Goodmorning Kent, as a black gentleman from Texas, I do want to see a black cowboy enjoying your food and your funny yet wholesome rants. That will fill my heart with joy. Thats america in its purest. After a hard day of work, people of all colors and creed coming together and enjoying a meal. We need it especially today. Kent my son loves tater tot casserole. My wife made a good one. I made your recipe for him and now he won't eat anything else. You make great food. Thank you.
Thanks for showing us a picture of your Mom. You have mentioned her in so many of your videos. It was nice to see a picture of the lady who taught you so much. God Bless her for raising a great cook!
Maj is a 15 lb dog with a 150 lb attitude. This is one meal my mother would make every week with extra tots. Thanks for all you do and may God bless you and your family.
when i was a kid, my mom (sometimes with me helping) use to make this casserole. Since my mom wasn't too big a fan of using ground beef, she used ground turkey. The cheeses we used were both cheddar and Monterey jack. Every once in a while, we would add green beans and corn into it or as a side. We always set it up similar to how you layer lasagna. It was always meat, sauce, cheese and tator tots in that order. Kent is right. The tator tots must be front and center. Even though we cooked it in the biggest casserole dish we have, there was hardly any leftovers. Every one always went back for seconds. Thank you for bringing back some good childhood memories. Now i gotta go and dig out that casserole dish.
I make this recipe very often for my large family. I put it into flour tortillas into burritos, then I toast up the burrito in my cast iron skillet. Sometimes if I make it for breakfast, I'll add in scrambled eggs. This is such a wonderful frugal recipe. Thank you for posting it up.
I don't know how this one snuck by me but *MAN* am I happy that it came back around! It might be my very favorite one yet! Not only was the tater tot casserole a wonderful, nostalgic and cost effect recipe, I learned some new add ins. I haven't ever done the chilis or liquid smoke. Don't know why I hadn't though of it! Brilliant. But my favorite part was your stories and pictures. Loved that!! And the honor to your Mama!! Ugh my heart! Great video. 100%
Had to ask a buddy of mine (he's from northern Minnesota) what a "Hot Dish" was. He's like "casserole" 😂 Should have heard him explain to me what those campers with hydraulic suspension were... lol (ice castle)
I’ve made chili cheese tater tot casserole and sometimes instead of soup, I use cream cheese. It’s definitely one of those recipes you can adapt endlessly
@@UnkaDon I've actually tried that, and it works great. I'd recommend cooking the tater tots (or potato gems, if you're down my end of the world) for a bit before you add them, so they get really crispy.
@@matthewn4896 If you make this in the regular oven, 350 degrees for an hour, then 10-15 monitored minutes under the broiler of the oven will crisp the tops of the tots nicely! keep an eye on it tho, doesn't take long for the already cooked tots to go from crisp to burnt! It's the best of both worlds, the part of the tot that's down in the mix is soft and "saucy", but the top half is nice a crispy.
Great video Kent. My daughter and I watched it and she's planning on cooking it for us this week. My two kids get a day each to cook for the family, and so far they're doing pretty good. They get to pick the recipe, and she picked this one for the week.
Oh man! Tater Tot Hot Dish in a Dutch oven over coals. Mmmm Mmm MMMM!!! I am going to make this for my 87 year old Mom!!! Mine will be with Chef John mushroom gravy and Kent Rollins seasoning. Woohoo! It's Cowboy Kent 🤠 time!!!
Thanks Jimmie for watching
Looks really good. I have never made it but I volunteer at a soup kitchen and we are making this for the kids summer program. They love this stuff.
It seems like every one makes it with cream of mushroom got to change it up sometimes like cream of chicken or the many other cream soups but still one of my favorite dishes.
So many variables there are
I cook a lot of your food for my boyfriend, he seems to really like it, I tweak the recipes a little bit but. thanks for giving me the outlines!

God bless you Kent and Shannon!
We add a can of French green beans to ours as well. Love it!
We add whatever we have a can of whatever veggies we have available.
Looks great Ken and Shannon. The Vikings up here like green beans in it, never had it without them. It's not that there wasn't any beef around. Your all beef version looks great. Thank you for sharing. John T.
That looks good
