper7105 7 років тому +3

    the pitch fork seemed to have lets guts because the dry signal is at unity when maxxed out, this demo has it running at a lower level than unity at all times....it has some real nuts, and tone print is amazing! adding overdrive to the octaves is insane!

    I've been going back and forth between the POG and the Pitch Fork over the last few days, but this video made it clear what I want...gotta go with the Pitch Fork! Great review, guys! Thanks for the insight!

      Doesn't have as much mid and punch as the pog. You can turn up volume with pitchfork. But you have more of an eq ability with the pog.

  • @sussezq
    @sussezq 7 років тому +2

    Help! Want one of these ... but I can't decide which. I love all that the Pitchfork does. I really like EHX.. though I only have one real pedal so far! (A 360), but it does sound a little more synthesized.. which is great with the electric.. but thinking the sub n up might work with the acoustic/electric better.... you think? If I had a reason I'd buy both... but I only play in the bedroom for myself!

      Try the Mooer Tender Octaver. It's awesome, tracks well, and costs waaaaay less than these guys. It's basically a nano POG.

      Matt Gilbert it's a shame it's really difficult to find these days and it's only the crappier mooer pure octaver that I've managed to come across

      EHX sued (and won the case against) Mooer, so the new 'Tender Octaver mk2' is completely different sadly :(

    Hey guys, great videos. I am debating between the Sub 'N Up and the Boss OC-3. Mostly I'm just trying to create bass sounds for a solo looping project. I want it to track great and go 2 octaves down. Also, I want to keep the latency to a minimum. Do you have a recommendation between those 2 pedals (or others?)

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  8 років тому

      I've never actually tried the OC-3...I used to have an OC-2 and that didn't track all that well....but I kinda liked that...anyways...I'll try to get a hold of an OC-3 and have a play and let you know!

    • @charlesr.7297
      @charlesr.7297 8 років тому +1

      i have the oc-3 and sub n up. the oc-3 sounds good in poly mode but glitchy in mono.
      the sub n up is awesome. you get a octave up as well a two down. the octave up sounds great with bass.
      plus you get toneprint which is awesome. if you like oc-2 glitch then you can use sub n up in classic mode.

    I have the Pitchfork, a Behringer Utrashifter, and a both a Boss OC-2 and OC-3. There is DEF some lag in the Pitchfork and Ultrashifter. Keep the OC-2 on the board for monophonic stuff because it's tighter, and I really wish someone would come out with an octave up pedal that really has no latency.... I know I'm getting kinda anal but just that little bit of smeary-ness totally kills the immediacy of tighter runs with for example some staccato playing and/or really aggressive pick attack. Do you guys really not hear any of that w the EHX stuff? Is the SubNup any better?

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  8 років тому

      There is maybe a tiny bit of lag...but its not really enough for me to worry about - with my playing style anyways! We should check out the harmoniser settings on the Eventide H9 too...

      I have the Pitch Fork, the expression was the deal breaker. After owning a few TC pedals, the Tone Print thing wore out quick...nice for the mini's that lack the dials but the full sized don't really need it. Thanks for the side-by-side-by-side, I was one of the guys that asked for it and appreciate it :) Might not want to invite hate...or you'll get it and you'll care about it.

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  8 років тому +1

      +Stephen H. No probs...yeah they are all kinda the same but all kinda different too...the Pitchfork is very versatile and sounds great for its size...and the expression option makes its very useful in many different ways! Oh and thanks...I really like my new Jag...its one guitar less on the bucket list! And as for inviting hate...we are just being sarcastic...a lot of people take gear a little too seriously! Thanks for watching Stephen and keep posting and asking for anything you'd like to see...always helps when people request things! -Gabor

    What about the BOSS Ps-6 Harmonizer? I am torn between getting one of those for $200AU or a Pitchfork. THing is, I have heard mixed reports about the BOSS, tracking problems and it does sound very processed. But with Fuzz....and intelligent harmonies...and whammy like the Pitchfork...maybe, maybe. EHX are good quality and BOSS are not true bypass.
    The Sub 'n Up also does Fifths, yeah?

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  7 років тому

      I don't think the SubNup does 5th...pretty sure it's only octaves...I'll try to get my hands on a PS-6 and maybe a few others and do a big shootout

    You forgot to mention that the Sub n Up toneprint is editable via smartphone/tablet!!! There is big list of different options of octave modulated with other effects on that mode...
    Better homework next time !!?

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  7 років тому +4

      Yeah of course it has Toneprint. TC have had that technology around for quite a while now, its not a new thing.

    • @ripwildy2022
      @ripwildy2022 4 роки тому

      having owned both the Sub'n'Up, and the POG2, I can tell you that the toneprint editor does not make up for the fact that the overall tracking feels quite worse, and the upper octaves have a weird warble on certain notes. tried multiple guitars, tried having it first in my signal chain, tried running a compressor before it - makes no difference to the tracking and warble problems.
      I have, however, replaced both with a HOG2. the tracking is just the same as the POGs, but it just offers so much more.

  • @MikeDarknutNiccum
    @MikeDarknutNiccum 7 років тому +3

    Pretty entertaining review overall but you guys completely missed the point of the Pitchfork! Sure it does all the same things a Micropog does but the Pitchfork's strongest feature IMHO is drop & up tuning a fact that you didn't even mention! I used a Mpog for years but now I have 2 Pitchforks on my Bass pedalboard. 1 to Drop tune & the other for octave work.

    • @TSFAHTPS
      @TSFAHTPS  7 років тому

      We had multiple requests to do a video where we compare the harmony settings on the pitchfork with the POG and Sub'nUp...we have done a whole video on just the Pitchfork!
