Best onion rings have ever eaten and I'm 75 years old. I loved end so much I used the flour mixture along with the left over milk and sour cream dipping to make a really great gravy. Make the rue using about 3 tablespoons of the flour, add chopped onions optional, some mushrooms and then add the milk and sour cream with honey and thicken it. No waste of any of the fixings.
My husband just made a batch using your onion rings recipe and they were the best. He did a great job and your research made the best onion rings ever! Thank you.

I'd eat at that restaurant! Especially if it also serves his refried bean recipe. It takes a bit of time, but oh my! It's so good! One of the secrets is adding mayo. I never would have thought of that. My Aunt Conchita from Mexico City has one of the best Mexican food restaurants in Ft. Worth and I thought her refritos were the best. This past weekend I modified my standard sourdough bread recipe by adding 3g of 'malted vinegar powder' to the 511g of Giusto flour. Improved the texture and added a subtle nuttiness.
Those look amazing! Just one thing I want to point out is that I know you love your four legged friends as much as I love mine so I wanted to make sure you know that onions are toxic to dogs. So is garlic and grapes. It is always a good idea to look it up before sharing table food with them. We have made the mistake before but luckily we caught it and no harm came of it.
If you aren't willing to cook, and want GOOD onion rings, I would recommend Clear Springs restaurant outside of New Braunfels, Texas. That is, I WOULD recommend them, except that they are as addictive as pure crack cocaine. So good, they are addictive. The only reason I'm not dead now is because they're at least an hour and a half away from me. And now Mr. Rollins is teaching me how to make my own.... well, I'm a goner. I don't eat fast food. I make my own breads at times and cook my own food. I am 71 and a half and the fast food is the pits plus bad for anyone. So I make my own and it's a lot better. I liked this and I might try it soon thank you for sharing.

For breading anything I have had good luck with various coatings by breading a day before cooking and let the breaded items chill in the refrigerator overnight. Just seems to stick so much better. These onion rings are my next project. They look and sound very good.

Oh honey HUSH! I would walk barefoot through broken glass to have some fried green tomatoes like my neighbor used to make! That sweet lady helped me through a horrible time when my baby was kidnapped at 14 months old and missing for a year. Most of my family and friends avoided me. They didn't know what to say, so it was easier to ghost me. Their avoidance only added to my grief. I rarely ate and became dangerously thin. This wonderful older lady moved into the apartment next to mine. She listened to me, prayed with me, and made sure I ate at least once a day by bringing me delicious food I couldn't resist. That was 28 years ago. When my baby was found. He was 2 &1/2 by then, and scared of everyone but me and his grandparents, terrified of strangers. My sweet neighbor won him over immediately with her grandmotherly kindness and homemade banana bread. I'm sure she passed years ago, but if there's a heaven she earned a mansion.
My mom would make homemade beer battered onion rings..she'd get the batter all over her hands and she'd just flick little bits of that off into the oil, or wipe her hands off into the oil to get basically just fried bits of batter. For me that was just fine because for a LONG LONG time I didn't like onion rings with the onions...I would quite literally skin them, I'd break them open and pull out the onion and just eat the batter that was around the onion. It's only in recent years I've gotten a taste for the onion ring in whole..most of the reason I did the skinning of them is because onions and my family...have a bad history when it comes to what they do to our stomachs. As my mom was fond of saying about any dish with onions in it "I'm gonna regret this later but it's gonna taste so good right now"...I've taken that to heart and while I do enjoy onion rings, it's not something I eat if I have plans for the next day that carry me away from home.
First time I ever had a onion ring I was 21 (2017) 😅 😂 I worked at Sonic and just happened to try one and dang I was missing out all these years! (Kinda like how I hadn't had sour cream and onion Pringles until last year but that's another story) Can't wait to give these a try 😁

@@trifthyfuture2342 Like God and George Washington intended. Just plain sugar is used more commonly though, especially with home oven temperatures it's good for browning and crispiness

I don't eat fast food.
I make my own breads at times and cook my own food.
I am 71 and a half and the fast food is the pits plus bad for anyone.
So I make my own and it's a lot better.

For breading anything I have had good luck with various coatings by breading a day before cooking and let the breaded items chill in the refrigerator overnight. Just seems to stick so much better. These onion rings are my next project. They look and sound very good.

Aj and I made them tonight it didn’t go exactly like the recipe I improvised here and there. Honestly probably the best onion rings I’ve ever had and it was the first time I ever made them so I was glad it turned out well. I even told my mom about them and am going to cook for her and some family this next weekend. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

Oh honey HUSH! I would walk barefoot through broken glass to have some fried green tomatoes like my neighbor used to make!
That sweet lady helped me through a horrible time when my baby was kidnapped at 14 months old and missing for a year. Most of my family and friends avoided me. They didn't know what to say, so it was easier to ghost me. Their avoidance only added to my grief. I rarely ate and became dangerously thin.
This wonderful older lady moved into the apartment next to mine. She listened to me, prayed with me, and made sure I ate at least once a day by bringing me delicious food I couldn't resist.
That was 28 years ago. When my baby was found. He was 2 &1/2 by then, and scared of everyone but me and his grandparents, terrified of strangers. My sweet neighbor won him over immediately with her grandmotherly kindness and homemade banana bread.
I'm sure she passed years ago, but if there's a heaven she earned a mansion.

I tried it with pancake mix. If done wrong your mouth will be filled with onion flavored oil soaked batter, and maybe some heartburn after.
Check out BBQ Pit Boys. They do one wrapped in bacon, grilled, then battered and fried.
oh yeah. I'm saving this one. These would be heaven piled on top of a nice burger patty with melted gouda cheese between two fresh kaiser rolls.
My mom would make homemade beer battered onion rings..she'd get the batter all over her hands and she'd just flick little bits of that off into the oil, or wipe her hands off into the oil to get basically just fried bits of batter. For me that was just fine because for a LONG LONG time I didn't like onion rings with the onions...I would quite literally skin them, I'd break them open and pull out the onion and just eat the batter that was around the onion. It's only in recent years I've gotten a taste for the onion ring in whole..most of the reason I did the skinning of them is because onions and my family...have a bad history when it comes to what they do to our stomachs. As my mom was fond of saying about any dish with onions in it "I'm gonna regret this later but it's gonna taste so good right now"...I've taken that to heart and while I do enjoy onion rings, it's not something I eat if I have plans for the next day that carry me away from home.
same i skinned the onion ring and eat the yummy fried bits and leave the sad onion. thought i was the only one lol. now i love onion rings.

I worked at Sonic and just happened to try one and dang I was missing out all these years! (Kinda like how I hadn't had sour cream and onion Pringles until last year but that's another story)

This turned out the best , but I also added a half bag of doritos cool ranch chips crushed to the panko crumbs

The honey makes sense to me because just a bit of background sweetness to compliment the onion. I use buttermilk pancake batter for my onion rings which has sugar in it - They come out great!

We love your videos! The hash knife is definitely on my Christmas List, the seasoning has been great. Having cheap mushy onion rings tonight with my almost there recipe smoked ribs, you could take the ribs to the next level with this simple step. If I have anything to offer it would be a Kentucky hillbilly secret: Cocktail sauce. Put a dollop in your ketchup cup, then put the ketchup in, don't mix.

@@davidcox3076 I'm gonna apologize right now because they'll never be the same without. Put it in the dipping cup, then the ketchup. First few bites are only ketchup then the chili kicks in making each bite a little more interesting.
