    For the first two weeks after my husband died, my son drove an hour to me EVERYDAY just to make sure I didn’t just sit at home. Still makes me warm and fuzzy thinking about that devotion. No one deserves to have someone taken from them so cruelly. RIP

      I did the same for my mom when my dad passed away.
      I spent the first week with her at the house and then came back every day the next week. We spent the time cleaning up his personal items and changing her paperwork.

      I became widowed at age 53.
      Our son and daughter were grown and out on their own already, and our daughter had a family of her own.
      My son had moved into one of our spare bedrooms by the time that my brother had driven me home two hours from the hospital where I had spent the last month of my husband's life with him.
      I told my son many times that him deciding to move in without even asking saved me from a dark depression.
      God bless his kind and caring heart.
      He is a great son and will make someone a wonderful husband one day.
      Just like his Dad was to me. ❤

      @astrialindah2773 that is a valid point. You would think being in a busy place would be safer. But a perp can hide amongst the crowd. And even if you hear screams. I think most will associate it with kids playing.

    The non-sensationalist, straightforward narration is all too rare on UA-cam, and much appreciated. Also, the listing of emergency crisis numbers at the end of the video is a thoughtful touch, and might well help somebody in a critical situation, or at least serve as a reminder that help may be available. Well done.

      Nah, Michilimackinac is the native Anishinaabek name.
      It translates to island of the big turtle. European colonists changed the name to Mackinac, because they found the original native name too difficult to pronounce.
      (And yet here they are, complaining about people who pronounce Mackinac wrong. The irony.)

    • @dasja9966
      @dasja9966 10 місяців тому +2

      @@HanelyuglIt's how french colonist abbreviated the native name of the island, because the native name was too long/difficult for them. The c is silent.
      When British colonist founded Mackinac City in 1850, they decided to name it Mackinaw City, to reflect the english pronunciation.

  • @JessieRed
    @JessieRed 10 місяців тому +38

    For those who were wondering Mackinac or Mackinaw…
    Over time, Michilimackinac got shortened to Mackinac. The island since has been known as Mackinac Island and the fort as Fort Mackinac. However, when present-day Mackinaw City was founded in the 1850s, the British changed the spelling of the city to reflect the way the name is pronounced, with a “w” sound at the end.

      My grandma used to just show up at our house, having walked. It was at least 5 miles each way. She didn't ask permission, and she would take off back home before anyone could even get their shoes on to drive her home. That was her exercise, and she refused help or a ride anyway. She was at least in her 60's at that time. Not until well into her 80's would she give up driving either, she hates needing help or depending on others. You may have certain ideas of what's allowed, but adults are still autonomous human beings and can do what they like. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    I have always lived in Michigan and have been to Mackinac Island many times. It's one of my most favorite places in the world. Very beautiful! There is so much history there, having formed thousands of years ago. A lot of dark history, especially due to the battles fought there, between Native Americans, soldiers and early settlers. I know of two murders that took place there, including this one. The other involving a college student named "Harvey" who attended Mackinac College in the 1970s, which is now Mission Point Resort. There are so many paranormal stories and experiences people have here as well due to its long and storied history. It is basically a large burial ground. The Grand Hotel, Mission Point Resort, Island House Hotel, Fort Mackinac, Fort Holmes and the cemeteries are just some of the locations that have frequent paranormal activity. It's truly a unique, beautiful and historic place stuck in time, and full of mysteries and secrets. I feel for Frances and her family, for never having closure. I think it was Paul who did it as well. RIP Frances.

    how does something like this happen in a place like this... thats crazy. but on the other hand.. a local would know where everything is where everyone goes and a tourist would be an easy target. so on an island where ppl would know who each other are, one would assume everyone has a routine that'd more than likely be predictable and that would be an easy tool for a killer to take advantage of.

They stopped removing them, as well. It seems the native tribes had been using it as a burial ground for centuries. The entire east side of the island is goddamn creep at night. We live in Michigan and visit Mackinaw island every year, it’s absolutely gorgeous and one of Michigan’s most beautiful places to visit. Sadly the stores on the island have become more basic than they used to be and the ferry to get to the island is more expensive as well but it’s to be expected I guess. It’s honestly like stepping back in time and everyone should visit the island and our upper peninsula. I think we live in one of the most beautiful states in our country, the porcupine mountains are also a must see.

    Went on vacation to Mackinac Island as a child in the ‘80s… (the only vacation my dad ever took) some of our extended family even went….it was so fun!!!
    We were fishing and needed bait…my cousin and I rode our rental bikes to the nice ladies house that owned the (?campground…not sure what to call it) …. she had several concrete bait live wells…she asked what we needed… I told her …we were sitting on the wall of the well splashing our hands in the aerated water… she said ‘excuse me honey, what?’ I said it again. My cousin said it. She said ‘I’m sorry, one more time’…. This happened a few times…. I said it really slow and enunciated….he said it slowly and enunciated… she said ‘does it matter which kind? I think I have some’ weird question since we still had our hands in the well catching them…we knew she had them…. It was weird. She went inside….came out with…..mayonnaise….Miracle Whip… wasn’t exactly sure why/what that had to do with fishing 🤣…. Maybe some weird city tactic we didn’t know about 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️She handed it to me and said ‘it’s about half full-I hope it’s enough’….. my cousin said ‘oooh yuck…. We want 2 buckets of these’ and splashed the water . She started laughing and got us the bait… she was laughing really hard…we had no clue what was so funny…
    I enunciated it plainly, I thought🤣🤣 . ‘Men-urrs’…. ‘Men-urrs’….. did I mention we were/are hillbillies? I think the miscommunication was how we pronounced the bait… 🤣🤣🤣🤣 it was a good vacation…♥️♥️♥️
