This difference is expected - on a meter ,it is capillary blood and in lab ,it is venous sample Please refer to Joslins Diabetes Manual - there is intrinsic difference between Capillary and Venous blood samples of approximately 15% ; which is more evident in a pp sample . Nothing to worry - you are measuring glucose at 2 different points , so don’t expect SAME reading .As per American Diab association, glucometers are to be used for routine SMBG - self monitoring of blood glucose and NOT for diagnosing whether patient is distinct or not . Patient has to check his glucometer strip expiry- Many strips have expiry of 3 months AFTER opening the strip vial. Also should not use alcohol, spirit to clean finger , and then remove strips with same hand - it spoils the strips giving abnormal readings. Best to wash hand with soap and warm water , take sample after drying the finger . All my above experience after giving Training to Diabetic patients on “Selfcare in Diabetes and SMBG” for more than 25 years .
The accuracy of glucometer test results depend on various factors such as company brand, cleanliness of fingure, sample size, strip quality, etc. Also, you can not conclude by doing only one time.
Video on UA-cam a Lab guy was comparing same sample in Dr Morpen Glucometer and Blood Glucose Analyzer. It was almost same 108 vs. 109 because it tested from same sample. Our capillary blood glucose (testing for Glucometer) may vary from original upto 15%. It is not the fault of Glucometer, it is the limitation of collected blood sample. Doctor should know this.
We can always add 10% to glucometer reading. We normally do lab test only if we are doing HbA1c . Glucometer is kept handy to check sugar levels in cases of hypoglycemia. Lab charges only for.FBS and PP are exorbitant . They collect additional charges for home visit. Hence many choose glucometers. I am yet to know the object of this video.
Some experts say that finger blood is capillary blood..which always gives higher results than veins blood. Veins blood is tested in lab by titration method n its less than home test. I have always found this true in mu case. Lab test results are always found 10-15% lower than home glicometer tests.

Yes, it is true that when using a glucometer, the blood sample is usually drawn from capillaries in the fingertip, while in a laboratory test, blood is typically drawn from a vein (venous blood). The type of blood sample (capillary vs. venous) can slightly influence the glucose levels measured. Differences Between Capillary and Venous Blood in Glucose Testing: Capillary Blood (Glucometer): This blood comes from small blood vessels close to the skin. It generally represents a mixture of arterial and venous blood, but more closely resembles arterial blood in terms of oxygenation and glucose levels. Glucose levels in capillary blood tend to be slightly higher than venous blood, especially after eating, because it reflects the most recent glucose uptake from the bloodstream. Venous Blood (Laboratory Test): This blood is taken from veins, which carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. Venous glucose levels are typically lower than capillary levels, particularly after meals, since glucose is being used by tissues as it circulates through the body. Can This Influence Test Results? Yes, the difference in the type of blood can influence glucose measurements: Fasting glucose levels tend to be more comparable between capillary and venous blood. Post-meal glucose levels measured from capillary blood may be slightly higher due to the way glucose is absorbed and transported after eating. However, modern glucometers are calibrated to account for these differences, and they usually give an accurate approximation of venous blood glucose levels. The difference is typically small, but it is important to be consistent with the type of testing used (home glucometer vs. lab test) for accurate monitoring. If there's any significant discrepancy between your glucometer readings and lab results, it is a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional.

Sir glucometer has shown same reading on both samples taken from vein & finger for both fasting sugar & pp sugar so it is showing correct. Perhaps it is due to different lab testing process which is giving different results. Can we put 100% reliance on lab results??
