thats probably the best sounding clean sounds, I ever heard on youtube. The dirty tones are amazing, too, but I guess, thats mainly the awesomeness of the dual amp setup...
2020 and i ve had one of these guitars for about 5 years now and i have totally rediscovered it. Its now one of my main instruments it just screams tone and i use 010-52 on it. Sounds awesome live and gives you so much different tones. I hope fender will make these again because i want another one!
STILL today one of my favorite videos, about the tenth time I am back...and I didn't have any high expectations about that guitar. First 5-6 minutes didn't give much away - other than perhaps that the Jack Daniels bottle had been consumed ;), around 7 minutes something happened - the whole atmosphere changed - and after 9 minutes and "the gain" everyone was sold....gosh, WHAT a guitar :)
Ok I never seen y’all before , I just ordered one of these off reverb .. anyways this demo 1) put me at easy and 2) man I really enjoy this dude playing guitar, I’m watching the whole thing .
@overcastband Thanks dude I really appreciate that, truthfully I am very out of practice at the moment... I really need to focus on developing my own style again. The playing multiple styles thing is just something I had to learn for my demo/review/session work ;-)
2017 and im back again! pretty sure this was the chappers & the captain video i ever saw, also a big reason behind my purchasing one of these guitars as my first electric!
@wipers86 i guess he meant the single coil settings of the pawn shop guitar sounds better than engaging the whole humbucker which i agree with for clean tone
The Captain says you can't get neck and bridge pickups on a strat but my Player's strat has a button that activates the bridge pickups in the neck position (giving neck and bridge) and in the neck and middle position (giving ALL 3 SINGLE COILS!) It's nifty!
@stoicseneca How hard can it be? There are two humbuckers, which you can split into either single coil #1 or #1 or ful humbucker. That's three sounds per pickup plus three positions on the selector switch. So then you have six times three which adds up to eighteen. That's the long and the short of it...
So funny watching this video after watching their other ones. Part way through I was thinking "the way they are joking it seems like they have been drinking" and then I noticed the bottle of Jack.
great vid chappers i was actually looking into getting a 'stang but i ended up getting a prs se custom 24? any chance you will be reviewing that guitar?
@moucon - Thanks, I've always had a problem with certain scales and chords because I can't stretch my fingers far enough to get right up to the fret to get a nice tone. I've never had a guitar I've been totally comfortable playing, I've always got aches in my left hand and wrist if playing for anything over 30 minutes because of the stretching issue. It sounds like getting a 24" scale guitar would be my best bet.
I went through a period where I was picking up whatever got my attention and ended up with a couple dozen guitars. Stumbled across these two goofballs and realized HEY! I got one o' them Pawn Shop Mustangs in Lake Placid Blue when I was asking "what if I only had one guitar?" and this is the answer I came up with in 2011. I'm gonna have to dig it (out) and plug it (in)!
The last bunch of vids have sounded much much better to my ears. Did you guys mic things up differently, or do i just like the lastest gear you've demo'd better hahaha
Is it possible to put any sort of tremolo in this , im about to buy one and i always install tremolo , but i dont know how id put one in this with out routing out the back ?????
Iommi actually modified banjo strings for his high-E's because they didn't make 8 gauge strings yet. He's always played super light. It's a common misconception that people make when tuning down, they feel as though they need to slap beefier strings on their guitars, but it's rather counterintuitive. I crushed my hand in a brake press so I have to play in slack tuning a lot, and once I learned that it got a lot easier. It takes a very light touch, but you can get a lot of nuance.
If it's like every other fender, the neck should be a straight replacement if you get another fender neck. I measured my (short-scale) Mustang against my friend's Strat and the screws were placed at the same distance and the heel was the same size (at least as best as could be measured without removing both necks).
@dancingwithcalvin I mean that it would be far to little resistance for my fingers. I like to feel the strings when I play. I would probably slap 12s on that guitar if I were tuning it to Eb. But then, I'm neither fast nor technical. I'm more of a rhythm player who sometimes bashes out a slow solo.
Right up until today I have always despised Mustangs, Jaguars and Jagstangs....HOWEVER, I have just had my stubborn made up mind changed. That sounded awesome. And as a consequence I have switched on The Blackstar studio 20 and plugged in the Charvel and will be shredding in moments from now. Cheers Rob
Love all your reviews Chappers. I was also wondering, do you every play much jazz? i've been gettin into it recently and guys like Joe Pass are blowin my mind with win.
Hi everyone, I wanna buy fender pawn shop mustang, but i'm quite a tall guy and feel really uncomfortable to play short scale guitars, but i'm in love with that guitar and all the electronics... So do you think it would be possible to simply remove the mustang neck and place longer scale instead? Or things are not so simple as I think?
As someone who is still learning about guitars and guitar playing, does a 24" scale mean the frets are closer together? Or there's less frets? What does the length of scale determine?
I was gonna say about the quality ofthe sound, but i love how many pickup configurations that guitar has, just a shame everything is so caled down, i would love to have options like that on my strat
Great review. Very thorough on the switching. Much appreciated! Wish I could justify buying from you guys but I'm in the US. On a personal note, I'm turning 30 in July (yikes!) and I already decided that this (in Lake Placid Blue) was to be my next guitar after 17 years of playing (not that you can tell). By the way, if I picked Candy Apple Red, it'd feel like my mid-life crisis guitar, but I'm not there yet!
Hey Got hooked on you through Svee!! the master Airbrush Artist any whoo I have just tried a set of 11 bought here in the states the cost me 4.40 and i love the twang and pop they have..... who would have thought that some one would have taken Nigel T. of Spinal tap Literal? he had a marshal that went to 11 and now the strings do too!
I love the look on the Captains face when Rob is playing the gain stuff.... he has this look that says..."how CfkU ing amazing and how the hell does he do that :)
It's fairly standard, isn't it? I guess they figure if people are buying a short-scale guitar they want it to *feel* like a short-scale right from the get-go.. if you put 11-12s on it presumably it'd kinda feel like a Strat. Me, I'd put 12s on it or something. I'm a Jag player, but I like my guitar to sound in tune.
By far the most versatile and easiest to play guitar I've ever owned. I have a MIM version, and the pickups are fantastic, plus you can access the truss rod without removing the neck. You can find one of these used for around $500-$600 in the US.
Just bought a Squier Vintage Modified for my son and thought I'd check out what these sound like.... Holy Shit!! Gonna have to get one for myself now! ;-)
hey guys i love your reviews of all your stuff but i was wondering if from the goodness of your heart could you maybe do some bass reviews or bass gear reviews that would be really appreciated thanks a lot from a fellow Wiltshire dweller.
thats probably the best sounding clean sounds, I ever heard on youtube. The dirty tones are amazing, too, but I guess, thats mainly the awesomeness of the dual amp setup...
One of the most versatile Fenders ever made, I have two, one like this with the Enforcers, and one with Duncans
2020 and i ve had one of these guitars for about 5 years now and i have totally rediscovered it. Its now one of my main instruments it just screams tone and i use 010-52 on it. Sounds awesome live and gives you so much different tones. I hope fender will make these again because i want another one!
If u see this, what strings did u use and did u have to adjust the nut?
Using ernie ball strings, and used a simple set of guitar nut files

Thanks dude and welcome to my channel
@JK30 Yeah closer fret spacing, but the main difference you will feel is the softer feeling strings due to less tension ;-)
The greatest Little Girl Guitarist of all time!!!
@DontOrderTheSoup You should be able to substitute any four conductor humbucker and maintain the controls as they are.
@overcastband Thanks dude I really appreciate that, truthfully I am very out of practice at the moment... I really need to focus on developing my own style again.
The playing multiple styles thing is just something I had to learn for my demo/review/session work ;-)
Was never really sure what the perfect guitar was for me until this video, daym need me some mustang
The way he plays Smells Like Teen Spirit in Eb tuning is actually amazing!
2017 and im back again! pretty sure this was the chappers & the captain video i ever saw, also a big reason behind my purchasing one of these guitars as my first electric!

Early 90s i bought a 1969 Fender Mustang slapped a Gibson Humbucker bridge position..That guitar wailed Bloody Murder!!
Can you do a vid for the Black Dove Telecaster? Need to decide which to buy and you've done a video for this guitar!
So funny watching this video after watching their other ones. Part way through I was thinking "the way they are joking it seems like they have been drinking" and then I noticed the bottle of Jack.
@olipickrockgod Ha ha thanks mate, both can be achieved at MonkeyFest this July ;-)
When are you guys going to do a demo of the Pawn Shop Bass VI?
Will you be doing the Fender '51 of the pawn shop-series? :)
great vid chappers i was actually looking into getting a 'stang but i ended up getting a prs se custom 24? any chance you will be reviewing that guitar?

I would love to get my hands on all equip you got in this video, just sounds badass!!
Indeed! Hey i went back to 9s from 11s, i dig articulation.
I went through a period where I was picking up whatever got my attention and ended up with a couple dozen guitars. Stumbled across these two goofballs and realized HEY! Chappers would you do a review of the Epiphone les Paul traditional pro or les Paul custom I don't know which one to buy D:
im diggin the bottle of jack on the Amp
The last bunch of vids have sounded much much better to my ears. Did you guys mic things up differently, or do i just like the lastest gear you've demo'd better hahaha
That's a very good description of yourself
Billy Gibbons actually uses 7's, or at least that's what his tech said in his rig rundown.
some vibrato systems are attached to the top of the guitar, like a Bigsby and similar stuff. I probably want to research o nthat.
hendrix also used 8's.
"live in your eyes!!"
"Soft and Flexible" *looks at camera for 10 seconds.
Is it possible to put any sort of tremolo in this , im about to buy one and i always install tremolo , but i dont know how id put one in this with out routing out the back ?????

Hahahaha.... The Craig David reference was freakin' hilarious!!!

Love all your reviews Chappers.
I was also wondering, do you every play much jazz? i've been gettin into it recently and guys like Joe Pass are blowin my mind with win.
I love the almost empty bottle of Jack Daniels in the background.
The mustang like the jaguar are marmite guitar and imo i really like the sound of thus clean and distorted. I guess it is quite a preferred sound
.10-.52 work really well on Mustangs.
if you change the pick ups will the special controls become worthless?
I love the half empty bottle of Jack on the blackstar lol
most guitars in guitar shops have them on guitars cause the tension thicker ones have on the guitar if it sits for a while, you didnt know that?
@stoicseneca
because you can mute just one coil.
NOW THE GAIN!!! XD love that noise!!
i want this guitar soooo badly
As someone who is still learning about guitars and guitar playing, does a 24" scale mean the frets are closer together? Or there's less frets? What does the length of scale determine?
I was gonna say about the quality ofthe sound, but i love how many pickup configurations that guitar has, just a shame everything is so caled down, i would love to have options like that on my strat
@JK30 It sounds like the problem lies elsewhere, perhaps in technique?
@RobChappers Awesome btw I enjoyed this video.
Could you do some demos on effects pedals by boss and ibanez?
The Jack Daniel's bottle xD BTW very nice guitar, so dinamic.
Is it possible to put a classic Mustang trem bridge without making a hole in the body like, I guess, it's necessary on a Strat?
Fun video and also helpful. Great demo and guitar.
I´m tempted to break the bank...
You carry Jack Daniels on board, Captain?
Great review. Very thorough on the switching. Much appreciated! Wish I could justify buying from you guys but I'm in the US.

haha look at capns face at 10:20......he's loving the playing
Should I get the Pawn Shop or Kurt Cobain artist edition?
I'd love this kind of switching on a Jazzmaster...
I suggest just getting the Kurt Cobain signature Mustang or Jaguar. The guitar comes stock with everything you'll ever need for that kind of music.
I love how they left that Jack Daniel's bottle on top of the Blackstar Amp and how they are kind-of-drunk in this review.
really cool tones.
Can't believe he played Bon fucking Jovi.
I honestly didn't expect it to sound that mean and rock-ish!
@gitargris
what do you mean soft?
Loved the Bon Jovi OUTBURST mid video xD
Such a fantastic guitar!
Fender is to me the best company out there right now (besides your brand, Chappers) :P. They can do anything!
@wipers86 I´ve got an offer to buy an original 73 Mustang Competition via internet, how are the orig competition and the mustang pawn shop comparable?
you guys are the greatest!
I moved my speakers really close together to hear this bad ass stereo double amp sound. O.O
I'm 2 metres tall and play one - no problem. The scale length has nothing to do with the guitar's overall dimensions. My suggestion is try it out...
I love the look on the Captains face when Rob is playing the gain stuff.... he has this look that says..."how CfkU ing amazing and how the hell does he do that :)
@RobChappers - Thanks man, honored to get a reply from the Lord!
07:34 is that incubus you're playing?
Sounds like you had some tuning issues?
@CptCippe no i don't think it's limited
Pretty cool, but I personally would have preferred it with the phase switching as normal. That's really the Mustang's raison d'etre in my opinion.
By far the most versatile and easiest to play guitar I've ever owned. I have a MIM version, and the pickups are fantastic, plus you can access the truss rod without removing the neck. You can find one of these used for around $500-$600 in the US.
Is the neck thick like the kurt cobain mustang or is it thin?
chappers what should i get this or the cobain mustang ?
It comes standard with 9s? Is it for girls?
@RobChappers would come if i had the means to get to the uk
Buxom brunettes ....I'm sold
Yeah! Drop C is the power!
Just bought a Squier Vintage Modified for my son and thought I'd check out what these sound like.... Holy Shit!! Gonna have to get one for myself now! ;-)
@GibsonYui hell yeah!! she deffinatly needs one of these!!!
usually they come standard with 10-46's, which isnt much better, but still.
I love having 9s on this guitar. 11s in E standard is way too tough for my feeble skinny fingers...
...does that mean I'm a girl? ):
Can someone please explain to me how 15 pickup configurations plus "mute" is equal to 18 pickup configurations?
just my opinion but i think the single coil settings sound way better than the humbuckers
The necks are soooo good on these
is it a good guitar if i wanna play nirvana and white stripes stuff
hey guys i love your reviews of all your stuff but i was wondering if from the goodness of your heart could you maybe do some bass reviews or bass gear reviews that would be really appreciated thanks a lot from a fellow Wiltshire dweller.
