- When the Steenkamp family was brutally murdered on April 6th, 2012, people in the area assumed it was a farm attack. Their 15-year-old son, Don, was lucky to have made it out alive, but when the details of his story started not adding up, authorities realized that the killer was closer than they originally thought.

South Africa seems to be lenient on murderers. Oscar Pistorius got of easy too. His victim's last name was Steenkamp too.
They are lenient. Life sentence here is 25 years, after which you get released.
Oscar is FREE now.

I was 28 when I stumbled across my adoption papers, and while hurt, I didn't think to kill my whole family (who ALL knew and had joked that I was adopted while I was growing up)! 🤦♀️ My parents had no intentions to ever tell me, and they were upset that I even found them by accident!
They should have told you. On the other hand my ex and her twin sister were treated like outcasts and always reminded that they were adopted. No contact even today.
I was young when my parents told me, I can’t remember at what age but I think I was around 12 or maybe younger.
The thought of hurting them or others because of it, NEVER crossed my mind. I was just like “well okay” and thought about it on my own.
Just wanted to say thank you for doing this so well, you did a great job with the names, Afrikaans is hard. This was such a big story when it happened, you could no avoid it and his very short sentence had a lot of people very angry. Love your channel, from beautiful Cape Town.

This is absolutely disgusting. 20 years? For annihilating his whole family? And viciously S/A his own sister ??? What a freaking disgrace for a judicial system. At least 20 years for EACH member would have been better. When he gets out , he will still have Plenty of time to still enjoy life with no regrets while living off his family inheritance-blood money. Very creepy to see his family member ls hug him as if he was this innocent little boy? Did they not know about the evidence?

He was sentenced to the maximum that's allowed for a juvenile. In SA, if you're under 18, regardless of your crime, you will not be tried and sentenced as an adult. It's a disgrace, yes however that's how our justice system.... We're one of the few countries in the world that actually releases serial killers as a life sentence is only 25 years, and even if you receive 20 life sentences, they're ALWAYS concurrent.
At least this story didnt happen in Canada or Spain.Their sentences are absolutely pathetic

One correction at 23:29... SA does not have juries. For high court cases we have a judge and 2 adjudicators, so the judge was addressing the court with his summary, not asking the jury anything.

Not just a rapist, but a violent rapist when he was 15. I fear for women and girls in his vicinity after he is released.
If South Africa has an equivilent to a sex offenders register, this guy needs to be on it. No one should be allowed to sexually abuse a child (let alone his own sister) and not be held accountable, kind of like how Josh Duggar abused his sisters and went on to download child pornography (which is abusing a child because those children are revictimised every time someone views that content).

Straight away this doesn't sound to good for the son because he said he heard gun shots when he was in the barn situated next to the family home, without hesitation he runs to his house (baring in mind this whole time doesn't see anyone else at the property) then goes inside finding his Mum, Dad and Sister Shot Dead. Then he runs to his car finding a Rifle and Handgun laying on the driveway he threw them in the back seat of his truck and sped away to the Police Station also hearing more Gun Shots???.Still doesn't see anyone gets to the station where a woman told him to wash the blood off himself or Blowback from his ear like the walls in the house covered in Blood Spatter on the Walls. Imagine here in UK or America where you can report a Murder of an entire family then go outside use a tap wash all the blood off yourself?? Stupid.

FYI. In SA, sentencing guidelines are different for juveniles. Regardless of your crime, anyone under 18, are tried and sentenced AS A JUVENILE.

Those two names are pronounced the same. If you’re pronouncing them differently, then you’re pronouncing one of them wrong.
My late step-father’s name is Don. I know how to properly pronounce his name. And he pronounced his own name the exact same way.
