@@Aerzon1v1 You're correct. It's literally their 2nd most sold knife currently behind the PM2. Nobody is sleeping on this knife, but people are sleeping on SPY27. Amazing steel, both my G10 & LW Manix 2s are in it.

For years I stayed away from #Spyderco, I just thought they looked strange. Alot of Spyderco owners do an underside middle finger flick, I don't. Your review is the best on #UA-cam.
The lightweight versions are great! It's interesting hearing such a direct comparsion and personal use cases. I have an OG manix2 with the saber ground 154cm steel. Personally, I love the steel and haven't had any real downside to the grind. I do enjoy full flat in spyderco's smaller blades because of how it seems to keep the rest of the leaf shape out of the way. I have found that I like the g10 handles with full steel scales because of the extra jimping and hardiness. I end up using this knife a lot for simple gardening and yardwork and the extra grip thickness and jimping make it very easy to handle with gloves and I've never felt like I couldn't hack some heavy tomato plants when needed. Obviously the lock design and spyderhole work great with gloves regardless and it's good to hear that the lightweight handles seem solid in outdoor work. I like the sturdiness, personally, of the g10 version for outdoor work, but the lightweight makes a lot of sense for longer hiking or backpacking. That being said, small hands beware, that grip is a beast. I have average size hands and it's a grip filler!
I bought a Manix 2 LW s110v because of this review. The way the blade swings freely with the button pulled back makes it very fidgety. I have very large hands and the handle feels great in all positions. The point is frighteningly acute as well. It is a really amazing design.

Thank you for this video, saw this as soon as you posted and bought my first Spyderco just based on your review of this knife. I have carried it for a year now and it quite honestly is the favorite pocket knife ever. The Manix 2 LT is so good and it disappears in the pocket.
Spyderco knives have been my goto for a couple decades. My current favorites are the PM series (2s and 3s) and the various Dragonfly versions, IMO one of the best EDC knives ever made. I think I have 6 or 7 of them now, going back to the original design. Curious what you think of the Dragonfly, and if you've ever done a review on them.
Great pick. I go to the Manix 2 XL myself. The lock is so simple, smooth, and solid. Handle ergs are extraordinary. Fav is the S90V and carbon fiber scale version. Only niggle is how wide it is when folded, really makes it difficult to stick your hand past it into your pocket. Considering a belt pouch for it.

This is a dumb question but twice I’ve been cut on the palm of my hand with a manix. I have to keep the butt of the knife on the palm in order to pull the lock down but the blade will nick me. Where do you keep it in your hand?
I’m digging the Manix 2 love! Seriously was my favorite folder, hands down. I would love to see them make the mid lockback again but with a a saber grind. That would be the best in my opinion.
I have a Manix 2 in S30V and G10 and LOVE it. I’m really really wanting one of these lightweight’s in the SPY steel. I can’t believe that with knives this nice at this price that people still buy garbage ass benchmades for much more money and half the quality.
Nice review, I've had my Manix 2 lightweight in SPY27 around a year now and still loving it for EDC and around my house. I just don't like weight dragging my pants down my skinny ass and this fits the bill perfectly. I added a glowing paracord snake knot lanyard and super bright glow tape on bottom/base back section (tape is on Ebay/Amazon and allows visibility till dawn from nothing but ambient light, super helpful if dropped in the woods for example). Have not even sharpened yet given my relatively infrequent use and it is about time to touch it up...anyone know the angle on this? I intend to do this justice when I go to the stone. Overall I agree with the glowing reviews, and the lightness is an absolute joy to feel given how capable it is. PS I agree with the Nick Shabaz (sp?) review in that I filed the hole edge to smooth it out to avoid being cut when using it to flick open. If they could smooth this out at the factory it would be sweet. Oh, and the slim profile overall makes for easy removal/replacement in pocket, and looks less bulky riding there... PS Anyone have a favorite sharpening method with this in particular?
I also gravitate towards the lightweight versions of spyderco knives. The bi-directional handle feels more ergonomical, comfortable, grippier, and warmer. Right now my favorite is the endela and a close second is the new salt with the lc200 steel.
The manix is the ultimate user. That blade geometry is spot on. I love spy27 it can take a beating. However I got the lw manix in rex45 now, it no diffs everything .
I have this Manix. Mostly agree and love it. The blade is a razor laser! The choil is big enough for my fingers and it keeps my finger of the sharpened part of the blade, this is the case with most choils where the meat of my finger ends up too close to the edge. Wire clip is a win! The only issue I have is lock release doesn't have enough throw (bottoms out) and the blade ever so slightly hangs up. Not bad enough for me to send it back but its annoying. I was hoping after 2 months of use it would break in or something but no.
Also an important thing I want to add that someone has pointed out in a forum is that the manix 2 has 2 screws near the pivot whereas the xl only has one therefore is prone to blade play
8/4/2022 broke my spiderco cherry and purchased a manix 2 . Dude I was glad to see they sell scales and a backspacer . Idc of its heavy . It will be sweet . What color scales ?
I too like the manix platform and I own roughly a dozen of them in all different steels many exclusives and sprint runs but I sometimes find it to be too large when I'm wearing gym shorts or sweatpants so the new sage maxamet is absolutely perfect for those occasions and I even swapped out the scales from my old S30V sage with carbon fiber over to my maxamet one and now have a Carbon fiber maxamet sage it is one badass little knife and I cannot stop carrying it lol
Also I'm quite partial to the para3 and own even more of those! I've gotten one in every steel I have found available and I find the cruwear sprint to be my favorite or the lightweight rex45 when I really want it to disappear into my pocket...
I have an all black cpm s30v manix 2, and I just bought some burnt bronze AWT scales with a blue flytanium cage. There's already an anodized blurple lynch clip on there. I think the bronze scales are going to look so nice and really make that blue cage pop.
I have this exact knife and the blade is so stiff that it can't be flicked open. Like the pivot is to tight. If you loosen the pivot the blade wobbles and it still can't flick open. You definitely can't drop it shut. You have to push it open and closed. I don't know what to think or how to fix it.
I have other Spyderco knives that I love and am considering a Manix 2. On my Benchmade Super Freak, I can operate the similar locking mechanism with one finger, which I like. Can the locking mechanism on the Manix 2 be operated with one finger? Thanks and great review!
G10 and s110v version here. It's a great tool but it's not an edc knife for me. It's just way too big. The LW version you have would be better in different ways but it's still too big for edc for me. I keep things in both pockets and with the manix I cannot get into my pockets without taking it out and that's not idea. But Its a great user and I've used it for some big tasks that it excelled in like cutting carpet etc. I prefer a endura or Delica slimmer size for edc.
I had one for quite awhile. the translucent blue in bd1 steel. i liked it a lot. was a great knife. loved the blue too. but found i didn't carry it much..think mostly was the size. just a little to big overall for me...something just didn't do it for me. i sold it to buy more knives lol.
I’m wondering about the size, too. I carry a Sage currently, which has a very similar profile but is smaller. I am not a fan of the wire pocket clip, which my Sage has. But, I see some of the Manix 2’s come with the solid clip.
The Manix 2 in BD1N LW is my most used knife. I like the feel of the S30V, G10 Version more and my Para2 is awesome, but still, the Manix2 LW is the most useful. Good vid.
Like most people, I find the spydercos hideous but I had to give it a try because people in this community seem to worship them. I started off with the tenacious and absolutely hated it. Quality was cheap and action was so tight, I didn’t find any pleasure using it in anyway, especially when I have budget knifes half the price that are so much better. Bad first impressions but I gave it one more chance and bought the manix2, and had almost the same experience. Crap quality and action was so tight, I can’t even flick it. Idk if I just had bad luck with this brand but I’m more happy with my $30 budget knives than this. Especially compared to American made knives in this price range such as my bugout and deka 2, this doesn’t even compare in my book
The Tenacious is a budget knife and definitely not up to the regular Spyderco standards…as far as a Manix not being flickable out of the box, some knives just take a little time to break in. My last Griptillian took a little while but now it’s very fidget-friendly. My Manix 2 LW was pretty good out of the box but I did put a little thin/lightweight oil on the blade near the pivot.
I love mine. The only problem I have with it is I've broken the tip off twice. I can't remember what I did the first time when I broke the very tip of it off. It wasn't anything crazy, I was shocked that it actually broke. And then I further broke the tip off when I was cutting the sheathing off of a welding lead. So there was about a quarter to 3/8 in broken off the tip of that knife in two separate incidents. It's currently back in Spyderco being reground.
So originally I bought the manix 2 in g10 s20v because I wanted a hefty sturdy knife like my para two. As much as I loved that knife there was just something that didn't fit me well so I ended up purchasing the lightweight version in CTS-BD1N. Let me tell you the lightweight hasn't left my pocket since it came in. Love them both but the lightweight Just makes it into my pocket more.
I recently picked up the Manix 2 LW screw together model, and I wanna change the lock button to a titanium one, but I haven't found any videos on how to do so with the new screw together LW. I've never taken apart a lock system like this, so I don't wanna just wing it, so I'm just chillin now, waiting on that video to happen, then I'll change all my hardware to black titanium.
I love my Paramilitary 2 but if I had to choose just one it would be the Manix 2 LW. I love the wire pocket clip and that it has more belly than the Para 2. Aaron 13% of us are lefties 😉👍
I have the original manix 2 lightweight with the rivets. Black FRN handles with the dlc coating. I can’t believe how much knife it is for its weight. I do wish it had the updated torx screws though.
I’m not a lefty but any of the Spyderco knives that have this lock (ball bearing) or a back lock are fully ambidextrous…a great option with a back lock and great steel (CTS XHP) is the Chaparral.
I can tell you it’s great, the action on mine was super smooth out of the box- it comes with a ceramic ball bearing installed from the factory in place of steel.
Two things i don't like about the manix 2 lightweight is first the width of it. It's a kinda big knife but yea the handle is basically the best there is. Second thing I don't like is that closing the knife with the ball bearing lock is uncomfortable. It's a bit rough to pinch back. Axis lock is way more comfortable and fun to use
I have many Spyderco knives & the Manix-2 & Native-4 are the two designs I have more of than any other! Going to check out this SPY steel some day & it'll probably be this one!
I've never really liked the looks of most Spyderco knives. I've known they're good, but I think they're too expensive. I saw a Manix 2 lightweight for sale at a more reasonable price with SPY27 and decided to buy it. I'm so sold on this knife it's unbelievable. I love almost everything about it. The ergonomics for my hand are incredible. The SPY27 is very tough. The only drawback for me is the riveted construction. Other than that, it's become my very favorite knife out of many!!!
I agree-as the owner of around forty mid to high ends, the mannix lgtwt is hard to beat-personally,I prefer the kapara,or the military 2,but the're both twice the price
That's awesome! Over the years I keep falling back on a flat grind because it seems to be the best all around for a pocket knife./ utilities vs survival haha
The first thing is to thank you for your great work on the channel, I have a question: what is your opinion of the version with S110V steel? Is it recommended or should I ask for a day off work to be able to sharpen it when necessary? …thank you Erin 😉
I’ve sharpened S110v…it’s not bad but I would recommend a lower grit option to start…if you’re using something like a KME get the 50 grit Beast diamond hone…if you’re using something like the Spyderco sharpmaker I’d get the diamond or cubic boron nitride stones. These just help to develop the burr much more quickly and lead to a better edge overall.
Can you tell me how easy it is to service these versions that you are displaying on this video. Are they easy to maintain? How easy is it to take the scales apart if you need to service something or change one of the mechanisms.
I'm here to see if GT can provide me the reasons I think I already have for getting a manix 2 LW Blacked Out, as I work in a job where visibility is a concern and can't carry a fixed blade but still have to make contact with people of unknown intentions in seedy areas (security patrol) I feel like this video has a no frills approach as to why I should So thank you kindly
I have owned several manix 2's. My current is a S30v blade i custom etched a homone line like a katana has. I also have custom flytanium scale on the right side and orange honeycomb g10 left scale. I also have the titanium switch and i stonewashed all the hardware to give it a rustic look. Everytime i think about getting a new knife i realize i have the perfect one :) O also i have the skeletonized liners:)
I haven’t bought one yet partly cause I don’t care for BD-1 steel. It gets sharp but dulls real fast. I have a Spyderco cat in BD1 and it’s just ok. I don’t feel I’m a steel snob either. I really like Benchmade’s 154cm. I believe Spyderco switched to BD1-n steel witch should be worth a try.
@@gideonstactical I do love the lock on the manix. You get Spy27 steel you get into par2 para3 price range? That’s why I haven’t jumped on board... yet!
I have the Manix 2 in BD1N and it's pretty solid. Holds an edge and performs pretty well. Yes, the higher-priced steel's do hold an edge a bit better but I don't feel that the Spyderco BD1N is that far behind. it's way better than D2, AUS-8 etc. I think BD1N is a good balance between cost and performance.
@@mikeadams4605 Sounds good I like Spyderco’s vg10 better than there BD1. BD1-N is definitely an improvement. I’m not looking for 20cv, s100v or similar just better than AUS8 for $100.
@@DamionJR4923 I would agree that VG-10 is slightly better than BD1N but it's pretty close. Both produce a sharp edge, are pretty durable, and can be sharpened pretty easily. I honestly struggle with spending more money on more premium steel. Even some of my budget knives with inferior steel are performing pretty well.
I learned the hard way that edc knives can 100% be TOO SMALL. Anything 3 inches or less is simply a pain to use, including the handle being uncomfortably small. Manix 2 is 100% the perfect size as is the Paramilitary 2. Para 3.. too small. Native.. too small. Delica.. too small.
Not quite sure I know some of these in the past I’ve been pinned in, so unless they have Torx screws to remove and disassemble you’d be stuck with the handles you bought.
I’ve never purchased a Spyderco knife. I’m sure they’re great knives, but I could never get past the look of the thing. The blade makes me think of the cartoon Spy vs Spy.
@Xyz It’s just one of those things where ya take a liking to something and you stick with it. I really don’t see anything high end about the knife materials that would command such a price tag. They have a following.
@Xyz The last folder I purchased and edc was the Cold Steel 4 Max Scout. The one before that, Cold Steel XL Voyager. They are well built, steel liner, lock-back folders. Great value and price.
@@wiliamwidlacki7459 That’s hilarious. I just looked up Spy vs Spy. It’s amazing how the Spyderco blade resembles the cartoon. It really is like I had it pictured in my memory.
I liked the manix2 enough that I got 2 of them in maxamet 1 with lynch deep carry and one with stock clip I use my stock manix2 to cut carpet and it cut better and faster than my dedicated carpet knife it's the perfect edc or work knife
They recently released a screw together model in CTS BD1N steel. I picked one up and wanna put titanium hardware in it, but haven't found a video on a step by step process, I haven't taken apart a lock system like this and don't just wanna wing it. But go ahead and splurge, it comes in a screw together model now, no worries.
Should one of these models open, close and lock release as loosely as yours is doing in this video? I purchased one and it is extremely stiff. Is there an adjustment that I need to know about?
Look how long this knife has been going . I got one in 2022 and liked it immediately . I wasn’t even looking . It just said hold me bud . Then it said spidey flick me . Then I said I ll take it after choking up on the handle and taking a minute to look it over while the salesman was breathing , lol . I didn’t even know I was getting it.
I have a blacked out g10 model in 154cm love it even with the heavier materials though I like the feel of the non FRN spydercos.
Also an important thing I want to add that someone has pointed out in a forum is that the manix 2 has 2 screws near the pivot whereas the xl only has one therefore is prone to blade play
i ve watched this video a few times and love it. need another video abot manix 2 lw . how many did you have? best regards
Just one right now
Its time for a new Spyderco Shaman Spy 27 review. Cant wait. Cheers mate
8/4/2022 broke my spiderco cherry and purchased a manix 2 . Dude I was glad to see they sell scales and a backspacer . Idc of its heavy . It will be sweet . What color scales ?
Love mine! Except it’s the m390 version with copper scales and copper ball lock. Heavy and love it!
Inflation has really hurt knife prices. The cheapest Manix 2 I could find was 127$. When I hear prices from a few years back it makes me sick.
True but check out the BLADEHQ Exclusive M4 Steel Manix 2 For $116!!?? Here is the link~ shrsl.com/3yckw
If I get another Manix 2, it'll prolly be the Maxemet version. I don't have a knife with that steel yet.
I just ordered that blue on in a flash sale. Most ive spent on a knife so far
I think you’ll be happy with it. And I hope it serves you well.
@@gideonstactical thank you very much. You seem to enjoy yours. Ive heard mixed things on spy steel but i think ill be very happy. Awesome knife
@@gideonstactical just noticed it has rivets.l
@@michaelgeorge5197 New ones have screws.
Really curious to know your thoughts on the Shaman. As a man with large hands too, I struggle to find knives that I enjoy.
Thx I’ve had a hankering for a newer Spyderco and I have been looking at that Manix version thx 😎🇺🇸🤙🏼
Yes! Depending on finger strength/dexterity. Stiff button but should loosen up with time.
I just bought a 'Manix II' fitted with the CTS BD1 N alloy. ¿Can anyone tell me something about the tenacity of this alloy?
Awesome!!!!
What sharpening system do you use? Flat blade grinds can be tricky?
I'm waiting for them to do a Manix LW in K390 with a DLC coated blade.
Just curious if you have ever handled a shaman? I have one in Elmax and the new 15V and I love it
I love my Paramilitary 2 but if I had to choose just one it would be the Manix 2 LW.
Aaron what are your thoughts on spy 27 ?
I was trying to figure out what my next EDC would be because I'm a lefty this one might be it Thank you much Love the video 👍
I’m a lefty too, i EDC a manix 2 XL. It’s been my favorite for years.
I'm lefty & this one is great.
I’m not a lefty but any of the Spyderco knives that have this lock (ball bearing) or a back lock are fully ambidextrous…a great option with a back lock and great steel (CTS XHP) is the Chaparral.
Great video. I have a lightweight cspy 27 and black blade bd1. Love them both. Do you have an opinion about the Manix 2 XL?
Im thinking about getting the magnacut salt version.
I can tell you it’s great, the action on mine was super smooth out of the box- it comes with a ceramic ball bearing installed from the factory in place of steel.
It’s amazing, I love mine.
Ya it is such a great blade.
Yep I always said they're overpriced before & after buying my Para3 & I looked up recently, the price for it skyrocketed since I've bought mine.
I agree-as the owner of around forty mid to high ends, the mannix lgtwt is hard to beat-personally,I prefer the kapara,or the military 2,but the're both twice the price
Is it just Pinned together without Torx Bolts? It looks like Pins only except for the pocket clip.
Do any of those emerson wave addons work on this knife?
That's awesome! Over the years I keep falling back on a flat grind because it seems to be the best all around for a pocket knife./ utilities vs survival haha
mine arrived 3 days ago. I love it but the spring is stiff, to the point where I need both hands to disengage the blade. any suggestions?
That doesn’t sounds right return it for a new one 👍
Are you still using it?
Yes still in the collection
Can you tell me how easy it is to service these versions that you are displaying on this video. Are they easy to maintain? How easy is it to take the scales apart if you need to service something or change one of the mechanisms.
I'm here to see if GT can provide me the reasons I think I already have for getting a manix 2 LW Blacked Out, as I work in a job where visibility is a concern and can't carry a fixed blade but still have to make contact with people of unknown intentions in seedy areas (security patrol) I feel like this video has a no frills approach as to why I should
So thank you kindly
I have XL hands and the FRN edges always feel slick on my calloused mitts. Just does not work for me sadly.
Awesome video, but weird question, what mm guard do you use on your beard trimmer?? That length is really nice hahah!
I usually a number 3 and the Goatie area and a 2 on the sides
I agree that the BD1 those about as fast AUS-8. This spy27 Steel hold his edge better to be sure.
I have a Spy 27 duo…the Manix 2 featured here and a Para 3 LW…both excellent knives.
After watching your vid this morning I decided to carry my S90V Manix instead of my 20CV BM Grip.
I want to find a Manix 2 at a reasonable price. I would if it didn't have it put G10 scales on it. Hopefully sometime this year I will find it.
I learned the hard way that edc knives can 100% be TOO SMALL. Anything 3 inches or less is simply a pain to use, including the handle being uncomfortably small. Manix 2 is 100% the perfect size as is the Paramilitary 2. Para 3.. too small. Native.. too small. Delica.. too small.
Just bought the bladeHQ exclusive mint green, black coated blade, in CPM-M4 for 135$
Can you get the lightweight and upgrade to premium handles down the line?
Not quite sure I know some of these in the past I’ve been pinned in, so unless they have Torx screws to remove and disassemble you’d be stuck with the handles you bought.
Thanks for responding! Thinking of getting the regular manix 2 so let the search begin lol
I just got the mystic green Manix 2 LW, 20CV, and it’s awesome. I still carry my Griptilian as my EDC, but this would be number 2
Oh man thanks a lot...now I can't get that spy vs spy image out of my head!!!! Lol
@@wiliamwidlacki7459 That’s hilarious. I just looked up Spy vs Spy. It’s amazing how the Spyderco blade resembles the cartoon. It really is like I had it pictured in my memory.
@Xyz That’s another great Cold Steel knife that I’ll no doubt pick up someday. The other one I like and would like to get is the AD15.
I liked the manix2 enough that I got 2 of them in maxamet 1 with lynch deep carry and one with stock clip I use my stock manix2 to cut carpet and it cut better and faster than my dedicated carpet knife it's the perfect edc or work knife
I've been looking for cruwear and M4 forever, they are discontinued :(
This guy might like knives as much as us. Respect
The prices went up
The rivets are a deal-breaker. I absolutely love the Manix 2! ...with a deep carry clip and metal ball cage.
You should be able to tweak the screws the blade pivots around and loosen it up. I’d use some blue lock-tite on it
Look how long this knife has been going . I have so many knives I know a good one when I’m holding it right away and I look at it to see the fit and finish this one felt right to me that’s how I ended up with it. Like the guy below me says no ragerts 😂😂
I love the manix lightweight but rivets bug me
