we say: because of a stupid head, hands work. Before viewing, I thought they would do something really worthy of attention, but it turned out as usual... Stupid and tasteless, and I also doubt the integrity of the project after a couple of years, due to interference with capital fragments. the designer among these workers is a very untalented creature who has no taste, no sense of style, no sense of the integrity of the designed object.
This renovation is just heartbreaking. I particularly hated it when they enclosed those beautiful stairs. How could anyone destroy such a beautiful building with so much promise?
When I saw the arch beams, I was WOW, stunning, but then it went downhill from there!
Yeah, modern days rules and regulations ruin much of the charm of older buildings. Today you're required to use a certain amount of insulation to meet modern standards.

@@prettybrowneyez Better to install an electric lavatory if they want to save water but the grey water has to go somewhere whether attached to a sewer or septic system. Otherwise the house would not pass inspection as fit for habitation.
I started watching because I was expecting some beautiful renovation of an old building. I quickly saw that wasn’t going to be the case. I continued watching because it was like a train wreck that I couldn’t pull myself away from witnessing.
It was a beautiful antique house! Now it looks like a suburbian concrete pavilion !

To things to mention for re-roofing job:
The old rafters are bowing in quite significantly, so, wood is already given up its integrity, in such cases it is not about reinforcement, it is about replacement needed. Considering the choice to use heavy slates and additional window, it all seems to be too heavy.
You put an insulation between rafters in the attic without any counter-lattice and moisture preventing membrane on the outside. So, you insulate non-vented wood, where moisture, gathering on the cold side of the construction, will be trapped in, and will have no other way but damage the wood.
Good luck with this roof, I suppose you will need it.

The roof is strengthened with extra wood! So the roof is stronger than it was before!
Many roof problems ahead? Why did they skip the sheeting on the outside of the roof trusses? Just strapping and slate tiles? The insulation is right up against the roof tiles? Odd. Where I live, that would only invite trapped moisture. So sad that they cheaped out where it really matters... and as another said, the trusses themselves looked rather compromised? I am no builder. Perhaps I just don't understand...
In another life I was an insulation contractor and I thought boy they are going to have moisture problems big time.

My impression -- a lot of the original open space and airiness was sacrificed. Seems like a big house outside but a much smaller house inside. Nice looking though. The mix of modern and antique is very interesting. Time to drink the wine.

Yes exactly, they cluttered the house with too much detail. They completely ruined the spaciousness and openness of the place. I don’t think it’s good interior design at all.
Can't say I'm a fan of the renovation choices and results. I appreciate the effort, but man, the house had so much (potential) character and its all gone.

Meanwhile I agree with you on preserving the look of the house, most of the time the integrity of the house goes against. I am not sure how much it would had cost to keep the house in the old form given that most of the things used in the old days are not around anymore. I am not sure but I am just assuming from the large projects that I have seen.

В мансарде старый гипсокартон убрали,новый налепили 😅Там балки красиво смотрелись.
Как много гипсокартона! Из просторного, воздушного пространства ничего не осталось, одни коморки. Эх, жалко.
Даже не досмотрела до конца, так умудриться уничтожить такой красивый дом 😮! На этапе, когда спилили деревянные перила лестницы и обшили гипсокартоном , сразу стало все понятно

Раствор песок один. кровля камень с щелями, который течет. Вент зазора нет. Гидропароизоляции нет. Утеплителя нет. Полы фанера. Пздц ремонт😂
А еще и сортир типа "пудр-клозет"
Такой красивый камин был.а они туда страшную бочку-печку засунули,ффуу.. какие-то закоулки понастроили.такая прекрасная лестница была,сделали из нее туннель,тьфу..
Только последний участок дома сделали красиво,приятно смотреть.
Камин конкретно испортили. Нету вкуса

Myslím že takýto kus osobnosti a majestátnosťi, naplnený históriou, krásnym rezbárskym umením a priestranostou prerobiť na lôžkoví vlak je previnením voči architektúre. Myšlienka autora je dobrá, svojská, plná moderných prvkov a nápadov, ale výber budovy na takúto rekonštrukciu krajne nevhodný. Tá sieť je zaujímavý nápad no za to zrezané zábradlie a schody pre mňa nepochopiteľné.

ever. The old beams upstairs were gorgeous. Now they are covered up. There is nothing in that house now that is appealing, attractive, and in the same time period as when the house was built. What a waste of time and money!!

The work and effort put into this is highly commendable. But at the same time, part of me still feels that sooo much work was done to renovate his old mansion that it probably would've been better off just to build a completely new home from scratch instead.

This is absolutely awful!!! Did anyone advise them this was a house that had historical value, that should be preserved in character?! Their choices were simply rushed and most were ugly. Based on this , I would ever use their services to renovate a chicken coop!!!!!!!

It feels like the video and the text are from different features. There appears to be no preservation of original features, or sustainability, comfort, harmony, balance... In addition to being broadly inconvenient and impractical, must be dreadfully dark at night.
Really bad. Bathrooms are without sinks. Bed under that downward angle drywall. Shower is horrible, too small and WTF with that step up? You've chopped up floor space and stuck counters where they cannot be used. Stairs are a disaster. Net rope thing is a disaster waiting to happen.

Lesson here - never allow a construction company to dictate your design e.g. that shower curtain, that 'chipboard' floor, all of those beautiful hidden timbers and that caravan toilet!!! plus plasterboard that's painted without first being plastered why???

So much work and craftsmanship went into this. And yet I am so disappointed with the result. Why put the bed in that puny corner? Make it a center piece of the room. And the slate wall built under a perfectly healthy wall... If it's for only styling purposes, just put facade stones on top of the wall at the bottom... Takes 3 hours instead of days!

It is NOT my style either. Our home was built 29 years ago and has low flow showers, dual flush toilets, solar panels, LED lighting, a SEER 21 HVAC, etcetera and has a timeless design that won’t go out of vogue in a few years.

I found this video very difficult to follow. Couldn’t work out where in the house you were and mostly why you were doing some pretty strange things. From an architectural point of view no sympathy for the beginning structure…. Why not just build a modern house from scratch? Given up trying to watch!

So many bad decisions. One of the worst final results I've ever seen. Building wall in front of that enormous glass insert to put a small kitchen, then having a dark bedroom beside it, breaking those huge areas into pokey rooms, the list goes on. Terrible waste of the potential of a fairly big characterful house

Hi, i'm a friend of Etienne and Isa who renovate this house. Maybe it's not really clear in this video but the part with the small kitchen is not the main kitchen of the house. it is a room like a studio which is meant to be rent as an Airbnb.
The main kitchen of the house is next to the living room ( its not really visible either in this video, and was not finished at this point) and the all room kitchen + living room represent all the 1st floor of the old house so at least 70m2. (So not pokey rooms).
I advise you to watch their channel, i think they gonna release some new videos about those parts of the house.
If one day you have the chance to come in France to see the actual house, the feeling is way different in comparison with this video.

Terriblemente espantoso el diseño distribución y uso del espacio.
