I remember if I was getting bored with my other games as a kid I could always count on the WFC and online section of Mario kart. I remember the day they disconnected the WFC. I went online, tried to anyway, and the message came up. I exited the online section and tried again, but then I told my dad, “there’s something on the wii, what is it?” Or something like that. He read the message on the screen and told me I wasn’t able to play it, I can’t remember too much. It didn’t really mean much to me because I was young and didn’t understand how the internet really worked. I left it for around a week or so, the same message came up on my TV. I think I knew then I wasn’t going to be able to play online. Looking back at the WFC makes me think of the hours you could spend on Mario kart, on and offline. To hear about the shop channel and the mii channel being removed makes me wonder why they’re doing it. Rest in peace WFC, and soon to be Mii channel and shop channel in 2019. You will always be remembered in our minds.

I was looking online at was at GameStop earlier and I couldn't find a Switch less than $430. I would be surprised if Nintendo started pricing online for the Switch.

I remember sometimes getting up early to play WiFi races on MKWii while eating breakfast until i left for the bus and surprisingly enough people were playing it at 7am. Good times. Just as I graduated elementary school the Wii online races were discontinued and my heart sank, but got MK8 as a graduation present. I used to think they discontinued it just because of Mario Kart 8, but not exactly. I am an incoming senior in high school now and the online races on Mario Kart Wii still hold a place in my heart. I’m trying to spread the word, there is something called CTGP. What it is, is it is a modded version of Mario kart wii that adds 200+ custom tracks along with the original tracks and it has custom servers that allow you to play online. There are also lots of other mods, like 200cc, item rain, where it rains items that u can pick up or get hit by, and lots of other things. It really is amazing and I play it every day. There are even still some twitch streamers and youtubers that are actually rather popular, like 100k+ subs on youtube. I definitely recommend checking it out and watching a tutorial on how to get it.
I only played online on my DS and 3DS, not on the Wii because we thought we couldn't play online with an hacked wii... I caught up to that though thanks to wiimmfi, dolphin emulator, and my real wii's nand. Oh and a Dolphinbar of course...

Nah I grew up playing on Nintendo network. I hopped on a couple 3ds games like mk7 last night and they were all full of people getting their last rounds. Lasted one hour racing until my game crashed forcing me to restart. So in reality Nintendo wifi connection and Nintendo network were the same thing it just depends what you grew up with

Not only that, the wii was going to be 10 years old in 2016 and gamespy (the online service that powers WiFi connections on the wii) was shutting down around when this video took place so they had to close it as well

Yeah there are all you have to do is connect your Wii to the Internet using a hotspot or your Internet and change your DNS settings using yt tutorials

Nah I grew up playing on Nintendo network. I hopped on a couple 3ds games like mk7 last night and they were all full of people getting their last rounds. Lasted one hour racing until my game crashed forcing me to restart. So in reality Nintendo wifi connection and Nintendo network were the same thing it just depends what you grew up with

It’s probably for the best though because people would either stop playing it or the servers would be filled with hackers. Not only that, the wii was going to be 10 years old in 2016 and gamespy (the online service that powers WiFi connections on the wii) was shutting down around when this video took place so they had to close it as well
Guys there is a way to play online on this game still. Reply if you really care, not gonna type it out if no one actually wants to join the new hosted servers

Good thing Mr. Bean made a wiimmfi patcher so you can still play online! Just look it up and download it and you will be able to play online again!

The thing is even if you home brew your Wii and use Riiconnect24 or priiloader it’s still doesn’t feel the same as it used to I use priiloader to play games online and it don’t feel the same as it used to like this

You can tell it's the Nintendo WFC days because it's not a bunch of people using Funky Kong Flame Runner (Bowser Bike) and there is actual character and vehicle diversity lol. Not to mention this person easily took top spots most times using Koopa Troopa Standard Kart S of all things
I think that funky Kong bike meta didn't get popular until 2018/2019
I really miss when we could choose between more than 3 tracks online, unlike MK8D.
The standard Kart S sounds Like Standard Kart M on 150cc
the days when anyone can be whatever character they think is cool, without having to deal with having a room full of funky kongs.
funky kong is good, its just that, after WFC was gone, everyone just now uses funky kong online.
