  • My diabetic patients would ask " Why is my glucose meter not accurate? Is it my cheap glucose meter? The answer is yes and no. There are cheap glucose meters that are fairly accurate. There are very expensive meters and strips that are not super accurate either. Both type 1 diabetics and patients with type 2 diabetes need to check their blood sugars frequently. Getting different glucose readings when you check blood sugar can be frustrating but also it is inevitable. It is an inherent variability( unavoidable error) in every meter. Some meters are better than others. Dr. Ahmet Ergin discusses this in detail in this video. Sometimes expired or spoiled strips and inaccurate techniques also may give erroneous readings. At SugarMDs our coaches will teach you the most accurate way of checking blood sugars. We also have Bluetooth and cellular meters that transfer data to us instantly. Therefore, you get the support you need to manage your diabetes at any time.

doctor i think you are amazing. I've been a diabetic for about 10 years and since i started watching your videos i realize that not all doctors take the time to educate their patients about the thing's you do. I wish you were in N.Y. you give me hope.

I noticed something odd about my Care Touch blood glucose monitoring system when I gave myself three (3) consecutive tests in a row and they all gave different readings. The readings were: 2:51 pm = 89, 2:53 pm = 100, 2:57 pm = 114. After researching the topic I found that blood testing devices available to the public only have to be 80% accurate. That means your numbers could be off 20 points in either direction. Can anyone say, "That's Huge.?"

I live in Sweden, The Contour Next meter is free when you get a diabates diagnos here. My doctor gave me one and a prescripton on the strips, they are also free.

When getting tested at a place like the hospital, where they use 1 device to test everyone, isn't that contamination of the device with someone else's blood? I am curious as I have been tested and its WILD every time but when tested with my device, its consistent and in normal levels.

Walmart brand Relion reading was very close to my lab results. Probably just a few points off. Plus i check my A1c every three months at my doctor.

I want to know if my blood glucose is in normal range 7-99mg/dl so I can make changes to my exercise/diet. If I get a reading of e.g. 94 on my Accuchek and i want to know if my glucose is in range. What do I need to account for the inaccuracy of the meter?

Thank you! this is the video I’ve been waiting for. If you could please discuss the difference between blood glucose and the interstitial fluid readers would be great. I understand they are two different things but sometimes the point differences are very far apart and I would like to know which to believe. If I could believe my freestyle, I would have perfect blood sugar. But my blood glucose is always higher. Thanks for everything that you do to educate us.

Mine is a Care Touch, and it has a variability of about 10 points from one hand to the other. The left hand is usually the highest. I came across this by playing with the thing. I am prediabetic, and my bg is actually normal in the low 90s even 80s lately, My first lab put my A1Cin the prediabetic, but it is normal now. I check myself frequently to check if my dietary plan is adequate to avoid DM. It seems it is working.
