    I always appreciate the way in which you discuss a perpetrator’s previous traumas and/or mental illness.
    Some crime channels lay it on way too thick as a valid excuse and frame it as “poor murderer couldn’t help themself!” While others flip it in the complete opposite direction by saying those factors mean nothing.
    Your perspective is always so balanced and utilizes nuance to weigh “valid reasons” vs “empty excuse” for each case. So I just wanted to say thank you! Each episode you do is top tier!!

    I find it hard to believe his defence’s assertion that brain scans showed he was on the autism spectrum, since there is no physical test to diagnose this complex neurodevelopmental condition at present. Doctors use behaviour, history, and interviews to diagnose ASD. Research is suggesting that, in future, brain scans may be used to diagnose autism, possibly even before behavioral symptoms become apparent, but that is not possible yet.

    • @iaintnoone
      @iaintnoone 8 місяців тому +6

      I haven’t seen it yet, but did they mean they tested his brain activity rather than just scanning his brain? I think there is new research to show that certain brain activity differs from that of NT individuals. However, I’ve been out of the psychology field for years (I changed careers) and could be wrong. Also, some autistic “markers” overlap with “markers” for people with other traits that are more likely to associated with serial killers.

    I just finished a fantastic new book titled “The Rise of the Black Serial Killer” by Justin Cottrell. I’m pretty aware of what’s going on with serial killers, but this was kind of an eye opener to me despite the fact I’ve worked in the field for over 30 years. The book is really educational. It explores why most people assume black serial killers don’t exist - due among many reasons, to media suppression and common misunderstandings. The book offers also a look into why white serial killers are on the decline while black serial killers are on the rise. Learned a lot of new interesting information.

    As someone that has lived in central Florida most of my life, and currently live in the Daytona Beach area, I can tell you a couple things about the area: 1. Although DB has a famous and storied history, with the exception of US92 where the nascar track and major shopping are located, Daytona is a disgusting cesspool. 2. Drug addiction and drug trafficking are one of the worst in the whole state. 3. The police department is still run by good ol’ boys, and isn’t really a major metropolitan police force. So the fact this happened in DB without resolution for so long is really not that surprising. 4. Refer back to #1 - Except for the major tourist traps and some newer residential communities, the rest of the area is nothing short of disgusting and riddled with drugs, prostitution, and an abundance of crime.

    Every video, on every true crime channel I watch, brings a feeling of dread. Every time I hear the location is Florida, I roll my eyes and think, “It figures!” However, this is in my freaking city!!! I never get over how many serial killers are in my vicinity. Absolutely, unsettling. 🤦🏼‍♀️

      My BF just told me a family member of his dads was "deleted" from the world down here in Pinellas. 20 years. Never solved. He buried her by the Skyway Bridge.

    Am I the only person who thinks that life imprisonment is a worse sentence than any death penalty?

    • @keithdrummond1003
      @keithdrummond1003 6 місяців тому +2

      I'm guessing that depends on the people affected.
      Is the point to rehabilitate? Time allows for showing remorse and begin rehabilitation.
      Is the point punishment? Many people die on death row, resulting in the same sentence as life.
      Are the families and friends affected allowed closure?
      Should the convict be allowed to expedite their own demise?

      It absolutely is. Death row, at least here in TN, gets KFC nights, arts and crafts, homemade cookies from strangers during Christmas, a lot of privileges.

    I live on the street, and because of that I am regularly around prostitutes, and let me tell you, their lives are often a nightmare that few could comprehend.
    Absolutely the most vulnerable of society, they must live by their wits as they get into the vehicles of strangers every night, never knowing if they are going to be paid for their services, ripped off, or worse, beaten and robbed themselves.
    Now some may say "Yeah well, they are choosing their lives!" and perhaps in many respects that may be true, but if anyone is actively choosing that terrible and frightening life, there is probably something very wrong with them. Nevermind serial killers, plenty of average citizens look at them with nothing but contempt at best. At worst? They arent even seen as human beings.
    I myself feel for them, and while I dont solicit them or become too friendly (I keep to myself out here), I at least try to treat them with respect.
