Buy the Caly3.5 & review it before it's gone forever! I feel like you will REALLLLY like it, as it fulfilled nearly every issue you addressed as to why you "didnt like" this manix. I am an avid Spyderco collector, the Manix is one of my all time favorite models to date. I do however disagree in the sense that.. I feel I can easilyyy highly recommend "Manix2 LW" to any non-knife-obsessed individual who is just looking for a very solid, user-friendly EDC. Good video! It was nice to see a change of review style from someone I've never watched before! 👌I subd. ✌🖤🔪🔪🔪

Love your passion, and in depth thought process when it comes to knives. I have a decent collection, and just picked up a manix 2 lightweight, it's actually in my mailbox right now, picking it up tomorrow. Tried to grab the G10 version but just couldn't find one. Just subbed.
Major influencer… like Metal Complex perhaps… he likes his $400+ knives which most of us plebs can’t afford… FRN is as strong or stronger than g10 … just because it’s cheaper to manufacture doesn’t make it bad!
I have this one and the manix 2. Id dish out the few extra bucks and get the manix2 with g10 scales. I dropped the lightweight and the scales were significantly damaged from pocket hight.
if they made the spy27 version with the g10 handle and liners, i’d jump on it immediately. i really wanna try spy27 but i don’t really want a knife with no liners. i have a hogue deka with g10 and no liners but it’s super thin and small so it doesn’t bother me there.
I got the original Manix 2 LW in translucent blue a few years ago, back when they were still 80 bucks. It's ok, the BD1 steel is a little underwhelming if I'm being nice. I don't think it's worth more than $45, not with today's competition. I cannot fathom paying $140 for this version. Love you, Spyderco, but damn.
Dunno, like the color, but I'm on the "it's ok I guess" side. I think it's the"perception of value" that gets me. Had it been that price for the G10 skeletonized liners it would be on my buy list.
Hey man really good video, i don´t feel like you talked enough about the steel though. Although i have no testing done on it yet i think the answer that it feels like S30V or 154cm is not enough. Are you talking about the edge retention? If yes how is the edge stability or the thoughness or sharpening campared to those steels, you know what i mean? No offense though, i really enjoy your videos. I will give you a shoutout in my next video if i remember, hopefully you can break the 1000 subscriber mark soon, because you defenetly deserve it and always form your own opinions on things, and that´s like you said rare in the knife community.
I am mainly talking about edge retention and sharpening. I don’t do many impact cuts with my knives, so I can’t say much about stability. I would suggest watching Outpost 76’s video on Spy27, because his tests are way more scientific than my usage. Thanks for watching and your support👍
@@Jeepdriver75 no it just looks like it on the pivot but there’s a collar molded into the FRN which prevents the blade from being removed. they changed that but only just recently.
I would suggest looking at Kershaw. I have the leek in that price range which I really like, and I feel like the dividend, bareknuckle, and knockout would be some solid options but I haven’t tried them. Buck has a lot of knives in that range, but I only have some of their cheaper options. I hope I was helpful, thanks for watching
I like the Teal color way, but the steel seems to perform similar or slightly below S30V which makes it underwhelming. I wanted it S35VN level or higher performance. The information is from Knife Community, tested by several YT knife testers.
Even though it is slightly under S30V, I really don’t think anyone will be able to tell a difference. S30V is one of my favorite steels, and my only negative with SPY27 is how it’s not doing much different. Thanks for watching
S35vn also has slightly less edge retention than s30v so, to me, that puts this steel right up there. Spy-27’s goal is “to keep the ball rolling” in the development of new steels, to quote Eric Glesser. I agree that cutting performance isn’t necessarily special, but it makes up for for it in sharpening, and it’s relatively unique chemistry. A few people have said that if you value good sharpening characteristics Spy-27 is a pretty good choice.
I don’t take apart my knives much and I haven’t really need to clean this one. A good way to clean a knife like this that you can’t take apart would be to use some water and dish soap, compressed air, and a couple drops of oil
I dont want to expect having to rework a $160 knife made from $2 of materials... Your paying for assembly and minimum handwork and basically nothing else.
@@motoknivesandgunsbyjt It seems certain distributors still have pinned versions. Gp knives has them in spy27 and s110v bd1n with screw together construction. Still a nice knife though 👍🏻

It's 130 for a Manix 2 LW in Rex 45 at GP Knives.
Almost gave a thumbs down when you said they don’t fit in skinny jeans. 😅 thank God you corrected yourself.

I feel like that’s the case with a lot of spydercos. They are worth it to me, but it’s hard to suggest them for other people. Thanks for watching
Really good review thanks man
Thanks for watching
Do you have a Civivi McKenna by chance? Or any front flippers for that matter. I ordered a McKenna and just wondered your thoughts.
I haven’t, and I’ve never handled a front flipper before, so I’m if no help to you😂 Thanks for watching
Harder steels = harder to sharpen leading to scratches
Ive been wanting that manix 2 but i havnt had the funds.

Also recommend checking out Spyderco’s forum. There are a few Spy-27 dedicated threads.
Hopefully i didn´t get across as mean. Your videos are really good man, i am just on a steel nerd rage lately :)
No your good, I actually appreciate it. Without a little criticism, I can’t realize what I’m doing right/wrong
the lw version sucks because you can’t take it apart so you can’t upgrade or fix anything on it.
They've been screwed together for a few years now.

Pinned construction like the other light weight?
The body screws are pinned but the pivot isn’t
@@itsaknifestyle8482 thanks just thought everyone should know.
I just ordered this not noticing it had rivets..
The new ones should be screw together construction, as you've probably already noticed.
I would suggest the CJRB pyrite for a new knife guy they are about 50 and button locks are fun especially the Wharncliff version
Sounds like “Florida Man” UA-camr
