EASIEST METHOD OF GETTING WIIMMFI! How to play Wii games online after WFC shutdown!

- IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please use 95.217.77.181 as the primary DNS, rather than the one displayed in the video! It was changed when the server moved to new hardware in November 2019. I will be uploading a revised tutorial soon as there are even easier ways of accessing Wiimmfi than this now (for more details, go to wiimmfi.de/patcher/dnspatch and check out the instructions there) although this tutorial is still working assuming you enter the DNS listed above!
Requirements for this tutorial: Original Wii console (not Wii U or Wii Mini), a WFC compatible game disc, and an Internet connection. This is a completely future proof, very reliable method of getting online once again on Wii games, even if you are not a technically advanced user or do not have access to an SD card, or the Homebrew Channel. Watch the video to find out more!
So, with back to back DS and Wii tricks, we now have online multiplayer across DS and Wii games that involves simply entering a DNS server! Yet despite this, the differences in how the two tricks actually work internally are massive. While DS has a bug in the https library that means that anyone can pretend to be Nintendo, the Wii instead has a bug in its End User License Agreement (EULA) screen. They made the mistake of allowing the EULA to be transferred over http, not https, which means that anyone with a custom DNS can present a custom EULA. From there, Fullmetal5 was able to construct a EULA page that abused a bug in the miniature Internet browser designed to display the EULA, in order to gain arbitrary code execution and thus allow us to get homebrew, or Wiimmfi patchers or anything we want really, just by entering a DNS and attempting to view the EULA. He has dubbed this new exploit "str2hax". None of this would've been possible if Nintendo had chosen to use https for that page. This method works on all regions.

Common troubleshooting issues/error codes:
If the EULA does not appear like the one in this video, it may mean you're looking at the real EULA screen. In that case, make sure you entered the DNS properly and the connection is set to be used! Alternatively, if that doesn't work, try removing the secondary DNS (the 8.8.8.8 one) from the connection and try again. If that still doesn't work, it may mean your Internet setup doesn't allow the use of custom DNS entries, which may mean this doesn't work for you, or that you need to adjust some settings on your router to allow it. Leseratte has also made a tool for computers (PC/Mac/Linux) that may also help; you can see that (along with details on the newest method of accessing Wiimmfi) here: wiimmfi.de/patcher/dnspatch (Go to the part that says "Help! My router is blocking custom DNS!")
Error Codes 20110 or 23400 would indicate that you forgot to go the EULA screen, which is required every time you want to play online.
If after clicking "Advanced settings" with the intent of entering the DNS, you instead see fields for "IP address", "Subnet Mask" and "Default Gateway", you were actually on the wrong page in the connection settings. Go back out, and scroll one more page to the right.
If you get Error Code 60000 when connecting to Wiimmfi, erase your friend code however you can (start a new save or similar) and then try again.
If nothing happens after viewing the EULA screen for more than 3 minutes, but your console has NOT frozen, then please let me know!

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Please use 95.217.77.181 as the primary DNS instead of the one in the video! The one shown in the video no longer works! Also, you can test out a brand new patcherless method of accessing Wiimmfi with this DNS on Mario Kart Wii and certain other older games; instead of doing the "User Agreements" step shown in this video, just launch your game normally and try to connect to Nintendo WFC. It may just work and you can skip the whole waiting 1 - 2 minutes! (If it shows error 20110, do use the User Agreements method instead. I'll be making an updated video tutorial at some point hopefully soon on this matter!)
Also, remember, after following the initial steps of the setup, you need to do the steps starting at 3:59 EVERY time you want to play online. The Wiimmfi patch only lasts until you exit out of the game, or turn the console off. Good luck, everyone!

Dug my Wii out today after 7 years, followed these instructions with the 95. primary DNS, no homebrew (whatever that is), no SD card, old Mario Kart disc and ...................it works!! Not always first time mind, but it works. So now I've got to learn how to play/drive again.....I'm 60 years old, not particularly computer literate and I thought I'd never play Mario Kart on line again. It's not about winning, it's just about taking part and escaping to some weird place in my mind. Nah, although the cheater count is way down on what it once was. A lot of things that look like cheats (e.g. teleporting onto the track after falling off, taking no damage from stars, etc) are just lag and didn't actually happen on the opponent's screen, hence they don't slow down.

The ds one does not require an a client router, it only requires you to change the security settings.

It says "unable to connect to internet" for me when I get to the User Agreements step.
Use 8.8.8.8 as the secondary. See if that works. It helped mine.

Yeah, you just need to patch the ISO with the Wiimmfi Image patcher. Or update WiiFlow (Lite) to the newest version, then there is a "custom server" setting in the game settings that you can just set to "Wiimmfi".

The fact there is still a way to play Wii games online is freakin' bananas, but the fact you can play pretty much most games released for it... the game has changed.

Heheh, I really don't understand why people would assume the Wii is the thing that needs to do the countdown, but actually this is a fairly common question. But no, not only would that not be secure, it's completely stupid as a concept :P So, no, your Wii does not need to be left on. The server is keeping track instead.
No worries! Enjoy it when the countdown is done! Also, just so you know, you should aim to go online at least once fairly soon after the countdown completes, as the server deactivates "unclaimed" consoles after a while (couple of weeks, I think?). But as long as you connect up once when it's done and get to the online menus, then the Wii is registered forever! This all is sadly for the reduction of cheaters online. It's an ugly solution, but it sure is effective.

Pretty rubbish player considering I just turned my Wii on after years only this week haha, far from a cheater! If not, no worries, hopefully the week goes quick! Well, the main issue with that is if we start handing out bypasses to the wait, everyone's gonna want one and it'd come across as unfair if we only granted it to some people, but not others.

I have a question, I just started this and I’m in the 7 day wait. Would the timer somehow reset if I unplug the console, remove the disk, or disconnect from wi-fi? I wanted to move my console but I don’t want to have to reset the timer. Also, when the 7 day wait is done, could doing anything I mentioned above start it again cause some people had that issue My question in short, does the 7 day activation wait every reset? It does not reset for that, no. It only resets if the timer completes and then you don't log on within a couple of weeks or so.

I'm several months late, but you don't need to wait with the Wii literally powered on for 7 days. The server keeps track of when you first sign on, and then releases permission to you once those 7 days are up.

I did it with homebrew. Just watch a tutorial how to download homebrew (you need an sd card an laptop/pc). And after you just download wiimmfi. Its really simple and way more comfortable because you dont have to reconnect everytime you restart your wii
