Pakistanis do not understand India and it’s mindset and make a false picture in their minds. All Hindus are happy with hindutva. Because hindutva is just a sanskritized name for Hinduism. What Hindus want is to preserve Indian native civilization that has emerged in the land of India. Any thing imported from outside and has been forcefully imposed on us would have to take backseat. I like Pervez Sahab. His expertise is in Physics which I respect. However, his history can , at best, be described as amateurish . Sushruta from 600 BC is legit considered a pioneer in surgery in Western circles. No self-respecting Western Indo -European language expert would ever claim Sanskrit originated in Syria. Also historians who claim that Hindus destroyed buddhist temples fail to name even one such buddhist temple that was destroyed. There is simply no evidence of it. Whereas there are thousands of documented temples (Both hindu and buddhist) that can be specifically named that were destroyed by Turkic invaders including by Mughals (whom he so easily exonerates). I am a fan of Dr. Pervez Hoodbhoy's open ideas; and being a student of theoretical physics and an engineer, I appreciate his scientific work and temper. I would however with humility like to point factual inaccuracies in comments that were aired on this program by Dr. Hoodhbhoy and the host in this program; and would urge them to do some basic research. The below writeup is written with spirit of scientific exchange and humility and appreciation to the genius of Dr. Hoodhbhoy. Hope that we would examine and review the same. Sanskrit is as very much inherent to Indian Subcontinent. Yes, it may have a wider foot print; but the fact that it is very much inherent to Indian Subcontinent can be easily examined. Let's pick Hindi/Urdu for example.. " 1. tvam (Sanskrit)-->tum (Hindi/Urdu); 2. adya(Sanskrit)-->aaj (Hindi/Urdu) ; 3. bhavati (Sanskrit)--> hoti (Hindi/Urdu) 4. karoti ( Sanskrit)-> karta/karti (Hindi/Urdu).". I can go on and on. The evolution and intertwining of Indic languages ( including South Indian languages) from Sanskrit can be easily examined by a bit of Scientific study. Now coming to the "supposedly exaggerated claims" of Scientific achievements of ancient Indian rishis and scholars. I would like to give just some simple examples. I would urge Dr. Hoodhbhoy to examine in a dispassionate way with scientific temper. 1. Ashtadhyayi of Panini--> This small book of 14 Maheshwara sutras ( look up table/data segment) and around 4000 rules ( the code segment). These consititute a context free generative grammar that is necessary and sufficient to generate/analyze Sanskrit. This is a masterpiece that can be appreciated by any scientific mind even with a cursory examination. No wonder that there is tremendous interest in Sanskrit with regards to Natural Language Processing We can further look at works Chandas (prosody) example that of Pingala that incorporate combinatorics, number theory and generative functions. The fact that ancient India had a tradition of serious mathematical and scientific research can be easily understood with some basic research of ancient Indian works and Sanskrit was the language used across Indian Subcontinient to exchange, convey and preserve scientific thought. Also extensive research was done in spirituality, philosophy-- Yoga/ Vedanta etc etc. Sanskrit works have preserved these thoughts for eternity. Learning and understanding a bit of Sanskrit unlocks the connect to ancient/medieval and contemporary India/ Indian cultures/ Indian languages and Indian knowledge base. One also gains understanding how all countries in Indian subcontinent (irrespective of the superficial cloaks of religion) and intrinsically tied even at an ideational level. I would urge Dr. Hoodhbhoy, Mr. Ghias and all Indians and Pakistanis to do some basic study/research to uderstand their roots, theirown languages and their own land ( Indian Subcontinent/ Bharatavarsha) to know about themselves, the scientific work this land and its people have generated; and how the knowledge-base of the ancient India has been preserved thanks to Sanskrit language. This is not with a sense of false pride; but a genuine appreciation of human endeavor and high thoughts that this land --> Indian Subcontinent/ bharata varsha ( Mother India)-- irrespective of the modern borders has generated. We owe our due diligence and basic research to these accomplishments. Sanskrit language does offer a key to these accomplishments by our ancestors of ancient India.

All that you mention have nothing to do with Hindutva. Hindutva was a very specific, very narrow concept proposed by an obscure Bengali philosopher, and promoted actively by the Hindu Mahasabha of Savarkar, and the RSS of Hedgewar. It has nothing to do with any of the others that you have mentioned, with the possible exception of Swami Vivekananda, that too as a matter of interpretation.
Till few years back we thought that our history starts with Mughals and British people. Great podcast...however i would differ on the matter of hindutva. 1. Nehru's era the entire subcontinent was engrossed in gaining independence. They had taken away our sense of pride as individuals shaming us on our everything. After that the previous generations were just engrossed in building their lives and their children. We always knew our past but now we are celebrating it and taking pride in it....that pride that was taken away from us by the British...and not just us...the entire subcontinent. Today we say with pride that yea we come from such a glorious and rich past and this is who we are.....but that dosent mean we're looking backwards.....we're moving forward into the future keeping that pride in our heart and knowing where and what we came from. As someone who believes in Hindutva.. Hindutva never taught me to hate Muslims like Islam teaches Muslims to hate Hindus and even murder them since we are Kaafirs. Hindutva simply teaches me i belong to an incredible civilization and we were advanced. It restores my cultural identity as an Indian Hindu and took away any colonial mentality left within me. It made me feel proud of India, it made me feel proud about my religion, it made me question and rediscover my interest in Indian mythology. I love hindu deities. I love my culture and people. Hindutva is something that made me proud about who i am and i see nothing wrong with it. Why are Muslims crying when we Hindus are having a moment of self realisation and dicthing our colonial mindset to become something new? to be more connected to our roots ? Remember in this whole comment i never once mentioned any hatred towards Muslims or Islam. Its the Muslims who are scared shitless about Hindutva and dont want Hindus to realise their own identity. It's always nice to see and hear from 2 intellectuals from Pakistan. Prof. Hoodboy whom I consider a gift to South Asia, an honor to read his book or hear him. I have few points to ponder, Sanskrit may have a different country of origin, like to know if you are aware off. Ramayan and Maha Bharat were written in Sanskrit so are many such epics. Ramayan was written by Valmiki between 400 and 350 BCE, consisting of 20,000 poems. Mahabharata written by Vyasa Mahamuni around 300 BCE with 100,000 verses, the longest epic poem ever written. If Sanskrit originated somewhere else they should have existed in that country of origin. Appreciate if Prof Hoodboy can enlighten us on that Other comparison I object to was that of PM Modi with Pakistani worst dictator. The idea that "sab kahi na kahi se aye hai" is correct that every human has come from Africa and migrated 60,000 years ago but this idea that everybody has by come by invasions is factually wrong. Thus Khurasan and Transoxania were effectively bypassed in this transfer of learning from India to Islam, even though, undeniably the Barmakis cultural outlook owed something to their land of origin, northern Afghanistan, and Yahya al Barmaki's interest in medicine may have derived from no longer identifiable family tradition.[16] The Caraka Saṃhitā was translated into Persian and subsequently into Arabic by Abd-Allah ibn Ali in the ninth century.[17] Probably the first Islamic hospital (Bimaristan or Maristan) was established in Baghdad Yahya ibn Khalid ibn Barmak, tutor and subsequently vizier of Harun al-Rashid when the latter became Khalif in 786. Yahya ibn Khalid ibn Barmak's hospital, usually referred to as the Barmakid Hospital must have been established before 803, the year in which the Barmakid family fell from power. The hospital is mentioned in two places in the Fihrist which was written in 997. Ibn Dahn, Al Hindi, who administered the Bimaristan of the Barmak. He translated from the Indian language into Arabic. Yahya ibn Khalid ordered Mankah (Kankah), the Indian, to translate it (an Indian book of medicine) at the hospital to render it in the form of a compilation.[18] Al-Razi's Al-Hawi (liber continens) of c. 900 is said to contain "much Indian knowledge" from texts such as the Susruta Samhita.[19] The Indian geographical knowledge that was transmitted and influenced the Arabs included the view of Aryabhata that the apparent daily rotation of the heavens was caused by the rotation of the earth on its own axis, the idea that the proportion of land and sea on the surface of the earth was half and half and the land mass as being dome shaped and covered on all sides by water. The Arabs utilized the Indian cartographic system in which the northern hemisphere was considered to be the inhabited part of the earth and divided into nine parts. Its four geographical limits were djamakut in the east, rum in the west, Ceylon as the cupola (dome) and Sidpur. Indians believed that the prime meridian passes through ujjain and calculated their longitudes from Ceylon. The Arabs adopted this idea of Ceylon's being the cupola of the earth but later mistakenly believed ujjain to be the cupola So all of this was hindu influence on so called Islamic science. So now you can see the difference between Pakistanis claims on great Pakistani civilization and hindutv claim on great indian hindu civilization. Parvez sir and you are doing very good podcasts through yours and his black hole channel. I was listening to one recent discussion and couldn't dispute the India's low performance in hunger, etc index. Felt an urge to write to PM and was happy to see it was possible to do so in a fairly quick time and I already asked/submitted my request to PM. Truly democracy at work in India that this is possible. And I am very positive already efforts maybe on, but if not, I trust Modi ji to initiate action to address it. He takes ownership and accountability seriously and already a few things I raised in the past, I see them responded and action taken.

@@mrgyani Not scientifically more advanced - in terms of military tech yes - the Mughals had gunpowder as a result of their various wars in central asia- but Indian science ended as soon as the muslim rule over India began and they never invested in keeping up with new advances in science and tech. Knowledge in India was also never distributed equally and the caste society that existed in the Gupta era created many fissures - but it was an advanced society in many ways. Slavery was banned, there were actually individual kingdoms that banned the death penalty - imagine a society that was debating abolition of the death penalty while their peers in Arabia were legalizing sex slavery and instituting death penalty for leaving their religion. The difference is that this intellectual debate was not accompanied by (1) a sufficient investment in the war machine, (2) a sufficient understanding of the true nature of islam, which in turn was because (3) education was limited to a few people - so we were not utilizing the full potential of our population - and caste played a major role in this - finally (4) we were internally divided into many kingdoms which did not have any mutual defense pacts against outsiders - there wasn't enough of a shared notion of indianness. As you may have noticed - Indian society is now trying to address all these issues one by one - we have a massive army now, we study islam in depth, education is broad based, technology education is heavily promoted, and Indians are very clear about their identities as Indians first, bengali/tamil/gujarati second - which enables us to launch a unified defense against outsiders.

One thing that stood out to me is that today’s Pakistan has destroyed the majority of Hindu temples in the country 58:17 . On the flip side you state that in two centuries of Mughal rule the Mughals only destroyed 24 temples. A scathing indictment indeed.

I am amazed at how openly and frankly you discuss Pakistan's experience with democracy, military dictatorship, and the twists and turns in its history where Pakistan took missteps and landed where it is now. You are obviously well-informed. Your style is engaging. You don't hesitate to ask tough questions respectfully. I hope you don't misunderstand me, but I have to say that I am also pleasantly surprised to find that young Pakistanis have a balanced, analytical approach to understanding India and its journey since 1947. I have advice for Indians who rant on your timeline: Learn from the Pakistan experience to understand how religious bigotry can hollow out a country. Learn that imposing a one-language formula (Hindi) on all Indians is foolish and will inevitably have the same consequences that the imposition of Urdu as Pakistan's national language had on the birth of Bangladesh. Sushruta from 600 BC is legit considered a pioneer in surgery in Western circles. No self-respecting Western Indo -European language expert would ever claim Sanskrit originated in Syria. Also historians who claim that Hindus destroyed buddhist temples fail to name even one such buddhist temple that was destroyed. There is simply no evidence of it. Whereas there are thousands of documented temples (Both hindu and buddhist) that can be specifically named that were destroyed by Turkic invaders including by Mughals (whom he so easily exonerates). I would however with humility like to point factual inaccuracies in comments that were aired on this program by Dr. Hoodhbhoy and the host in this program; and would urge them to do some basic research.
The below writeup is written with spirit of scientific exchange and humility and appreciation to the genius of Dr. Hoodhbhoy. Hope that we would examine and review the same.
Sanskrit is as very much inherent to Indian Subcontinent. Yes, it may have a wider foot print; but the fact that it is very much inherent to Indian Subcontinent can be easily examined. Let's pick Hindi/Urdu for example.. " 1. tvam (Sanskrit)-->tum (Hindi/Urdu); 2. adya(Sanskrit)-->aaj (Hindi/Urdu) ; 3. bhavati (Sanskrit)--> hoti (Hindi/Urdu) 4. karoti ( Sanskrit)-> karta/karti (Hindi/Urdu).". I can go on and on. The evolution and intertwining of Indic languages ( including South Indian languages) from Sanskrit can be easily examined by a bit of Scientific study.
Now coming to the "supposedly exaggerated claims" of Scientific achievements of ancient Indian rishis and scholars. I would like to give just some simple examples. I would urge Dr. Hoodhbhoy to examine in a dispassionate way with scientific temper. 1. Ashtadhyayi of Panini--> This small book of 14 Maheshwara sutras ( look up table/data segment) and around 4000 rules ( the code segment). These consititute a context free generative grammar that is necessary and sufficient to generate/analyze Sanskrit. This is a masterpiece that can be appreciated by any scientific mind even with a cursory examination. No wonder that there is tremendous interest in Sanskrit with regards to Natural Language Processing
We can further look at works Chandas (prosody) example that of Pingala that incorporate combinatorics, number theory and generative functions.
The fact that ancient India had a tradition of serious mathematical and scientific research can be easily understood with some basic research of ancient Indian works and Sanskrit was the language used across Indian Subcontinient to exchange, convey and preserve scientific thought. Also extensive research was done in spirituality, philosophy-- Yoga/ Vedanta etc etc. Sanskrit works have preserved these thoughts for eternity. Learning and understanding a bit of Sanskrit unlocks the connect to ancient/medieval and contemporary India/ Indian cultures/ Indian languages and Indian knowledge base. One also gains understanding how all countries in Indian subcontinent (irrespective of the superficial cloaks of religion) and intrinsically tied even at an ideational level.
I would urge Dr. Hoodhbhoy, Mr. Ghias and all Indians and Pakistanis to do some basic study/research to uderstand their roots, theirown languages and their own land ( Indian Subcontinent/ Bharatavarsha) to know about themselves, the scientific work this land and its people have generated; and how the knowledge-base of the ancient India has been preserved thanks to Sanskrit language. This is not with a sense of false pride; but a genuine appreciation of human endeavor and high thoughts that this land --> Indian Subcontinent/ bharata varsha ( Mother India)-- irrespective of the modern borders has generated. We owe our due diligence and basic research to these accomplishments. Sanskrit language does offer a key to these accomplishments by our ancestors of ancient India.

Dr. Hoodbhoy needs to look at the history beyond Romila Thapar. I read Thapar in college, a lot of her theories got dismissed after Rakhigarhi excavations carbon dating. Her lack of knowledge of Sanskrit led to several flaws in her theorisation, which are available, another thing she is quite bad at is understanding geography for a holistic view of history, Land of 7 rivers and the ocean of churn by S. Sanyal give a different and more scientific perspective.
Another part Dr.Saab is quite ill-informed about is the Hindutva ideology or Hindutva politics. Either that or he chooses to present only a certain view. I respect him so I chose to believe the former

1. Nehru's era the entire subcontinent was engrossed in gaining independence. They had taken away our sense of pride as individuals shaming us on our everything. After that the previous generations were just engrossed in building their lives and their children. We always knew our past but now we are celebrating it and taking pride in it....that pride that was taken away from us by the British...and not just us...the entire subcontinent.
Today we say with pride that yea we come from such a glorious and rich past and this is who we are.....but that dosent mean we're looking backwards.....we're moving forward into the future keeping that pride in our heart and knowing where and what we came from. And yea its been more active since PM modi came in power and so have our aspirations, ambitions and economic progress

As someone who believes in Hindutva.. Hindutva never taught me to hate Muslims like Islam teaches Muslims to hate Hindus and even murder them since we are Kaafirs.
Hindutva simply teaches me i belong to an incredible civilization and we were advanced. It restores my cultural identity as an Indian Hindu and took away any colonial mentality left within me.
It made me feel proud of India, it made me feel proud about my religion, it made me question and rediscover my interest in Indian mythology. I love hindu deities. I love my culture and people.
Hindutva is something that made me proud about who i am and i see nothing wrong with it. Why are Muslims crying when we Hindus are having a moment of self realisation and dicthing our colonial mindset to become something new? to be more connected to our roots ? I have few points to ponder, Sanskrit may have a different country of origin, like to know if you are aware off. Ramayan and Maha Bharat were written in Sanskrit so are many such epics. Ramayan was written by Valmiki between 400 and 350 BCE, consisting of 20,000 poems. Mahabharata written by Vyasa Mahamuni around 300 BCE with 100,000 verses, the longest epic poem ever written. If Sanskrit originated somewhere else they should have existed in that country of origin. Appreciate if Prof Hoodboy can enlighten us on that

The idea that "sab kahi na kahi se aye hai" is correct that every human has come from Africa and migrated 60,000 years ago but this idea that everybody has by come by invasions is factually wrong.
Civilization thrived in India and many groups came to India through Trade and for better climate. Whereas Mughals and many others invaded and looted India. Only two dozen temples destroyed is also completely false for the matter of fact only Somnath temple alone was destroyed 17 times or so. The no. temples destroyed is in hundreds.
Another thing that many facts can be backed by some proves and texts because your favorite Islamic invaders destroyed many teachings places with thousands of books burnt and lots of our land's knowledge lost forever. If you have to go further just look what Aurangzeb did to Sikhs.

Well I have talked to thousands of hindus from all parts of India--online ofcourse and most deny, blaming islamic invaders for the same. And I am an indian.
@@yourend3177 I think the reason for that is because there were not many destroyed in the first place to begin with and also that one of the most powerful emperor in India's history Ashoka a Hindu at first then spread Buddhists teaching all over the region after which is a common knowledge. We with open arms welcome Buddhists (like Dalai Lama) and treat it like our own culture and aspect of our country that we don't think that there were any animosity between us at any point of time.

Monasteries were destroyed by some Hindu rulers but as I said no one glorifies them. Heck, nobody even knows them properly as you said. In India now Jainism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism are now acknowledged under the umbrella of Dharmic or Indic cultures as it should be because these originated from India and very much similar.
The Hindu rulers I talked above are tyrants and will be remembered as one. The same treatment should be given to Mughals.

Let me give you some example on hindu influence on so called islamic science.
The origin of the number zero and the place-value system notably falls into this period; its early use originates in Indian mathematics of the 5th century (Lokavibhaga), influencing Sassanid era Persian scholars during the 6th century
The sudden Islamic conquest of Persia in the 640s drove a wedge between the Mediterranean and Indian traditions, but scholarly transfer soon resumed, with translations of both Greek and Sanskrit works into Arabic during the 8th century. This triggered the flourishing of abbasid-era scholarship centered in Baghdad in the 9th century, and the eventual resumption of transmission to the west via Muslim Spain and Sicily by the 10th century.
There was continuing contact between Indian and Perso-Arabic scholarship during the 9th to 11th centuries while the Muslim conquest of India was temporarily halted. Al Biruni in the early 11th century traveled widely in India and became an important source of knowledge about India in the Islamic world during that time.[2]
With the establishment of the Delhi Sultanate in the 13th century, northern India fell under Perso-Arabic dominance and the native Sanskrit tradition fell into decline, while at about the same time the "Golden Age of Islam" of the Arab caliphates gave way to Turko-Mongol dominance, leading to the flourishing of a secondary "Golden Age" of Turko-Persian literary tradition during the 13th to 16th centuries, exemplified on either side of Timurid Persia by the Ottoman Empire in the west and the Mughal Empire in the east

Al-Khowarizmi (ca. 840) contributed a work on algebra and an account of the Hindu-Arabic numerals including the use of zero as a place-holder...the history of early Hindu mathematics has always presented considerable problems for the West...it is still not possible to form a clear picture of either method or motivation in Hindu mathematics...this, together with the absence of any formalised proof structure, militated against continuous mathematical development...much of the Hindu approach to mathematics was certainly conveyed to western Europe through Arabs. The Algebraic method formerly considered to have been invented by Al Khowarizimi can now be seen to stem from Hindu sources. The place-value system involving the use of nine numerals and a zero as place-holder is undoubtedly of Hindu origin and its transmission to the West had a profound influence on the whole course of mathematics. [9]
As in the rest of mathematical science so in Trigonometry, were the Arabs pupils of the Hindus and still more of the Greeks, but not without important devices of their own.[10]
For over five hundred years Arabic writers and others continued to apply to works on arithmetic the name Indian.[11]
Another important early treatise that publicized decimal numbers was the Iranian mathematician and astronomer Kushyar ibn Labban's leading arithmetic book Kitab fi usul hisab al-hind (principals of Hindu reckoning).[12]
Abu'l-Hasan al-Uqlidisi a scholar in the Abbasid caliphate wrote al-Fusul fi al-Hisab al-Hindi ("chapters in Indian calculation") to address the difficulty in procedures for calculation from the Euclid's Elements and endorsed the use of Indian calculation. He highlighted its ease of use, speed, fewer requirements of memory and the focused scope on the subjec
Manka, an Indian physician at the court of Harun al-Rashid translated the Sushruta (the classical (Gupta-era) Sanskrit text on medicine) into Persian.
A large number of Sanskrit medical, pharmacological and toxicological texts were translated into Arabic under the patronage of Khalid, the vizier of Al-Mansur. Khalid was the son of a chief priest of a Buddhist monastery at Balkh. Some of his family was killed when the Arabs captured Balkh; others including Khalid survived by converting to Islam. They were to be known as the Barmakids of Baghdad who were fascinated by the new ideas from India. Indian medical knowledge was given a further boost under the Caliph Harun al Rashid (788-809) who ordered the translation of Susruta Samhita into Arabic.[15]
We know of Yahya ibn Khalid al Barmaki (805) as a patron of physicians and, specifically, of the translation of Hindu medical works into both Arabic and Persian. In all likelihood however, his activity took place in the orbit of the caliphate court in Iraq, where at the behest of Harun al Rashid (786-809), such books were translated into Arabic. Thus Khurasan and Transoxania were effectively bypassed in this transfer of learning from India to Islam, even though, undeniably the Barmakis cultural outlook owed something to their land of origin, northern Afghanistan, and Yahya al Barmaki's interest in medicine may have derived from no longer identifiable family tradition.[16]
The Caraka Saṃhitā was translated into Persian and subsequently into Arabic by Abd-Allah ibn Ali in the ninth century.[17]
Probably the first Islamic hospital (Bimaristan or Maristan) was established in Baghdad Yahya ibn Khalid ibn Barmak, tutor and subsequently vizier of Harun al-Rashid when the latter became Khalif in 786. Yahya ibn Khalid ibn Barmak's hospital, usually referred to as the Barmakid Hospital must have been established before 803, the year in which the Barmakid family fell from power. The hospital is mentioned in two places in the Fihrist which was written in 997. Ibn Dahn, Al Hindi, who administered the Bimaristan of the Barmak. He translated from the Indian language into Arabic. Yahya ibn Khalid ordered Mankah (Kankah), the Indian, to translate it (an Indian book of medicine) at the hospital to render it in the form of a compilation.[18]
Al-Razi's Al-Hawi (liber continens) of c. 900 is said to contain "much Indian knowledge" from texts such as the Susruta Samhita.[19]
The Indian geographical knowledge that was transmitted and influenced the Arabs included the view of Aryabhata that the apparent daily rotation of the heavens was caused by the rotation of the earth on its own axis, the idea that the proportion of land and sea on the surface of the earth was half and half and the land mass as being dome shaped and covered on all sides by water.
The Arabs utilized the Indian cartographic system in which the northern hemisphere was considered to be the inhabited part of the earth and divided into nine parts. Its four geographical limits were djamakut in the east, rum in the west, Ceylon as the cupola (dome) and Sidpur.
Indians believed that the prime meridian passes through ujjain and calculated their longitudes from Ceylon. The Arabs adopted this idea of Ceylon's being the cupola of the earth but later mistakenly believed ujjain to be the cupola
So all of this was hindu influence on so called Islamic science.
So now you can see the difference between Pakistanis claims on great Pakistani civilization and hindutv claim on great indian hindu civilization.

I was listening to one recent discussion and couldn't dispute the India's low performance in hunger, etc index. Felt an urge to write to PM and was happy to see it was possible to do so in a fairly quick time and I already asked/submitted my request to PM.
Truly democracy at work in India that this is possible. And I am very positive already efforts maybe on, but if not, I trust Modi ji to initiate action to address it. He takes ownership and accountability seriously and already a few things I raised in the past, I see them responded and action taken.

@@mrgyani Not scientifically more advanced - in terms of military tech yes - the Mughals had gunpowder as a result of their various wars in central asia- but Indian science ended as soon as the muslim rule over India began and they never invested in keeping up with new advances in science and tech. Knowledge in India was also never distributed equally and the caste society that existed in the Gupta era created many fissures - but it was an advanced society in many ways. Slavery was banned, there were actually individual kingdoms that banned the death penalty - imagine a society that was debating abolition of the death penalty while their peers in Arabia were legalizing sex slavery and instituting death penalty for leaving their religion.
The difference is that this intellectual debate was not accompanied by (1) a sufficient investment in the war machine, (2) a sufficient understanding of the true nature of islam, which in turn was because (3) education was limited to a few people - so we were not utilizing the full potential of our population - and caste played a major role in this - finally (4) we were internally divided into many kingdoms which did not have any mutual defense pacts against outsiders - there wasn't enough of a shared notion of indianness.
As you may have noticed - Indian society is now trying to address all these issues one by one - we have a massive army now, we study islam in depth, education is broad based, technology education is heavily promoted, and Indians are very clear about their identities as Indians first, bengali/tamil/gujarati second - which enables us to launch a unified defense against outsiders.

Sanskritham is very much from Indian Sub-continent Land.
Its evolutionary linguistic pattern which from early Brahmi to Post Rig Vedic , Palli , Paninian or even Classical Gandhara ( or even basic Shivagana Sanskritham ) shows how much the script and language was used and eventually assimilating and being alive in every single existential Indian Languages till today.

I am amazed at how openly and frankly you discuss Pakistan's experience with democracy, military dictatorship, and the twists and turns in its history where Pakistan took missteps and landed where it is now. You are obviously well-informed. Your style is engaging. You don't hesitate to ask tough questions respectfully. I hope you don't misunderstand me, but I have to say that I am also pleasantly surprised to find that young Pakistanis have a balanced, analytical approach to understanding India and its journey since 1947. I have advice for Indians who rant on your timeline: Learn from the Pakistan experience to understand how religious bigotry can hollow out a country. Learn that imposing a one-language formula (Hindi) on all Indians is foolish and will inevitably have the same consequences that the imposition of Urdu as Pakistan's national language had on the birth of Bangladesh.
