Most notably, marr plays Single coil jags... Frusciante uses it quite often (not as much as the strat and recently, yamahas), he chose to appear on under the bridge's music vid with his old green jag (that burned on a house fire most likely)... He now owns an orange one. I think thom York has used it, and the guys on sonic youth are notorious jag users...Moore, Gordon and Ranaldo...
Mr. Chappers, you are awesome. It's great to see how well you're doing in the music industry! Love your music, too. Just bought "Mantra Of The Monkeylord" and am mortified that I didn't buy it earlier. If you respond to me it would make my day. Mitch
We have Marmite in Australia but it's not as popular as the Australian version, Vegemite, which is even stronger in taste. I guess us Aussies would love the Blacktop Jaguar then.
@TheDustyPanther The argument is not invalid. The Les Paul is one of my guitars of choice, and its pickup switch is placed in a much more sensible position that is more easily missed by a long down-stroke, ie. the top right-hand corner, although the switch of the SG is in an even more sensible position, away from the playing area.
No offense mr. Chappers, but I think, this was the best demo of all with Andertons. And I have to compliment your playing in this one :) seriously loved the blues licks you both used in part 1 :) and Love the guitars. Would Like to hear a more complex demo of that stratty :) luw it, wishing well, take care ♥ Addie
I got the Blacktop jazzmaster, and tried the jaguar one numberous times before choosing wich one i'll pick from the store, 2 years ago, as i just loved them both for their shape... The Jazzmaster is, unarguably, better ... Even with bashing the trem, it stays rock hard in tune (my poor american standard strat just puked of jalousy...) , the versatility between the two pickups is really awesome with a great warm and kind of SG'ish sort of tone... Trully, they're not the best pickups ever, but tell me if you know any guitar under 700€ that has some ... And the last and most important argument in favor of the jazzmaster is the playability... it feels ... smooth... just smooth... With .10 strings, it feels like playing a strat with .08.... BUT !!! Playing this guitar is like [put some barry white here] living with a girl... If you don't treat her right she'll make your life impossible, but stay nice with her, buy her some fancy stuff to keep the magic thing between you (like a Dimarzio's illuminator) and she'll be the best thing that ever came into your life ! Pick her Gently, she doesn't needs more to make some noise ! Anyways, a big thumb up for Rob and the Captain for showing this Guitars, Blacktop series guitars are just awesome for their price.
This new Jaguar is perhaps the pick of the new range .Although the guy here is playing really heavy ,I have heard this model being used effectively to play beautiful clean tones;even authentic Jazz ! The Strat has a lot going for it but the control knobs detract from it's looks in my opinion .
I went to the Cult concert on Friday night, their opening band was the Black Ryder, the lead vocalist played a couple nice Jaguars. That's the closest band/artist I've seen so far that I can remember that plays one.
Bought a Blacktop Jaguar a couple of weeks ago, they are beautiful guitars! Sound amazing no matter what tone you're playing through. And the neck is perfect. Don't think there's much else you can ask from a guitar? :P
Well Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo from Sonic Youth played Jazzmasters. As for Jaguars, I couldn't tell you of anyone else, besides me, who plays Jaguars.
Guitarists in the Band Stereolab played Jaguars frequently. So did Ride, I think. I personally prefer the Jazzmaster. It's a shame they remain not as popular as Teles or Strat. I'd argue that the Jazz and the Jag have much wider and better tonal ranges, though there's always plenty that it's either you have a Start, or nothing at all. For me, the Jazzmaster will always for me be the "Shoegazer guitar", In a good way of course.
I think Jonny Marr (sp?) is a Jaguar guy. And is that a Fender reverb sproing in the Thundercats theme music?? :D I've never heard it before; I'm a tad too young:/ ... And from the sound of it, I think I'm glad the U.S. doesn't have Marmite o.0 Great demos, guys! :)
@H2FScotty i wasn't referring to age. i was referring to purism. This series is not intended to sound like the standard Fenders at all, it's just a bunch of decent guitars with humbucking (not single-coil) pickups. As for the feel, these feel exactly like the originals (vintage design with a few minor tweaks). so i don't see where the problem is. a greater variety of more affordable guitars.
it's Vegemite in Australia, same shit basically, i happen to like it.... when used sparingly of course, I also like the sound of that jag, I wouldn't use it sparingly though... :)
@Nyberrg i'm pretty sure his Jaguar had alot of mustang parts, like knobs etc. he also liked the Mustand neck. so he asked Fender to make him a custom guitar and they made the JagStang, which he hated and hardly played, but they brought it out after his death. what a way to be remembered. with a shitty Jagstang. haha
Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth is known for playing the jaguar as well. I love these blacktop series guitars and have the FSR MF Blacktop Tele.
Watching Chappers playing Breath made me smile yet again..BRILLIANT SONG!
the Jaguar sounded fantastic, fit your play style very much Rob Chappers
Loved that part with Chappers and the Captain playing together!
Most notably, marr plays Single coil jags... The green Jag I hear is somewhere in South America in Hard Rock cafe or something like that...
Johnny Marr from the Smiths and the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist used them too.

I'm going to look at a 2010 Jaguar Blacktop tomorrow. I'm not familiar with them and had some questions and you answered all of them, cheers!

I would classify the quality of this review as being like Marmite also.
@JazzmastersFTW No, I'm pretty sure he plays a Jaguar as well. He bought a new one last year. It's black.
@VALKRYE2009 Holy crap you are good!! do you lip read?

Kevin shields, Stephen Malkmus, Johnny Marr, most of sonic youth, J Mascis, Thom yorke
Kevin Skaff - A Day to Rember

how many times did you guys tried to tune this guitar during the video ( between each scene if you will)?
Taylor York from paramore uses jaguars. He has the blacktop one live for one song in drop C.
