Yes. This. I'm adhd and "high functioning" with high iq. It eventually got so difficult that I was going nowhere without help - diagnosed in January this year at 30 years old.

Yes, I went the medication route. It’s not something I like to discuss in depth though.

Just diagnosed at 64 - sought an assessment mostly cuz my family is pushing me to retire and I can’t imagine that!! Still have a successful IT career (just landed a new job to help build a team). My husband passed about 10 years ago and I’m realizing how much he was the glue for my life. With the diagnosis at least now I know why I’ve felt more and more “glueless” and why I can’t imagine life without the framework of a demanding career. But I also suspect I should figure that out before I’m 80 - lol!!

Speaking as a doctor, psychiatrists in general, are idiots, stuck in the psychiatry of the 1960’s

Who are these psychiatrists you people see ? ….Jesus Christ . They just assume that we’re stupid and lack the ability to take on complex subjects . That makes my blood boil in so many ways when I hear stuff like this .

Look for another psychiatrist. I am about to get diagnosed and I think I have also a pretty high IQ since nobody seen that I had ADHD. I wasn't straight As, but I was doing quite good in school considering that I could never do my homeworks and I was always late at school. So all the information I had for tests it was from my presence in class. I've got my exams 10 years after finishing highschool and also IELTS exam and pass it very well even though during study I couldn't focus for more than 10 min in a day. High IQ can hide very well ADHD especially for women/girls. Nobody thinks I can be innatentive if I remember things since I was 2 years old or less, but I lose my money, wallet, keys, ID anywhere as if they went through a black hole and I can't remember where did I put them. I changed my ID 4 or 5 times, because I've lost it somewhere. People see the results in school, not my ability to lose everything I own due to the mess in my head.

I'm at a crossroads where I've lived with insomnia, anxiety and depression for most of my life and had eating disorders when I was younger. I realised only last night that there were other symptoms that sound a lot like ADHD but cross over with the above conditions. Hearing this also makes me wonder because I was a "high achiever" at school but daydreamed through most lessons, ploughing through assignments last minute... thank you for sharing this! Have booked an appointment with my doctor now. Maybe this was the answer I needed. 😊

hi Beck!! i just wanted to hop in and say EVERYTHING you mentioned you’ve experienced is what i myself have struggled with since the age of 6. I’m now 19 and 11 months ago, was diagnosed with ADHD. I’ve spent the last half year learning to manage it. ADHD was the label that explained the unexplainable with all of my past and ever present medical issues. I might guess that I’m a bit younger than you but have a similar medical resume (if you will) as you! Hopefully this inspires you to pursue a more all encompassing, fitting diagnosis. It’s worth the time- promise

hope you got the answer! I related too well with your comment. I dealt with the same issues, yet was a high achiever. and I got diagnosed with ADHD a month after getting accepted into PA school. Life's difficult sometimes, but ADHD can be our superpower too!

I specifically sought out a video on this platform to help me understand my own ADHD. I was diagnosed as a kid but still spent my life being told I was either lazy where I didn’t have it. Now as an adult only recently coming to terms with this I am realizing that I am a highly functional adult with ADHD. I would see Memes on Instagram about people with ADHD and they talk about How they can’t do much or they’re doing poor their jobs and I am not finding that. Is it just because I’ve spent so long coping?

Im waitong for my assessment for undiagnosed adhd. It's obvious i have ADHD but at 34 it feels the opposite of a blessing. I hope getting help with medication and coping skills i can actually use my brain fully. Feel like I'm powerless a lot of the time to function properly which burns me out into a deoression state. ADHD feels like a curse.

I had academic success but not carreer success. I struggle at work because I don’t perform at the same speed of the average worker and it is supposed that I have to hand out more work than I currently do in a working day, but the Quality of my work is good. This difficulty makes me end up in a low tier employee performance, with a low salary band and no possibiliy of future promotions and all because of adhd. I am currently under treatment but no matter all the strategies that I use it will never be enough.

Adhd with autism, Diagnosed with it last year(2021) at 30 y/o which they also notice through journals and interviews that ive had it undiagnosed since Early age, Im a certified electrician and HVAC technician and im working as a technician at Electrolux, I have an IQ of 130 but Still struggle with somethings, I have No problems with figuring out how to fix or program an appliances which some see as very complicated stuff, but I struggle with paperwork overall since I have a tendencie to either Read so fast that I miss Words, read everything wrong or I just forget something I just read 1 min Ago.
Adhd doesnt make you stupid or low gifted, it just makes you super on some stuff and not so super on other stuff.

TLDR; this is an ad. While it does not provide substantive information or insight, it does acknowledge that there are lots of high functioning adults with AHDH. Though that’s really not news. There are so many ADHD professionals (maybe not so many accountants, but definitely lawyers). Give a creative, intensity-seeking, dopamine-deprived brain an interesting problem and a time crunch and it can generate all sorts of solutions and insights, and produce fantastic work.

Yes sir, Individuals with ADHD with enough iq can get through...yea get through , in rare cases excel also at everything but I don't know it will be very difficult..... that's why get through is manageable..it's more functional than other conditions.

I am a 17 year old with high functioning adhd I’ve had a back for animals and learning about stuff but I’ve went to the Internet saying if people with adhd are smart and the Internet said: People with ADHD aren't smart
This is almost entirely false. Actually, lower IQ isn't specifically related to ADHD. People with ADHD are often perceived to have low intelligence because they work differently than the rest of the population. I read this and it made me feel stupid for thinking I was smart because of having adhd but just right now I’m starting to feel as if this is for parenting. My mom has her mind blown and there’s a sub that scans people while growing up no joke he knows most of everyone and he tells me every time that I’m so smart though I think I do have a high iq but I don’t think my iq is as good as Stephen hawkin or Einstein but if anything I just want a decent amount. I also depict monsters like vampires or nagas or the other name for it that for some reason can’t find on the Internet. And I find the depiction very different from what they are in the books like instead of a snake human it’s more of a worm sapient as big as a small child or at least the size of a tall human their size can be inconsistent due to the fact they’ve gone through a lot with the Presbyopia seeing these worm folk. Vampires are much more monstrous looking then their romantic counterparts they are the same size as the biggest bat their is or slightly bigger to make it more realistic their mouth is separated making the jaw go into two most folk that had seen vampires had said frequently that their teeth are like spider fangs at least how they show the fangs because they eat with a separated jaw

For an alleged 139 IQ person you should proofread your grammar. Your psychiatrist is not specialized test taker. He is specialized in administering or giving tests; not taking them 😂
