Well shit, I live in OH. 😂. Seriously though, good video and tips. All truth. I Have enjoyed and learned from some of your repair/troubleshooting videos, so thanks!
@BoatBusters We have far too many projects of the 4 wheel kind to be flipping boats, so there is no competition on this side. Lol. Looks like a cool hobby, though, so maybe when everything else is done. Cheers!
@ haha well that’s very kind of you.. but really us who are new to boats really appreciate all the insight. It has been an adventure doing the marketplace shuffle. Keep at it bro.
You Never Know is the title: I went to a guy's house for a gas can advertised. After paying him he asked if I would be interested in an outboard. So, he shows me a Evinrude 8 HP and says it runs but no idle. Price he gives me? $40.00. Took it home and the first thing was wrong plugs, Compression is 90 pounds both cylinders. Next, the coils are literally melted. Ordered those. Fuel pump, leaking. Replaced that. No Way this thing ever ran in recent history. Hopefully Coils will give the right spark. I went with genuine OEM coils. The seller gave me his engine stand which I would love to show someone. He took a medical aluminum walker, put wood across it and hung the motor. I did not even notice it until I got home. Hey it works.
How do you feel about when selling and you have multiple people interested and they make an offer? Who do you choose to sell to? I got called every name in the book when I sold to one guy over another
@@jimiluketic9431 good question! Typically what I will do is I will ask where they are coming from. I’d prefer the guy that lives 10 minutes down the road to come first because if he decides to pass on it, I didn’t waste as much time as I would have if I let the dude making a 2 hour drive come. If there’s no crazy time differences most of the time I go in order of who messaged me first. It’s hard to argue against a simple “hey, I have another person who messaged me first that’s going to come take a look but I will let you know if they decide to pass on it”
Why do i see a-lot of mercury 9.9 72 ish models on marketplace!!! I own one myself and have issues with it staying running!! Ive never tested anything you say to check yet!! Like compression or spark testers !! I am going to order that stuff soon!! I was just curious if other issues make you stay away from these models!! Thanks for the videos. Ive learned alot
@@jasonstephens-e7v thank you! And yeah, I avoid those old Mercury 9.9s like the plague… mainly because they’re extremely hard to find parts for. Early 70s Johnson’s and Evinrudes have tons of options for cheap aftermarket parts but those mercs do not. Buying a new set of something even basic like ignition coils for them will run you $200+ now a days because they really only sell factory original that are very rare
@@BoatBusters My neighbor has a 9.9 that he claims to be re-carbed to now a 15 HP. How can one tell if that has been done? Is there a big difference between the 9,9 carb and the 15hp version?
@ the only real difference is the hole on the carb that hooks up to the engine intake is bigger than the 9.9- it allows in more air. Im not so sure with mercuries but with Johnson’s and Evinrudes there are 2 steps to make it a true 15 Hp, you have to mess with the exhaust a bit. Just swapping carbs makes it about a 13 hp.
@@Jevinrude_dude158 in my area, I’m listing it for $750 ish and probably taking the first offer of $650-700. Assuming it has a clear title. But also depends on the year model could be a bit higher

@@BoatBusters btw i have a question, i have a 25hp envinrude 2 stroke but it isn't cooling an i already replaced the impellor. So what else could it be?
@ as long as the impeller replacement was done correctly, check your thermostat. Should be 3 bolts on the front of the engine. If jammed water will not be able to flow- you can test by removing the thermostat and attempting to start it up again. If water is pumping without the thermostat, then you had a bad one and can replace it for $20-30! If water still isn’t pumping after thermostat removal and you’re sure the impeller was installed correctly, you likely have some clogged water jackets inside the block.
