that was a pretty serious orange peel... it looked just like the black racebike I painted once!
well done with the polishing, it is labour that requires patience

A massive thank you goes to you for your honesty and showing what happens when you use too much water when wet sanding or not being careful enough you helped me stop destroying my first guitar build and probably a lot more like me with there first build
Cheers 🥂 for that bud 👍🥇

I cannot thank you enough. Thanks to your genrously assistive guidance in no small part, I was able to do a very nice job on my Strat.I was somewhat horrified when the dull happened, but shure enough, with a nice buff of compound, it came back almost like magic! Finished with a wax buff and it is so so good, although the primer/ undercaot was already laid down professionally. Cheers mate from Texas USA!

I wish I would have seen this video prior to attempting this because I ruined one of two guitars by submerging it in water while sanding it 😭 it's split in at least five places on the body. So yeah, that is a real thing ☹️🥺😭

End May 2022. I like your video because I do everything by hand as well. The ONLY electric sanding that is safe to do is at preliminary stage when removing original finish. It's good for the crude/rough work just prior to primer coat. And the WORST thing to do is use a sanding block at ANY time after the primer has been sprayed on. Those wood bodies have contours that we can't detect by eye. But a sanding block sure as H will locate them. Finger sanding follows those mild contours. I have guitars that I clearcoated and SKIPPED the orange peel removal steps. I just car polished them with orange peel LEFT ON and they look terrific. The orange peel is UNIFORM. It is NOT unsightly. It truly is NOT necessary to sand out the orange peel.

So after you applied the clear coat you just polished it? Did the orange peel go away or is it there but just looks good?

Thanks for your in depth video series! It's super informative and gives me horrible ideas for what to do with some of my instruments.
I was wondering if there is a different technique for finishing guitars with two (colour) layers of nitro? Say, have the black wear through to something like Fiesta Red or Shell Pink. Would the layers just melt together? It's not absolutely necessary but I'm still curious, haha.
    Thanks again!

Great Video!!! Was the orange peel already in the color coat or did it only appear after applying the clear coat?
My guitar looks basically the same as yours before the treatment but the orange peel / structure was already in the color coat… I already applied 2 coats of clear coz I had a hard time deciding if I should sand the color coat or not. So I just continued and your video gives me hope that it will look good when I do sand and polish only on the clear

If you mean the standard t cut. It should be ok. You can get a version like mine in red from Halfords that I've used before and makes life easier. But if you already have the normal t cut maybe try some under the pickguard first to make sure it's OK?

It should be pretty even. By cloudy do you mean like milky? If so that could be moisture trapped in finish. If it was nitro I would spray a little more which should clear it.
