  • Welcome to the first episode in the series of "Villa Aroldi - An Italian House Restoration".
    In this episode we will take you on a tour of the weekend house we bought on a whim during the pandemic that we then decided to turn into our new home instead.
    Italy is full of historic gems in desperate need of saving, so we feel honored to be able to do our little bit and this is our journey to turn this old villa back to its former glory.

    Please, please don’t cut down that beautiful Loquat (Eriobotria japonica) tree next to the back of the villa. You could prune it or limb it up so that it wouldn’t encroach upon the villa.
    It’s evergreen, hardy and, probably the most valuable tree on the property.
    Good luck with your venture. Looking forward to watching the progress.

      Thank you for watching! No we wont, its gonna get pruned as its intruding on the extension but we would really like to keep it if we don't upset the roots once we start rebuilding the back of the house.

    Wonderful house. So much originality to it. If it was just cleaned and polished would be ready to live in.I would keep as much originality as possible. That pink tiled bathroom is simply amazing, just add vintage sinks and a footed tub. Thanks for the tour, your house is amazing.

      @VillaAroldi  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you!
      Unfortunately the pink bathroom is a later addition probably from the late 1950's or 1960's so we are not keeping it but we are keeping as much as possible of the originality but modernizing some things as we don't want to live in a museum.

    This is such an ambitious project and the location, home, and property are exactly what I imagine a charming historic Italian villa to be. What possibilities exist! It has that Art Deco essence that transports one to a different era. Looking forward to seeing your progress on restoring this beauty and the grounds. So many unique one of a kind features -especially those ceilings. The house looks like it has good bones structurally which must be encouraging that major restoration in shoring up foundations and repairing major structural issues in walls and roofs won’t be needed. The grounds, even in their current state and needing so much tender loving care are so verdant and interesting with all the mature growth and different spots to explore. God speed on your efforts.

    • @VillaAroldi
      @VillaAroldi  2 роки тому +4

      Thank you for your kind words!
      We are seeing a lot of potential everywhere and all in all the house is great structurally, there are some minor things we are gonna take care of in the kitchen where there are some vibrations but nothing major.

    So excited for your journey!
    And you are doing it right - do what you want to do and change it to a way that functions for your needs. People love to tell people what to do when you buy an old house.
    But what a gem! I adore the wooden doors especially.

    I love the vintage pink bathroom, but it's an acquired taste, as are so many things I suppose. It reminds me of the era so much. I'd add a towel heater and a stack of thick, white terry cloth towels and a hooks to dawn white robes, but in the window I'd add something Nouveau Art. I'd definitely get 30s vintage faucets or at least modern fakes. If you liked it, you could save a ton of time and money and even add a bath elsewhere on the estate.

    Please consider in the attic, over the second floor bath, put in a half bath, toilet & sink. It will make being in the attic easier.

      It's probably from the early 50's and in pretty bad condition, especially since the walls are not protected against humidity, hopefully we can use them somewhere else.

    It’s good to have bathroom on each floor even in the attic. Maybe en suite in the master bedroom. Please don’t forget about storage in every room. I live in Canada and have little bungalow with finished basement. In this house we have 3 bathrooms. 11 built in closets. Sometimes I think we should have more. I will follow your victories and struggles. In the end it will be worth it!

    Hello from Australia, I can see why you bought it on a whim. I look forward to seeing you uncover the beauty in this old girl. Wow, what a fabulous place! Those painted ceilings and the intricate tile work throughout the house is stunning!
    I don't think you showed the floors or ceilings in all the upstairs rooms, tho...I'd like to see more of that, please.
    When was this villa built?
    I'm fascinated by old stables....could we see more of that, too?
    The house has a pink hue theme. Those bathroom tiles are not replaceable since the method of glazing that makes them so unique is not done any more. That pink and black tile is classic!!! Please, please, keep it!
