I know you mean only the best and are only looking for a sense of control for your mother's well being, but people do not lose their autonomy because they are "elderly".
My grandma used to just show up at our house, having walked. It was at least 5 miles each way. She didn't ask permission, and she would take off back home before anyone could even get their shoes on to drive her home. That was her exercise, and she refused help or a ride anyway. She was at least in her 60's at that time. Not until well into her 80's would she give up driving either, she hates needing help or depending on others. Been to Mackinac Island three times but never knew of this interesting story. Haven't heard of the other murder you mention that occurred 50 years before this on the island, of a man who worked in a restaurant, was it? Any chance of you covering that one? You sure don't think of murder when you visit that lovely island. Thank you!
I have always lived in Michigan and have been to Mackinac Island many times. It's one of my most favorite places in the world. Very beautiful! There is so much history there, having formed thousands of years ago. A lot of dark history, especially due to the battles fought there, between Native Americans, soldiers and early settlers. I know of two murders that took place there, including this one. The other involving a college student named "Harvey" who attended Mackinac College in the 1970s, which is now Mission Point Resort. There are so many paranormal stories and experiences people have here as well due to its long and storied history. It is basically a large burial ground. The Grand Hotel, Mission Point Resort, Island House Hotel, Fort Mackinac, Fort Holmes and the cemeteries are just some of the locations that have frequent paranormal activity. It's truly a unique, beautiful and historic place stuck in time, and full of mysteries and secrets. I feel for Frances and her family, for never having closure. I think it was Paul who did it as well. RIP Frances.
I'd say you don't talk to people enough then. My best friend and his sister both worked at a hotel and some places on the island over many summers, and I had heard from them of the paranormal activities that haunt the island in many various ways. In my history of Michigan semester; in college, this story was also covered amongst many other stories in the state. Maybe you should consider learning some more of the amazing local history. Good luck.
you can get it in mackinaw city, st ignace and sault ste marie. you don't need to go to the island. they use to send it to you if you ordered some. i don't know if they do that anymore.
Jiles! Great work, per usual. I thought of a couple themes I'd love to see from you. A consequences episode- too many times the case is reported before one can gain the hindsight of the ripple effect consequences. Updates on those who were ever so smug or remorseless, etc... how are they feeling after 5 years in prison? Just pleases me to hear their regret, perhaps. Idk .
I’m from Detroit but I’ve lived in Kalamazoo for the last 50 years. I never knew there were cabins on Mackinaw. We always stay at either the Grand or the Island House.
how does something like this happen in a place like this... thats crazy. but on the other hand.. a local would know where everything is where everyone goes and a tourist would be an easy target. so on an island where ppl would know who each other are, one would assume everyone has a routine that'd more than likely be predictable and that would be an easy tool for a killer to take advantage of.
Gimme a break, a quiet, grief-stricken widow found dead in a horrifying manner was clearly sexually assaulted. It's not likely she hooked up with a stranger right before she was murdered. Poor lady.
Ha...I was wondering if he had a little spinning blue light on the handlebars and siren activated by the rear tire. Or maybe a piece of cardboard taped to the frame that made a clicking sound in the spokes as the bike was pedaled.

Fun Fact: The Grand Hotel was constructed in Indian Burial ground. When they were building the foundations, they removed 200 sets of human bones. They stopped counting them ar 200. They stopped removing them, as well. It seems the native tribes had been using it as a burial ground for centuries. The entire east side of the island is goddamn creep at night. I dont believe in any of that stuff, but I can tell you that place is not normal.
We live in Michigan and visit Mackinaw island every year, it’s absolutely gorgeous and one of Michigan’s most beautiful places to visit. Sadly the stores on the island have become more basic than they used to be and the ferry to get to the island is more expensive as well but it’s to be expected I guess. It’s honestly like stepping back in time and everyone should visit the island and our upper peninsula. I think we live in one of the most beautiful states in our country, the porcupine mountains are also a must see.

Went on vacation to Mackinac Island as a child in the ‘80s… (the only vacation my dad ever took) some of our extended family even went….it was so fun!!! We were fishing and needed bait…my cousin and I rode our rental bikes to the nice ladies house that owned the (?campground…not sure what to call it) …. she had several concrete bait live wells…she asked what we needed… I told her …we were sitting on the wall of the well splashing our hands in the aerated water… she said ‘excuse me honey, what?’ I said it again. My cousin said it. She said ‘I’m sorry, one more time’…. This happened a few times…. I said it really slow and enunciated….he said it slowly and enunciated… she said ‘does it matter which kind? I think I have some’ weird question since we still had our hands in the well catching them…we knew she had them…. It was weird. She went inside….came out with…..mayonnaise….Miracle Whip… wasn’t exactly sure why/what that had to do with fishing 🤣…. Maybe some weird city tactic we didn’t know about 🤷♀️🤷♀️She handed it to me and said ‘it’s about half full-I hope it’s enough’….. my cousin said ‘oooh yuck…. We want 2 buckets of these’ and splashed the water . She started laughing and got us the bait… she was laughing really hard…we had no clue what was so funny… I enunciated it plainly, I thought🤣🤣 . ‘Men-urrs’…. ‘Men-urrs’….. did I mention we were/are hillbillies? I think the miscommunication was how we pronounced the bait… 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it was a good vacation…♥️♥️♥️

Hey squad! Reporting in from SE Qld where it's a warm & steamy tonight. But regardless of the outside weather, we're all snuggled up & listening to Jiles' melodious voice.
You want cold? Try -17(WTF)°F with wind-chill.
Isn't it summer down there? Hope it warms up for you!
Where the heck are you? I’m in Perth & been 40 degrees all week here. Down to 30 atm tk goodness 🥵.
@@SUPER_WOLFMOONI love the cold & snow but that’s colder than a freezer! Where are you? 😁 🥶
Yeah I'm on magnetic island in the tropics of North Qld it's raining pretty heavy no better way to enjoy this weather than watching another episode of this is monsters
I would never let my mother walk a hour and a half by her self as a elderly woman. Sorry for everyone’s loss.
Since when is 49 elderly?
49 is not elderly today
Isn’t that wild
I know you mean only the best and are only looking for a sense of control for your mother's well being, but people do not lose their autonomy because they are "elderly".
It wasn't elderly back then either@@keepitforreally4501
My grandma used to just show up at our house, having walked. It was at least 5 miles each way. She didn't ask permission, and she would take off back home before anyone could even get their shoes on to drive her home. That was her exercise, and she refused help or a ride anyway. She was at least in her 60's at that time. Not until well into her 80's would she give up driving either, she hates needing help or depending on others. You may have certain ideas of what's allowed, but adults are still autonomous human beings and can do what they like. 🤷🏾♀️
Me: It’s 3 AM I think it’s time for bed
Also me: OMG Jiles just uploaded another video LITERALLY 10 minutes ago. I guess I can stay up for 30 more minutes
Same here...almost, it's 4am, lol.
I can so relate
Somewhere in Time was filmed on Mackinaw Island
Your voice, and that eerie theme music are the best! I could listen to you read a manual on JavaScript and be enthralled.
Rainy day & Monsters 🩷 thank youuuuu -Love from California 😀
Mackinaw Island is true beauty. I hope Frances can be at peace with her husband 🙏🏻❤️
Mackinac Island is the correct spelling. They renamed Mackinaw city before zip codes because of confusion with the post office.
I’ve been here dozens of times I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this!
Me, too.
I can't scream either! And after listening to this episode, I'm now frightened by that fact!
Get a whistle?
I can't either! I thought it was just me!
Why not? Never heard of that condition before. 🤔
Can you raise your voice? Yell?
Or you just talk in a low tone all the time?
Carry some device that makes a loud noise.
Ooh it’s my home state! I love Macinac island, but it’s 4 hours north of me lol
So weird hearing stories from where I live
I love these 3am uploads. It gives me something to start the day with!
there was beer under her bed?! clearly not hers. So the cleaning staff didn't cleaned the floor before her check in? it0s a minor thing but maybe relevant? maybe the previous guest wanted to get in and he followed her idk
Clearly not hers? Why? I feel like anyone that smokes a pack & a half of cigs a day can probably drink a 6 pack without a problem.
I wondered about the beer too. Did the police ask the family if she drank beer?
Not having the ability to scream is terrifying. I wonder if anyone else knew that 😮😢
I've actually never heard of this before. If you can speak and raise your voice, shouldn't you be able to scream, too? Off to do some research...
I've lived here my entire life(by the bridge/island) and have never even heard of this before ..we barely have crime so youd think we wouldve known about this..crazy
You are awesome and remind me of Vincent price. I get chills when u tell a story…
Thanks Jiles .. you tell the best stories..
Been to Mackinac Island three times but never knew of this interesting story. Haven't heard of the other murder you mention that occurred 50 years before this on the island, of a man who worked in a restaurant, was it? Any chance of you covering that one? You sure don't think of murder when you visit that lovely island. Thank you!
Never heard of this one! Thank you. Jiles. Every video is so well done.
Grew up in Michigan and spent many summers exploring Mackinac Island. Such a beautiful place.
Rod Sadler recently wrote a very interesting book that sheds more light on Frances murder. It's called 'Grim Paradise'.
Hi Jiles, crew, and fellow followers - from the sunny Garden Route, South Africa 🇿🇦 🤙

Hey there Monsters! 4pm wine and Monster time
Im suspicious of her son in law
OMG, me too!
I live 30 minutes away and have worked on the island, but never knew this story . AWSOME find.
Good luck.
Who doesn't love a morning monster story...
Not me! 😅
@@CobiewithaK why not lol 😆
Boomers 🤣
@@texastrishamts4248 Because I DO!! 😅🤣

I've been to Mackinac Island twice, and I had no idea that a murder took place there until now. Holy smokes! 😮
Fellow East African monsterers, good afternoon.
You all need to try some Mackinac Island fudge. It's the best stuff ever
you can get it in mackinaw city, st ignace and sault ste marie. you don't need to go to the island. they use to send it to you if you ordered some. i don't know if they do that anymore.
@@bradbradshaw-i4n I'm not sure but there's specialty stores here in Grand Rapids where you can get it. You probably can get it online though
Too sweet for my taste.
I worked a The Fort fudge shop when I was 16.
@PinkyJujubean I'm in Wisconsin and many stores carry it. I Just saw some last week at Nueskes Smoked Meats in Wittenburg.
@@Donna-zc9ii it makes me happy to know that my Wisconsin neighbors also have easy access to this incredibly delicious treat 😊
Idk .
On the newspaper the Detroit Free press it said three children end 11 years of captivity, now I want to know about them.
We stay on Mackinaw Island every Summer and I’ve never heard of this story. 😶
I’ve been to Mackinaw dozens of times. It feels like the safest place in the world.
❤️🙏🏼 Sending love and prayers to her family.
Prayers unfortunately don't work..
@@Killorbekilled-tt7vb I'm sorry you think that. 😔
It's not just me who thinks that way.. Prove tht prayers work.. and I'll gladly believe
Watching from Detroit Michigan ❤
I’ve been lacking, but love the videos !!!
I live in Michigan and go to Mackinaw island each summer. It is a MUST if you have not visited.
I’m from Detroit but I’ve lived in Kalamazoo for the last 50 years. I never knew there were cabins on Mackinaw. We always stay at either the Grand or the Island House.
Lived in MI for 20 plus years never heard this story excellent story telling.
how does something like this happen in a place like this... thats crazy. but on the other hand.. a local would know where everything is where everyone goes and a tourist would be an easy target. so on an island where ppl would know who each other are, one would assume everyone has a routine that'd more than likely be predictable and that would be an easy tool for a killer to take advantage of.
Gimme a break, a quiet, grief-stricken widow found dead in a horrifying manner was clearly sexually assaulted. It's not likely she hooked up with a stranger right before she was murdered. Poor lady.
I don't know why but I for some morbid reason giggled when he said "he mounted his police issues bike" ah the simpler days
Ha...I was wondering if he had a little spinning blue light on the handlebars and siren activated by the rear tire. Or maybe a piece of cardboard taped to the frame that made a clicking sound in the spokes as the bike was pedaled.
@@ohioguy215 maybe thats where the days of someone yelling "weewoo weewoo" started hahaha ok this is a serious case but truly you must see the funny side some times
That awkward moment when you can tell Jiles is wrapping up the intro so you try to time it and say THIS IS MONSTERS at that same time as him but you’re left saying it all by yourself 🫠😐😂
What a horrible shame that the things most needed to solve this case where lost my heart goes out to her family i am so sorry 😢😢😢
Have lived here in Michigan since 1971 have not heard of this story
Beautiful place. I spent my summers there as a kid
What does smoking 1 & a 1/2 packs of smokes a day have to do with mental illness? 🤷♂
Addictive personality?
Maybe was indicative of Nerves? Perhaps it was an increase?
Yes the rate of smoking for schizophrenics is 88%!
3 feet and counting of cold heavy snow in Utah. Guess I am snowed in... with MONSTERS!
I bet the killer died by 2008. Or was in prison for something else
I was born im Michigan٫ and it will forever be my home٫ though I haven't lived there in a while. I never knew of this. Also...not being able to scream...jesus...
You only get better! Thank you!
Michigan appears on this channel way more often than I’m comfortable with. It’s like the universe is giving me a hint to move out of here 😂.
She started laughing and got us the bait… she was laughing really hard…we had no clue what was so funny…
I enunciated it plainly, I thought🤣🤣 . ‘Men-urrs’…. ‘Men-urrs’….. did I mention we were/are hillbillies? I think the miscommunication was how we pronounced the bait… 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it was a good vacation…♥️♥️♥️
Lol!
