    • Breville Oracle Touch ...
    In this video I review descaling intervals and go through all the steps of descaling the Breville Oracle Touch.
    I was not able to get original Breville Descaling powder... it was out of stock or backordered everywhere, so I used this descaling solution instead, which seemed to work just fine (paid link):
    amzn.to/2WcOipV
    Breville Customer Service informed me that I could use any descaling solution designed for espresso machines. This one had quite a few reviews from Breville users.
    If you need a screwdriver, this one should be ok (paid link):

    This video follows a request for this information and the gentleman kindly responded to me that he would find out and produce a video. In the UK the model is made under the name of Sage and their descaling instructions and when to do it are virtually non existent. THIS VIDEO IS FAULTLESS AND ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. SAGE / BREVILLE SHOULD BE SNAPPING HIM UP FOR ALL THEIR PRODUCTS. Perfect English voice; easy to follow instructions which are crystal clear. Thank you very much for this excellent video.Still awaiting a response from Sage, though we have been in total lockdown, in the UK for the last 11 weeks!

    For anyone having issues with the temperature not coming back up to temp, I was told by breville that this happens most often because the descale process is interrupted at some point. If you wait too long in between the steps that the oracle has you do, the oracle will go back to the main screen and you will have this issue. It’s important to pay attention to the machine and I would suggest having a liter of water with the solution ready to go, as that is the most time consuming part.
    The solution is, disconnect the machine open the steam valve wait five minutes make sure all the water is out, close the steam valve.. Then open the other valve, wait a couple minutes to make sure all the water is out, close the valve. Make sure that the machine is cold so wait a good hour before you turn on the machine. Turn on the machine and hopefully you should have your temperature go all the way back up, if this doesn’t work try again, disconnect the machine wait an hour and try again do the same process over.

      Just had this happen. Ugh! Lesson 1: have the descaling solution dissolved and ready to go. Lesson 2: if the machine times-out, close the valves. Allow the machine to cool down completely (like hours). Turn it back on. Make sure fresh water is in the tank, even 1/4 full otherwise the machine will alert you that there's an empty tank. Allow the machine to come up to temperature, and while it's doing so it will refill the boiler tanks. Once it comes up to temperature you can start from the beginning and go through the prompts for descaling.

      Unfortunately, my machine will not heat past 160F after attempting a descale. My dezscal solution was in the water tank when I started. I’m not sure how to fix this bc I can only empty the steam boiler when the machine is not up to temp. Hopefully someone has the answer!

      @jantonvid hi I just came across this video because my oracle touch is having a hard time reaching temperature after descaling and not paying attention my machine turned off.
      I now turned the auto off to 8 hours just to see if the machine would somehow get back to temp and it took a couple of hours when it did I restarted the descaling process again without interruption however it’s still having a hard time coming up to temp quickly. I tried your solution but it’s still not working well in coming up to temp quickly. Do you have any other advise for this?? 😭 We’ve had the machine for 3 years and it worked perfectly until I decided to descale it. And I do not have warranty on it anymore 😢 please help!!

    I completely agree with Geoffrey Walker - this video is excellent and the instructions are crystal clear. (BREVILLE - if you're reading, you might want to make contact with Coffee Wiser). I've been hunting for a decent video on the full descaling procedure as the details in the instruction book are vague at best... Due to the cost of the machine I've been very keen to follow instructions to the letter to avoid a costly repair. The instruction book does not even mention using descale solution, nor how to mix it etc - it just says to follow the instructions on the screen! So thank you Coffee Wiser, this is very valuable for us machine owners. Well done.

    just following along here and i think its important to make a correction if possible to have the 1 liters of water measured and ready before beginning anything and also to have your bottle opened to save time because if you go looking for a measuring jug and it takes too long, the machine will reset itself and start from the beginning

    If you are using the powder descaling package, you will see something like a 28g to 1L water mix ratio (Urnex Dezcal for example). this concentration is mostly for drip coffee makers which pass the solution through quickly. as the Oracle instructions state, you will add this solution to the tank and add another 1.5L of water for 2.5 L total to bring the tank to the max level, or just add one package to the full tank. The descaling process uses more than one liter of water. The oracle lets the solution sit on the components unlike the drip coffee maker. the lower concentration works just fine. there's no need to add 2-3 packages of the powder to tank per the package instructions. doing so may have negative consequences.

    In the on-screen instructions for my Oracle Touch, it says that after the descaling solution has dissolved into the 1L of water, I should fill the tank to MAX before reinserting and starting the process. In the video, the tank is reinserted with only the original 1L of water (plus descaling liquid).

      Thank you for your comment. The manual for my machine says: "Replacing the water filter after three months or 10.6 USgal/ 40 L will reduce the need to descale the machine." Since the manual says "reduce" and doesn't provide any recommended intervals for this reduced need, I decided to call Breville customer service and this is the information I provided in the video: if using tap water, descale every 3 to 6 months, and if using purified water, descale every 6 to 9 months. Given that this is a fairly expensive machine, I plan to descale every 9 months (I change the water filters every three months and I use purified water) to be on the safe side. Have a great day!

      I am sorry you are having this issue. This hasn't happened to me yet. How old is your machine? Is it still under warranty? If so, Breville can fix the machine. Either way, they can also help troubleshoot over the phone. Have you been descaling the machine during ownership? I found two recommendations on forums:
      - A: I just had that happen yesterday while trying to descale the machine. I turned it off for an hour and then went through the descale process. One of the boilers seemed as if it was not fully filling or emptying. That fixed it for me.
      - A: make sure the steam wand is in the vertical position, and not sticking out.

      You are right, I flush the machine two more times after the descaling process. If you go to the 1:53 mark on the video, the screen shown there is the one you want to go back to. So basically, once you complete the entire descale, your machine will automatically refill the boilers as soon as you refill your water tank with fresh water. At this point, return to the descale menu, and skip all the screens until you see the one shown in the video at the 1:53 mark (you can skip to any screen you want within the descale instructions). There are three steps on this screen; step number 2 and 3 are already done (refill the water tank and place it in the machine); remember to do step 1 (place a cloth towel on the drip tray). Then, move to the next screen and follow the steps to empty both boilers, and then refill the water tank again, and repeat the process. I hope this helps!

    I entered the advanced menu and live debug showed that steam boiler was turned off. Ive read that it can be due to descaler solution coating the sensors but every time I open steam valve, nothing comes out. It seems to be there is no water entering or perhaps there is an air lock.

Is that also the case with other owners?

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  Рік тому

      You are right, the machine will not use much descale solution. It's kind of strange that we fill the water tank to the max level, but it looks like there are two reasons for this: (1) if the machine runs out of water during the descale, it would severely damage the machine, and (2) the descale solution needs to be diluted enough to reduce the chances of coating the water sensors and preventing the machine from warming back up.
      I would say that if you are getting through the entire descale, then your machine should be doing fine, even if there is no steam for one of the cycles. It could be that the boiler didn't get sufficiently high in temperature during that cycle. It could be on purpose; perhaps Breville made adjustments to reduce issues with descaling.

    Hi. Many thanks for all of your videos, they’re great! However, your water to descaling solution is incorrect.
    First of all you should ideally use the Breville/Sage branded descaling powder as this is highly concentrated compared to cheaper solutions. You should then dissolve 1 descaling powder sachet to 1 litre of WARM water and add it to the water tank. (This helps dissolve the descaling powder). After putting your water tank back in the machine you should then fill the water tank up to the MAX line from the front of the machine with fresh cold water. It is very important to do this as part of the descaling process involves a backflush through the machine. If there isn’t enough water in the machine it could cause serious damage! All of the steps I’ve mentioned are clearly pointed out on the on-screen instructions menu. You are descaling the machine incorrectly by only using 1 litre of water.

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  3 роки тому +4

      Thank you for your feedback and perspective.
      Unfortunately, the original Breville descaling powder is often out of stock. I know I waited six months for my Breville descaling powder to be delivered... therefore, it is important to have alternate solutions.
      While I encourage everyone to follow the manufacturer information, there is conflicting information from Breville: the original Breville descaler powder indicates that it should be mixed with 1L of water on the instructions, take a look for yourself. Also, other Breville descale videos mix descaler solution with only one liter of water (ua-cam.com/video/JRDWn_4M7MQ/v-deo.html). Lastly, if I recall, even when just using 1 liter of water, the machine did not use all of the water in the tank, not even close actually.
      If you argument is that generic descale solution is less concentrated, then it makes even more sense to use only one liter of water with non-original solution to achieve sufficient concentration.

      @@CoffeeWiser Thanks for the explanation. I stumbled upon the same issue, as my Sage Oracle Touch also asks me to fill up the water tank up to the max line. This does not seem to make any sense, as the descaling process only used a very minor portion of the descaling solution and I was left with approximately 2 liters of unused descaling solution. This does not seem very reasonable, also considering the dilution of the descaling solution.
      I think it would be great to clarify this matter with Sage / Breville to get further guidance from them.

    I have an issue that I don't see addressed anywhere yet: After descaling, I ran several extra rinse cycles as you recommended. However, after the descaling, I can not get my machine to froth milk. Note: It took me three or four attempts at descaling before I could get the machine to go all the way through one full descaling procedure from start to finish, for various reasons. Not sure if that is part of the issue now or not. I know that leftover descaling solution can cause milk to curdle and not froth from previous experience. I washed and rinsed the water tank, ran extra rinse cycles, have run a few rounds of cappuccinos start to finish, with and without grounds, etc. But have not been able to get it to froth milk after 3 tries. What shall I do? Thank you so much for any recommendations you may have.

      Does your steam boiler get up to temperature? You can tell by pressing on a drink while the machine is heating up, it will tell you the current temperature of the boiler.
      Is it possible that the drain screw for the steam boiler is not completely tight?
      Also, does the steam nozzle blow any steam when there is no liquid? If not, it may be clogged.

      Also, what is the easiest way to go through the rinsing cycle extra times? I pushed the back button and did it that way once. Also did the full descale program once without putting in descaler solution. How do you do extra rinses?

      I pressed on a couple of the drinks, and I don't see the temperature come up. Tried pressing the various icons, and they take me to schedule and settings page, but no temperature reading. I'm not getting how to see the temp ... ? The only place I can see the current temp is when frothing. I just hit froth milk, and the wand (not in the jug/milk) started blowing steam and showing a temp that got up to about 147degrees.

      @@napatwist9381 The only time you can see the temperature with the Oracle Touch is when you first turn-on the machine, and the machine says that it is warming up. Press the screen and then press a drink, you will see the temperature rising as the machine warms up.
      If you are seeing steam then your steam boiler is working. Is your issue that your steam wand is not frothing properly? If that is the case, you may need to do wand cleaning. I have a video for that. Another alternative is to put your steam want in hot water for a couple of hours. I actually soak the steam wand every day after I use the machine. I get hot water from the machine water spout and place the wand into the cup. I don't froth it all, I just let it soak for a few hours.

    May I ask should I just use 1L of water with the descale solution as per the video or should I add the tank to full as per the coffee machine instruction?

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  Рік тому

      It seems to be better to add more water so that the solution is more diluted.
      Most of the solution will be wasted, but apparently this is better to reduce the possibility of a sensor error.

    One thing confused me is after putting the one litre of descale water I notice you put that straight back in the machine but my menu tells me to put in the one litre then fill to the max. Which method should I do? Is leaving the stronger one litre mix better? Is there topping up to max making it too weak and therefore best missed?

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  2 роки тому

      If I recall, I was following the instructions from the manual, instead of the screen. It made more sense to me to keep the solution more concentrated since the machine doesn’t use the entire amount any way. By filling it to the max, the solution is very diluted, and also most of the mix is actually wasted.
      However, many Oracle Touch users have reported that their machine stoped working after descaling because some descaling solution coat sensors, causing errors on the machine. It is possible that the more diluted solution reduces instances of error on the machine.
      My recommendation is to use the ClaroSwiss filters to reduce scale and protect the machine that way, instead of descaling, especially once your machine is out of warranty.

      Congrats on your new machine!
      Yes, that is the easiest way. However, if you are using fresh coffee and want to avoid waste, you can collect many of the beans sitting on top of the burrs. A few weeks ago, I bought tweezers with rubber tips (so the metal doesn’t scratch the burrs), and I love them! It makes getting most of the beans out of the burrs easily and quickly. Then grind the the few beans that are left. I hope this helps. Have a great day!

Those tablets take some time to devolve. I started this process, got to the part where I needed to use the solution and it took so long to dosolve that the machine made me start over. Frustrating

      Have you tried to empty the boilers? You may have to do this a few times. You can empty the boilers by going through the last few steps of the descale process. You can go through the descale menu and skip to the steps for emptying the boilers. If the machine can refill with clean water a few times, it should reduce the bad water taste.

    Thanks for the video. One thing which does not match the on screen instructions is that you fill the tank with 1 litre of descaler solution only, whereas on screen it says to fill the tank to the max, which means the descaler is diluted quite a lot. Can you clarify please?

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  3 роки тому

      The original Breville descaler solution indicates that it should be mixed with 1L of water on the instructions. Also, other Breville descale videos mix descaler solution with only one liter of water. I believe that using a full tank would dilute the solution too much. Lastly, if I recall, even when just using 1 liter of water, the machine did not use all of the water in the tank. I hope this helps!

      I contacted Sage Appliances Support about this and their recommendation is to fill the tank in accordance with the on-screen instructions if using their own Sage / Breville descaling agent, since this is stronger than normal descaler, so can take the extra dilution and requires the tank to be full. The initial mixing with with 1 litre of warm water is, I think, just to dissolve the powder - then you top up the tank.

    How do you know you need to descale? I’ve had my machine 3 weeks, and we use it quite a bit. We switched our beans and 3 days later, I’m having issues with extraction. At first the grinder wasn’t working properly. It took too long, and the. Wouldn’t fill up. I emptied it and cleared it up. Now, the only way it’ll extract espresso is if the grinder is on 40. I’m new to this, and I’m kind of nervous the machine is faulty or something. Does it need to be descaled?

    • @CoffeeWiser
      @CoffeeWiser  2 роки тому

      Many people are having an issue with descaling. Apparently, if the process is interrupted, the machine can't get back up to temperature. I have also read that if some descale solution remains on the sensors, this will also break the machine. I would say that you should make sure you change your water filters every three months, and use the Claro Swiss filters because they help to reduce the hardness of the water.
      Can you elaborate on your grinder issue? I may be able to make some suggestions.

    HELP - did the descale on my oracle touch EXACTLY as per your video. Everything seemed fine, but as soon as I turned the machine back on, it will not heat above 154 degrees and the steam boiler seems not to fill. This is a COMMON PROBLEM I am seeing with this machine and the ORACLE TOUCH has no way to do anything until it gets up to full temp, which it will never get to. APPARENTLY what is happening, is the sensor in the BOILER TANK has the cleaning residue on it and thinks the tank is full, which it is not, and there is NO WAY to tell the machine to fill that tank to rinse off the sensor...SO..looking at comments on reddit and other places, its a huge problem with this machine. I AM HOPING you know something about this. My machine was working perfectly until the descale but I was trying to follow the BREVILLE preventative maintenance schedule and I ran the descale today..now..nothing. HELP??>?

      Were you able to resolve your issue? If I recall, some viewers have previously placed recommendations in the comments on this topic. Have you tried to re run the descale process but this time with no cleaning liquid? If the issue is residue, then perhaps draining the boilers and letting them refill could rinse the sensors sufficiently to get the machine back to work.
