Mick and Sam filming never disappoint. Still cant beat the old school holden 202, 253 and 308. Thank you guys for your time to make these videos to share your knowledge. Love new engines but got the old school engines in the blood.
@@MSEngines You guys are going a great job, I would drive my 5.7ltr to Mick for a complete rebuild from Sydney in a trailer. Would love to see a Ls1 complete rebuild from start to finish. Keep it up gents love it 🙏
LIke the LIM gaskets on the Ecotecs, not sure how Holden got away with this chain issue. Should of been a recall or class action at the least......people are still paying for these things unfortunately. Holden obviously didn't learn from the crappy chain tensioner dud on the Eco's. All round poo design.
What are the chances of replacing these problematic alloy tech engines back to the good old eco tech 3.8 vs engine basically going backwards to a more reliable engine. I see so many good cheap vehicles for sale with (needs timing chains done)
If that’s a customers engine rebuild that’s a bit rough man. No tensioning bolts. Using a shifter for Christ sake. Full tension up on a rattle gun with the chain tensioner on one bolt, tensioner isn’t aligned so just send the other bolt home with the rattle gun. Wow.
the LFX and LLT are good engines. I’ve always maintained the ly7 (the first one) is the sole reason boomers and ignorant Ford fanboys think every alloytech is sh*t
Look, I did mine according to the GM service manual, the bible so to speak, it does not say blah blah blah, it says, the timing chains must be timed to the two separate timing marks on the oil pump, ie at 5 oclock / 8 oclock, that is why they are there, this engine has 2 stages of timing, you just put the chains on using the 8 oclock mark and disregarded the GM manual completely, bottom line either GM or you are wrong, no ifs or buts. I have had no issues with following the GM engineer's instructions, no misses and the engine runs like new. I would have liked to have seen your engine started up and heard the misses or worse the valves interfering with the pistons etc as other have by following this lazy procedure that is just wrong. Do it by the book, it isn't hard and it won't mean you have to go back in or worse look for a new motor. Very easy job to do if you just follow the GM manual.
You wasted your time even the dealers do it this way LOL Following the manual was your first mistake and commenting on here like a know it all was your second. Replying to this will be your third :)

Great video, very informative and I learn so much by listening to your advice, years of experience, instructions and 'buy genuine' timing chains.
Would love to see a full alloytec rebuild or a holden 179 love the channel
Top shelf Mick, I need to change out ours great info👌🇦🇺
great job mate. now i know what my engine looks like in there.
Lol, good old rattletechs!
I have a 2011 Omega with 313000kms, still original timing chains, wish me luck lol.
You make it look so easy.
Love watching your vids.
Spot on Mick you can't beat a cam belt. Better off without the stupid chains.
Do you tension any bolts. Change any gears.
What’s the grease you’ve put on the chains ?
Love your video mate. Just great simple and clever work too can U tell me what's wrong with the cheap timing chain kitsplz
Did you make the cam shafts coming tool.
4:27 Sir could you be so kind to convey if cylinder number 1 is top dead center at stage 2 position or stage 1. Thank you 🙂
That was Awesome!!! and i thank you👍🏿😅😂
Your a champion where is your shop located..when i need mine done...jack
Mate he didn’t even tension a bolt lol
What sealant do you use?
Does the engine need to be lifted or is it able to be done without?
can be done without just a pain
@@itsnot1673would you not have easy accent if you stripped off the front bumper and rad?
What. Is the cost of doing this and how many Kilometers before expecting this to be done
Its bout $1500 and happened to me at 370 im not even bothering fixing them just getting a whole new engine
a cam belt wouldve been a dream. those timing kits are pricey.
Great video. Looking for an experienced mechanic in Sydney who can give my Alloytec some love 🇭🇲 Anyone have a recommendation? Thank you 😊
what's that cost in car?
Poor crank snout and key way

Audi isn’t much better.
IT all looks so easy, but it isn't
What a crap engine the alloy tech
Change the oil every 5 to 7000 kms and they are quite good.

Hes done all the timing in the second stage position
“Rough as guts” comes to mind.
How long did it take you mate? I’m weighing up wether to do it myself or pay a mechanic
