My latest video is fresh from Brunei and the wonderful 48 hours I had there eating food, socialisizing, seeing the Sultan and of course recognizing the power of Instagram for entrepreneurs (cc Rano iskandar Thanis Lim )

The Sultan says that his great great grandfather was Prince of Mecca, and I really doubt that. But if that is true, then the Sultan is of Arabic origin. Many of the Indonesian and Malaysian people have Arabic blood. Specifically, of traders from the Hadramaut region of Yemen who emigrated to spread Islam and to do business in Africa and East Asia (from Malawi to the Philippines). Many Arab billionaires are Hadramautis (examples: Bin Laden in Saudi Arabia and Mohammed Al Amoudi in Ethiopia)
kuwaitloving he's not the Prince of Mecca, but a young man from Taif who also the grand, grandchildren of Hassan( Prophet Muhammad's grandchild) migrated to Brunei, to spread the Islam inluence and then married the Princess of Brunei and eventually became the 3rd Sultan of Brunei
Also, i just wanna know, do the Malays speak a different kind of Malay language..? Coz i heard some Malay Brueians talk but i dont really understand what they say =x
umm Brunei is NOT landlocked...our entire northern coastline and deep water harbor kind of prove that wrong (and a lot of oil rigs plus a functioning navy and gas tanker fleet). Landlocked means no shores.
I wish I could go to Brunie Darusalam specially to the Museum to see it for myself the name of my grandfather engraved in the family tree of Sultan Mohamad Jamalul Alam II.The tourists who have gone their informed us they saw the name of our grandfather.I'ved read the Sarsila written n arabic as well as in bahasa tausug, I came across the name of your Sultan Hasanal. We emailed him several times but unfortunately he did not reply. My intentioned was to inform the Majesty that we are existing but totally neglegted and rejected despite the evidences on hand to prove we are part of their flesh and blood.Well, we just leave it to God and to those Karamats who were gone already.
Yeah... Kampong Ayer reminds me of Venice, and Tasek Lama reminds me of Central Park... C'mon, guys, seriously? :D If you come across any sort of treasure in Brunei, you're darn right it will be absolutely unexpected. Save your money for Kota Kinabalu, Mulu caves, etc.
I think it's bad that you praise a country, which has many severe human rights abuses! With criminal punishments such as being stoned to death, having hands or feet amputated, public floggings, amongst many others. You can get these punishment handed to you, for a lot less than murder! Brunei should be boycotted and have economic sanctions levied against it. Gay people can get many many years in prison, just for who they love! People who are drunk and not causing a disturbance, will be flogged publicly. Religious minorities in Brunei are also not treated as well as they should.
not every place is like the west so don't expect everyone to follow your way which you term as human right...you want to consume alchohol, be gay whatever do it else where..brunei is not the most liberal and they never have any intention to do so..if this lady praise brunei for being it self so be it..it seem she understand the meaning of different culture and way of life..it means different..obviously..which most people ignored..and anywhere in the whole world religious minority is treated as a minority..you don't get special treatment..even in a secular state.
What's in it for you? Do you fucking live there? Have you ever heard of other countries having their own cultures and values different than yours? Mind your fucking business. I fucking hate people like you. Acting like a God policing other nations what they do inside their homes.
Robbie Aikman it's the rules from the quran. We held by our religion (Islam) strongly. So if you don't know a thing about Brunei and have only heard/read or visit Brunei a few times before, you better just shut your mouth. You can't expect every country to have the rules as the west countries.
Thank you Natalie. Appreciate your enthusiasm and showing other facets of life here in Brunei..All the best to you and yours
Loved seeing all the different foods and how you highlighted local entrepreneurs!
