Mr.Peerzada,For your kind information "Delhi Sultunate" is an entire chapter in class 7th and 9th NCERT book in India. Pls dont generalise everything. Of the history that I read in my school,a majority of that was Mugals and Islam. The guy bought one book and from that he concluded that the Delhi Sultanate does not have mentions. Moreover, its very likely that he's lying because nobody buys textbooks as a casual read for their children. It's ridiculous.
Secondly, I must confess that the Delhi Sultanate had very little mentions in my ICSE books however I have been told that this has been the case since 1947. Probably done to hide the attrocities of Muslim rulers.

That's correct. Because Delhi Sultanate was basically a gang of Muslims going about looting and pillaging, destroying in every corner of the Indian subcontinent, not any real "rule" in any sense. And the gang headmasters comprised of 40 "high bred" Turks.
Later on, around year 1400, Taimur Lang invaded Northern India giving the excuse that the Delhi rulers were not "Muslim" enough and thereafter a bunch of Pathans were in Delhi.
It's actually dubbed as "Delhi Sultanate" by Western historians, they didn't really call them as such.

Let's answer your question. India is union of multiple ethnicities with a large contingent of non-Hindus. To maintain this arrangement, India conducted itself as secular democracy. With the rise of ultra right wing party in BJP and a leader in Modi, this arrangement is in danger. This will inevitably weaken the fabric of Indian society as millions of minorities become alienated. We are already observing the effects of it Indian streets i.e public lynchings, Dehli riots and so on.

One thing that bothered me about him is ,,, his life-long association with the most corrupt party PPP in the history of the country. How could he follow a juvenile like Bilawal and his despicable father? Is it because he was jailed by Zia? Or Zia hanged Bhutto? If his loyalty to PPP is based on such individualistic affinity, then I have no regard for his pseudo-intellect either. Someone commented that due to his age, he does not want to make waves. While I don't doubt your sources, but I would like to know which children history books you're talking about that mention 13th-16th century in only 3 pages. Because I've also read history books of NCERT and there is extensive focus on Mughal History as well as the history of Delhi Sultanate. Infact in CBSE board the entire class 7th history books which deals exclusively with the history of 12th Century (Arab Invasion of Sindh) till the 18th century ( coming of Europeans) had an entire chapter on Mughals and another on Delhi Sultanate, also these two are the only political actors that have been accorded this much space in the book. Infact, there is very little focus on Vedic Age in Ancient History books as well as history of North-Eastern region. While I do agree that people like Muhammad Ghazni aren't really shown in best of lights but all of them have been covered quite extensively.
Also, I'm glad that Mr. Ahsan talked about electoral arithmetic of India though I don't think he gets India's electorate. The 'Hindu vote' is nowhere as homogenous as it is projected to be nor is the dominance of BJP is as ubiquitous as many get the impression of, there is caste divide, language divide, class divide, regionalism, and many other factors. I don't think you guys know this but back in 2017, BJP was really really close to being defeated in the Modi's home state of Gujarat because of Patel agitation and they won only through skin of their teeths. Also, the rise of strongman like Modi is because of many other factors aside from Hindutva (though that is also a major factor), these factors include a 10 year long rule by a PM who was treated as essentially a doormat by Sonia Gandhi (PM Manmohan Singh as an individual is still a very respected in India, not so with Gandhi's), failure of Caste based 'secular' parties to provide desired upliftment to their voters in Hindi belt (U.P., Bihar etc) and patronising of criminals by many regional parties, unpopularity of Gandhi's who have lost touch with the masses (though despite this Congress still commands a vote share of 20-22℅, though it's seat in the Parliament don't reflect it due to First Past The Post System). Infact, I would be really glad if you could make your Pakistani audience a bit more aware of India's democratic system because it seems almost every analyst in our northern neighborhood takes their knowledge of India's politics from BJP's UA-cam channel.

The failure of the scholars to understand Sikhs were from Hindu families, not Muslims! Sikhism was not a bridge between Hindus and Muslims, they were the warriors of Hindu families who fought with fanatic Mughals. Muslims of Pakistan were not descendants of Mughals but mostly who converted to Islam due to fear of Aurangzeb. Fanatic Muslims have destroyed the image of Islam. Pakistan was born because of ’ fear of Democracy.'
They feared that under Hindu majority, Muslims will be descriminated against.
But Pakistan was created with those areas of India, where Muslims were already in majority. They had no possibility of being discriminated against minority Hindus.
The areas, where Muslims were in minority, were allowed to remain in India. The Muslims there, still suffer from the 'guilt' of partitioning Mother India. They are seen by Hindu majority,in India, as left over Pakistanis.
Their fear was en-cashed by so called secular politic parties of India, which did symbolic appeasement and created muslim vote-banks for themselves.
Rise of Hindutava is to correct this minority-majority imbalance.

The name "India" is a colonial invention. The British gave the name "India" because that's what the Roman's called the land. It's the same situation with "Iraq", "Syria", etc. (Ancient names with no context in the modern or even pre-modern era). I can only imagine how giddy the British Mapmakers were when naming these places. Perhaps they remembered childhood tales of the exotic East! What "India" means is "land of the Indus River". The Latin "India" is derived from the Greek "Indos", which all stem from the Persian word "Hind", if I'm not mistaken. So what is so controversial about Pakistan seceding from India? That's history. What I've always found funny is that the Indus river is somewhere like 90% within the borders of Pakistan. So if anything, Pakistan is the true India ;)

They can not claim as Indian's. "Aadha titar aadha bater"... At the same time, Indian's should thanks people living in Indus basin for preventing foreigners attacks on them. Their sacrifice is supreme to the extent that they have changed the religion matching foreigners religion and diluted their enthusiasm to go deep inside India. Unfortunately, this fact never capitalized by Pakistani's.

I saw the title on this video, and expected to hear more about Pakistan’s identity crisis. The discussion seems to be rather light on that topic, and more of a laundry list of Pakistani misperceptions about India, Modi and the RSS. Also, Aitzaz Ahsan’s theory about Pakistan being based on the Indus has been refuted by reputed historians from Pakistan like Ishtiaq Ahmed. I wish Peerzada had asked Ahsan to stick to the main topic of instead of having him talk about a bunch of different things, with the conversation eventually going nowhere. I expected a better interview. Looks for Pervez Hoodbhoy’s views on this topic on UA-cam. That man is a much better intellectual resource than Ahsan.

I think that's what's happening with majority of these so called going grey in the hair pakistani "intellectuals" we see these days and it's painful to see their descent into further chaos and confusion in their quest for clarity. There is serious lack of intellectual thought in Pakistan. This debate and your comments show that. And I won't blame you. It's kind of single monolithic monotheistic narrative that Pakistanis are fed with. Now coming back to India.
Countries are modern construct. All of them. Important is idea of civilization. Idea of India has existed for ages. That's how even Arabs, Persians, Greeks and all other civilization have known it.
They even gave it name Hind, which is also called Sindh in other dialects. We even accepted that over Bharat or Aryavart.
That doesn't mean there were not sub kingdoms. That's even today in many Sovereigns.
Idea of India is even beyond boundaries, where it not only tolerated different cultures but accepted them. There is reason Zoroastrian feel more secure in India than country of Origin Iran. Ahmedi feel more secure in India than Pakistan (country of origin) or even Sikhs or Shias. Yes when someone will challenge this idea of tolerance with my way or highway ideology (Izlam), there will be backlash.

I'm also in kind of same line .
Politics should be kept away from religion or vice versa as religion makes people emotional and decisions taken in emotion without being rational mostly leads to bad outcome.
People in India will understand however most people don't think rationally , though they are literate but not exactly educated and what could be the implications of decisions they are taking.
As long as Pakistan or Muslims are concerned, everyone whether be of any religion was oppressed as there were classes ,powerful almost always oppressed weak ones, rich always oppressed poor ones and you could get rich mostly through education which was not accessible to majority at that time.

30:20 you probably bought the wrong book then. The academic circles who are in charge writing these textbooks are deeply resistant to the idea of deleting muslim rulers and conquests from textbooks. Even academics who are pro-BJP, ask for a "fair" representation of those periods, not deletion. Therefore, whenever BJP govts ask textbooks to be republished in a way they fancy, academics simply refuse, forcing the govt to retreat. I think what might have happened with you is that you bought a book only covers that part of the curriculum. That's how the curriculum is divided in India between the grades- indus valley to guptas, guptas to delhi sultanate, delhi sultanate to 1857 and 1857 to independence. It's just convenient that way.

I am so disappointed to see such a shallow discussion on the pre and post 1947 Subcontinent.
The way Aitezaz sahab eulogized Nehru and the upper caste Indian elite spoke of his ignorance of what Indian elite has done to the Muslims and lower caste Hindus.
Moeed sahab, why is Pakistani liberal elite so hopelessly apologetic towards India? Why can’t they see that it was the hubris of Nehru and the INC which alienated Muslims and made them feel insecure that eventually lead to the liberation struggle of Muslims.
In essence there is no difference between RSS and Nehru as both sought the dominance of Hindu Civilization on the world.
Why do we forget that Kashmir conflict is an outcome of Nehru’s treachery and his chanakian character. Even Abul kalam Azaad said that Nehru and Patel were squarely to be blamed for “partition”. Azaad has written that Nehru would read Chanakya before going to bed.

    • @farishamid3277

It was India which occupied Kashmir to keep Pakistan off balance. Otherwise Quaid wanted peaceful coexistence with India. Remember, he gave the example of Canada-United States to describe the relationship he wanted between India and Pakistan. Even today if India wants peace then it must resolve Kashmir on the dialogue table.

Simply a horrible clip, a wastage of time and substantively hollow. I had much respect for Aitsaz Ahsen after reading some of his earlier writings though with much reservation. Now perhaps he is too weak to articulate better, and this clip is a public let down of this man. Unfortunately, Pakistani elites have been a total disappointment on the issue of their Islamic identity overshadowed by ill-advised secularism. Indian elites, by comparison, are extremely proud of their Hindu identity despite their shallow secular credentials ! If this continues Pakistan should just give up its claim on Kashmir, at least the further bleeding of innocent Pakistani lives can be stopped. Why should their lives be sacrificed to shore up a secular Pakistan ? And Kashmiris too would stand the chance of having better economic prospects in an equally, if not more, secular India ! What a stupid wastage of Muslim blood on either side of the Indo-Pak border, simply in pursuit of worthless secular projects ! Remember, it was a Hindu Bharat and not a Secular India which first welcomed Muslims to (south) India !
